He told me the $2000 or so dollar quote was unnecessary so I have send all of our cars to DAC. I appreciate the honesty and superb value provided. The work is great and I don't have to try to figure out if I am being ripped off. I am just bummed I did not start coming here sooner. I highly recommend this place. I had overheated engine (due to my local mechanic's mistake opened cap for water) I was up in the apple farm with my son and had no idea what to do. We were panicking. I drove the car down to this place. Mr. Dave was so kind and helpful. (explained what went wrong) and fixed it right away. It's so hard to find honest people like him these days. I am a woman who is dependent on a mechanic to tell me the truth. I felt something was wrong with my car and I went to Felix Auto to see what was wrong. Dave and his staff are a God send. My wife and I were traveling back to Arizona and right before we were about to get on the i10, we heard a noise on the front driver side wheel. We saw Downtown Auto Care and decided to stop in to see what it was. Dave looked at it and said our plate behind the caliper was rubbing against the rotor. In 30 minutes, he adjusted the plate properly, checked the other 3 tires, then we were back on the road home to Arizona. I can't thank Dave and his staff enough for what they did for us as we were worried it was a major problem and we wouldn't make it back home. Highly impressed with the service! Just a heads up: Pay with cash or check. Do not pay with a card. The 3.5-4% card fee can be quite expensive. For me, it was about $24, which was quite distressing since I'm trying to raise a child on a part-time salary. But the owner was so kind and graciously reimbursed my fee out of his own pocket. So please consider using cash or check for ALL small businesses, since card companies prey on these businesses with their substantial fees. And why incur a fee when you could just take a minute to write a check for free? On another note: A+ service. They were able to take my car same-day, unlike three other auto shops that I had previously called. I have been going to Dave for many years to take care of my vehicles. He has kept my Chevy HHR running well for 198k miles! The first time I went to Dave I was stressed. I didn't know him, no references but something led me there. He was busy. I needed my car to be fixed by Friday, or I would miss out on selling my jewelry at an event. He said, "he would see what he could do". I thought well if it gets done it gets done. Knowing that many other places had disappointed me before with coming in on time with repairs. Dave called me later that same day. He told me he knew how important it was for me to make it to my show so I could work. He would see me first thing Friday morning! Then he told me how much it was going to be ... it was less than I was expecting. So double good! Dave calls me Thursday afternoon and tells me my car is ready... then he tells me the bill is less then the cost I was quoted! Less people... it's not a mistake what you just read. Now it wasn't hundreds less, it wasn't a giant repair... more like a couple hundred dollar repair that is gonna keep you from driving your car repair. The point is this. The experience I just told you about is similar to the one I have every time I go to his shop. I never worry that he is going to take advantage of me financially. I don't worry that he is going to add on repairs just because he knows... the only thing I can tell him sometimes is, "she just isn't happy... there's a weird noise". I know he will do his best to get my car for me as quickly as he can because he knows those are my only wheels. He will also be honest with me that I need additional things done as soon as I can afford them if I can't get it done now. I appreciate how he has worked with me so much. I had a couple of the same bad experiences mentioned by other customers. I thought I'd found an honest, friendly mechanic for myself and several elder friends who got hosed by 3 other Beaumont shops. Not sure what caused Dave to be pissed off at me, but his remarks were brutal and unprofessional. Part replaced and when acted up again 2 months later, Dave blew me off. No warranty on parts? Work? I guess Dave can afford to lose customers. Note: I did however like his young mechanic who was friendly, polite and knew his stuff. I won't be going back to Downtown Auto Repair. FOLLOW-UP COINCIDENCE: same day I wrote this first review I'm having oil changed at NOT Downtown Auto Repair where a woman customer asked me if I've ever been to Downtown AR. I tell her my nightmare experience there and she commences to tell me she was just there and Dave was so rude to her, she left. Had my truck worked on several occasions. A/C fan no problem, Exhaust leak no problem. Knock sensor HUGE PROBLEM.. Tried and replaced 2 times, after that no more help, basically didn't want or even allude to taking the next step.. Did not want to give me my warrenty on my waterpump that he installed that failed prematurely until i showed him my reciept. Tried to say it was 21000 miles or 2 year warrenty when reciept said 24000 miles or 2 year warrenty. My car was under 2 years bur over 21000 so he was trying to play a smooth one on me. When I got my car back my harmonic balancer was damaged and it was making a weired sound that it didnt when i took it in. Saw on you tube you have to take that part out to get to the water pump. I had to change that out myself along with the idler pully and tensioner that got messed up along with it. I would never go back to him he is always grouchy and doesnt care about his customers at all.!! read more
