The pictures are old they recently been taken over by a new owners a month ago they are an older Chinese couple so sweet! THIS IS BY FAR BETTER THAN WONGS !! Especially with portion sizes for take out dinner for families, WONGS only has their nice seating atmosphere which is nice but sometimes you need fast for busy schedules and are hungry after work. As I walked I there was a pungent smell that off put me, but I powered threw for a review. The server was very nice and helpful, I had ordered a lunch special broccoli beef with that order it came with the meal plus a bit more, Overall, 1.The rice was a bit over done, and the egg roll was soggy. but the main food was good receiving preferably 4 starts the vegetables are more crunchy as not over steamed and the beef was cooked to perfection as a dish goes. 2. I've ordered Dragon Express 2x in the past week. It is some of the best mongolian beef that I have ever had. Fantastic dish.

I was not a fan. Food was mediocre. No ambiance at all. Service wasn't great. Seemed like person at counter didn't want to be there.

I was craving Chinese food so we decided to give this place a try since it's down the street from our house. First off it smelt odd when we walked in to place our order and it was super hot they just had a ton of fans. Any who we ordered chicken teriyaki, orange chicken, and shrimp fried rice. The teriyaki chicken was absolutely disgusting. It was way over cooked and was tough to chew! Also it was nothing but dark meat and didn't even look appetizing. The orange chicken was better but just okay. It was more chewy then anything and you're better off going to Panda Express. Lastly, the shrimp fried rice was also ok. The rice was still hard so you can tell it wasn't cooked throughly. It's so hard to find a good family owned Chinese restaurant but I definitely don't recommend this one. read more

Went to high school in this area but my parents is the only one who ever really ordered here but I think they may have changed. I was in the mood for some Singapore noodles and decided to order here. I was glad as my youngest likes plain lo mein and they had it which was great and hubby got orange chicken. We also got some egg rolls and crab rangoons. The staff at Dargon Garden Expreds were friendly and it seemed to be a very popular spot. On this visit we ordered the wonton soup in sesame chicken we were a little disappointed with our entrée's. The seasoning level was nonexistent, the chicken was overcooked, and there was just to much sauce. Our entrees just weren't very good Maybe I was expecting something more. I really wanted some Chinese food, closer than 67th Ave and Thomas and thought I give this place a try. I spent $27.00 for chicken chop suey, beef fried rice and chicken egg rolls. When I got my food, I noticed that it had a weird smell than what I've ever smelled of Chinese food. So when I got it home, I took it out the bag smelled the food it seems to be OK. And the fried rice, had thin slices of some kind of beef meat and did not look appealing or interesting. It also had carrots and peas in it which I'm not a fan of when it comes to my Chinese rice. Lastly, the rice lacked flavor. The chicken chop Suey was the concern because of the smell I was smelling. It also had thin slices of chicken in it. I'm more familiar with chunks of chicken and diced beef. So for me neither one of these dishes were appealing. The chicken egg rolls were OK, although they tasted like old oil in the inside where the egg roll paper was felt a little undercooked rd. I really wanted to give this place a fair try because it is fairly close to my home, but it is one place that I don't think I would return to. I really want to like this place, because it's one of the few Chinese restaurants which have fish on their menu, and I respect that. Their eggrolls aren't half bad, but every time I've ordered from them their food has been *WAY* too salty. I like the variety of their menu but until I learn that they've decided to drastically cut back on the salt, I won't be ordering from them again. And that's a shame, because out here in the west we only have a few spots to Doordash from. read more

