I've been coming to Down Under School of Yoga for a few weeks now and cannot say enough wonderful things about this studio! They're currently offering a $30 for 30 days of unlimited yoga for new customers. The studio is conveniently located off the C Line at the St. Mary's stop. There is street parking available as well. The studio offers lockers, restrooms, and showers. They also have mats and towels to borrow in case you don't have your own. I love that they offer a heated flow - like hot yoga but not as intense. Their class schedule offers various levels of experience and various types of classes all throughout the day. My favorites are the regular Flow and Heated Flow classes. Every instructor I've had has been extremely kind, welcoming, and encouraging. They are so knowledgeable and want to help you get the most out of your practice. And all the fellow Yogis are kind and welcoming. It's a nice community and a wonderful place to practice. After my trial month is up I will definitely take advantage of their monthly membership and student specials.

Amazing Feldenkreis class! Better than a massage, I am all loose and limber and integrated in my body afterwards. Thank you!

Great place and location. Heat is not SUPER hot, just perfect: guessing maybe 95 degrees.

I came to Baptiste in 2021 without prior hot yoga experience and felt welcomed; now in 2024, I continue to commute 1hr each way to practice. Having taken sessions at both the Brookline and the Northampton locations, across varying class energy levels, I always leave feeling like a better version of myself. Nuts and bolts: heated classes of ~95F; plenty of streetside and lot parking; classes with 15-40 participants without feeling cramped; mat/towel rentals at $3; complimentary hydration station, toilets and changing stations!

Took my first class here with Mark. A couple of notes here. Also, if you have a few minutes, I…read morerecommend scanning their IG page to get an idea of what you're in for. 1. The class gets very, very hot, between 90-95 degrees F. For the hour of power class, the sequence is fast-paced. At one point, I ended up skipping every other chatarunga in order to keep up (sorry, Mark). Also, not many breaks built in so I took plenty of self-imposed breaks. We hit a lot of different poses in that one hour. I wasn't bored, that's for sure. Panting and dripping sweat and conscious of the giant puddle I was birthing, but not bored. I loved the focus on some of the lesser-done moves, like crow. (Seriously, every yoga class is going to do bridge. Also, petition to banish ab work from all yoga sequences. Signed, someone who hates bicycles with a fiery passion.) Stinky foot smell scale: 7/10. I got used to it after a while, though. 2. Mark is a beloved teacher judging on how full the class was and how many regulars there seemed to be. And he was truly awesome. One of the best, clearest yoga teachers I've ever taken, who would do the moves with us as he went along. I noticed halfway through that he wasn't using music and seriously, that made such a difference. I felt like I could concentrate on what he was saying and what I was doing without getting caught up in whatever song was playing. That said, he does hands-on assists (no heads-up is given at the beginning of class so this is me giving it). Some people (including me) don't mind it - in fact, I'm giving an apology in advance for how soggy I was; others might find it distracting or intrusive. Granted, this isn't specific to this one teacher. If you go on the Baptiste Power IG, hands-on assists is listed as one of the core features of their practice. I suppose it's up to each individual person to weigh that and decide if maybe another studio feels right for them. 3. Studio is nice and spacious with windows (I hate the windowless interior ones that make you feel like you're in a basement, looking at you, CPY). It gets crowded AND there's definitely a strategy to picking a spot, hence why it would behoove you to get there early. It seems like the ends of the room (closest to the door and windows) are the coolest, while the center and closer to the front get the hottest (since you're under the row of lights overhead and also right in the instructor's line of sight). I didn't cotton on to this quickly enough and by the time I had gotten myself set up, it was too late. Front and center and a literal puddle by the second sequence. Also: no mirrors. On bad body image days, I appreciate that, though sometimes catching sight of myself in a bind or doing eagle gives me a confidence boost. 4. Parking: metered street options, plus a lot right across the street. The studio is in a bustling part of Brookline, with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby.

I started going by using my Class Pass and only found myself wanting to use my credits here. Then I tried out the free week trial through CorePower directly and loved it. I didn't wanna take a rest day! I will say you need to be careful because I didn't realize I had booked an eighth class and it didn't notify me that the free trial was over. Once I attended, I was charged $35. I was reached out to by a staff member via email and then got a discounted first month of unlimited classes. I am excited to continue this journey! Here's what stands out to me: The instructors are all so friendly and cultivate such a warm, welcoming environment. There is an infectious energy in the studio that makes you want to chat with your neighbor. The studio feels spacious for the amount of people that can be packed in there. It is always so clean!! Even the mirrors. Also, the LEDs are a fun addition. The locker room, although tight at times, is maintained impeccably. Always clean and stocked with amenities. I love that they always have spray deodorant and tampons! It's hard to feel clean when taking the classes and having several stocked showers is great. I am getting stronger and feel great! Even in little ways I am seeing great process that makes me want to stick with this for a while. To be continued!

Since it was a smaller class, we got some personalized guidance for chatarunga and crow. Chatarunga is one of those poses that looks so easy and flawless when someone does it correctly but it's super tricky to get right yourself. So I appreciated the step-by-step demo. The only nit has to do with the playlist - it was a wide mix of different genres and didn't, IMO, really match the flow. Oh, but some drama. Not sure what happened exactly but the girl next to me left about ten minutes in. It's not exactly a slow sequence so maybe that was what turned her off but C1 is technically the fundamentals class and it's really only going to get harder from here (as someone who plodded through C2 recently). In any event, the shuffling next to me was a tad distracting. The studio was nice and roomy, loved the windows that let in some light on a rainy afternoon. My complaint has to do with the lockers. First - the funky cheesy feet smell scale was off the charts. 100000/10. Second, the lockers looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while: lots of hair, dust, what looked like cracker crumbs (??) in one. I'm not super squeamish about this sort of thing but CPY is not cheap and the facilities could be a lot cleaner for the price point. Parking: metered street options right in front. Front desk is very nice and welcoming.

She was incredibly attentive to the needs of all of us students and really tailored the class to what we needed that day. I loved it. Since that class, I started doing private Yoga Therapy sessions with her on a regular basis and taking her group classes whenever she offered them. It has made a big difference for me. There's nothing like having someone dedicate an hour to really working with you. I have felt a big difference physically and emotionally (!) from working with her. The private yoga therapy sessions last about an hour and are always different. There's usually a mix of talking/checking-in to see what's been going on, breathing practices (pranayama), physical practices (asanas), relaxation techniques, recommendations for helping to feel better throughout the week, energy work, etc. Really, there's so much that comes into the sessions. I always felt I came away from them feeling better, more relaxed, and with some real tools that I could use on my own. I loved that. It really made me feel like I was getting something tangible out of the sessions. She also offers workshops, which have been excellent and are a great way to meet her and see her style. Her studio offers Trio classes, which are semi-private yoga class for three people. Those are a really nice way to get many of the benefits of the private sessions but at a much lower price. Private sessions are definitely an investment, but I feel like the benefits I got from them made it more than worth it. Bottom line: I can't say enough good things about Divya Jyoti Yoga Studio. It's definitely worth checking out!
