Here is a business model for all Yoga Schools. If you read my earlier reviews you will see my journey with CPY. The last time I did a review it wasn't very flattering (as a large, older man with a terminal illness, I need them to offer more HPY and C1 during the day, but right now they are focused on Sculpt classes). It wasn't a review of the teachers nor the schools themselves (which are wonderful), it was just a critique on needing more access to accessible classes (I think I speak for more than a few people on this) in a climate in Boston as a whole, which isn't always marketing Yoga to larger bodies, older people, or people with serious illnesses. Now, after my last review, a person from Customer Care (Alli) contacted me, and we began a conversation about my review. Admittedly, sick, tired, nauseas and in pain, I wasn't the easiest person to deal with, but to her credit, Alli remained supportive and professional with me. After a few months of discussion, I decided to engage the opportunities that CPY had to offer, and together with management of my local CPY, and with the Customer Care Team (especially Alli), I am back at CPY today. It's not easy for someone with severe chronic fatigue syndrome, an inflammation disease, and a terminal degenerative muscle disease (not to mention being over 300 pounds) to get on the mat, but working with my doctors, and working with the wonderful people at the studio, I'm back on the mat once again. I don't think it would have been possible without all of the kindness, compassion, and support of Alli, and the support from people at the studio. CPY is the perfect place to launch my battle for my health and my life, and to relaunch my yoga practice (I was in Mysore, India, way back in 2011, studying Yoga!). The studio is clean, the changing rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and supportive, the Yoga is well-designed and there is room to push hard as well as take a rest and do what you can do at this time. I have been really enjoying my time at CorePower! Now having completed 15 classes, I can say I am totally hooked. I started going by using my Class Pass and only found myself wanting to use my credits here. Then I tried out the free week trial through CorePower directly and loved it. I didn't wanna take a rest day! I will say you need to be careful because I didn't realize I had booked an eighth class and it didn't notify me that the free trial was over. Once I attended, I was charged $35. I was reached out to by a staff member via email and then got a discounted first month of unlimited classes. I am excited to continue this journey! Here's what stands out to me: The instructors are all so friendly and cultivate such a warm, welcoming environment. There is an infectious energy in the studio that makes you want to chat with your neighbor. The studio feels spacious for the amount of people that can be packed in there. It is always so clean!! Even the mirrors. Also, the LEDs are a fun addition. The locker room, although tight at times, is maintained impeccably. Always clean and stocked with amenities. I love that they always have spray deodorant and tampons! It's hard to feel clean when taking the classes and having several stocked showers is great. I am getting stronger and feel great! Even in little ways I am seeing great process that makes me want to stick with this for a while. To be continued! read more

CorePower Yoga - Comm Ave - Yoga Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for CPY Comm Ave. I really enjoyed the C1 class I took with Neha, who provided plenty of modifications and encouragement. Since it was a smaller class, we got some personalized guidance for chatarunga and crow. Chatarunga is one of those poses that looks so easy and flawless when someone does it correctly but it's super tricky to get right yourself. So I appreciated the step-by-step demo. The only nit has to do with the playlist - it was a wide mix of different genres and didn't, IMO, really match the flow. Oh, but some drama. Not sure what happened exactly but the girl next to me left about ten minutes in. It's not exactly a slow sequence so maybe that was what turned her off but C1 is technically the fundamentals class and it's really only going to get harder from here (as someone who plodded through C2 recently). In any event, the shuffling next to me was a tad distracting. The studio was nice and roomy, loved the windows that let in some light on a rainy afternoon. My complaint has to do with the lockers. First - the funky cheesy feet smell scale was off the charts. 100000/10. Second, the lockers looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while: lots of hair, dust, what looked like cracker crumbs (??) in one. I'm not super squeamish about this sort of thing but CPY is not cheap and the facilities could be a lot cleaner for the price point. Parking: metered street options right in front. Front desk is very nice and welcoming. read more

This studio space is really large/spacious (Especially in comparison to other CPY locations), but the amenities are really lacking. One of the sinks has been broken since forever, the mats usually smell, and the trash in the bathroom needs to be taken out seriously... Also the studio floors should be cleaned more. Took a Sculpt here and a Core Restore, and no complaints as the classes were amazing as all CPY classes are though :) read more

lot of sorority girl instructors... who don't seem to be very knowledgeable about yoga as a whole. Place seems like kind of a sham, not super clean for how much it costs, does not seem to use the values and principles of yoga. I'd reccomend going to a real yoga studio if you're looking to work on more than your body. The workout was hard, but there's definitely a very corporate/pyramid scheme vibe overall. I did the free week and only did 2 classes I did not care for it. read more

