I had two separate projects completed at my home in 2024 and 2025. Drapery in my rear family room was flawless from measurements, to fabric, installation and over all look. I was very happy and guests always commented how well it fit the space. It was now time to complete the front family room. Error started with the installation of the rod, then the fabric wasn't placed in the correct spot or how I described the look should finish and seemed unusually messy. After the installation, I retrieved a ladder and inspected, trying to figure out how I could fix this due to my unhappy situation. I then realized, the return rod was installed too close to the window recessed wall to the fabric couldn't slide to the sides, I then noticed even if it slides flushed to the wall there wouldn't enough fabric to close in the middle, I then noticed the finish of the detail trim wasn't the same as the rear family room from top to bottom and looked messy if standing outside the front of house looking in and my last major disappointment was the fabric itself was very thin, felt cheap. I contacted the design consultant who responded (who I won't name), her response was she'll let the group know I'm not happy. I thought this was a bit inappropriate since I didn't deal with a group, you were the person who came to my home to sell me this product and you should be contacting me when available to have a better understanding. Fast forward, she came to my home a week later and took feedback. I was told someone will come pickup the new drapery and changes will be made. The person who came to my home was an older male, who was very upset from the moment he walked in the door, did not want to be here. I said these are the ones that need to be removed. Terrible attitude and I almost got into a huge argument with him which would have probably let to a fist fight because he was so nasty. I told him "sir I don't want you to be here, there is the drapery, take it or leave it". Three weeks later, someone came to reinstall and wanted to drill new holes I said no because now, I would be able to see the holes they already made and they wouldn't patch it. The drapery is up, on both sides, there is a light silhouette, fabric still feels cheap and thin. From this moment my impression and over all experience with drapery connection has been a fail. From the design consultant , who leads with so many years of experience, should go work on her experience a few more years and the people they send to your home are rude and unprofessional. Never again will I spend eleven thousand dollars to be insulted. My advice is, in the year 2026, we must fight back and standup for ourselves with companies like this. They do not deserve our business. read more

During the sales process, I was told the company provides a service to come out and replace the batteries for the motorized shades when needed. What was not disclosed is that the service call now costs over $300 -- and that doesn't include the cost of the batteries. That feels very misleading. If there are significant ongoing service fees, they should be clearly explained upfront so customers can make an informed decision. Unfortunately, the lack of transparency has left me disappointed. read more

Updating my review on May 13, 2025. Happy that the management sent out a more experienced service technician today. Mike arrived early, he looked at the condition of the drapes and discussed strategy. He clearly had experience with high level of service and quality standards. He understood how to resolve the condition of the drapes by carefully straightening and steaming them. Mike was clean, respectful of my home and very nice. He worked for 2/2.5 hours and left my home and drapes as it should be. Pleased the management finally understood that the job was not complete and sent Mike to resolve. read more

We were having so much trouble seeing our television because of the glare off our patio and shed. I was concerned as I did not want to block the double patio doors that let me watch our bird feeders every day! We recently had white wood blinds installed in our open floor plan kitchen and living room. Marissa came to our home to measure our windows, talk about different material and color options, and gave us a quote. She made a suggestion for our one long window to break it into thirds so there isn't a "crease" going down the middle of our window, and we LOVE having the three rows of blinds there!!! The price she gave us was firm, and there were absolutely no hidden fees or surprises. When I gave them the ok to do the project, they sent out the installer to do a second measurement just to make sure they get the exact right size, which I thought was great to double check. The blinds came in rather quickly and they immediately called me and got me on the schedule for installation. Our living area is so much brighter and we just love them!!! 10/10 would recommend them for business!!! We did our whole house of window treatments and shutters in our newly constructed home 8 years ago. Drapery Connection is extremely overpriced on everything and they don't stand behind you for service. Susette the owner, just wants to sell you. Certainly not good business. And look out for Vaiva, a smooth talking manager who we tell you anything to appease you, but basically lie to your face. I have the emails to prove it. We have had nothing but trouble with our motorized shutters. After a couple of years many motors broke down when they were used lightly and carefully. Yes things break down. We waited till more went bad before calling, so not to call for a few motors going bad as it is crazy expense to service with purchasing motors for them. It takes months for them to handle issues and Vaiva and Susette only know how to gouge the public. They will assess your home and gouge you. The next couple of years we had more motors going bad. Little by little all the motors are breaking down. Some shutters are barely used. The company came back twice already with 7 motors to date going bad. Since our last 7 bad motors service, we have two more broken bad ones. They claim this is not the norm, but do nothing but gouge you when this happens. When we called they made it seem as this never happened to anyone before. To make a long story short, when we had the service guy come out only after they collect most of your money, I researched later that they charged us 400% more per motor plus extremely expensive servicing of them. The online price was brand new, name brand and an exact match for 125.00 per motor that was installed in our home . Their price per motor $565.00. That was motor price only. And they lied and told us our motors was no longer available and these were the last 3 available. This is Absolutely false. Obviously they don't want to bother with servicing their clients. And when they do gouge you. While the motors were discontinued there was another one that worked perfectly fine as the service guy installed the newer version. When I called nicely about the 400% gouge and said I wanted a fairer price, they put me in collections. You can decide but remember you were warned here. So please take your business elsewhere. Their service and pricing is though the roof and simply outrageous!!! read more