This was our first time at Dragon Garden Express. I wish I could give it a glowing review, but I cannot. We placed a fairly large order Saturday afternoon for pickup on Sunday, so plenty of advance notice. We still had to wait a short time when we arrived at our scheduled pickup time. Not too long, but it should have been ready. Some items were OK, some were disapointing. There wasn't really anything that I can say would make me want to order from here, again. I write this review, not to be nasty, but to let them know why we were not excited about what we received: ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: Their portions are very generous, and they do not skimp on the proteins. THE DOWNSIDE: Many of the dishes just lacked flavor. HOT AND SOUR SOUP (5-stars): Was good. Hubby really liked it. VEGE SPRING ROLLS (2-stars): A bit tough and the stuffing, what there was of it, was rather mushy. The outer layer of the wrap was crispy, but all the other layers tasted raw and tough to bite through. Perhaps a longer time in a less-hot oil might make these easier to bite through. CHICKEN EGG ROLLS(2-stars): Same as the Spring Rolls. In fact, they even tasted the same. FRIED SHRIMP (1-star): Very disappointing. When I opened the container, I could not figure out what it was. It was not butterflied and lightly battered, as normal. Just a whole shrimp that was very, very heavily breaded - almost a quarter of an inch thick all the way around. Way too much breading. MONGOLIAN BEEF (4.5-stars): This had the best flavor out of all that we ordered, and there was a lot of very tender beef. Good flavor...but we asked for extra hot/spicy, and it wasn't even close to being the least bit hot. The green portions of the scallions were overcooked, and therefore tough. We could not chew them. We picked them out, and they all went into the garbage. The scallions should be added after the beef and regular onions are cooked, just before serving, so they will stay crisp and flavorful. KUNG PAO CHICKEN (3.5 to 4 -stars): Almost good but....says spicy on the menu. We asked for extra spicy..we like it almost burn-your-tongue hot. There was barely a hint of spice. Had lots of veges, and the flavor was OK. Usually the peanuts are cooked with the rest of the ingredients, and they usually soak up a good amount of any spices. In this container, it appears they were just all tossed on top after the rest of the ingredients were packaged. WALNUT SHRIMP(0-stars): I considered this a total fail. Honey Walnut Shrimp is usually made with a very thin, light layer of batter, fried, then coated in a mayonnaise sauce. This dish was nothing more than the regular fried shrimp (with the quarter-inch batter), coated with a honey sauce, with a little smear of mayo on the bottom of the carryout container (none coating the shrimp), and a few honey walnuts. Not at all what we've ever been served anywhere else. It came with a lot of broccoli, which I have never seen served with this dish. It is supposed to be "honey walnuts" & shrimp, not "honey shrimp" & walnuts. If you like Honey Walnut Shrimp, this is not the place to order it. Sorry. HOUSE FRIED RICE (2-star): It was so-so...We did ask to have the peas omitted (I have a family member who will not eat anything with peas in it - lol) and they did omit the peas. For that, we thank them greatly for complying with our wishes. Unfortunately, we found the rice to be very bland. Did they add even a little soy sauce as they were cooking it? The shrimp were tender as was the chicken, which was a plus, but the pork was overcooked -- very tough and hard to chew. HOUSE CHOW MEIN/CHOP SUEY (2-stars): First of all, which is it? Couldn't figure that out. Flavor was, as with other items, rather bland. We asked to have it made spicy. No spice at all. Absolutely swimming is sauce. Way too much... All of the dishes with sauce had an overabundance of sauce in the to-go containers, so they all spilled/leaked in the box on the way home. A little is good, but this was way too much. We spent a lot of money so that we could have leftovers for another meal. I have to regretably say that for the very first time, I am not excited about having leftovers, and am seriously considering just tossing them so I don't have to rearrange the refrigerator to accommodate all the styrofoam boxes. read more

Awesome little Chinese restaurant. Came here to celebrate my sisters birthday. The restaurant was small, clean and decently kept for a fast food joint. The loo was pretty decent too. I wouldn't mind doing a two here. The food was definitely one of the best compared to other Chinese American restaurants. Very tasty and full of flavour. They have excellent egg rolls, great Mongolian Beef. Awesome Beef Chow Fun, with a great fire wok flavour. They have okay chicken cream corn soup. We also have their special secret items too like the stir fried green beans and their juicy BBQ pork ribs! Be sure to ask about it, it's legendary. But they might not sell it. The workers were definitely super attentive, friendly, and professional. Excellent job to the guy with the silver hair and the little