The staff at DDL are truly wonderful and care so much for my dog, who has been coming for daycare, boarding and grooming for over 3 years. Anneke, Anne, and Allison are all so wonderful. Sabrina is a star, she is smart, attentive, and quick to respond. They all go out of their way to care for my pup, and I feel like they care for him like their own. This company is amazing! The staff and management love what they do and it's easy to see this based on how much thought and care they put into making our dog's life awesome! We have a 2 year old Vizsla (Ruby) that loves to play and has a ton of energy - she loves going to daycare at DDL (she comes home nice and tired! Name a dog owner that doesn't love this - I'll wait!). Michael, Shay, and the entire team do everything in their power to go above and beyond with the services they provide. The facilities are always clean and the staff are really friendly. We couldn't ask for a better environment for our dog to be in. Not a safe place for dogs. They are understaffed to the point their dog parks aren't even watched by anyone and therefore dogs are fighting and mounting each other with nobody to stop them. Poop gets piled up and not cleaned up in time and watched a dog eat some on camera...GROSS! They put 100 dogs in the outside dog park and have two staff members watching them. Seattle requires 1 person to every 15 dogs, clearly failing that. Don't blame the employees, blame the owner. Look at reviews on employment sites, she sounds horrible and management seems to be equally awful. Would never put my dog here. read more

An utter pretentious scam - run if you can. I honestly don't even know where to start with this business. We moved here from out of state with a sweet, lovey 5-year-old Golden Retriever last year, saw the good reviews and wanted to get him set up for daycare and boarding, which he's been doing since he was a wee puppers. They required a pre-evaluation, which is par for the course. Typically an evaluation is 10 min - 1 hour with the dog to make sure he's not aggressive, knows basic commands, etc. But not at Downtown Dog Lounge! We were informed that we had to pay for a full day "evaluation" and there was an 8-week waiting list. WTAF? Ridiculous, but we waited our 8 weeks and did it anyways. He passed with flying colors of course. A few weeks later when I went to book him for boarding, we were were told he would need to pay for ANOTHER day of evaluation, because evidently the first full day of evaluation wasn't good enough, I guess? Insanity. It soon became apparent that all these "evaluation days" were just a way for them to rack up more daycare fees. Unfortunately this was an emergency trip so we didn't have time for yet another "evaluation" day. After pleading with multiple managers I had to get on the phone and grovel in complete humiliation to the owner and beg him to grant an exemption to their "policy" - which is the one and only God they pray to. Reluctantly, he acquiesced. Our dog was fine at the boarding - flying colors again. A few months later I went to book our dog for another boarding and was told.....(wait for it).....that because we hadn't been in for a while, we needed ANOTHER EVALUATION! For the dog they had ALREADY EVALUATED and boarded! And of course it would be another 10-week wait! At this point I thought I was on an episode of Punk'd. I was actually looking around for Ashton Kutcher to jump out at me. The pretentiousness of this place is simply off the charts. I'm not trying to get my kid into Harvard Law for Christ's sake, I'm just trying to get a supervised place for my him to run around and poop for a few hours. Christ on crutches, the attitude on these people. Once again, I swallowed my distaste for this pretentious scam factory and groveled, explaining the jam I was in for a short-notice trip. I begged. I pleaded. They didn't care. Finally, I stopped groveling, let loose and let them have it - something I should have done a long time ago. Nothing pisses me off more than having to grovel to pretentious hispters over ridiculous "policy" that is just an excuse for racking up fees. Nothing. In almost 6 years, we've NEVER encountered a dog care facility like this - not in 3 different cities or while traveling. Since then, we've since found multiple, local daycare centers that do simple, short evaluations without an 8-10 week wait. No pretentiousness. No hipster BS. No attitude. If you care about your pup, do not use they're grooming services! Today was the second time we have used DDL-Ballard's grooming services and it was a very poor experience. Each time we have been told our pup would not allow them to do something (nail trim, towel dry) and we know this is not the case. Today we received our pup completely wet after a bath and they claim she wouldn't let them dry her off. We have taken our pup to other locations and also performed these services ourselves with our pup and have never experienced or received any negative activity from our pup. Other places state that she did great and let them do everything we asked without any issue. Both times we have picked our pup up from DDL-Ballard, she is extremely anxious and they don't seem to have any time or care for her or us. It almost seems that since we are just doing a basic wash and dry with 1-2 additional services, we are not important to them or their bottom line. They have fully lost our patronage moving forward. read more