I recently sought the assistance of Drapery Connection for some drapes in a couple of rooms for a new condo I had purchased about a year before. The agent they sent to me was named Marissa who was able to visit within the week of my call and showed up for what turned out to be over a 2 hour visit. Before she showed up she asked about my color preferences, etc. and then brought in about three books full of samples and let me know she had more in the car. Found the samples to be of unique designs and, as it turned out I found what I wanted in the first set of books I looked through. She helped me a lot in looking over and selecting the three patterns I chose (one for each room) without pushing any on me - nice! She measured each of the windows during which times I could look freely yet she was still right there if I had any further questions or needed any further information. Picket the three sets out, and she told me it would take about two months to manufacture (all custom made and placed the order just before the holidays) for which I got an estimate based on her measurements and designs I chose which included the hardware and installation. Shortly after she returned to the office I got the final quote and immediately said yes. Sure enough, two months later I was set for an installation date. He showed up and the install was done in just over two hours by a very polite individual who got the hardware up, hung the drapes, and then gave me a brief description of care for them. Wow! Already, and not even two weeks in, so many great comments about them and have to give Marissa a big shout-out since she helped me make final choices by pointing out designer hints for accenting rooms and they worked. 100% satisfied with the entire process they took me through in the purchase and recommend them to anyone. They also made custom pillows for my new sofas and sold me the fabric to have 7 chairs reupholstered. Ridiculous customer service. I need a repairman to reclip a drapery ( one clip) on to the rod and I am unable to get on a ladder to do it. Drapery connection made the drapes along with the window treatments in the whole condo. Today I was quoted $377.00 for the house call. Gouging! I am done with them. I worked with Maria in Drapery Connection. It was for my new house's master bedroom drapery. Compared to three other businesses I contacted in Chicago suburbs area, Maria was the most professional and responsible consultant I've been talked with. Maria came to our house to measure everything, taking pictures including our bedding, headboard, and furniture in the room. After that, she went back to her showroom to pick out the fabric and pattern she felt would be most suitable for our room. Not like other consultants who just showed me two or three sample books of fabric during the initial consultation in my house, Maria scheduled another time for me to go into their showroom to show me the fabric she chose for me. In their showroom, there are dozens of sample books from different manufacturers they work with. Whatever the requests I made, Maria always know where to find the fabric I love, so my only job was just to let her know what kind of style I like, and then she would narrow down to couple samples I can choose from. At last, I still chose the fabric she picked first because she has really good taste of color matching. During the whole time I was working with her, she was completely patient with me even though I spent like two hours picking fabric in her showroom. I can feel that she's an experienced designer and very knowledgeable and It's really hard nowadays to find someone who is excited about what they are doing like Maria. Her true excitement about her job made me feel that I can trust her. After I decided everything, I thought it was going to be very expensive because I chose to do Roman Shade, drapery, and the cornice on top for my 134 inch wide window and a small one on the next wall. However, things turned out that the price is even lower than one of the quotes I got and slightly higher than the other two quotes I got from other consultants who only do draperies. This review is person-specific and not necessarily representative of the entire company. I had a horrible experience with Interior Design consultant Julie Massey. I made my appointment two weeks out due to minimal availability for late appointments given my work schedule. I was interested in purchasing blinds for my new home as soon as possible and made that very clear. I was slated for a consultation on Wednesday, November 19th with Julie Massey. Oddly, Julie called me on Tuesday (11/18) to reschedule my appointment for that afternoon, which I could not accommodate due to work. It was not a huge deal; however, from this point forward I began to feel like she was doing me a favor and I was no longer the customer. On the day of our appointment, Wednesday (11/19), we had a brief consultation which was not a problem given that I knew exactly what I wanted, where, and in what color. After my consultation, the customer service and professionalism significantly declined. I reiterated I wanted my shades promptly and Julie stated she would provide me with an estimate the following day (11/20). Needless to say, I never received the estimate, so on Friday afternoon (11/21) I sent a follow-up email and did not receive a response. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and wrongfully assumed she became busy. I couldn't help but feel that I was not being taken seriously and that my project was unimportant. On Monday (11/24) I called her cell phone, left a message, and was unable to reach her until I called the 1(800)245-7790 number to figure out what the problem was. Much to my surprise, Julie was in the office; I was put on hold only to be told she "couldn't talk at the moment" but that I would receive my estimate soon. At this point, I was utterly disappointed and felt as if I was imploring for my shades. Later that afternoon, I received an estimate based on our consultation, and the lack of professionalism became even more apparent. It was evident no time nor effort was exerted despite the fact I had patiently waited days for an estimate. Julie Massey did not even have the courtesy to apologize for her lack of timeliness and did not follow-up on my missed calls. At this point, I am insulted and fely it absolutely necessary to write this review. I will never recommend nor conduct business with Julie Massey and the Drapery Connection in any capacity again. read more

