Stopped in today to buy my first pair of docs and the staff was extremely polite, helpful, and were very patient to measure my size and find the right shoes for me. They did everything to make sure I was happy with my purchase. The price is the same as it is on the official doc martens website; pop in instead of ordering online! I love this store for so many reasons. One being because of my most recent visit. I've been dying to order the flower summer sandals which sold out online sooo fast. They come in brown, green, and black. The brown are completely sold out period, and the green and black are also sold out online, but this specific store did have the green and black in stock - and in my size too!! The sandals are seasonal/possibly limited edition(?) shoes - don't quote me on that - but in general they told me there's no way of knowing when they'll be back in stock, if ever. When I was in high school (late 90s), I had a GREAT pair of pink Docs. I don't know what happened to them... I might have lent them to a friend and never gotten them back or something. I'm sad they are no longer in my life, and I recently decided I needed to get another pair. I wanted a simple black pair, but with a chunkier sole. There were 3 staff working, it was right at closing time, and I felt a little pressured/rushed inside my own head because I wandered in at such a late time. However, the person who helped me was incredibly nice, patient, and wanted to be sure we took the time together so that we could choose the right pair. I picked a pair that seemed perfect and they fit like a glove! The clerk who rung me up said they had the exact same pair as their first pair of Doc Martens they ever got and they were still their favorite. I thought they'd be tough to break in... maybe a little uncomfortable at first, but nope! They are awesome. Just a sold pair of boots, not too heavy, and super versatile. This was my first time in a Dr. Martens store and I was excited to learn that they had a few vegan leather options. All the boots are beautiful but the service was horrendous. One employee was dusting all the shelves and she stood on the bench I was sitting at leaving dirty shoe marks right where I was sitting as well as stood on my purse straps. This employee was also scowling at everyone and didn't greet or acknowledge a single customer that walked in including me. The woman that brought me shoes to try on never came back to check on shoe size or fit and after waiting a while I ended up leaving without a purchase. There's a scene in Pretty Woman where Vivian says, "You people work on commission right? Big mistake. Big. Huge." That's what I felt as I left Dr. Martens last Thursday. Two workers, each helping customers, could not be bothered to greet me or offer to help me. Meanwhile, their customers were hemming and hawing and going over pros and cons about shoes and life in general. Meanwhile, if you had watched me, you would know I was in for Chelsea boots. As I walked back and forth and near the workers, my shopping buddy said neither bothered to look up at us. In a small store, I would think you could at least acknowledge your customers. Yes, I could have interrupted the intimate conversations between employee and customer to request something but it seemed intrusive and rude. Instead, my shopping buddy insisted we walk out. Much to my dismay and displeasure as I really wanted to purchase Chelsea boots, we headed out. Only as we ascended the stairs did someone say good bye. read more

I came here during my lunch break one day to find my proper size in Docs. Due to my limited time, I wasn't able to find the right size, so I came back a few weeks later. Since the adult sizes didn't seem to work out on my previous trip, I tried on what I thought was the largest kid size... again, to no avail. I went home and browsed the website, and realized that they did make a larger kids sizes (yes, there is a difference between youth/juniors!). I went back to the store the same day and asked to try on the juniors pair. To my delight, they fit! But... the salespeople explained to me the quality difference between adult/youth sizes, and I was back in the adult's section to find my right size. Gabe introduced the softer 1460s to me, and I loved them immediately! I had to make the tough decision between saving some money with the kids size purchase, or cashing out on the adults. I ended up getting the adults due to the quality of the leather/sole, and I'm very happy with my decision. I wore them for a few days to break in, and then stuffed my left one with a sock overnight because it wasn't stretching as easily as the right. I know I made the right choice, and am thankful that the employees were patient with me as I made my decision. My only complaint is that it took 3 trips to find the right size, but I suppose patience is a virtue :) read more