It was my dog's second time at DDL. Because of this I was hyper aware of the webcam stream. This isn't something I would typically do, as I am specifically sending my dog to daycare so that I can be focused on work, however IT'S A GOOD THING I WAS WATCHING because this is what I witnessed - Buffy arrives at 12:15 - Buffy plays for approximately 20 minutes - Buffy is put into a crate. This is where the first issue arises. I understand dogs may be cycled in and out of crates as needed, per the DDL guidelines. However my dog has been there for 20 minutes. She will only be there for 3 hours. Is it necessary to crate her already?  -Buffy was then in a crate for approximately FOURTY FIVE MINUTES. I waited 45 minutes before calling to say something, at which time she was finally let out of the crate. The supervisor on the phone informed me that 45 minutes was, in fact, longer than dogs should be "cycled". So it seems to me that if I had not been hyper-aware and watching, Buffy could have spent well over an hour of the 3 hours I was paying for daycare in a crate. -Additionally, when I asked the reasoning behind crating her at that time, he stated it was because she was not fixed and that unfixed dogs needed to be cycled in and out more frequently. This is the first time this was ever communicated to me. When I made my original reservation for Buffy's evaluation the issue of her spay was discussed. She is just under 8 months and getting spayed next week, because I was unable to schedule anything earlier due to COVID. I explained this in detail via email and that I would still like her to get acclimated until she hits the 8 month mark. It was at no time communicated to me that because she was in-tact, she would be spending more time in a crate. If I had known this, there is absolutely no logical reason why I would be sending her to half-day day care with the understanding that she would be in and out of a crate with more frequency. The supervisor I spoke with agreed. I received an email from the owner yesterday trying to blame me for not reading the guidelines thoroughly (I did, the extra breaks for unfixed dogs is not listed), and did nothing to acknowledge the unacceptable duration of time that she was crated. I will not be bringing Buffy back to Downtown Dog Lounge. I have zero trust in this place's ability or desire to care for my dog. read more

We have been clients of Downtown Dog Lounge for over 5 years and have generally been happy with our experience. Recently, however, our 2 dogs have been treated poorly at daycare and not given an equitable experience. In a day of daycare, our dogs did not get the opportunity to play outside and the older dog was crated inside with our younger dog barking incessantly to have her older sister come out. This is inexcusable. If you are over-subscribed, please let us know and we will keep the dogs home and entertain them outside ourselves. read more

They no longer have grooming services. They hardly ever answer their phone. You need to book daycare at least 2 weeks in advance. There are cameras that allow you to watch your dog when at day care and there are employees who are supposed to watch over your dog - I don't think that's very consistent. My dog got hurt there and I understand that things like this could happen but I just wanted to know what had happened so I could let the vet know but they seemed oblivious about it. I will say that they are clean. Unfortunately, I haven't found a better place in Ballard so I continue taking my dog there. Would love a recommendation if anybody has any. read more

I would not recommend for grooming services (I've never used other services here). Two out of the three times that my dog has gotten groomed here she has gotten an ear infection, which never happened at our prior groomer that unfortunately closed due to covid. This last grooming, I picked her up and she was not fully dry. When i emailed them my concerns that maybe the staff weren't trained properly I got no reply. This place is amazing. We utilized their boarding services for when we needed something on short notice (about 5 days out). They took the time to assess our two dogs in a daycare session. They wrote detailed report cards and gave us feedback on things we could do to improve (especially our rascal puppy). We were able to check in on the webcams throughout the day and see they were letting our dogs run around in the outdoor play space for nearly the entire day, cleaned up poop/pee right away, had headsets to talk to each other, mediated dog play sessions, and adjusted furniture/toys throughout the day to keep the dogs entertained. The workers would also just love on/pet the dogs every once in a while if they were just sitting there. It was really cool to see. When we used them the next week for boarding the dogs were SO excited to jump out of the car and go back when we pulled up. That was a good sign in my book. They immediately recognized our two dogs and took them back and when we picked them up at the end of the boarding the dogs were so content and wiped out. Was worth every penny and then some. A great deal for boarding for all they did. Can't wait to use them again in August! Our dogs will love it. read more