About a year ago when I was redecorating my home, I contacted the Drapery Connection (DK) at the recommendation of the designer I was working with. DK put me in touch with Suzette Kubiak who helped me find just the right window treatment for my master bedroom. From start to finish, it was a smooth process and the end result looks terrific! Then, more recently, I had a problem with a window treatment in my living room that had been pretty expensive. I didn't want to replace the whole treatment, and I remembered Suzette. She figured out a way to re-work the treatment and, now, it looks like a whole new window, and it cost a small fraction of what a new treatment would! The experience we had at drapery connection was perfect. Renee was a pleasure to work with and connected with my taste immediately. She showed me the books to search thru which made it much easier to select the right window treatments for our rooms. After ordering , we received a call the following day to make an appointment for measuring our windows and it was done that same week. We were told it would take two months, which sounded very reasonable to us. Actually, they were ready in a month. Not only did the installers come, but Renee also came to make absolutely certain that everything was to our satisfaction. I paid for shutters in sept 2015. They took forever to come back to measure. Very inflexible with times to come in to measure. One of the shutters opens in the wrong direction. This company won't solve the problem. I complained in December. They called me back in april and wanted 200 to correct the problem. I refused so they agreed to send an installer to change the hinges. He came out, I explained the problem with complaints on how he installed them initially and how long it took to correct the problem. He walked out without fixing it! how unprofessional! We decided to replace our 24 year old Matchstick wood shades due to the sun coming through onto our relatively new furniture that we were keeping covered with sheets. We had a consult with Julie Sales Person/decorator at Drapery connections. She recommended Silhouette Shades by Comfortex stating it would block the UV rays 99% when closed. It does not I still have sheets on my furniture since 4/16/19 the President Mr Danaher, and Comfortex manufacturer rep came out to look and to date have not offered any remedy but state their contract shows we know what we were getting. We would not have bought these shades to the tune of $10,000 + had we known. This is a warning buyer beware if you are doing business with Drapery Connection on Skokie Valley Road . They like to say they stand by their products publicly but my personal experience is that they stand by their contract. Don't sign it!! read more

I used Drapery Connection one time to purchase Norman shutters and I'm very sorry that I did. I found out after all was said and done that most things I was told were not true and the pricing was so high compared to what I did get at another place on a subsequent order. I am sorry I ever did business with them. For other shutter orders, I went to Lewis Carpets in Northbrook (they do shutters, too) and received much better service, honest, accurate and true information and much better pricing.