girl with the gold hair, super elite professionals they are. I always get the BBQ Pork Slices with some rice but I have been known to get the pork fried rice and the whole duck. I also like the vegetable spring rolls as it is the ONLY way I eat vegetables. I would highly recommend just ordering from Wong's just across Indian School. Nothing stood out from the order I had. The Orange chicken was super saucy and to sweet for my liking. The Pork Lo Mein was very oily but had nice pieces of bbq pork. A pal of mine raves about the duck here but I'm just not a duck fan....try the duck, you might like it. This is an Americanized Chinese fast food restaurant that has some tasty food. I've been eating here for years --- like once a week status! I've had nearly everything on the menu and even stuff off the menu. The staff here are friendly and make for great conversation. It's a small local business with no excess frills. The boyfriend and I live nowhere near Avondale but he's been telling me that this place has THE BEST Chinese food. His ultimate favorite is their fried rice. It has that great, smoky, char flavor you can only get when the wok is screaming hot. When you ask them to make it spicy, it's even better! Their fried rice doesn't come with peas and carrots but you can ask them to add it for a small fee. I think it was less than a dollar when I asked them. I also like their lo mein. They are thicker like spaghetti noodles so it has a nice chew! I hate it when you get noodles and they disappear on you like air. I saw they also have some pretty good lunch specials (from $5.25 to $6.25, all day and every day). The bae likes the house chicken because it comes with plain fried rice, a homemade egg roll, and fried wontons. Get that Panda Express and Pei Wei mess away from me. It's a small little restaurant with delicious food. Baby blue paint is on the walls, a redwood counter, and a friendly face to take your order at the register. Don't forget to tip because they really bust their butt to get your order to you while it's hot --- I once saw this guy and this girl mow each other over while balancing a hot bowl of soup! I generally go for Walnut Shrimp but the Orange Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein have been capturing my taste buds. Their egg rolls are pretty good too since they make it in-house! It's better than the crap they serve across the street and the joint in the Savers plaza, not to mention janky Panda Express. So come here for some great eats! I'm honestly an extremely picky eater, my family as well, maybe that's where I get it from? We've been coming here for years, and we've never had a problem. I'm now a junior in college and I had my first plate of Mongolian beef probably at the age of five, lunch special #6 is a must try! Always have been my parent's favorite but I ventured out. I decided to try their shrimp fried rice and pot stickers, seriously the best I ever had. No matter where I go, no place beats Dragon Garden. My sister heard my extreme happiness about our family favorited restaurant, she tried their shrimp chow fun, she too agrees that there's no place like the good ol' Dragon Garden Express. Some other favorites of mine are their twice cooked chicken and walnut shrimp. Their soups are also quite delicious, their chicken cream corn soup with wonton strips are to die for! My cousin is vegetarian so when she goes she gets their ma-pao fried tofu and their vegetable delight, so there are options for vegetarians. Their prices are great compared to all the other places around, super cheap for large portions. I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes, even with large orders of food. Their service is great as well, the owner and his wife are absolutely welcoming, and the waitress is always friendly. As for the setting, if you choose not to take out, the place is roomy and spacious. There is also a table for outside dining as well just in case if you have pets. It's unfortunate I had to move out of the state. Not even going to lie, before I hit the road on my last trip with the move in truck to Cali, my last stop in Arizona was Dragon Garden. Every time I make it back, I definitely make the run for some pot stickers, even California's Chinese can't compare. YES! this place is that good! This place has always been one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants. I've come here as a kid and have come back time and time again as an adult. The staff is always friendly, it's never a long wait for food and it's just one of those places that does it right. Their egg rolls to me are the best. I come here just for the egg rolls. I