Have had really poor dog grooming experiences here. Our dog is seemingly traumatized when we pick her up. The first time we took her we recently rescued her so chalked it up to that. The second time, months later, was even worse. She was amped up and had horrible anxiety when I got her (despite only leaving her for 1 hour) and she was soaked when I got her. They told me she "fought them toweling her off"?! If you can't properly towel dry a dog, grooming probably isn't a service you should offer. Staff seem extremely inexperienced. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. Last month was the first time I left my dog in their boarding care (2x - a week each time). I want to start out by saying the staff there are very very nice people. But the new manager could not defend his side of an argument. Let me explain... The first time my dog came home with two eye infections, diarrhea & patches of fur missing. I did not make a huge deal about any of those b/c that is a hazard of boarding your dog with foreign dogs, it's possibly not preventable. THE SECOND TIME I requested if my dog could possibly be watched for rough-housing b/c he came home a little beat up the first time. This time he came home with a full BITE mark on his face which they tried-and failed to pawn off as a RASH. I only was aware of it after I picked up my dog and felt/saw it for myself. It is a spot thats covered with thick fur so it is hard to see. I completely understand not being aware of it but they make a promise to tell you about incidents while you're away. When I called to discuss-they brought up the record of an incident and told me that someone should have notified me but didn't. I was told by a staffer to submit my invoice for his vet bill in the case of reimbursement. I cleaned up the BITE as much as I could until the end of the week b/c one puncture wounds looked infected, he also had bloody stool once again so I took him to the vet. The vet treated the bowls & I was told I did a good job cleaning up the wound so she treated him for bowls only so to not off set any medication if she were to treat the bite & made a note of the wound incase it gets worse to bring him back in to treat that secondly. THE NEW MANAGER CALLS ME.... He allows me to explain the situation then tells me once again its a rash...I told him the vet clearly stated it was a bite. He says he cant reimburse me because the medications are for the bowel. I didn't want my money back for the vet I wanted my money back for the ill care my dog received. I am not spending money for care just to turn around and spend more money for a vet. He took no accountability for what happend & then proceeded to tell me he has to defend his staff (which is understandable) but he said he just started at this location (sounds he wasn't even there yet)... All im saying is the girls that work there are great-idk who this new manager is but as a manager you cannot allow dogs to be injured under your watch & not take accountability. We will never board with this facility again & I will not advise anyone else to. read more

DDL in Ballard is the only place I trust for my dog. The friendly and knowledgeable staff take such good care of him! If there's ever a single issue, no matter how small, they always call me right away. My dog runs to the door when we say daycare and can't get in the car fast enough!! He absolutely loves it there. They have an beautiful safe play area. There is always handlers watching the dogs plus webcams so you can look in an see how they are doing. As a crazy dog mom I 100% recommend DDL Ballard! read more

