Santa Margarita Preserve is a very popular spot for hikers and anyone looking to connect with…read morenature. The preserve has several well-marked, directional trails, which is super helpful in case you get turned around. It does get very busy, and parking is almost always full unless you arrive early or don't mind waiting. The views are beautiful, with lots of flowers along the way. I personally did about 5 miles, but the trails definitely go beyond that. It was a great hike--challenging but enjoyable--and perfect for my dog and me. The trail is dog-friendly, but we did come across horseback riders, so a friendly reminder to be mindful of others on the trail, especially horses, and to keep your dogs under control. Overall, this was an amazing hike and I highly recommend this trail!‍

I'd consider this to be a mild hike, more like a nature walk. There's multiple river crossings throughout to be explored. We crossed at six, which was easily up to my knees. The stream was cold, refreshing, and completely clear. You can easily spot fish and we were lucky enough to see turtles. I also love that there's a sign at the beginning of the hike that lists/dates recent wildlife sightings. It does get incredibly busy here. Despite visiting on a Wednesday the parking lot was completely filled by 10am. Highly recommend arriving early if you want to snag a spot.

My wife and I were married on October 11, 2025, and every moment--from our very first venue tour to the final minutes of our wedding night--was exceptional. Julie was at the heart of it all. After visiting several venues in the area, Temecula Creek Cottages immediately stood out as the clear choice. Not only is the property stunning, but the cottages themselves were incredibly convenient and had everything we and our wedding party needed. From day one, Julie was extraordinarily organized, thoughtful, reassuring, and genuinely a dream to work with. Her vendor recommendations saved us countless hours of planning, and we were thrilled with each and every one. I truly don't know how we would have brought our vision to life without Julie. Beyond being an outstanding wedding planner, she has a wonderful sense of humor and made the entire process fun. She was available whenever we needed her, start to finish, and by the end she felt like family. My wife and I cannot recommend Julie or Temecula Creek Cottages highly enough. Thank you a million times over to Julie and the entire team for making our dream day a reality.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the beauty, the serenity, and the undeniable charm that this property radiates from every corner. The grounds are stunningly beautiful--lush, thoughtfully maintained landscaping, picturesque pathways, and a sense of privacy that makes you feel as though you've stepped into your own hidden oasis. It offered the perfect blend of elegance and rustic romance, giving us the intimate atmosphere we were hoping for without sacrificing refinement or comfort. The scenery created the most breathtaking backdrop for our ceremony and photos; every angle felt like a magazine cover. The cottages themselves were absolutely perfect. Each one was cozy, comfortable, and full of character, creating an environment that truly enhanced the magic of the weekend. They gave us and our loved ones that "wedding retreat" feeling--quaint, warm, and incredibly special. Waking up on the property on our wedding day felt peaceful, grounding, and unforgettable. But beyond the beauty of the venue, what truly elevated our entire experience was working with Julie Edwards, owner of Simply Regal. Julie is, without exaggeration, the greatest wedding planner we have ever come across. Her talent, professionalism, and dedication are genuinely unmatched. From the very beginning, she approached our wedding with a level of care and creativity that was absolutely mind-blowing. Julie has an extraordinary ability to take your vision--even when it's not fully formed--and bring it to life in ways you didn't even realize were possible. She thinks of every detail, big and small, and executes with a level of precision and grace that made the entire day flow flawlessly. Her organization, her calm presence, and her intuitive understanding of what a couple needs (often before they even know themselves) transformed our wedding day into something truly spectacular. It wasn't just that she planned a wedding--it's that she crafted an experience. Every moment felt intentional, personal, and seamless. We felt supported, cared for, and genuinely understood throughout the entire process. Julie has a gift, and we are so grateful we got to benefit from it. If you're considering Temecula Creek Cottages for your wedding, do it. The venue is magical. And if you have the chance to work with Julie from Simply Regal, don't hesitate--she will elevate your day beyond anything you could imagine. Our wedding was absolutely perfect, and we owe so much of that to this venue and to Julie Edwards. They helped create memories we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

