The interior is also really fancy and clean -- they offer you a drink when you check in and offer to hang up your coat. A women's haircut comes with shampoo and blow dry. Did a great job with me and my 8 year old daughter. They made a valiant attempt at removing blue dye from her blond hair, which worked better than I expected it to. The price for two hair cuts and a bunch of dye removal attempts was quite reasonable and the quality of service was excellent. read more

Jess Black at Downstreet Salon is a hair genius. She's been doing my color for Jess 15 years, and now she does both my cut and color, which is wonderful because she sculpts the cut to match the colors. She is gifted at highlighting so they grow out looking natural, and she's a dab hand at the bright pink I like to have peeking out from beneath the blond. read more

I have to say right of the bat, this salon IS pricey, but worth every cent to me. I have coarse, dry, curly, and hard to manage hair and have been to several salons that couldn't cut it let alone blow dry it properly. when I came to Caroline 5 years ago my hair was so damaged, but soon after my hair became healthier and healthier. I returned yesterday for a cut, highlight and the results are the best yet. She has been instrumental on advising me how to care for my hair without having to buy the most expensive products. Caroline also makes me feel beautiful and special and I always know she's got my hair covered. This salon is also great with children. Caroline cuts my children's hair and is always kind and caring with her cuts. My kids LOVE her. The staff is always professional and friendly. I can't say enough positive things about them. Again, yes, it's pricey, but between the beautiful facility, professional staff, and talented and friend stylists/assistants it's well worth it. read more

My 5 1/2 year old son is autistic and haircuts are always a challenge. We heard that Kiersten at Down Street Salon specializes in haircuts for neurodivergent kids and schedule an appointment. She was wonderful with our son!! She offered to come to our house but we decided to go to the salon instead. Kiersten set up a mini outdoor salon both because the outdoors is soothing to our boy and so that he could express himself however he needed to. Her entire focus was on making it a non-traumatic experience. Since the buzzing of the razor upsets him (like many neurodivergent people), she did what I was never brave enough to do and used scissors. He was still not into getting a haircut but he was much less upset than during previous haircuts, and he got noticeably less upset as the session went on. He now has the best and most even haircut he's had in years! We will definitely schedule him with Kiersten again! Thank you, Kiersten! read more

A TOTAL RIP OFF SALON for the location and cheap quality products. Been here 3 times for the same thing and each time the price doubles. This is after I specify what I need and ask for prices when I make the appointment. But when you are quoted $100 for cut and color and come out paying $250 that's where the buck stops. Never again. I have no idea what the person who gave Downstreet is talking about. I have been going to Downstreet for about 8 years or more. My stylist is Caroline. I get my hair cut short, colored, highlighted and low lighted. The work is so outstanding is get compliments from people all over the country. Kevin, who is the owner of the salon has his people highly trained and extremely good at what they do. They are all Bumble and Bumble trained in NYC or Chicago. Uber friendly and professional. Considering the quality of hair care their prices are high average. Several people who have come up to me to compliment my hair are now clients. I have gone to a few places in the area that "pamper" you, but do a really bad job. Downstreet is hip, clean, friendly, professional and extremely Competent. read more

I've been going to this salon for 5 years to see Heather and I won't go anywhere else. She is the best at doing color (from very light to very dark, sombre and balayage) and has given me many different cuts from bangs to layers, long and short. Her greatest skill is her ability to mix what cut and color you want with your natural texture and color so the results fit you best and is easy to maintain. She is also always on trend and knows the most up to date techniques. A few months ago Heather did hair and makeup for my wedding for myself and 3 bridesmaids. She absolutely exceeded our expectations!! I'm very picky and everything turned out perfectly- we didn't need to touch up our hair or makeup at all from early morning to late at night. Don't go here unless you want to get bent over, and your head spinning from the cost. I went to have my hair lightened and cut for summer. I was talked into highlights instead, which is fine. Somehow, the cost came to $250 for a cut and highlights! The assistant washed and styled my hair, my stylist was too busy with other clients to even style my hair. I was never even offered a drink, but did drink some stiff drinks when I got home after being bent over. read more

Went here for the first time yesterday and walked out SO happy with my balayage and cut! I've been to several other high end salons (and spent a lot of money) only to walk out disappointed. But Down Street was just the opposite. They are welcoming and professional from booking the appointment all the way to checking out. Amber took my vision and executed it perfectly. She is obviously very good at what she does, while also listening closely to my ideas and giving her own professional advice. Also worth mentioning that every other client there (and there were a lot) walked out with beautiful cuts/colors. My sister also got her wedding makeup done here in October and it looked amazinggg. As for prices, I think they're on par with any other high end professional salon. And like I said, I've paid more for less before at other salons. This really is good value for your money! This review is for Sarah. Sarah is the best. I've had my hair done in many, many places including most of the high end salons in Philadelphia, some in NYC, and other various places but Sarah is the best. Who knew my hair savior would be hiding in little ole Hershey?! She does awesome ombrés and haircuts, and probably everything else. She is the only one I trust to do my hair. I'll tell her what I want, and she'll make my hair look even better than what I expected. She'll also make suggestions with what would look good for me. Normally, this is a huge red flag for me as I have gone through several cases where a stylist's suggestion led to hair disasters. But I've learned to let Sarah do her magic. She never disappoints!! For the salon itself, it's a fun atmosphere where it seems like all of the stylists are friends or at least get along. I like that. I like that they also offer beverages. I usually take a glass of wine. I've heard that the other ladies here also do hair really well. They also do nails, although I've never gotten mine done here. They sell nail polishes from several different brands and sell bumble and bumble products as well. One bonus is that I have never even been remotely pressured to purchase a product from here, as many salons tend to do. If you are in the central PA area, I would definitely recommend this place. I've tried a few other salons in Hershey, some in Lancaster, and they don't compare. read more

I went here a couple of times and initially liked my cut and color, even though I left with dye all over my hair line. The last time I was there, I was asked to move my appointment time earlier, and I obliged. However, once I arrived I felt rushed. The stylist I had been going to had to leave early that day, hence my appointment being moved. She seemed to really rush me. After I left and met a friend at a nearby restaurant for lunch, I realized once again I had hair dye drip marks all over my forehead. For a higher end salon, this is unacceptable. Why are they not using remover or something else to clean your skin if there is dye residue? When I got home I used makeup remover and with a little force it came right off. Also highly disappointed that on my last visit they are no longer using Bumble and Bumble products, and that was one of the main reasons I started going there. Sorry. Caroline always takes the best care of me! She consistently gives me a great cut. I have had her color my hair all dark to make my faded ends match my roots, and most recently she gave me "ombré highlights" instead of a full ombré... It came out exactly as I hoped! I love it. All of my friends and family love it. The best part is that Caroline's personality and passion for her career match the quality of her work. She's the best! I actually met Olivia of Downstreet Salon while she was in New York for a Bumble and Bumble class - they occasionally hold classes for their experienced professionals such as Olivia (great idea, no?). She gave me the best round brush blow out of my life - just the right amount of curl at the end of my hair, and it still looks amazing two days later! (I know, it's time to give it a wash, but this was a seriously amazing blow out!) She was so professional while also being very friendly. Highly recommended! read more
