The parking lot has about 8ish spaces and a covered pavilion. The trail entrances require a trek back on the road to which you came and a jaunt down the roadway. We are geocachers and were able to find one prior to getting to the trail head which was nice for the littles with us. We found 2 of 3 we set out for so I consider that a success. An armadillo was spotted as were birds and groups of nice folk using the preserve. I saw a number of good picnic spots if one were so inclined. Will be back to this quiet space tucked away in New Tampa area.

There is also a very small butterfly garden with the native plants identified via signs. Some of the trails have boardwalks to avoid the extremely swampy bits but other trails were flooded due to the recent tropical storm. If it's rained recently, I'd recommend being prepared to get quite wet. The address doesn't actually take you exactly here so I'm not sure if this park has an accurate address. Nevertheless, life is good with a nice hike via trails through peaceful woods with the birds singing!

I spotted this on the Hillsborough County website and was intrigued…read more It's a little confusing because there is a "Cypress Creek Preserve" in Land O' Lakes but this "Cypress Creek Nature Preserve" is in New Tampa. The parking lot is next to the raised bridge on New Tampa Blvd that goes over I-75. It's not visible at all when you're driving on New Tampa Blvd. You have to turn off on a small, dead-end street called Lizard's Tail Rd to get to the parking area. There's a generous amount of parking and more than one covered picnic area. What's really odd is that there is no seating or tables in the covered picnic area. The Achilles heel for the path for this nature preserve is that the entrance is a quarter of a mile from the parking lot. First you have to walk on the road to the beginning of Lizard's Tail Road. Then you have to walk on the sidewalk along the busy New Tampa Blvd. Neither of these walks are exactly pleasant. Then when the road curves to the left if you look to your right you'll see a gap where you can walk through the fencing that parallels the road. I wouldn't have even thought this was an "official" entrance if there wasn't a blue sign there encouraging social distancing. What's nice is that there's also a black drop-box that contains maps of the three trails. Red and yellow are loops and the blue trial is a dead-end. After walking not too far into the woods you'll hit a really nice boardwalk. I would bet that 99.99% of people that drive by on New Tampa Blvd would have no idea it is back here. The boardwalk takes you to a large open area in the woods. Another odd thing is that the path from the boardwalk has been cleared but where the red path loops it looks overgrown and I wouldn't want to walk it in that state. It's nice that Hillsborough County provides these walking areas for us and it certainly was interesting discovering this one.

I personally wouldn't recommend this time and would suggest you go on a earlier tour as you will see more wildlife and the sun won't be so hot and beating down on you. Also, the water is more likely to be calm and smooth. This activity does require you to be able to balance so keep that in mind. I get motion sickness easily and didn't have too much of a problem with this activity. Make sure you drink well before going because it's a little bit of a workout. My husband is 6'4 and 230 lbs and he had to pedal more than I did as I'm only 5'4 and 120 lbs. We saw beautiful views of the Island and the Bay.

I made my hubs and pup go kayaking with me on a very early Sat. Morning. I enticed my hubs with…read morepromises of Domino's Pizza as a treat after - you have to be strategic and it's a mixture of give and take after nearly a decade together. This location is inside The Hyatt - lots of parking available and you will not be ticketed or towed - just need to check with front desk about where to park. We were going to go do SUP, but the waves were too choppy - even got caught up in an afternoon shower. We went with a single kayak per person - reserved for a couple hours. The process was so easy - just showed up with our Groupon or if they're not running one - you can easily book a reservation online at one of their many locations & pay ahead. The service was good - we chose our kayaks and she dragged them to the water and launched us after we got in. There are mangroves nearby if you're looking for a quiet spot, but it's not a lot of shade at all - mostly open water. Thankfully, we had a lot of cloud covers or else it'd be incredibly hot outside.