I bought my second pair of Docs in June of this year. I opened them in the fall to find that the shoes I bought were not leather like the ones I tried on. Now I understand that it is up to me to make sure I purchased what I did, but I was wrong. I made this judgement because of the great service and great shoes I had previously. I am in the area of this store pretty regularly, so I pass by a lot, and I am so impressed with how well they have been rolling with a really hard year. Washed away [pun intended] in the tsunami of other horrors was the fact that the day before everything was shut down last March, this store was closed when a pipe burst and the whole store was flooded. The staff there have been rolling with huge challenges, shutdowns and capacity limits, and extra pressure during the holidays (and after, because returns) and they have still been so courteous the three times I have been there since they were able to reopen. I am always greeted with a smile at the door and then again inside by someone who asks if they can help me. I recently bought a pair of shoes for my partner and they are just perfect. The sales person who helped us knew the stock and was quick and friendly. I don't think we could have found the right ones online so I was glad that we could see them and pick them up. So, that is three out of four family members in Docs, now! Extra shout out to the always extra friendly greeter with the bright orange hair who waves and says hi when I walk by. I am not one to complain or comment on poor service because I understand customer service is difficult and people have bad days but my experience at this location yesterday was absolutely unacceptable. I bought my first pair of Dr Martens online in the beginning of december and I honestly do not know much about these shoes but when they came in they were quite uncomfortable so, I decided to go to this location to see if someone could help me figure out if I need another size or style of shoe. Obviously every store has a capacity and I was with three others so only one was able to go in at that time. I went in first and there were three people, one at the door, one man helping another customer and one young woman doing absolutely nothing. She did not even bother to greet me or make eye contact with me instead, she decided to turn to the woman at the stairs and say "are the people outside not listening" in regard to where they had to stand in which no one was even directed to stand in a certain location. It is very very unprofessional to talk about other customers in front of another. I then proceeded to approach her and told her what I was looking for and she just says "i'll get another size" comes back out and puts them next to me then walks away! Getting her attention to help me and give me information on the shoe was very hard as it appeared she didn't even care to help. I ended up having to wait until the assistant manager was done so he could help me because she made it very clear she had no interest. The assistant manager was very helpful and knowledgeable. This workers attitude was consistent my entire time there and I was very close to walking out of the store because I didn't even want the shoes at that point. So today I called the store just to make a manager aware of the situation and the manager herself was just as rude! She proceeded to use this current global pandemic as an excuse for employees actions however, I am a front line worker in a hospital and so are other members of my family and to use this devastating time as an excuse for poor customer service is seriously pitiful and pathetic and disrespectful to a healthcare worker. She then told me that she was in the midst of training for working with corporate to help run Dr Marten in the country however, if this is who will be doing that, I will be sure to call corporate and let them know that these are the qualities they should not be looking for in management. I will also be advising them to give their employees a lesson on how to talk and treat paying customers ethically. I will not be shopping with Dr Marten again as I don't even want to deal with this behavior. read more

My husband is a beast to fit. He's big. His feet are big. And he's sensitive. Like, really particular about how things fit. He also goes through footwear like nobody's business. And it can't look weird to him. And it has to be well-made. He's sweet and polite and funny and appreciative of everyone who helps him, but not everyone in retail is up for an extended interaction. This store fit him in a pair of winter workboots that he loves and wears and wears and wears and they still look new despite having seen snow and salt. Not only was the staff totally pro at fitting him in something he would like, they were patient and kind and remained attentive with someone who is picky and who overthinks things a bit sometimes. I had been interested in a pair of Dr. Martens boots for a while. I finally went into the location on Newbury Street and was greeted by Olive. I explained that I was interested in a pair but didn't know what exactly I was looking for. (My style is atypical, and I'm exploring options.) Olive was more than willing to spend time helping me determine what I wanted to get me the right pair. Olive enthusiastically brought out a variety of styles and discussed the differences. Olive was so knowledgeable about the shoes, explaining how they were made and of what materials. Olive's energy was amazing; I felt comfortable and in good hands. When I walked in, I was indecisive and unsure about the pair I wanted and how they would fit in with my personality and style. With Olive's help, I bought a pair of boots that fit my style best (we decided to call version 1 "Punk Audrey Hepburn"), and they are absolutely perfect for me. We decided to put in the black ribbon laces tied into a big bow at the top of the shoe to complete the look. I really felt seen by Olive, and I would highly recommend working with Olive if you find yourself at this location and are interested in talking to someone creative, intelligent, and personable. read more

