Peter Changs is now closed and Asian Diner is rebranded so I will discount the later until I go again under the new name. But what made the food standout was the chicken wasn't overly sauced making me feel like a guilty at how unhealthy it already is. I had it w fried rice and the combo egg roll. It was so good I wanted to come back a couple days later. For context I eat Chinese maybe 4-5 times a year. It's so unhealthy. The service was meh. The server wasn't the warmest person, not rude just not personable. She took the order, delivered the meal and drinks and checked in is periodically. Ambiance, nothing to write home about. I brought me now wife here a long time ago for homecoming dinner. Then it felt like a really nice spot. As an adult, definitely not a date night location. Usually I order Togo Combo fried rice chicken pork and beef no shrimp. And a few egg rolls. Which is really good. This time I ordered sesame chicken which was not good. Sauce was kinda watery. Felt like they didn't cook this meal with love and even decided to eat in this time. I think I will just go back to my original dish. This has been around for a very long time and it has been awhile since I have been here so I decided let's get here today for take out. I am getting Hunan chicken, beef Cho Cho's, veggie Singapore noodles and veggie lo mein. To top it of I got 3 egg rolls. The inside is decorated very nice even though I'm getting this to go. The staff was friendly and the food was ready for pickup when promised. My wife said the beef Cho Cho's were horrible, they were very grissally they did not look like beef, we just threw them away, but the rest of the food was tasty. read more

The original owners and business have been here since the 80's. I remember coming here when I worked at Service Merchandise next door when I was 14. The decor hasn't changed whatsoever which is the only need in the establishment. The food was still amazing! One of the few sit down, really good Chinese food places in town! We had for appetizers the spring rolls, egg rolls, crab rangoon (amazing sauce served with it), chicken wings (massive and super crispy). Dinner we had beef and broccoli and General Tao chicken and shrimp (massive shrimp). All of our food was incredible and the prices were reasonable! Next time we come, I will have to get the Original Flaming Volcano! This drink you don't want to miss out on! read more

Once a week, for the past two-plus years, as I travel from Arlington to Troy, VA, I stopped at Dragon Inn for take-out Chinese food to bring for the weekend-generally a $30-$40 order. Today when I arrived, the hostess was taking a phone order. I waited my turn. While she was adding up the phone order, the phone rang again and she asked the caller to hold. Apparently, she needed to finish adding up the total to relay to the original phone customer, which she did. After she disconnected from the original caller, and while I was still standing there, she proceeded to take the order from the second caller. I was flabbergasted. I said, "Are you really going to take that order before you help me?" She gave me a look like I was annoying her. Not a good look in a service industry. I left and went to CHINA KING a few blocks away in the same direction I was headed. So, from now on--52 times a year--I will be stopping at CHINA KING, where, at CHINA KING, I found the dishes to be very good with HUGE portions. EDIT: To answer your questions: Yes, it only took this one instance for me to write them off. I hate going into restaurants anyway during COVID and this was excruciatingly frustrating standing there. First off, I'm a Chinese food snob so I know what I'm talking about. This is the best Chinese food in Virginia and San Diego (the last two places I've lived). Everything we've had has been amazing; crab Rangoon, wonton soup, fried wonton, all the entrees! The cocktail menu is like something straight out of Disneyland. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! Also of note, the food doesn't weigh you down like most Chinese joints. You actually good after eating it. Even as leftovers! I go out to eat to enjoy the food, have pleasant conversation and not have to spend a lot of money doing so. We gave this place a shot and it we should have went somewhere else. Interior is so dated and dark. They only had 3 beers to choose from, mine had expired 2 months ago. The glasses were covered in food/drink/syrup stuff/mystery liquid (and not just a few water spots, like covered..and very obvious and different colors), the plates had food dried on it also, the sauce bowl is clearly a community bowl and had dried up soy sauce all over it. The steamed dumplings were so mushy inside, couldn't even eat it. We got our main dish to go because we just felt disgusted and didn't want to eat another bite. The staff was ok, not very friendly, but not rude. Maybe because we just kept our comments to ourselves and didn't complain. I think all of these good reviews are people getting delivery or carry out. Maybe the orange chicken would have been better....but I will not be finding out. Horrible customer service! Picked up an order and got all the way home to find that they gave us the wrong dish. I ordered Chicken and Cashews, with nothing additional, which came directly off their menu. We called and they said that we should have ordered it plain! On the menu, it does not say anything about having mushrooms or water chestnuts! That was a completely different dish! They hung up on us twice and told us it was our fault! Somewhere in between, they begrudgingly said that they would refund us for the dish. To date, I haven't seen a dime returned and we were without dinner! They refused to take responsibility! we just tried calling and they would't even pick up the phone, they are supposedly open until 10 pm, and I called at 930 pm,, I guess they were slow, its a monday night, and they decided to close early, I would just like consistency. I hate getting the ignore, disconnect, thing. They have good food, but the portions have gotten smaller, no soda, now they give water, and the egg rolls have shrunk to half the size they were, and now they are hollow.... and you have to pay $1.35 for the fried crunchy things, give me a break, I told them they overcharged me for an extra meal, and she was like... basically whatever.....,oh and they only give chopsticks now, IF you ask for them!!??!! they complain they are going to go out of business, but look to yourself and you will see why! read more

Would I eat here again? Yep, planning on it next week! Good Chinese food is hard to come by...at least in Fredericksburg. I tried another local place earlier this week and was disappointed. After heading to Yelp to find another local recommendation, Hubs and I decided to try Dragon Inn. THE FOOD I am not a fan of restaurants in strip malls, but don't let the location (or the dated decor) stop you from trying this joint. If you are craving freshly prepared, unique cuisine, this is it. Hubs and I ordered the same thing we got at the place that sucked so we could have a pretty direct comparison: General Tso's chicken Lo mein noodles Szechuan beef Steamed rice The General Tso's was tender, had a yummy sauce, and didn't have that reheated from frozen exterior that way too many places serve. My only complaint is that is wasn't spicy enough. It had a barely detectable spiciness despite having a few rehydrated peppers in it. It came with a beautiful salad on the side consisting of (I think) thinly sliced cabbage and carrot, and a beautiful flower-shaped daikon radish. The lo mein was soft but not squishy and was so comforting. The Szechuan beef was tender, tasted fresh, and came with the most amazing carrot "noodles". Hubby usually makes faces at vegetables but he loved this. Steamed rice. Properly prepared. Nothing special, but that's okay. THE SERVICE We didn't have a wait to be seated as there was only one other group dining at the time. That made me deeply suspicious that this would be a good experience, but I'm glad I was wrong. Our waitress refilled our water before it was half empty, was not chatty but was polite. THE AMBIANCE Dated. Like from the early 90's. The menu said the place had been open since 1986 or so, so I assume most of the furnishings haven't been replaced. BUT it was clean. Chinese music was playing which I like but it was funny because after a few minutes I started recognizing the songs because of their tune. They were English songs sung in Chinese like Jingle Bells and Camptown Races. There was a sad little fish tank. Hubby and I are huge aquarium enthusiasts so we, of course, are a little discerning where that's concerned but we felt this tank could use some live plants and rocks for it's few resident platy fish. It was clean, but the fish were too few and hiding spots were not available. Poor fish. The lighting was horrible. It was very dark and the lights would go from barely lit, to barely on, and back up to barely lit, over the course of the 45 minutes or so we were there. read more
