Having been to a few estate sales around LA, Downsizing Solutions provided a unique avenue to continue the hunt without having to come in contact with COVID and its spreaders during this Pandemic. The format wasn't perfect, but, as Phil would say in the stream, "the future is now!" Doing it through Facebook Live in a sort of auction format helped me feel safe and secure from the comfort of my home! Before the first day of bidding, Phil live-streamed a preview of the items up for bid, which totally helped give me that itchy finger to buy! On the day of, people were ravenous for sales and cool stuff, and the bidding got hot. Phil's quips and snaps were an entertaining addition, and I had a few laughs watching the streams.   The Atwater Village sale had some really great items available, and I came away with almost everything I wanted (sometimes I just wasn't quick enough on the draw!). Phil was quick with responses afterward and always answered his phone if I had any questions. The curbside pick up was a total plus, and I was able to avoid any crowds at the home when collecting my purchases.   Thanks Phil and Downsizing Solutions, keep it up! Phil, the owner of this business, insulted every single person he came into contact with- employees and customers alike. I was shocked at his lack of human regard, as no one in attendance was trying to do anything but give him money! I stopped in at an estate sale as a friend of the family, only to find this inexplicably unpleasant man yelling at people. Everyone else employed was perfectly nice and helpful, despite working for such an unprofessional creature. Knowing that estate sale people are busy, I waited until the end of the first day of a two-day sale to call "Downsizing Solutions LA" regarding a sale near Century City. I asked if they still had an item that I saw on their online ad. The man I spoke to rudely told me, "I have no idea if it is still here." He was very abrupt and nasty. He said there was so much in the house that he wouldn't tell me. He made no effort to look and render help. It didn't make me want to go to the sale on the next day, even though it was 50% off. Against my better judgment, I drove over to the sale the next day and the parking situation was a nightmare. I could not find any legal parking in the area and did not want to risk getting an expensive ticket. I called again to ask where there was available parking and talked to this same rude man. He said I was the only person to complain about this. No one else had a problem. Is this any way to run a business - to offer no help and insult customers? If had hired this company to sell my property, I would be disappointed by this man's lack of salesmanship and horrified by his behavior. read more

So much to say about this company and the "Owner, Phil." Definitely not my favorite estate sale company to shop with but definitely not the worst (he ties for second to last place) Went to sale recently on the first day at opening. He comes out and welcomes us and goes on for about 7 mins explaining everything in detail on locations of items and rules. I got the feeling that this is the kind of guy who likes to hear himself talk and then he starts talking about the coins and jewelry in the cases all of a sudden he tells us (verbatim) "I have no problem telling you to F*#% OFF!" Gave him a pass cause I understand how people can get but trust me Phil... nobody's bum rushing your table of over priced metals. This isn't a Black Friday at Walmart and we aren't animals. I see how you talk to people and employees. You can do better, bro. Personally me, I couldn't care less. How you choose to run your business is none of mine and I'm strictly there for my business solely. I understand that there will always be this never ending battle between seller and buyer/reseller, but you need us as much as we need you. One estate sale company once told me "We need to work together to keep this going." And how true and insightful is that? I've read through most of your replies and you never seem to take responsibility for your actions and always place the blame on others cause you probably have the mentality of "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" But realize, this needs to be a symbiotic relationship. You also talk about us resellers like we're scum of the earth, but don't you see that you're a reseller too? Just at a different capacity. And don't be upset when we counter with a "lowball" offer. Do you honestly think you're the only one who gets lowballed? I couldn't tell you the amounts of times a day people want 75% off an item I have listed. I don't get upset. I decline/counter and move on. So we have to get things cheap cause who knows how long things will take to sell and for how much lower we have to sell it for? And it's not like people are buying mansions and yachts by reselling. If they are, I'm definitely doing it wrong and can someone out there please teach me? For those people/families looking to hire this guy, take this review with a grain of salt and I implore you to just go to his next sale and just watch his