They addressed every concern we had -- from the cleanliness and overall smell of the facility, to the quality of patient-to-nurse engagement and their willingness to create a structured long-term rehab plan for him. The staff took time to answer all of our questions regarding safety procedures, visitor check-in protocols, room arrangements, and daily care. We also appreciated learning that the patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 8:1, and that rooms typically accommodate three patients. We have been here with our mother a little over a week. There are a few people that have been helpful and caring, nurse Carla has been excellent with our mother, speech therapist Eva is also excellent and caring. But I do have a complaint about CNA Leticia with the short hair, she is rude and mean. Both patients in this room have had strokes, both have a hard time speaking; our mother completely lost strength on her right side yet this CNA expects her to lift both her arms. My experience with Downey Post Acute, where my mother recently stayed, was mixed. It's not the worst nursing facility, but it's far from the best. While there are some exceptional staff members, there are serious issues that make it difficult to fully trust the care provided. Visitation Policy Creates Barriers One of the most frustrating aspects of this facility is their requirement for a COVID test every time you visit. This is unheard of in other medical facilities in California and creates unnecessary delays for family members trying to see their loved ones--often at critical moments. Lack of Leadership and Poor Physician Care The facility's director, Jason, has an on-site office but is not actively involved in patient care. The resident physician, Dr. Lamont, has an extremely poor bedside manner. When I questioned my mother's medication dosage, she argued with me instead of addressing my concerns professionally. After she left the room, a nurse admitted that this kind of behavior was common and often led to confusion. Caring Staff Members Amidst Inconsistencies in Care There are some truly wonderful people working at Downey Post Acute, including nurse Cesar, nursing assistants Alma and Anna, and speech therapist Kate. However, unless you are physically present every day to advocate for your loved one, their care may suffer. I repeatedly had to request that my mother be cleaned up, and on multiple occasions, she was left unkempt. One day, after being given a shower, she was brought back to bed still soaking wet, with wet clothes, and was freezing. Concerns About Physical Therapy The physical therapy staff was kind, but they refused to allow me into the therapy gym to observe my mother's progress. I had no choice but to take their word for it. Now that she is home, I find it hard to believe she was actually walking 30-50 feet as they claimed. She can barely take a few steps, was never taught how to swivel to get out of bed properly, and never learned how to get into a car. A Preventable ER Visit After her first night at the facility, my mother was sent to the emergency room due to an issue that could have been avoided entirely. The staff failed to provide her blood pressure medication on time, which caused a dip in her blood pressure, triggering an unnecessary hospital visit. We spent eight hours in the ER only for her to recover naturally after finally receiving her medication. Personal Belongings Went Missing Unfortunately, theft appears to be an issue at this facility. My mother's bouquet of flowers--brought to celebrate her birthday--was stolen from her room the very next day. This was especially disheartening. Additionally, after just one day, one of her shirts went missing. I requested it multiple times, but no one ever followed through. A Final Warning: Suspicious Reviews People should be aware that I strongly suspect most of the Google reviews for Downey Post Acute are fake. As a digital media professional, I know how easy it is to falsify reviews, and based on my analysis, it appears that many of their positive reviews were likely written by their own staff. This facility does not match the glowing reputation reflected in those reviews. Final Thoughts While there are some dedicated staff members at Downey Post Acute, the facility's poor management, lack of proper patient advocacy, and inconsistent care make it difficult to recommend. My family member has been discharged from this facility for more than one month yet all the meds and supplies ARE STILL going to that facility, even after I personally took time off work to go there and speak with the Business Manager, who assured me that his address would be returned to the original one before admittance. Neither a phone call from the facility to tell me the supplies and meds are still arriving there nor did they correct the address, as she assured me would be done the day I was there. Fire the nurse named Nicki, she is an older woman. She mistreats patients during her shift. She'll shove them onto the bed or simply grab them really hard. I asked two patients and they said she showered them with cold water. If she doesn't like her job she can go apply for mailman or maybe janitor (she won't have to speak with anyone and will stop hurting people) I genuinely don't understand the bad attitude. Hire better nurses! Do better Downey Post Acute! It's ridiculous the amount of bad reviews you have. I recently was at DPA after the hospital. The wound care team is excellent, knowledgeable and caring. The physical and occupational department is fantastic. They know what exercises I need and make it fun. I have been their 9 times in 5 years and they always get me healed and ready to go home. The administration and caregivers are respectful and comforting. I hate getting sick, but I am always relieved to be welcomed at Downey Post Acute. read more

