Two late evening visits to Drake's, two excellent meals, and two excellent service experiences despite the later hours that I came to eat (9pm or so both times). I have nothing but good things to say about how the restaurant is run by the people on the ground, and the chefs appear to be well trained on how to make an excellent smashburger. Before I rant. The smashburger was great. Most places don't smash the burger as thin as I do personally, but they got a nice crust on the patties and the flavor was spot on. Added grilled onions to the american cheese, pickles, and burger sauce on there. The chef nailed it. Why are they missing out on that 5th star you ask? Pricing. Some of it just flat out does not make sense. We all know by now that things have become more expensive, and that doesn't appear that it's going to change back much in our favor... however, it's not like they're charging more just for the things that cost more, they've made some things that cost very little, and still cost very little, into the realm of outrageous. The example I'll use here is pickle chips. Theirs are very tasty, and it's a generous amount. Check and check. I wish I could get them as a side item for a burger, I can't, even for an upcharge. Don't like that policy, but fine, that's how it is written. Sucks for a person eating alone who would love a smaller order of pickle chips instead of one meant to appetize four people. But, even in that big quantity. It's still pickles, which are still as they have always been... cheap. Battered in the same batter you batter everything in which you make a vat of, also very cheap. So how do you justify an order of pickle chips at $11.50, and also price your classic smashburger with a side... at also $12. One is not like the other, and most places around are still in the $6-8 range for pickle chips. Why? Because nothing has changed in the realm of pickle chips. Which makes Drake's a little greedy, at least at the corporate level. All that said, will I go back? I will. I'll just have to forego the pickle chips I love unless I'm with a big group of people. Better for me anyway. Ask yourselves, Drake's, how many sales from people like me are you missing out on in your quest to make a 400% profit on some damn pickles? read more

If you are looking for a sports bar to catch a game, then you'll be happy with the multiple tvs around the restaurant. They have a few specialty cocktails, but I'd stick with the multiple beers on tap. We had the fried pickles, delicious! The wings and the chicken dip. Then I thought I'd try a rainbow roll. Note to self.... Don't get sushi at a sports bar. It was okay, but not great. The fish was a little rubbery. Stick with the burger. This place is always extremely busy which should speak to how much it seems to be enjoyed by regulars. We haven't had the best experience with it however. The service is lacking a bit, everyone seeming rushed and not paying great attention to the customers around them. I don't mind flagging a server down but when it feels like you always have to, it can be annoying. To be fair, they were friendly and happy to help when we did flag them down. The drink selection was pretty good, likely a primary reason it's so popular. They have a wide selection of beers and ciders as well as a full bar that makes pretty decent drinks. I was surprised to find that they serve sushi and wasn't brave enough to try it but it seemed to be the most popular dish. The rest of the menu is a little limited but was good. As I mentioned, it can be very crowded so that impacts the ambiance a bit. It also feels a little cramped with more than a handful of people around. We ordered our food and drinks and the waitress let us know that the hot top was down so no tacos or sandwiches. Crazy because that's like half the menu. We went to Drakes at lunch on a Friday. It wasn't too busy. We sat on the inside patio. Waiter came took our drink orders . Returned with the drinks but forgot a water. He then took our order but didn't write anything down. Fine , maybe he has a great memory. Food came and one order was completely wrong. He then argued with our friend that that's what she ordered. When she stated again her order he said " Oh , I only work here one day and forgot they had it. There was a long dark hair in one of the salads. He took it away and returned a few minutes later. My kids and I did not have a good experience today, February 25th,. We usually love Drake's and frequent the Burlington, NC location at least once a month. Today though, my daughter had a well sauced dead fly in/on her crab rangoon roll. Now, I understand that sometimes these things happen. The waitress handled the situation well, and she was all around amazing. My daughter did receive a new roll (although she didn't have an appetite after). The manager did come over and apologize. However, the roll should have been taken off the bill at MINIMUM. It would have been the right thing to do. Instead, I purchased the roll, and this has left a bad taste in my mouth probably more than the fly would have if it was consumed. So, all be warned... You might get more than you bargained for here. The seating selection