interaction with people and determine whether or not you want him representing your family, home and possessions. For you fellow resellers/hustlers, if you're looking for a deal on the first day, let me save you the trouble and tell you to not waste your time or hold your breath. His prices are higher than Goodwill and we all know how ridiculous these thrift stores have gotten. And I know the dilemma of being there early and getting all the "good stuff" first but first rule of reselling... if the price isn't right, leave it on site... I'm not gonna sit here and say "IM NEVER SHOPPING AT YOUR SALE EVER AGAIN! I HATE YOU!!! Cause let's be real, if you're the only one around on any given day, chances are...I'll be there... at least it'll be entertaining. I personally have no issues with you. You've (for the most part) have been decent and courteous to me but that's because I don't take someone being direct and straightforward as being rude or brash. Tuesday June 6th, Softwind Way, Torrance, CA Well, well, well, such mixed reviews for this company. They must be from two categories, #1- the shoppers who have attended one of his sales or #2- friends of his who he pressured into writing him a nice review to try to over-ride the honest reviews. Well I'll tell you now I am in the #1 league. I now can't fathom why I subjected myself to his rude behavior two weeks in a row, make no mistake I will never in a million years do so again. The owner of this company, Phil, is one of the worst narcissistic psychopaths with whom I have ever done business. He started the sale by yelling instructions at those in line, touting himself as the all knowing master of the estate sale business. He repeated himself several times, moving down the line so that everyone could absorb his wonderfulness. Throughout the sale he yelled at customers and employees alike. I don't even care to find out why, He was so unprofessional, condescending and down right rude to everyone in attendance. His was one of the lowest customer experience that I have ever experienced experienced. This was my second experience with him and will definitely be my last His sale in South Torrance had such great potential. I followed his ad instructions and drove to Torrance to put a box in line on Sunday night, within 2 hours of posting there were over 50 boxes in line. I had to wait in line over an hour to enter the sale and check out took almost as long. Contrary to his claim a good portion of the items in the house were not marked with sale prices. Only Phil could price items at checkout , so some orders took very long to add up. Again contrary to his claim, the items were not " priced to sell", most of the items which had drawn me to his sale were overpriced, some above retail. I purchased just a couple items to add to my collections, and placed hope in his 50% off day scheduled for the following Monday. Monday update: Oh my, again the yelling did not stop. Anyone who comes to the last 50%, let's clear it out day expects to get some deals. Many items had already been sold but there was loads and loads of overpriced stuff left to sell off. Phil kept telling customer quite loudly that over 800 people had shopped already and had been happy with his prices. Au contraire mon ami. Both days I overheard just about everyone complaining about his prices. I simply love Native American Arts so had to try to find some to buy. I found a couple Kachinas and a very small basket, at 1/2 price I could afford and love them. Check out again was a nightmare. I (We all) waited patiently while Mr. Narcissist carried items out to the car car of two thin cute twenty somethings car. He flirted with them the whole time they were checking out, and walking to their car, and remained talking to them for several minutes. One of the customers kept backing up away from him, fending off his overt advances while her friend continued laughing and flirted back. When he returned to check us out, he immediately began yelling at the first woman in the line, accusing her of causing his line to back up. She retorted she was just waiting to have her stuff priced since is assistant could add up her un-priced items. The woman behind her had many items on the checkout table and offered to let those of us with only a couple items go ahead of her to help him get the line (HE CAUSED) down And even then he was rude to that woman and continued to be rude to all of us. NOW FOR THE HEIRS: MR Rude Phil, on this last day informed all the shoppers that he had a contract which stated he was to reveal personal information about the client to the shoppers. Now if this was really in the contract he broke that clause, telling shoppers that the homeowner had been in an internment camp as a child, which was represented in her depressing artwork and which explained her collection of Southwest basketry. BUT even worse, he bragged about how much work his employees had put in, filling 7 dumpsters with trash. Saying that the house had been full of trash and vermin. That the family should have been ashamed of themselves for not stepping in earlier, that they