All the staff were super helpful and vibrant, they were able to answer all my questions and helped me try on a few different shoes to see which ones fit best. It was my first time buying a high-quality boot, so I was a bit nervous, however, everyone in the store made it extremely easy and comfortable to find the best pair for me! I really appreciated the time that one of the employees took to help me find the right insoles for my Chelsea boot - I have achey feet so this was very helpful. I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service at this store. My friend and I came in on a quiet Thursday night because I finally wanted to invest in a pair of Dr. Martens. I didn't even know where to begin, and the two sales associates that greeted us were the perfect pair to help us. Not only did they engage in really easy, friendly conversation, but they were incredibly knowledgeable about their product. I was unsure of the sizing on my boots and if they were too big, but by simply walking in them, the associate knew right off the bat that they were perfect? How? She explained that they were trained by a foot doctor to know exactly where a boot should bend to ensure that the sizing was accurate. With Dr. Martens being a bit bulky and of thick leather, it could be hard to do the toe test that we're all used to, so this was comforting to know that the associates were trained otherwise. Overall, a great experience and being knowledgeable about my boots and how to take care of them was more than I could've asked for when leaving the store. read more

When I first visited this store some months ago, I was dressed as trad/rudeboy/trojan skinhead. The staff looked at me like I was from another planet, and even when there was ample opportunity to help me, they preferred to talk to a yuppish looking clientele. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. The prices of the boots were incredibly high... impossible for a working class person like myself to afford. I left the place feeling pretty alienated. Some months later I had a pair of Dr. Martens boots that were the wrong size. I called the store and asked if they would trade them in for the same model but correct size. They said yes, and assured me everything would be fine, but when I arrived the same day they looked at me like I was a space alien again (dressed post-punk in black with a hoodie and all that this time) ... they were making fun of me when I left! It was crazy, and creepy. The store is awful, the boots ridiculously priced. Ex-military friends (even conservative ones) have told me about similar experiences with this store. If you want some combat boots for a good price and without dealing with these awful snobs, get something like Rothco 5092 elsewhere instead. Forget about parking in downtown Boston, it is near impossible. Park at Alewife and take the Red Line and Green Line MBTA subway into the downtown area. It is best to walk around Boston, not drive around it. read more

I came on a busy night, but the sales rep (didn't catch his name - a quite beardy fellow) was super friendly, helpful, and always right there whenever someone needed to try another style/size. I'm also a big fan of the lenient return policy. You can never really tell whether a pair of shoes is going to work until you wear them for a day out and about. I love my Doc Martens. I've been wearing them for over 20 years and I swear by them. Problem is, they are difficult to find. Sure, you can find a random shoe store carrying 2-3 styles, but they always seem to be out of my size and let's face it, the beauty of Dr Martens is the vast number of styles they have, I prefer not to buy online because I like to try them on first. Luckily, I go to Boston regularly and Dr Martens has an entire store here! Whoo hoo! The staff is super friendly and helpful I talked to one of the girls there for almost 30 minutes about the variety of shoes. The sales associate was rude and never made eye contact. We had some specific questions about the style of the boot and how the boot should fit , but she couldn't seemed to be bothered. I was looking for Vegan boots 101 and were sold out in Chicago even online. I was told that there was a pair in Boston! I called them and ordered it quickly. After few days UPS lost my boots!!!! My boyfriend and I were waiting a month for a pair of boots he wanted for Christmas to appear in his size in the online store. They were in the Made in England collection, so I knew they'd be a little slow to produce, but they never appeared in his size. So, for a belated Christmas present, we went together to the actual physical Doc Marten store where they had them readily in stock! It's incredible how weirdly Doc Martens, as a company, is run -- a pair of boots located in a store four miles from a customer appears as "not in stock" on their website, because they don't have it in a warehouse in England. But whatever :) While I was in the store, I had a great conversation with one of the salespeople about our boots (I was wearing my 3-year-old Vintage collection 1490s), how to take care of them, how to repair them, etc. I pointed out that my boots had a crack in the sole, and he said that I could take them to a repair shop that worked with PVC soles, and that they could patch it up, so that was good to learn. I ended up buying two pairs -- one for my boyfriend (the Arthur, Made in England collection) and a new pair for me, while the others were being repaired (Oxblood 1490s, also the Made in England collection) Love them! On sort of a downer note, my boyfriend didn't like the shoelaces with his new boots (they were pretty thin/dressy-looking), and asked if there were a different pair of shoelaces he could wear with them. One of the salesladies picked out a new pack of shoelaces for him, we purchased them, but when we got home, we realized that the shoelace aglets (which were metal) didn't come close to fitting through the shoelace holes in his boots! Big oversight on their part, especially that we're paying $500 for two pairs of shoes, and you'd expect a little attention to detail there, but whatever. Only four stars because of some inconsistencies with the experience, and company as a whole, but you really can't beat these boots. (To the person who complained about them hurting her feet during the first week: Get some duct tape, bandaids, thicker socks, and suck it up. It's part of the experience!) read more
