They were one of the few places willing to give an estimate over the phone (common problem, takes an hour, here's what it costs). Other places wanted to send a person out for an estimate, and one was even going to charge me for it. Np thank you. So, we talked through things, and they said they wanted to save me some money and not ping me with the weekend surcharge. Well, we still had one bathroom that wasn't backing up the drain every time we flushed, so we were willing to tough things out until Monday to save a few bucks. Kudos to American Sewer for not rabidly jumping on the chance to gouge us for some weekend work. Monday rolled around and the guy showed up promptly after lunch as promised. He was very courteous and respectful of our home, and he got straight to work. Diagnosis? A clog right at the main cleanout. Easy peasy. And as long as he was there and had the equipment, he asked if I wanted him to put the camera down the sewer line to check for roots or other problems. It may or may not have been entire necessary as we've never had problems, but with an older home it's something a homeowner should know. Every single step of the way, he was very clear about what he was doing, why he was doing it, and he very clearly explained any service that would cost extra. At no point was I ever in the dark as to what the bill would be. Sure enough, that old cast iron pipe had roots growing in. So we went ahead with the rooter to break them up, and in the process the sewer pipe partially collapsed. Like, the roots had broken through, and the only thing still holding the pipe together was the roots that had to be removed because they were obstructing the pipe. It was unfortunate but bound to happen considering the shape that the pipe was in, and I suppose it's better that it collapsed while we had the scope there to see the damage from the inside. In the end, I was satisfied with the service. Had it not been for the pipe collapsing, it would have been a routine in and out job for a fair price. I was given not one but three references from them for replacing that pipe, and they advised that I still check around for a better deal anyway. The owner even gave a follow-up call to make sure I was satisfied with the service. American Sewer was the right choice to make. Fair price, clear estimate over the phone, and the job was done in a timely manner. I hope to never need them again (don't ask me about cleaning up my basement floor), but I won't hesitate to calm if I need their services.

Mark Schwaab is a "Master Plumber" and his prices definitely reflect that. I initially used his…read morecompany to install a water softener, which went smoothly. No complaints. I spent $1825 for this in July 2021. I also used him for my sump pump discharge system also. (My pipes were freezing during the winter). Mark provided a system with a blue hose that I was to use during the warm months and then remove during the winter months. I paid around $500 for this visit. Well...the blue hose lasted maybe 2 days. It was so flimsy that it tore in several spots. Back came Mark with a much better hose that didn't rip, but I had to pay him AGAIN $365!! ($120 for parts and $245 for labor). I considered this to be highway robbery. Lastly, I had Mark replace my sump pump system itself in May of 2023 ($630 for a new sump pump). In September of 2024 it wasn't working (constantly running without water being in the well). I was pissed and texted him to let him know that it was running constantly and to ask about the warranty. I also said that unless he was willing to provide a free service call, I would be using another plumber whose fees were more reasonable. When Mark showed up at my house, he was angry. He said that the sump pump broke because my discharge hose was kinked. I attempted to tell him that the hose was only kinked for a few hours (my lawn service company had moved the hose the previous afternoon in order to mow). Mark didn't want to hear it. When I was trying to talk to him, he walked away saying "don't yell at me about a malfunctioning sump pump when it's your fault. I'm giving you a free replacement even though it's your fault". Suffice it to say, I won't be using his company again. A customer should never be yelled at.

This horse sh*t company sent a kid out to remove our toilet to scope the sewer line because the…read morepeople buying our house wanted it checked out during the inspection. When the kid was done he mentioned to me "I broke one of the bolts off so you will have to replace it yourself." I said you're supposed to do that and he told me: "Nope. We don't carry any bolts." I ran down stairs to the bathroom to see what kind of mess he left me and there to my amazement is the toilet sitting on the tile, the tank lid on the sink, bathroom rugs piled in a corner and the opening where the toilet sits wide open with the old wax ring still around the opening!! He also washed his filthy hands in our sink and didn't bother to clean it up! I ran upstairs, but he was already gone. Now, I didn't request this service to be done, the buyer of our house did but they expected ME to buy new bolts, wax ring and reseat it myself!!! I WAS LIVID!! This is THE WORST OUTFIT I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!! They tore apart our bathroom and then left it that way for me to fix and clean up! NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHADY PIECE OF CRAP COMPANY! They expected a 69 year old man to clean up and reseat the damn toilet himself, after THEY took it off!! If I could leave pictures of the freaking mess, I would. I still cannot believe that they did this and then just walked away! Oh and by the way, they wanted me to sign a WAIVER because they re NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THEY MIGHT INFLICT! I just sit here in amazement that a company like this exists!! UPDATE: I JUST TALKED TO JOE, THE OWNER OF DRAIN BUSTERS AND HE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE UNDERSTANDING!! HE SYMPATHIZED WITH WHAT WE WENT THROUGH AND SAID HE WILL RETRAIN WHOEVER WAS OUT HERE. I WOULD USE DRAIN BUSTERS AGAIN, JUST BECAUSE HE LISTENED TO ME AND DID NOT MAKE ANY EXCUSES. SO WHATEVER I WROTE ON TOP, WAS OUT OF SHEAR FRUSTRATION AFTER WHAT I WENT THROUGH. JOE, YOU ARE A VERY CLASSY GUY!