should not have lt her live in such squalled conditions. (What a great way to trash talk your client). Financially worse for client: On this last day there was a man who bought a very large painting at half off for $700. Such a high price because dear old Phil knows art and researches every piece. Only after paying did the man reveal to several of us that he knew who the artist was (hidden signature in the content), that the original gallery label was on it, auction pricing for that artist's works half that size run $20,000 -$40,000 a piece NOW FOR PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS: If you have actually read my review ask yourself. Is this how I wanted myself or my relatives represented? Is this how I want my inheritance treated? Do I really want to work with someone like this? . read more

Disappointed is an understatement; all went well with scheduling with COVID restrictions. Phil & team were to be at my home 4 days prior to sale. He saw the items we had staged in my living room; there was digital treadmill, new recumbent by bicycle, two stereos/speakers, Dyson products, new pressure cooker, two large complete dish sets on & on! Two days prior to sale , Phil said we didn't have 'enough' to have a sale'?! The best he could do was have a friend with a truck to come and pick up everything and not charge us for hauling!! In the end, we didn't get a dime for all the products we left behind and the friend with the truck still didn't pick up all the stuff so I got charged $150 for a contractor to take it away for me. The owner of Downsizing Solutions LA is incredibly rude, unresponsive, and unaccommodating when it comes to simple and easy questions. I reached out to ask several straight forward questions regarding an upcoming sale (Do you sell items ahead of time? Is ___ still available? What is the price of X?) and was only met with hostility and interruptions. After finally deciding to call after numerous rude messages and unanswered calls, this man answers with such a disdainful tone that I couldn't believe it. Interrupts me mid-question, which was literally "Hi there! is this item still available?" and says that he "doesn't have time to get into it with me." Truly unreal. If you want someone to run your sale, please go elsewhere! At least until this guy learns to have some modicum of decency. read more

Needs to hire a second cashier on Opening Day. Saw 12 people in line to pay this morning in Carson. Waited 30 minutes to pay. Ridiculous.

Not only does Phil the owner treat his staff like total CRAP - but he also treats his Customers like crap. After spending $1000 - I went to pick up my items and a $500 item that he sold me on Facebook saying it was in PERFECT condition and was rusted and looked like it had been left outside. Because I didn't want it - he refused to give me some of the other tools and such that I purchased and had already paid for. The 3 people before me - were also unhappy with their purchases with parts missing etc. He went off on them too and when he got to me - he met his match. Stay away from this clown - he is an unscrupulous businessman and should be put out of business. What a rip off artist. When I canceled the order - he told me to put everything on the front porch. I had to file for a full refund on Paypal. Save yourself the hassle. Anyone with nothing to hide would not make your PREPAY without seeing the items in person. MANY MANY MANY unhappy customers and I wish I would have know BEFORE I saw his sale on Facebook! RUN - DON'T WALK - RUN the other way! In-person sale, everyone had masks, and the shoppers were limited. Everything was reasonably priced, with plenty of staff to help. At first, Phil seemed a little curmudgeonly, but once I got past the stressed Phil, he was fair, reasonable, and willing to negotiate. I left thinking he was a guy who was working hard to make a good sale. He is fair with the sellers and buyers. I look forward to visiting more sales. Phil adds character to wonderful sales. I was able to leave the items I could not take and pick up the next day. That is a first. read more

This estate sale company is absolutely horrible. Not only does the head guy yell at his own customers (today it was even regarding a mask on September 13, 2022, which he required for today's sale), but he also stood there humiliating his own employees who were ringing up the sales of the customers. I usually avoid his sales but today (a Tuesday) it was the only game in town. Doors were suppose to open at 9, he didn't open them until 9:15, then he SLOWLY lets people in. It took over an hour and a half to get in for those of us who even arrived an hour and a half before the sale. I heard some people even waited over two hours to get in. He is rude beyond words and I would just not use this company if you were thinking of hiring a company for an estate sale ... please go with any one else, all of us buyers will thank you! This is one of the worst estate sales companies around, I go to estate sales every week and I go to his absolutely as a last resort. read more