We sent our dog to a New Pet Evaluation on October 20th, 2021 to set him up for boarding and/or day care services. We are members at the Dog Yard and have heard wonderful things about DDL. Unfortunately, our experience was less than stellar. Knowing we needed Bordetella vaccines every 6 months to send our dog to DDL, we had the vet give him one before hand on September 16th, 2021 and uploaded his records to his profile the same day. On the day of the evaluation, our dog got sent home with a Bordetella vaccine, and my partner who picked him up didn't notice the paperwork. I got an email with the invoice and that's when I noticed that night that our dog got a Bordetella vaccine. I immediately emailed them letting them know their mistake since we uploaded proof of his vaccinations, asking if our dog is safe getting 2 Bordetella vaccines a month apart, and asking for a refund. I did not hear back from them the next day, even though they are usually very quick to respond! I also tried calling them twice, and no one ever picked up. Luckily, we were able to get in contact with our vet faster than hearing from them, and the vet reassured us our puppy would be ok. It would be nice to hear back from DDL themselves who gave our dog a vaccine without our consent. My partner says during the check-in process at no point did they ask him if they could give our dog a Bordetella vaccine, otherwise he would have told them that our dog already has it. Eventually, I called the store number on their answering machine and finally someone picked up there. This is what is leading me to write this review now. Their customer service was very disappointing. After going through the entire story to the supervisor about what I already wrote over email, all he could offer was a half-thought up apology, told us our dog will be ok (which we already knew), and finally offered us the refund for an unnecessary vaccine we never approved of and did not need. When I asked why no one got back to me for days until I had to call the store number, he said that they were "very busy this weekend." When I asked why no one saw the vaccination record uploaded into our dog's account since I uploaded it a full month before his visit, he said we have to alert them when we do that because no one actually looks at them in the portal. What is the point of letting owners uploaded vaccination records to the portal then if no one will look at them? I wish I asked him why they are giving dogs vaccinations without owner's permission or consent and freely charging the credit card on file. You would think they would ask at check-in if they think my dog does not have a certain vaccine, or at the very least a phone call would be warranted. Of course, nothing was offered for our troubles or worries the past few days, and it was clear they had no remorse for making us worry about our dog. If you love your dog, think twice before sending them here! They are careless and unsympathetic. read more

I've been getting my dog's nails trimmed by Shay Diamond for the last 2 years. When we started going there, my dog was HORRIBLE. Shay said she was one of the hardest dogs she's ever worked on, but Shay got it done. In the past 2 years, my dog has been getting better and better at staying calm, and always comes out with the shortest nails possible to hold her over until the next time we can make it in. Everyone is always super friendly and the pride bandana my pup came out with today was ADORABLE! I'll definitely keep going to DDL for nail trims for as long as I have a dog :) read more

We have had our dog here for daycare numerous times with nothing but great experiences. We boarded him for the first time ever over the holidays, which I was nervous about (I'm such a sap!). We chose the Ballard location because of their nice outdoor space. It went so well and he was really happy! The online booking was easy, they sent us pics periodically (even one with Santa- awww!), and they tagged him as a first-timer so he'd get extra cuddles and pets from the staff. I loved that we could check in on him via the webcams- that was so reassuring! They bathed him beautifully before we picked him up, and he was a very happy boy. I brought my dog into Downtown Dog Lounge about a month ago straying from my usual doggy daycare (City Dog) and what happened? My dog Bradley (golden retriever) came back with not only bite marks all over him but also an allergic reaction that was caused by the visit. I contacted the staff and spoke to a manager named Jay and he denied that anything ever happened while my dog was in their facility basically telling me that I was wrong and was extremely condescending towards me, I was appalled. To be treated with such disrespect as someone who has worked in customer service for 10 years this encounter was extremely upsetting. When Bradley came home his nose was extremely puffy and clearly irritated. The next day I woke up to pools of vomit and diarrhea and immediately rushed him to the emergency veterinarian to have him taken care of. Thank god I took care of it when I did because the vet told me that if the conditions get worse it could lead to death!! My close friends' daughter worked at Downtown Dog Lounge right after COVID was phasing out and said that she was overwhelmed by the number of dogfights that would break out every day and due to severe understaffing, it became so chaotic that she would have to call the few employees that were not scheduled to work to come in in help. I have done some lurking and I have realized that Downtown Dog Lounge has been deleting reviews made by former employees that have made complaints which is absurd and should be ILEGAL! People have the right to know about problems with corporations and the people should not be silenced! I have also heard that employees are currently unionizing and I think that it is definitely needed in the corrupt corporate environment that is Downtown Dog Lounge. All and all I will be much happier and relieved knowing that my dog is safe at a company that will at the least let me know if something happened to my dog instead of trying to deny it. My Corgi has gone to the Lounge since he was 12 weeks old. He LOVES it there. He has tons of energy and is a rather anxious pup. The Lounge has enabled him to grow his confidence and learn to communicate with other dogs in all types of settings. We drop him off before work and when we pick him up he's totally spent. After a 12 hour work day I'm so grateful to not have to deal with a spastic high energy dog wanted all my attention. The staff are fantastic, they really care about the dogs in their care. I've been taking my pooch to DDL for his entire 2.5 years and he truly loves the place. He's a relatively chill dog and typically likes people more than dogs but I actually see him playing and romping around when he's here which means he's comfortable and feels safe. The staff are some of the kindest people ever and clearly LOVE dogs. I even received an adorable little report card telling me how adored my dog is there, unexpected and delightful. I was a little bummed about the move to Ballard only because I live about a minute from Elliott but it's not a ton further (just over the bridge and down Leary behind Giddy Up) and it really is a nice space with a giant outdoor area the dogs seem to love. There are web cams everywhere so it's super easy to find your happy pup. read more