My friend and I went for a birthday celebration. It was just the two of us. On March 14, it was a…read morefine spring day. Perfect to be on a mountain top in the sunshine sifting through rocks and hunting for gems. The Oceanview mine works in finding a number of different quartz, Tourmoline, and other gems. Take a look at their website. For $75 for an adult, you get all the equipment that you need to sift through rock and gravel piles which they set out for you. There are a big tables, the two grades of sorters, a bucket, trowel, and toothbrush to clean off rocks. Also a big tray of water to rinse your rocks in and clean them off. There were igneous rocks with black tourmaline and tiny pieces of garnet. It was a lot of fun. You have to get there promptly at the opening time in order to get situated and the digging/sorting/sifting begins sharp at 10 AM. You have three hours and 45 minutes to go through all the rocks that you want. Bring your own gloves! They also have shaded umbrellas, and 5 gallon buckets to purchase that you can load up with rocks to sift through on your own at home. While it was a fun adventure, and I've never been to a quarry mine that you could actually look for your own gems, the staff did leave a little to training, although they were very good about going around and assisting you. However, I think if you really want to find something, you need to educate yourself ahead of time as to what you are looking for and what is available. Five minute presentation to 50 people wouldn't you can't even really look at the rocks and no handout or guide sheet for reference was a drawback. They don't take credit cards for the entrance. You have to pay cash. Children are a lower price. But they do take credit cards for memorabilia, gemstones that they have turned into jewelry and other items. And also for the rentals. I thought the purchasing of a 5 gallon bucket for $10 was too much. They don't make it clear that if you want to take home a 5 gallon bucket of extra stones to sort through then you can bring your own. I thought for the price of $75 a 5 gallon bucket would be included. They are not. There are picnic tables in the shade where you can have your own lunch, there is a grill you can use if you want to utilize that. Bring all of your own beverages, water, and snacks and meal. There is a short tour that you can take of the areas that they mine on this mountain. You load up on a four wheel vehicle that holds six people and spin around the mountainside, stopping at the entrance of three of the mine shafts. This is only about a 5 to 7 minute tour. They don't allow you to stop get out and take pictures in front of the mine openings. This was certainly a drawback. They could've extended the "tour" to let you get out and take pictures in front of the mine shafts. Perhaps it is a liability issue I don't know. I would not do this for a second time since I've already done it, without further educating myself about gem hunting and what exactly I was looking for. But for a one time adventure, it was fun and we had a beautiful spring day. Don't forget your sunblock and sunglasses and hat!

The drive up to the Pala Chief dig site was not too difficult. Our tesla with a low suspension could do it. The tutorial from the staff was quick, and the 4 hour dig time was definitely enough. By the end it got really hot; so definitely bring a hat and a lot of water. It had rained a couple days before, so we found a bunch of tourmalines on the surface. My best find was a 50 gram blue cap pink tourmaline that I found near the top of the mountain. Found a bunch of pinks, some greens, some blue ones, and a bunch of large quartz pieces.

Pala Mesa Resort - Reception site, all I can say is the reception site which is adjacent to the ceremony site is just gorgeous! Lighting can be customized.

Check-in was easy, and the staff was very nice and welcoming. There were a couple of minor issues that affected our stay. The sliding glass door is a bit dated and had a gap that allowed cold air and outside noise into the room. It felt like sleeping with a window open, and my face and ears became noticeably cold. I was thankful I had packed a thermal and jogging suit, which helped keep me warm. I was eventually able to find a temporary solution by placing a pillow against the door and pushing the desk forward to help block the draft. Parking was also a bit challenging on the second night. The first night went perfectly, as the front desk gave clear directions and we were able to park at Building F1 by the stairs. After returning from a concert around 1:00 a.m. the second night, parking F1 was full, and I had to park farther away between Buildings F3 and F4. Walking back late at night in the cold felt uncomfortable and scary. I did mention the sliding glass door issue to the front desk, but there were no other king-size suites available. Despite these small challenges, the room itself was lovely and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The funnest part of this trail is there is choose your own adventure. Along the way you choose left or right over and over. You can't go wrong because it is a beautiful view no matter which way you turn. The best part of all is if you are the type to get lost like me it will spit you out into the parking lot because it's a huge loop. A huge loop with different trails what a great place! The only reason I gave it a four-star instead of a five is unfortunately it's built right on the side of mission Ave which is the main avenue going into fallbrook so there is a lot of traffic noise. That is only part of the trail though not the whole thing. I will be back here on my days off because it's an easy going 1 mile so I feel like I barely had to do anything, got into nature and got my steps in.