I went to this company's estate sale for the first time in Westminster. This sale did require a mask which is unusual nowadays, but the owner explained that it was for our protection because the tenant had passed away from Covid. I know other companies in the same situation would not require masks. I could see how this could upset some customers, but I appreciate that they were looking out for my health. Phil, the owner has a strong personality and comes off as a little aggressive when you first meet him. He is constantly moving to do his best to keep the estate sale organized and running smoothly. I can only imagine how stressful it is being in his shoes. But once you get to know him, as I did after the sale, he was calm, kind-hearted, and very gracious for my patronage. He is willing to work with you on the pricing if you have a bunch of items. There are plenty of employees around, at least one in every room of the house. The employees would help you save your items or help you take your items to the "saving" area. I found the employees to be very pleasant and informative. As a reseller the prices here are fair and I will definitely be returning to one of this company's sales. A lot better pricing than those big estate sale companies. Phil, you are the man! Phil and his team are the absolute hardest working and genuine people I know. He was responsive, open hearted, kind and thoughtful to me. My situation was very hard emotionally and he felt like a friend. He truly helped me through this process and never rushed me along through some of the harder moments. He was incredibly responsive and up against a tight deadline and very organized. He was thoughtful about the possessions and curated Facebook live sales to keep everyone safe. I would highly recommend Phil and his team for any liquidation/estate sale. He really understands going rate/market value in a way that really surpassed my expectations. Downsizing Solutions LA is a pretty good company if you are estate buff like I am. I moved to the area from another state May 2020, so I was looking for estate sales in the area and found this business on social media. The sales I have been too in person have had some pretty great items and depending on the item itself you are looking for the prices do vary as no two sales are alike but you can try to haggle, again it just depends on what the item is. With Covid, the sales are currently online auctions until Covid does settle down. Before the day of the sale there are online preview sales a day or two before so you have a better idea and not just going off the online preview pictures where Phil the owner does explain how the process works and does answer questions to the best that he can and if he does not have the answer he will go to the estate owner to clarify. If you have ever been to an auction then you know once the item is sold and you have the winning bid, then that's what you will pay. People are picky so you will never please everyone. Some bidders might not be happy with the price of an item but Phil does try to price them to what an item is being sold for on other legit sites like record sites if its a vinyl sale. A person might have lost out on a bid and not be happy but I've lost out on bids but that is the nature of an auction. In person sales are a different game because its whomever grabbed the item first. The staff is a great bunch of people and try to do the best they can during these trying times so I will continue to watch for an upcoming sales they may have because I love estate sales and I know the sales that Downsizing Solutions LA have are worth watching for whether in person or online. read more

This is the first time I've have attended a sale with this Estate Sale Company and it will be my last. I have never met such a miserable person than I did running this estate sale. I also have never been treated so badly. I am a collector and not a dealer. It was not only me that he was rude and mean to but he was that way to his staff and to other customers who had questions or needed help purchasing items within this old collectors house. I arrived a little after 1:00pm, as I knew they closed at 2:00pm, but just couldn't get there any earlier. As soon as I walked into the house to check the sale out I could feel the tension in the air. I asked one of the sales associates about an un-priced item. He told me anything not priced would be priced at the register by a guy named Phil in a blue shirt and glasses. He also told me not to ask for a discount because he won't give one. So I was not about to carry up a heavy table to the front only to have him give me an unreasonable price. So I left it there and found a onyx pillar with a price and the sales associate said that when I was ready to check out he would help me with this very heavy pillar. So I was gather a few small clocks up that I was purchasing to go stand in line when all of a sudden this Phil guy come through the house yelling at everyone to get out that they were now closed- no warning or anything. He said it was time to leave now pay for your things and leave. I thought gee this guy