Specialties
My view on counseling is that it's purpose is to remind you of who you really are. To discover one's best self, even if it's hidden underneath the difficulties and emotional pain that you may be experiencing, now.
I have specialized in EMDR therapy for over ten years, and offer individual and group counseling for those with histories of trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, physical abuse, and emotional abuse.
No, my counseling practice is not only limited to working with women and men who have traumatic stress. But, I know it can be hard to find someone who understands trauma. I do, should you need it.
I also premiered "EquiLateral," the first protocol for integrating Equine-Assisted Therapy and EMDR Therapy. So, Equine-Assisted Counseling or Equine-Assisted EMDR is also available, offering you additional opportunities to heal through the power of connecting with horses.
History
Established in 2006.
I have worked with individuals, families, and groups in a variety of Virginia and Phoenix counseling settings including outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, and special education schools.
My Phoenix counseling experience included my supervising a federally funded EMDR trauma treatment program. I supervised trauma therapists and interns, conducted workshops, conducted public awareness raising events, and saw clients. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nevertheless, I missed working with as many clients as I used to. And, though I worked with a wide range of people, I always had a passion for working with survivors of trauma such as sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. So, I created Dragonfly International Therapy.
Today, my practice has evolved to also include my having written two books on trauma recovery, as well as the first book on integrating EMDR and Equine-Assisted Counseling. I also provide EMDR Consultation for those EMDR therapists seeking to pursue Certification in EMDR.
