And lo and behold, Triple D indeed made a stop into Jax, which is about a five minute walk from our rental. So it was on a recent Tuesday morning that I popped in and ordered the Banana Bread French Toast ("House banana bread, served with cinnamon apple compote, local maple syrup, fresh whipped cream") for takeout. The food was ready about 10 minutes later and I was back at the rental and eating five minutes after that. It's really, really good. The French toast by itself is impressively not too sweet, but the when you eat it with the syrup and the apple compote and the cream, it turns into a perfectly balanced, super delicious concoction. I also got their ice coffee and we both agreed that it was far better than most ice coffees we've ever had. What an awesome little place.

This location has as much character as the old one, but of course in a different way. The first thing I noticed walking in was the colourful floor tile. It made me happy. They still have a simple menu with good choices: soups, sandwiches, bowls and baked goods. Service was pleasant and speedy. It was a beautiful spring day so we took advantage of the large patio to enjoy some sunshine. Food was as good as I remember. I had the salmon bowl while hubs had a chicken squishwhich, basically a grilled sandwich. Happy to have re-found Good Eats.

I usually get a latte there but decided on a regular one, that was a mistake. Their food did taste good, and their chutney was still delicious but the service was a bit gruff. They weren't rude by any means but I was ignored for 10 mins just waiting to ask for a takeout box. I could tell he was a bit overwhelmed and probably having an off morning, so I didn't take it personally. But when I'm paying $30 for one breakfast bowl and a coffee, I'd expect more than 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half and a few mushrooms in it. The food is delicious but you're definitely overpaying and 50/50 on the coffee lol

They're situated on the main road with spectacular views of the river which is as wide as a lake... the hills and gorgeous, huge trees reflect on the water. You can eat on the terrace where there are umbrellas, or in the very eclectic and unique dining room that has beautifully mismatched furniture (everything from old church pews, free standing tables and chairs to curved booths), rustic tree trunks as pillars, and sundry owl figurines and artwork. I wanted to walk around the place just to admire all the artwork and decor. The ladies who attended us were very friendly, gracious, helpful, and made us feel welcomed and valued. They answered our questions and made suggestions when asked. When I asked if the iced tea was freshly brewed or made from a powder she brought me a taste to ensure I would enjoy what I ordered. So she was willing to go the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience. I ordered the Le Hibou Sirloin burger which was delectable, generous, and accompanied by a heaping portion of the best fries. My friend ordered the same, but his wife ordered the Tom Yum soup, and said it was awesome. This place really has it all: unique character, delicious food, excellent service, and an amazing view. If I lived closer than the actual 2,125 miles away, I'd be a regular customer. Way to go, Le Hibou!!

I rarely see Steak Tartare on a menu so I ordered that and enjoyed it, especially whatever sauce they put on the side. Speaking of sauces, the fries came with a side sauce that was also tasty. All in all, a good meal, experience and without booze we had two nice lunches for around $40 pre-tip. Nice!

I stopped by The Red Apron to check it out. It's a cute shop that sells primarily frozen meals that you just need to stick in the oven. They also have frozen pies, cakes and other desserts. Prices are similar to those of fully prepared and plated meals at restaurants. They have artisan products like jams, salad dressing, nuts and crackers. They also have fresh baked goods, coffee and soup. I saw a few prepackaged sandwiches in the fridge. I did not see any hot ready-to-eat meals though. I grabbed a few ham and cheese scones ($4.25 each). They were delicious! They were full of cheese, cubes of ham, and chopped chives. And there was extra cheese on top too! Very tasty. Worth all the calories, lol. Service was courteous. There's bar seating inside along a window, and they have lots of outside patio seating, which would be great to grab a coffee and baked treat and catch up with friends. The ambiance is cafe/coffee shop-like. They have their own private parking lot for customers, which is free, so you don't have to worry about paid street parking. (94)

I even had to take a picture of the walls where the downstairs washrooms are located. They had gorgeous sunflowers painted all over them. The service is every bit as good as the food. The mimosas are worth it, lots of bubbles (some places really skimp, not Chesterfield's). They have many gluten-free options, which always makes me feel like I can eat like everyone else. I ordered the Bird's Nest Benny. The eggs were the most perfectly poached I've ever had at a restaurant. A side came with the benny, and I got the baked beans. The food was absolutely delicious. Potatoes, eggs, bacon, and maple-lime hollandaise that was to die for. There was so much food. Impossible to walk away hungry. Service was perfect as well. His name wasn't on the receipt, but he treated me like I was just as important as the group diners. No solo diner curse here. Cute spot, very clean, perfect service and food with quality ingredients. (Not sure if you want to follow this bit of travel hack advice.) Who wouldn't want to do brunch every day, right? It's an Instagram foodie influencer's bloody dream! The street HQ is on is full of wide street patios. (Judging only by what I saw in the Byward Market, honestly Ottawa has a better street cafe culture than Toronto--sorry Toronto.) So naturally I took up an entire table outside and had me some coffee to start. Cute trendy clean ambience with friendly staff, who apologetically warned me even of wandering wasps which may be bothersome. Must be an Ottawa thing--nobody in Toronto ever warn you of annoying wasps and bees! My main was a Brunch Poutine.