must have had a very bad day. So I put my thing down on the and went to find help in getting my pillar to the front so I could pay. Big guy Phil stood in the door way and said your not going any where. I told her I just wanted to get my pillar and leave. He made such a little hissy fit as bd told me to wait right here and he would go check on it. Like what am I going to do go snd rummage through a few dirty boxes when he said closed? His arrogance alone was enough to turn anyone off. The sales assistant was on top of things and brought my pillar out another door. Phil had to tell me one more time the "SALE" was over and pay for your thing and "get out"! It was done in such an ungodly way that I almost told him to keep the items and shove them up his a** , but I refrained from getting mad or violent and just left but, I wasn't done yet. I wanted to tell my story as I know other customers were very perturbed by his unprofessional behavior. Phil was treating me, his workers and other customers in a way that no one should tolerate. Maybe the guy was just having a bad day? But he was a text book example of what not to do to have and grow a successful business. He must have been the most irritable, grumpy, mean and obnoxious person I have ever met in that business. He was doing his client no favors by treat the customers the way he was, even telling an elderly gentleman to take his own stain glassed window down as he didn't want his staff held responsible if it should break. He wanted them watching other customers. I was going to go back the next day but this guy turned me off so much I will never ever knowingly attend one of his estate sales. The most unbelievably rude human being I've ever run into in the estate sales business. I didn't even make it past the driveway as my questions to the older male running the cashiers booth were answered with a remarkably snarky and unbelievably rude attitude. His exasperated tones and condescending , demanding response to my questions left me with the opinion that he is a man who's used to pushing people around and somehow thinks that he is more important than he is. As a local who lives within blocks of the sale it's shocking to me . I bet that the family that hired him never expected this kind of customer service. I hope if you are reading this and you were thinking about hiring this company or If you are a family who has recently lost a loved one or if you are ever in a situation that you need an estate sale done, please think twice about this company and hiring a person like this at the helm. I interviewed three companies--but it wasn't a hard decision to choose Downsizing Solutions. I was impressed with the knowledge of its owner Phil Pelege (he knew what the odd little forks were called and used for) and with his appreciation of my mother's taste in furniture and furnishings. Her possessions in three stages. His crew and he did in-depth research to reach a fair price for each item. They also made sure that the furniture and art work were well displayed. The teak furniture was oiled and if necessary mended. Phil fell in love with my mid-century doll furniture and mended several pieces himself after making special purchases to fix them. I can wholeheartedly recommend Downsizing Solutions LA without any reservations. read more

Resellers who are greedy are giving us a bad rap. I've made good money at these sales. Purchased an autographed Raider ball for 50 a bunch of putters and some vintage clothes for 34 at the same one. I made some money! I ended up getting the ball authenticated and BOOM. Recently, he I got a smashing deal on 30+ Mattel Elite Wrestling figures and made my money back the same week and have quadrupled my initial investment. For those of you looking into Phil, he's an acquired taste (no offensive phil). Don't be overly sensitive. If you're nice, he'll be nice back. Also, to the resellers, if you dont like the prices, tough luck. It's a part of the hustle. Don't try to strong arm for lower prices. Dude has a responsibility to the family. Where do I start. I have been to many estate sales and never encountered such unprofessional behavior from the person running the sale. All employees kept on referring me to the owner for prices. Mind you, this is the last day, last hour for the sale, so if the goal is to make money for the estate then they failed miserably. Asking prices were ridiculous, comparable to items online, and when I asked what they planned to do with all the items, they said it was going to charity. They would not bargain in good faith. Isnt the goal to make money for the estate until the last minute? Wonder who the charity is? On my way out, i made a 10 dollar offer on a 20 dollar sticker item, and was countered at 15...again last hour of sale, only to be told take it for 10 when walking out. There are different strategies to running an estate sale towards the end, and I will say this is not one of them. Just a complete brownbag show. I gave two stars since the othe employees, basically security, were nice when they kept on referring me to owner for a price. read more