Phenomenal !! Collin B. is an amazing instructor with a wealth of knowledge and extremely resourceful in his craft. I had the pleasure of taking his class several times a week while my stay in Boston and I owe it to him for having a well balanced visit and peaceful stay in Boston. All of his classes were my favorite but I REALLY enjoyed the hot fusion yoga classes, I left feeling like a leaf (so I tuned with myself and peace) I definitely recommend all of his classes !! I am very grateful his girlfriend Katiushca referred me ! Simply phenomenal. Also, the studio along with the restroom were always clean and had all the amenities a woman would need ! Very convenient. I love this location. There are so many class options and the staff and teachers are so friendly and awesome. They have a nice little store and seating area when you walk in with tall ceiling which adds to a great vibe. There is free two hour parking sound the corner on Brighton Ave or meters in front of the studio. Also directly on the green B line Packards Corner stop. I bought the unlimited monthly pack which is helpful if you do classes at least twice a week. They also have drop ins or packages you can buy. On the weekends they offer 75 minute class options. The locker rooms have showers, body wash, deodorant,q-tips, and mouthwash. If you forget a hair tie they have them at the front desk. You can also rent a towel, yoga mat, or water for $2 each of you forgot yours. The only complaint I have is the locker room can get very tight before or after class. The space is narrow and having 20 girls rush to lockers, grabbing to get their belongings, and changing post class can be very chaotic. read more

Such a fun workout! It's super hot in the rooms so be prepared to sweat. I loved the instructor Dan's classes at this location, he always plays great music and has a challenging class which I like a lot. It's very clean inside and the studios are large enough that you can spread out from other people in the class. read more

I was really excited to hear about the new CorePower Yoga opening up on Comm Ave. I first started going to CPY back in Chicago, and have been going to the other studios in the area since moving to Boston. CPY does a great job with putting out a consistent product. As a consumer, you can expect pretty much the same thing out of every studio: cleanliness, efficiency, class options, and enthusiastic instructors. So here's what you need to know if you've never been to any CPY location: -The room is heated -Classes are done to the tune of the instructors playlist -Yoga Sculpt class is less of a stretch and more interval aerobics - Hot Power Fusion follows many of the poses from the Bikram series, with way less time in savasana (my personal favorite class) If you're already a CPY fan, here are some things specific to this studio: -No parking (diagonal meter spaces out front are $.25 for 12 minutes, and end at 6pm) -Studio 1 has some difficulty keeping the heat in for the time being (probably because it is right up front by the windows) -The crowd seems to be representative of the area (i.e. chatty college students) Though I'm not sure if I'll make CPY Comm Ave my home base, I really appreciate having the option for different class times. I usually go to cp in DC, but dropped in while I was traveling, went to a C2 with Ronan who was very welcoming and lead us through an awesome flow. This core power is physically larger than some I have been to but it was no less southing, will return to the location next time I pass through BOS. read more

I've only tried the Yoga Sculpt class from CorePower and it is so different from any other yoga class I've taken. First off, it incorporates elements of vinyasa through having students flow through exercises with asanas like chair and warrior while also throwing some Pilates and cardio into the mix. Not to mention, towards the end of the class instructors like to incorporate some HIIT and burpees and if you weren't already sweating from the heated room those two things are sure to get your blood pumping. Secondly, CorePower's instructors are also really friendly and positive, making the practice much more enjoyable. Which was greatly appreciated because let's be real burpees suck and I really needed that extra boost of energy to keep me going! And last, but definitely not least, they offer a free week of unlimited classes for new students! read more

I absolutely adore this place. I'm still kind of new to yoga and it took me a while to gather up the courage to go to a new place. I had never tried hot yoga until a close friend of mine suggested that we do a free week together. I live in Back Bay so I do take the T to get there but it is SO worth it. My first class was the Yoga Sculpt class, and it kicked my butt into gear. It incredibly challenging but equally as rewarding- it was probably the best workout I've had in my whole life. I was sore in places I didn't even know were capable of being sore. The other class I attended was HPF- Hot Power Fusion. I believe this is their hottest class. I did the 9PM candlelit class with Shawna and it is my favorite. Shawna is a great guide and is very helpful with improving my poses. She is awesome!! The studio is impeccably clean- the rooms are spotless, as are the changing rooms and the front lobby. The staff is so friendly and encouraging. They make me feel challenged, but not terrified. I look forward to every time I go there, because I leave with a better peace of mind and a stronger body. This place is my literal safe haven. read more

I recently started a membership with CorePower and it has been a fabulous addition to my life and routine! I personally enjoy to sculpt classes which incorporate weights, blocks, upbeat music, and encouraging instructors to push you during the 60 minute session. I leave each class sweaty and sore, but also stronger and energized. Sophia V. at the Allston location is a fantastic instructor! She's encouraging and supportive, and I will be a new regular at her Saturday classes! read more

When I first went to CPY I was a bit skeptical. There are reviews out there that say that CPY is not real yoga. However, once I took my first class I instantly disagreed. In a way CPY is exactly what I am looking for in a yoga studio. When I want to do a light flow I can got to the CP1 class. When I want to challenge my core and sweat a whole lot I can go to a CP2 or HPF class. Lastly, if I want to flow through poses, lift some weights, and dance around I can go to a YS class. You really do not have an excuse to feel bored or in need of a challenge at CPY. The studio is also very clean and extremely esthetically pleasing. There is no weird yoga studio smell wafting through the air. If you are still skeptical I highly suggest checking out a few classes (HPF is my fave). Your first week is 100% free. read more