First off, I am generally not the sort of person to go out of my way to write a negative review. However, as a caring pet owner I'm sharing my experience with Downtown Dog Lounge so other perspective dog owners are informed. In fairness, I'll list the good and bad. For background, my husband and I welcomed our Bernese mountain puppy in our lives over the summer. Both of us work. I commute to the Eastside and my husband works 50% from home and 50% out of state. We wanted to take our BMD puppy to a place where she could get socialization and play time while we're at work. With that we really wanted to like DDL. The Good: 1. The Ballard location is convenient. It's close to home and not a huge detour in my commute to work. The normal business hours are also convenient for those days when you are in a pinch and need to stay in the office later. 2. We liked that there's an outdoor play area for daily exercise. 3. Several of the staff seem really sweet. We've gotten some handwritten notes from staff that where a pleasure to received. 4. When checking on our dog in their dog cams we have seen her on several occasions thoroughly enjoy herself playing with other dogs. The Bad: 1. This establishment is expensive; approximately $50/day. After your dog reaches the age of 6 months, you're no longer allowed to brunch lunch for your puppy. Rather, meals, training, baths are all extra charges. This alone wouldn't bother me as much. However, we feel like we get nicked and dimed and repeatedly pressured to use their dog training services, for our puppy's supposed "issues with recall". 2. This leads me to point number 2. The Ballard location is completely over capacity. With want seems like 40-50 dogs per handler, of course our puppy is going to struggle with recall. Our concern with over capacity is the source of our other grievances. 3. At the end of the day when I've picked up our puppy, she has smelled strongly of urine. When I mentioned this to their staff their resolution is to spray her with a perfume to mask the scent. 4. When checking on our dog on their dog cams we've seen her in a kennel. When asking about this they have said that dogs need breaks on occasion. Again, I feel like this is only necessary because the facility is over capacity. 5. During our puppy's last stay at DDL my husband watched on the dog cam several dogs repeatedly dry hump our puppy without any of the handlers taking the time to break this apart. It was this final incident that sent me over the edge. But I have 1 last point. 6. After our dog's last day with DDL our puppy has contracted kennel cough, despite having all of her shots. We've now paid hundreds of dollars in a vet bill. read more

She is consistent with their grooms, and takes great care of our two shih tzus. We are always happy with how our pups look. The pups have always been safe and treated well. DDL is the best place in the world for great dog love and environment. My dog M has been coming for about 6 years, nearly daily. Their new Ballard location was a tad inconvenient for me, but they worked around that. The best thing is the outdoor yard. M comes home wiped out every day and the happiest I have seen her. I cannot even count the reasons why I would 100% recommend DDL. First is that DDL took the best care of my beloved Italian Greyhound, Boca. I never worried when he was at DDL and knew he was being loved. Second, and most recent, was when my dog, Buddy, escaped collar and leash on our way to DDL and ran across Leary at rush hour.