We chose Downey Post Acute for short term rehab after a fractured C2 on my father. They accepted him as such, except when he was transferred there they only had beds in the long term convalescence side of the facility. Being placed in a 3 bed long term room wasn't what was expected and did a number on my dad's mental health. The person next to him screamed all day and night, and the other person was a very old man who slept and couldn't speak. I asked that he be moved to the short term physical rehab side and was told there were no beds (so not sure why the accepted him as needing such) This facility is very dirty and ran down to say the least. I asked over and over for the staff to please speak English as this is the only language my dad and our family speak this request was continually ignored. My dad was ordered by their occupational therapist is have adaptive silverware (weighted) to eat with he wasn't given the utensils instead a plastic silverware the complete opposite of what he needed. While he was in there care he fell twice needing transportation to the ER to be checked out. After staying 1 week we removed him from Downey Post Acute. The care quality is by far the worst experience I have ever seen. No human sure endure the care at this facility. The day to day staff is rude and you can tell that they do not like being questioned or have family members advocate for their loved ones. I was continually given the run around being told to ask for different people while trying to get him discharged. Even the discharge process was an issue as they completed two different discharge plans i was given one when we took him out and the insurance company was given a different one. I would highly suggest never using Downey Post Acute care or if you have a loved one at Downey Post Acute getting them moved. read more

A little over a year ago my great grandmother had fell off of her bed so she was taken hear to rehabilitate, she was only supposed to stay here a week or two , but after their supposed "care" my grandmother never made it back to us. They severely mistreated her to the point her entire back was almost full of rashes and she would never be bathed. I absolutely hate this place and I hope to see the woman who were taking care of my grandmother separately in private. Do not send your elderly here if you hope to see them again. read more

As a former employee of Downey, i witnessed much neglect and abuse of the residents. I would recommend looking into the dept of public health deficiency list, which is public, and from there you will get a better idea of what life is like for loved ones placed at this facility. Bedsores, falls, and preventable infections are common place. In the rehab room, they do not let family members view or participate in therapy, mostly because therapy at this facility consists of the residents sitting and waiting to get on a stationary bike while the rehab staff joke and poke fun at the residents for entertainment. When a family asked if they can be present during PT, a PTA said "why dont they just leave us alone to do our own thing". It is not a place to send your loved one if you care about their well being. read more

I called to get information on long term care a few weeks ago, the staff was very helpful

My mom stayed at Downey Post Acute for a little under two weeks, and our experience was very disappointing. At admission, we were told that a doctor would see her once a week, but that never happened, and no one ever corrected this promise despite me repeating it multiple times. Nurses often went hours without checking her blood pressure, and I had to specifically ask them to do so. Even worse, many of their blood pressure cuffs didn't work properly, yet staff continued to use them anyway, which raises serious safety concerns. On one occasion, a family member came to visit and found my mom jerking and barely responsive from extremely low blood sugar, and no CNA was anywhere to be found. The only reason her sugar returned to normal was because family happened to show up -- not because of staff intervention. On more than one occasion, my mom also had to return to the hospital and on her last day, she was transferred to a hospital 18 minutes away without anyone informing me, even though I was present all day. My mom told me she did not want to return to Downey Post Acute, but staff still planned her discharge back to this facility against her wishes. Communication with the facility was terrible as well -- most of the time when calling to speak to the nurses' station, no one would pick up, and the phone would just keep ringing. While a few CNAs were kind and the social work team was very helpful and the best advocates within the building, most nurses came across as rude or dismissive, and overall communication was poor. Occupational Therapy also did not coordinate with CNAs or patients' schedules; instead, therapy was arranged around therapist convenience, even when patients had dialysis or other medical needs. read more

Just wanted to leave this review for reference, don't take your family here. As somebody that has first hand witnessed the type of Mal-practice provided to their patients, I don't wish this place on the healthiest individuals. Registered Nurse Starr C lack of knowledge to her own patients was disheartening, patients will constantly complain about their needs not being met and all she has to provide in return is attitude. This place is structurally unorganized. There is no chain of command. Everybody you need to talk to is coincidentally "out for the day". They claim to do physical therapy or speech therapy everyday, I am with my grandpa everyday he gets these sessions about ONCE a week each. On top of that the speech therapist is very rude and claims my grandpa can speak but doesn't "want to". That is no way to speak to a patient who is struggling with speaking. To me that is the most important aspect to a rehab is having SPECIALIZED physicians accommodate for their patients disabilities. If that is not achieved the only difference between having my grandpa here versus home is i don't get to see my grandfather as often. It seems every request I have is up to somebody else and nothing ever gets resolved. Even with their "I'll leave a note" answers. There is always a group of "nurses" on their phones and/or chatting it up in the hallways. The place seems well staffed at all times you would think I can get somebody with SOME authority. read more
