I took my girlfriend to Perkins yesterday, simply wanting a nice, diner-style breakfast. We by no…read moremeans expected a five-star dining experience. What we didn't expect was below par service, inedible food, and a terrible response from the management team.
First and foremost, we walked in to a packed lobby. We expected there to be a small wait, but when we looked over to the dining room, we saw many (approximately ten to fifteen) empty tables and booths that would certainly seat two people. Instead, the staff had us wait for ten to fifteen minutes so that a party of six could sit first. I understand in the restaurant industry that many things are first come, first serve, but they forced many parties of four, three, two, and even one to wait around so a large top could sit first. It was just poor service from the get-go.
Once we did finally get our table, it took more than ten minutes for our server to come to our table and ask us our drink orders. By then, we were ready to order our food as well. Luckily, our food came out quickly!
We both ordered off the seasonal menu; pumpkin pancakes that were supposed to be "filled" with a cream cheese concoction and topped with a maple bacon. My girlfriend got a side of eggs and bacon with her meal, and I got the hash browns with a cheese topping and bacon. This is where more issues arose.
Her eggs were severely undercooked; so much so that she could pull out the uncooked egg whites. They gave me hash browns with nacho cheese on them; both the potatoes and the cheese were ice cold. My pancakes had one line of cream in them, and I'd describe that as far as possible from being "filled," like the menu advertised they would be. Knowing we were unhappy with our meals, we let our server know about our issues, expecting a small token of a solution. We should have expected that this wouldn't happen, since the service was already far below our expectations.
The server did get the manager to come to our table, and we then told her about everything that was wrong. Her response was, "So you just didn't like anything that was made?" She then offered to remake it, but we figured what's the point? We told her we'd just like the check and to go, and each response after that was incredibly rude. The same general manager, Krisi, then offered us a muffin to take, but when we were about to leave, she was no where to be found.
We got our meal half off, but I still feel as though I paid far too much money for a meal that we could barely even eat. And as I said, we were far from expecting a five-star experience, but to be treated as hungry customers who were providing money to a local business, I think we should have received a better experience from the entire team at Perkins in Wheeling.
