They closed unexpectedly without warning. But when they were open, they provided wonderful service repairing my three toilets that had started leaking after many years. They also installed a new pump for me under the house. Everything was working. I thought they would be my plumbers for life. One day I woke up in the new pump was leaking, and I couldn't find them. I learned that they had closed due to some problems. What a shame because they were wonderful and right in my own backyard location. Luckily, I was able to get a hold of someone that had helped them out once before and he arrived and the problem was minor, just a little hose that come loose. He repaired it, and I was back in business. But Drainpipe and their employees are a great loss to our neighborhood. So sorry you're gone. read more

If you're a small job or if you're installing a solar water heater I would not recommend this company. I had a small house built last year and it was so difficult trying to get them to come complete it. They would call the day before telling me that I didn't have what needed to be done for them to complete the appointment. However I did, and they begrudgingly came. I truly feel like they were trying to cancel the appointment to do a more lucrative job, I almost had to beg them to complete the job. They installed a solar water heater for me. They told me it wouldn't work because I wouldn't have enough sun. I live in honokaa.. there is plenty of sun! Just like they said, it didn't work. But not for lack of sun. It wasn't installed properly. I called them to ask them to come look at it because it wasn't working at all and was told it was because I didn't have enough sun yet again. I had solar electric installed on my house, and the guy who installed that told me exactly what they had done wrong (he used to work for the company that manufactures them). I called the office with him there and he explained to them what was wrong. They sent a guy out to fix it and he changed the dipstick, which made it work slightly better. But I still can't get a full bath tub of water. I had the guy who installed the solar out again and asked him about it and he looked at it more in depth. They did lots more wrong beside the dipstick, which he thinks is probably not long enough anyway, even after they changed it once. I am going to be paying him to fix it for me, because I can't trust them to come out and fix it properly without first arguing with me. I really wish I had read reviews on this company before I hired them. They came recommended by my builders, but I don't think they're recommending them anymore. Owner contacted me this morning and stated that they charge for a "diagnosis" and that the receptionists always state that. When I questioned him about the "Free Estimates", he stated "we don't give free estimates and our guys go around all day doing "diagnosis' ". I drove there in the morning and he wrote us in for Friday... once again no call, no show, not answering phone, and staying home from work again for no reason. It's okay to be busy and have to reschedule but as a MF paying customer we deserve a phone call, at least. Do not use unless you like to be stood up. I had an appointment on May 3rd for a leaking pipe in the wall. The appointment was made on April 11th. They called for additional information, but I missed it. Called them back and got their voicemail and left a message. Never got a callback. I emailed them on April 28th to confirm the appointment. I got a response to my email this morning stating they are phasing out residential plumbing service and that my appointment was canceled. I hardly doubt that this was a spur of the moment decision. Don't trust your home to this barrel of monkeys!!! They installed my solar hot water: The first guy came and we talked it all out and made a plan of exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it. Seems good, send your guy to install... I couldn't be there when the (1st) installer started work; however, I worked out exactly what I wanted with the first guy, so the installer should know what to do, right? Wrong!!! He just did what was easy, and when I got there and my panels were pointing the complete wrong direction, he said "oh well, its too late". He "assured" me it would work "great", if you only "look at it in 2D from above its pointing almost exactly west"; except it was pointing northwest. First off, even due west is a horrible direction since everyone in Hilo knows it almost always gets cloudy on the mountain in the afternoon/evening. He had zero business doing any solar work. He also left a huge mess in my attic, garage, and around the water heater, of all his garbage and leftover material. Needless to say, the system barely worked and didn't work in the winter time hardly at all. So, they came back. The 2nd installer did a fine job; however, I also learned that the first installer installed the wrong controller unit from what I wanted. He just decided I wanted the solar pump, which is pointed such that every morning the pump turns on BEFORE the panels heat up and actually pumps cold water into my tank!!! At least, once the panels were re-aligned to where I said they should, the system was working 1,000 times better, even if they were getting flooded with cold water every morning. As if that wasn't bad enough... I was forced to leave Hawaii for better medical care. Since we left the house vacant, while selling it, we had the system turned off, so it wouldn't over heat from not being used. No problems there, had a guy drain the panels and unplug the pump. 2 months later, my house enters escrow... I scuedule them to turn the system back on for the home inspection. I couldn't be there, so my real estate agent met the guy instead. I knew something was wrong, when she told me he said, "he didn't understand why I'd need to turn the system off, he's never seen one get hotter than 120 degrees"... If he's never seen a system get to barely functioning hot, then he has no business working on ANY system unsupervised!!! Well, guess what... the next day the home inspector finds "solar hot water system completely non-functioning"!!! So the system is not working at all, after 2 days now, the tank is at 76 degrees. ALSO... the roof penetrations are "poorly done" and require a professional roofer come fix them, as well as the water that has been dripping into my attic!!! So now I'm paying a roofer to fix their poor workmanship and hoping the next guy can turn the sytem on, so I can sell my house. read more

