This is an honest review of the new era. The direction by the new owners is horrible. As a longtime…read moresupporter for 20+ years and now on our 3rd team we are about to call it quits on the ballpark. 1. The ticket prices are way too high for the market you are located in for a family of three it is $40 to just walk in the door. The service fees of being cashless is killing the goers as well. 2. This year (year 2) you got rid of all of the things that made paying the $40 worth it. There is no pizza, so we stopped paying for food because our kid does not want the hotdogs. They are always overcooked, the burgers are 10x worse than last year, and just the prices again. $4 bucks for a black hotdog is crazy. 3. There is no thirsty Thursdays with beer specials. Yes, you have $2 PBR on Tuesday, but no one wants to drink on a Tuesday and honestly not PBR. They used to have Busch light or Natty light. Even just doing 2 bucks off would be better than what they are currently doing. Also, getting rid of Draft was the DUMBEST thing they could have done for ball lovers. We used to go to 3-4 games a week we are down to maybe 2-3 a month and that is even becoming a stretch. To have less than 150 in seats filled on a Friday night game is shameful to the legend of the park and to Kinston. Management needs to do better and fast. There were 3x the people at the WoodDucks last season nightly then currently. The direction now will have the Bird Dawgs headed to the pound for a new home soon.

Guest rooms occupy the 2nd & 3rd floors and appear to have been administrative offices in a prior life. My party spent an hour in the lobby and balcony taking the space in; the gold leaf ceiling, the 8 ton vault door, original artwork and the re-purposed teller windows come sitting area. No expense seems to have been spared; over sized showers, floor to ceiling silk curtains, Egyptian cotton, unique and artful antiques, original artwork and art objects abound, yet the space is not over-designed or cluttered. It is serene and peaceful, as was our stay. The O'Neil is an exceptional B&B and I would return again and again. Andy the manager is genuine and welcoming. Complimentary beer (from the local brewery Mother Earth) and water are tucked away in the 1910 refrigerator inside the bank vault, as is Kerig coffee. The space is zoned residential, so The O'Neil does not sell or serve meals/drinks, but plenty of local cafe's within walking distance were a perfect fix. Chef and the Farmer is a 20 second walk across and down the block, as is Mother Earth Brewery, The Boiler Room, and other local attractions. A coffee house was completing its renovation as our trip came to a close. Even if you are drawn to Kinston by A Chef's Life, don't miss the local art scene. Make sure to head up to The Kinston Community Council for the Arts and talk with Rose Clark, a long time Kinston resident and local artist who now teaches welding at the center and has worked with Vivian Howard at C&TF and is responsible for the new but period styled wrought iron railing at The O'Neil. She and her husband are also in the middle of renovating a 4,000 sq. ft. home she picked up for a cool $25,000. We were tickled pink in Kinston, and The O'Neil was the cherry on the cake. Hope you are too.

On April 11th we checked into The O'Neal. We were expecting a boutique hotel experience. While our…read moreroom was nice our experience was very different. We left the hotel at 6:30 for dinner. When we came back the door was locked. No one answered the doorbell. We called for assistance and were told to enter our room code. Three times that didn't work and neither did the other code we were given. We were told to drive to a sister hotel but our car keys were in the room. We were told someone would be there in 15 minutes. My husband tried entering the last 3 digits of our code and the door opened. We went to our room and packed. As we were leaving a woman opened the outside door explaining that the code worked and that we were being charged for the night. Never once did she apologize. The following Monday I called and asked for the owner's name and contact information. I emailed him about the experience and as of today I haven't heard from him. Very disappointing experience both Amanda Everett, the manager, and Stephen Hill, the owner do not know how to handle customer situations. We also were told that the hotel had problems with the door not opening. Had my husband not figured out how to open the door with only 3 digits we would have been standing on the sidewalk, on a Friday night for 45 minutes.