they have is the weirdest I have seen and there isnt really a great option. So we waited and once we were seated we ordered an appetizer (pretzels and cheese). It took over 30 minutes for the appetizer to come out. The pretzels were warm and tasted good but the cheese was really thick and didn't taste great and wasn't hot. It was about another 10-15 minutes before the entrees came out ( they brought the salads at the same time and we hardly had room at the table). Also DO NOT order a "side salad". They will call it a blt salad but it is coleslaw with bacon on it. It is not good. My wife got the "club" sandwich it was odd. Some of it was cold like the turkey but the cheese was in like an in between state. Not fully melted but not cold. I got a burger that was pretty dry. The atmosphere was fun and nice. Staff was nice, not overly attentive but they food was below average and for what we ordered (we dont like sushi so i can't speak to that) there are better options at different places. Stopped in for lunch with mom and friends. Honestly was excited to find a restaurant that had both burgers and sushi to meet everyone's food options. Was excited for the steak and California roll option. But was shocked when the smallest steak came out. Plus it was not seasoned at all. Not sure if waitress misunderstood since one person in the party needed a salt-free burger; and instead made the entire table salt-free. Our order took over an hour to arrive and then one person's meal didn't come. We were told the kitchen only had 5 workers and we were asked to be patient. Finally the burger came but their tater tots never arrived. Twice the server told us she was going to send the manager without us asking and when the manager finally didn't come, she told us she was "too busy running around with her head cut off." - I'm not sure why did she offer to have the manager come see us? We went Saturday and I got the Sriracha wings with the jalapeño barbecue sauce, so good. We also got the crunchy Texas roll which was just as good. The customer service is always great. This was like our fourth time visiting and every time it has been good. They have plenty of tables and bar space depending on what type of restaurant you like it's family friendly. I'm giving it a star because the manager attempted to rectify the situation. Our server was brand new. Our experience will hopefully be a lesson on how to treat people. We won't be back because we were only in town for a soccer tournament. We were seated without silverware, ignored after seated, and items were brought to the table cold or forgotten entirely after waiting a long time to place orders. I was frustrated as I had not eaten all day. However, with back-to-back games, I prefer to stay and eat with my son. So...I legit waited for 17 minutes for a glass of Prosecco - for it to be room temperature by the time I received it. (SIDEBAR: I was never asked if I wanted another drink.) There were 4 tables with customers actually sitting when I arrived on the side I ate at with 2 people sitting at the bar. It was Monday at 2:38pm, so it wasn't during a busy lunch break or hectic time. There were 3 servers, 2 bartenders, and 2 managers. The thought of me just walking out crossed my mind SEVERAL times, however I was patient. I ordered the mini cheeseburgers with tater tots...I mean you can't mess that up! The menu left a lot to be desired, but no worries UNLESS I'm with a group that that insist on coming here, I'll decline and go elsewhere. I visited this restaurant this past Friday and it was rockin! It's the kind of place where they can roll up some of the walls and open it up. They have big ceiling fans going and you feel like you're sitting at an outdoor bar. It created a very unique atmosphere. They have huge tv screens showing everything from stupid cat videos, sports games, and music videos. If you don't like a loud restaurant then this isn't your place. We were first told the wait would be 40 minutes. We actually waited 20 minutes. The employees were super nice and knowledgeable. The service was spot on! I ordered a white wine sangria and it was delicious. I don't consume alcohol very much but I do love some sangria. They have lots of craft beers and cocktails to choose from also. I ordered the cheddar burger and my significant other ordered the All American burger. They smash their burgers so you're not getting this really thick half pound burger that you can barely bite into. We both ordered sweet potato waffle fries. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because our fries were stone cold and our burgers were lukewarm. We were soooo disappointed. We had driven from Greensboro to Burlington to try out this joint and we received lukewarm food. Honestly, the Freddy's around the corner serves a much better burger. When I order a dish that is supposed to be hot I expect it to be hot. We didn't complain because we certainly weren't going to wait for them to make a whole new order. My SO ordered some tuna sushi that he said was very good. But the atmosphere is fun, the prices are very affordable and employees are exceptionally nice. But I'm not eating lukewarm food anymore.