think the one thing that can be improved is their chicken. I feel with certain dishes that they over cook the chicken and it becomes very difficult to eat. It was a Saturday. I think. I can't be so sure of it these days. I live my life with such reckless abandon that every day might as well be Saturday. But I'm pretty sure this was one of those "real Saturdays" where walking around in my jammies and showing up at people's houses at 10pm with the latest knock-off "mockbuster" on DVD is considered "normal behavior" and not chalked up to "harmless yet nonetheless annoying eccentricity". With the recent price hikes on campus (4.99 for a sandwich that thinks it's a burrito? Have your mental disorder on your own dime, punk!), I've taken to "brown bagging" (which is what I call it even though I carry my lunch in a metal Dr. Pepper lunchbox that also doubles as a purse. I'm eccentric. Didn't you get the memo?) my on-campus meals. Which means I spend my weekends at Fry's looking at the lunch meat aisle going "Hmmm...which of these could I eat every day for two weeks and not forcibly strangle myself with my own vomit?" On my way back to my car, laden with plastic bags full to bursting with failure and sad, I passed by the Dragon Garden Express, glancing at their menu. I initially decided against it, heading back to my car so I could feng shui my refrigerator to accommodate my ASU Meal Plan, when I heard the restaurant calling me. Which is a metaphor for "crazy manager screaming at me from the door". "YOU WANT MENU TO TAKE HOME!?" Nah, I thought. If I took home a menu I'd just sit there, thinking of how much happier I'd have been if I spent my grocery money on an afternoon's worth of sweet and sour pork. "YOU COME IN THEN! GET SOMETHING TO GO!" Maybe the screaming Asian woman related to my lament. Perhaps she thought her cuisine would lift my spirits. Or maybe it was a really slow day. I decided to come inside before anyone got hurt. You know how in the early Mario Bros games, you always played as Mario, although the manuals clearly state that Luigi is faster and can jump higher than the crimson-hued Ron Jeremy? That's how it felt when I walked in. Even though it was the weekend, DGE still offered lunch specials. Most places, Wong's included, exclude weekends from any of their lunch of dinner specials. Which is convenient, of course, because that's when Wong's gets most of its customers. DGE, despite it clearly being Saturday, offered 5 and 6 dollar lunch combos. The atmosphere in DGE is just...happier. I'm not sure how to describe it. When I go to other local Chinese restaurants the mood is so dapper. Like everyone's just waiting for that screenplay to writing to get picked up. Like the whole "serve cuisine of our homeland" game got really old, really fast, but they put all their eggs in one basket and have to wait for them to hatch and become dragons and burn the village or something. But DGE just has this happy, quiet vibe to it. And clean to boot. The place is splotless, with a hint of chow mein goodness. If I ever own a house, that's what I'd want my kitchen looking/smelling like all the time. Initially I was hesitant to try the combos. Because I'm not big on fried rice. That's Panda Express' redeeming quality. It lets me have my lo mein noodles on the side, instead of demanding that I have it as an entree. I figure if you can get a Big Mac with chicken nuggets on the side, I should be able to get mu shu with lo mein on the side. Oh well. I took the plunge anyway. I got the kung pao. They boxed it up in one of those styrofoam take-home boxes with the smiling face. Which I always find a nice touch. All these other places like to decorate their packaging with proclamations of how awesome their product is. This was a thank you note and motivational propaganda all at once. I love the digital age. The kung pao was cruncy and soupy, like a chicken and peanut cereal. It was like eating a salad and occasionally drinking from a cup of hot sauce at the same time. The egg roll was chewy and savory, the rangoons were crispy and cheesy, and the small mound of fried rice was fine also. I was too involved in plowing through my awesome with a side of FUCKYEAH! that I couldn't even be bothered to tell my housemates where I had discovered this little treasure trove of chicken, peanuts, and whatever the hell else they put in kung pao. I just kept showing them my receipt, which I kept just in case I had to add in the business info when I eventually yelped it. The moral of this mindless, meandering story? If you want good, cheap takeout on a weekend, do Dragon Garden Express. Or they will scream at you. read more
