What Jess brings to the table is something more, which was a genuine concern for my child. On one of our conversatios she said " I went on this run and I was thinking about"... she was thinking about my kid and how to help. She made me feel like we ( we because as parents, things that affect our kids affect us) were "seen." I think more often than not people get complacent in their careers, including the medical or mental health field, which I would chalk up to human nature. However, she never made me feel like my kid was number or just another patient. She was someone going through something and Jess was going to figure it out. We had to stop seeing Jess due to some circumstances out of my control. Which only lead us to a merry go round of therapists and it wasn't until then, that I was able to fully appreciate her, not only for her emotional investment in my child but also for her instincts, which were proven to be spot on. While on that mental health merry go round, I learned that not every therapist has the capability to convey a genuine sense of commitment and concern for their client/patient , however Jess did. Taking on someone else's emotional pain, trauma, anxieties and fears has to be one of the hardest jobs I could imagine, especially when it comes to children...so I can understand having and internal shut off valve and not fault anyone needing to enact that protective mechanism. But as a parent who's child hurts....I sure as shit want someone who sees my kid, as I see them. Once again I saw Jess early in her career. Not only do I magine that she has gotten better with time but I imagine now that she has her own practice, she chooses people who values their clients as much as she does. ...I did recently refer someone here and they had positive reviews about Jess, Teena and the facility.

I attended the SABR program beginning in December 2022. The group was really great when run by Debbie McRae until May 2023. After that, I felt a very weird and uncomfortable shift, and the therapist that led the program left seemingly out of nowhere. In March 2023, Floyd Godfrey, the owner and executive director of Family Strategies was accused of sexual harassment by employees, and his license was voluntarily revoked as you can read for yourself here: azbbhe.us/node/1003. I encourage potential patients to do their own research into Floyd Godfrey and come to their own conclusions. Family Strategies has not provided honesty and transparency to clients to allow them to make the best and right decision for their care with all of the facts provided to them. It could have been handled so much better and the practice could have built trust with clients by being honest and transparent. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. The truth always comes out, and unfortunately, there's often more to a story so more may come to light in time. Even though Floyd Godfrey is no longer allowed to see patients, as the owner, he's still profiting off of clients so there's absolutely no way that I feel safe continuing services at this practice.  I will tell everyone I know to stay away from Family Strategies.

I contacted Michelle and she said that my wife is very guarded about her issues and the likelihood is that she doesn't want to work on herself. Michelle was correct. Counseling is very difficult to get right. Some counselors are too soft - others too hard/aloof…read more Some just want to chat with you while others want to do exercises. Troy Stone is one of the better counselors I've been to. He is honest, calls you on your BS, relatable, and has plenty of examples. He will chat about your day-to-day stuff but he always pulls it back to - what is your goal and what is the science behind it (love language, attachment theory, trauma, etc.). Other MFT counselors I've gone to barely touch on such subjects which greatly hinders long term fixes - to fix what is wrong today you must understand where you came from. If you simply talk about what pissed you off last week and never touch on why or what happened to you in the past that predisposed you to those emotions... then you're just spinning your wheels.