But I made three different appointments, and they never showed up for any of them -- and worse no one took the trouble to call to explain what happened or apologize. Drainpipe plumbing doesn't deserve one star! I tried getting an appointment for three weeks to service my solar hot water system that stopped heating water. Reesha, the receptionist/office manager, told me, "We're three weeks out." She wasn't smart enough to book an appointment that far out, even after I told her I was a five year customer and the problem wasn't needing immediate service as I had back-up on-demand hot water. I called for three weeks trying to get an appointment when I finally told her to book a three week away appointment. Reesha was rude, argumentative and disrespectful to me in the conversation we had. I wanted to speak to the owner to let him know of the fiasco in an email to the company. Reesha must have gotten that email, she sent me an email and cancelled the appointment and told me to go elsewhere. If my receptionist acted like that to my clients, I would have fired her on the spot. Ditching long-term clients isn't good business practices. I had the worst experience with this company. They installed a shower for us. It worked fine for a few months until the seal began to break away. The plumber that they sent to "fix" it even commented that he had never seen an install done the way it had been installed. They "fixed" the install, & immediately during the next use of the shower the house flooded. Now they are refusing to take a look at their "Repair". Drainpipe Plumbing recently performed maintenance on our 10-yr-old solar hot water heater, which reminded me of what an amazing company they still are. Finding quality professionals for the sub-contractor components of our "owner builder" home (2008) was sometimes hit and miss, but with Drainpipe, we really hit the mark. Our original install included whole-house copper plumbing with tie-ins to the jet pump from our catchment system, laundry room, kitchen, hose bibs (six), four bathrooms (incl. the garage), outdoor shower, and our solar hot water system. This sizeable installation has been infallible for the last 10 years. Decades of experience doesn't necessarily equate to a positive outcome since "we as customers" often deal with employees who may be new. But in the case of Drainpipe, the crew that worked in our home was exceptional, we were always in good hands. This is the same today as it was ten years ago. Their employees are friendly, on time, do quality work and clean up after themselves. Plus, Drainpipe's fees were and still are extremely fair and more competitive than others. We are thankful Drainpipe recently reminded us about replacing the anode in the hot-water heater, because the anode wears out and it is what protects the overall plumbing of the house. I was getting desperate because our on demand propane hot water heater stopped working. I asked them to come over to take a look, which they did the very next day hence why I gave them more than 1 star. The job is to re-pipe an existing line to a new hot water heater (which I am buying) in a shed that is 5 feet away from the old water heater. After explaining to the plumber what I wanted he stated that it was a "straight forward" job. Well when I received a quote from this company it wasn't as straight forward as they claimed. The quote I received was short, unitemized, and did not explain in details the extravagant cost they wanted to charge me. I requested another quote in hopes of getting a more fair price, but they did not reply. I shopped around for another plumber and the same work cost me 80% less than what this company wanted to charge. My first mistake was calling this company and the second is showing them how desperate I was. So beware there are other plumbers (actually a lot of other plumbers out there) that can do probably the same job probably much better and much more affordable than this company. read more

Drainpipe Plumbing installed a solar hot water heater in August 2018 after being referred to them from a representative from ProVision Solar. On the day of the installation, I informed the worker that I was leaving for work and if he needs anything, let my 17 year old son know and he'll contact me. When I got home around 5:30 pm, they installed the panels on the wrong roof! They also left a mess in my laundry room where they installed the water heater. I called them the next morning to inform them about the panels being installed on the wrong roof. They didn't apologize at all! They came on a Friday to install the panels on the correct roof but left behind their leftover black hose and an electrical gadget! I emailed them on Monday to inform them about the items the workers left behind and all they said was "thank you, i'll have the technicians stop by to pick them up" again not one apology. Spoke to Dillan on Monday and asked about the holes in the roof and he said it should be fine because they use something that will last a long time and if I should put PV's, I can use the same holes. He said they can come by in 5 years to check on the holes but i have to remember to call them. What kind of customer service is that! Not once did he ever apologize for their mistake!! How can you install panels on the wrong roof! We met with the estimator and he drew a picture on his worksheet! We informed him which roof to install it on! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Very disappointed and angry. Installed a solar hot water system in June of 2012. Immediately noticed a cloudy section on one of the panels. Installation guy said no worries it is normal. A year later the same spot is leaking. Drainpipe said no worries we will fix it. Took them over a month to make the repair, and then they sent me a bill. They never gave an estimate, never said they would charge. Be careful when dealing with this business that uses faulty materials and does not guarantee their work. read more
