While in Utica getting the truck serviced I consulted my trusty Yelp App looking for a brewery,…read morewhat pops up but Nail Creek Pub and Brewery. We sat at the bar which is typical and had the absolute best experience with Emma, the bartender, who was big as a barn pregnant, but looking very cute. Emma was personable, knowledgeable and very engaging. We really enjoy the conversation, food/beer experience. I had the tacos and hubby had the grilled cheese with a cup of the soup of the day, all was very tasty!! Beer was very yummy! Should you happen upon Utica, NY, stop by Nail Creek Pub and Brewery, it's a great place to take a load off and have a local brew, great service and conversation. Say hey to Emma, unless she is giving birth to her baby.

Any other time, if you are not a regular, this place might not be for you. I've been here several times with mixed experiences. The last time I was there was a Thursday in the summer of 2024. My husband, brother and I were excited to find seats at the bar and order dinner. The bartender was a short blonde woman and there was a male bar back. The bartender did not acknowledge us for over 15 minutes. We were actively looking at the menu on our phones and talking about what we wanted to try and attempted to make eye contact with her as she walked by us with no luck. She didn't even say "I will be right with you", literally no interaction. She was very friendly with everyone else around us seeming to know exactly what they were drinking and happy to get it for them. We left as we felt very unwelcome there and ended up having excellent service down the street at Lukin's.

A LOT OF UNTAPPED POTENTIAL ===========================…read more My husband and I stopped in on Monday, November 18th around 2:00 p.m.. There was hardly anyone inside, yet I had to wait ten minutes to get a table. It went downhill from there. One server for the whole restaurant is a problem. I just ordered a beer and fries. It was cold so my husband just wanted tea. The first cup tasted like coffee that he doesn't like. The second cup was cold. He gave up at that point. Even though it's the only place on the Black River we won't be back.

That said, we really did enjoy the food. It was BOGO beer or pizza. The hubby partook in a beer and we opted to share an appetizer of cheese curds and a fish and chips. I will say I was slightly disappointed with our curds. They were small and most were just empty pieces of batter. The people beside us got a beautifully breaded batch and much more. They tasted good, but still disappointed in the lack of curds (the empty ones). The fish was nice and light and not fishy at all. I really enjoyed the coleslaw and my husband likes the fries. It was just the right amount of crisp without being too much and the perfectly flaky fish. The price wasn't terrible and the lake view is very nice and relaxing.

The food is great -- fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. It's the kind of place you want to like. That said, for the price, the portions feel underwhelming. The smashburger, while tasty, is about the size of a standard McDonald's cheeseburger, and a handful of fries just doesn't cut it at this price point. A bit more generosity on the plate would go a long way in matching the quality of the experience with the value. Still worth a visit -- just don't come too hungry.

I only recall trying poutine when I was younger so I figured I'd give it another try. They have Poutine as a whole order, but I was glad to see that they have it as a side option. The food entries comes with a side of your choice (fries, house salad, sweet potato fries (+$2.99) , caesar salad (+$3.50), or poutine (+$3.50)). The portions of the food were huge, so you definitely get your bang for your buck here. Each dish was neatly placed and was so good! The bread from the club was crunchy yet soft and the chicken was moist. The ingredient felt very fresh! The poutine was a tad salty, but I think that is how poutine is? Since it's gravy and cheese (two salty ingredients). It was just the perfect amount to share with the family since we all just wanted a little bit to refresh our taste buds. My family also ordered the Chipotle Chicken Caesar Wrap with the house salad ($19.99); Fish and Chips ($19.99), and Grilled Chicken Club with the house salad ($19.99). The chipotle chicken caesar wrap was HUGE. My mom said it was very good and that it wasn't too overpowered with all the flavors and sauces. I was able to try a bite of her house salad and was also impressed by the fresh ingredients of the salad. You can tell it is a good salad when the salt actually crunches and does not just wilt there. The Fish and Chips were pretty good according to my brother in law. Crispy, not totally too greasy and a large piece on top. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here in this small town. It had a cosy interior with very nice staff. FYI, the menu is located solely online! Reception could be a little spotty, so they have wifi for you in case you need it! The bar is average, serving many of the popular cocktails and local beers. It has a chill atmosphere inside. There's pool tables and a jukebox so the crowd controls the jams! The bartender was super friendly and talked to everyone without being rude, considering most of my friends and I that went were already on a good level! Side note: don't let your friend order you a trash can when you've already had a few shots and beer, mixing always gets crazy! #Cheers #Yolo #ItsLit It gets really cold here, around -20 degrees Fahrenheit when I was there from February to April. That's where bars come in handy, alcohol always warms up ya system and people start dancing in there, you kinda forget you're in New York! Fun place to visit if you're in the area, especially for those that are unfortunate enough to be stationed at Fort Drum! I'm one of the many survivors of that icy hell.