I like that there are several day & time offerings for Hot Power Fusion with different instructors. It's the only class I am physically able to take and I greatly enjoy the variety of teachers. I particularly appreciate that Adam, Maureen, and Allison take the pace of the hot triangle sequence a little slower than others. I find I am more prone to aggravating my injuries when teachers take that particular part of HPF too quickly. I also appreciate the variety of music they play :) Also, the studio is always super clean and the vibe when you walk in is so calming and centering. Great yoga studio with consistently skilled instructors. I've taken over 10 classes here on different days and times and they've all been excellent. The studio itself is very clean, and street parking is usually pretty easy to find right outside or on that street. My favorite class is definitely the CorePower Sculpt class. It's a great workout and you always leave the class feeling fabulous! And sweaty, but is there any other way? Also, note: new students can get one week of free unlimited yoga, so take advantage of that! read more

A friend of mine from work convinced me to finally attempt a real commitment to yoga. I've always considered myself a traditional runner/hiker; I honestly felt yoga wouldn't provide everything I was looking for in terms of core workout. Boy was I wrong... Merely one hour in the C2 class kicked my butt so badly I realized there might actually be some truth to the yoga obsession happening lately. I've been going for a week now and I can't honestly say anything but good things about this place. The staff is super helpful and friendly, I feel safe and an aura of a judgement free zone from the overall clientele here. The locker rooms are immaculately clean and up to date; it's nice to see their entire focus is on simplicity, peace and harmony in everything they provide to you. I'd say the only frustrating part is the price, but it's an investment to yourself and your health and if it's a good fit, consider doing it! Also keep an open eye for Groupons.. I'll be looking forward to coming here more often in the upcoming months. Happy to have found an awesome place to do some wonderful core yoga. read more

CorePower Yoga: Amazing, you should try it! Commonwealth Ave Studio: Positive, upbeat, welcoming, and youthful. I love this studio. The instructors and friendly and welcoming. Amanda S is my favorite Sculpt instructor because she gives a great workout and also sets really insightful intentions. I've never had a bad instructor. This studio has predominantly college aged yogis, so to cater to that demographic the instructors play pop-music. I love it. If you are a yogi who prefers silence in the room before a workout, you will not find it before the Sculpt class. read more

I am obsessed with CorePower. I had bought the Groupon for 1 month unlimited for $75 and I was a new member so I got the 1 week free in addition to that. All their classes are beginner friendly, so don't hesitate to hop into any of the classes. All the classes I attended were heated (CorePower 1, 2, and yoga sculpt). If you love heated yoga classes... Then definitely come here. I recommend yoga sculpt if you want a class that has yoga/cardio/weights. My favorite is Catie's yoga sculpt class. She really makes you work hard.... And SWEAT like crazy. I feel awesome leaving any yoga sculpt class. Definitely makes me feel more toned than when I arrived for my practice. I also love core power 2 yoga class. Practicing the harder poses while trying to keep my balance makes me feel like I accomplished so much in a one hour class. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any class that you attend. All the instructors are super nice and the studio/bathrooms/showers are all really clean. If you need a lock for your stuff, you can grab a lock upfront! Definitely recommend Corepower -- just wish classes were cheaper (1 class for $23) read more

Kind of a tough location for me to get to, but I'm happy that the weather is finally nice enough for me to make the trek from Roslindale to Allston by T and via the 66 bus to attend classes at corepower. I've been a member of CP for sometime, but moving out to Boston from CA made it difficult to make it to this location so I canceled my membership and have been attending random yoga classes all throughout Boston. The facility is clean, the room is just warm enough, but I wish the variety in the sequences would change. Sometimes I feel like the sculpt routine is the same every week, same with the music. Some of the CP2 classes I've been to have felt like a CP1 class. Don't get me wrong, all the teachers are great, but I would just like them to switch up the routine once in awhile. Also, PLEASE PLEASE open up a location downtown or accessible via the orange line! read more

Overall I'm a huge fan of Corepower. I've taken classes here and in multiple locations in CA, and ultimately it's a great brand of yoga. I love the workout component, the heating is perfect, and most of the teachers are great. Pros: -you get a great workout -the heating isn't TOO intense but you will be sweating bullets -clean faculties -nice teachers -great variety of classes and times Cons- -I REALLY wish there was more variation in the flows- especially for sculpt. After a month working out here I feel like I always knew what was coming next. It seems like there's a "template" most teachers follow, which I'm guessing is a corepower thing not a teacher thing, but I would love to be surprised every so often..that's what keeps it exciting! -Music- My corepower class music in CA has always been spot on- a little bit of downtempo edm mixed with some mellow beats and always, always good. For some reason this commonwealth studio seems especially pop-oriented which I'm not a huge fan of. Even if it's sculpt, you don't have to play the top billboard song again and again each class to get us pumped. Variation is key, and this is yoga not a high school half time rally ;). -The college girls flock to these classes. Which is fine, but they tend to chat before class begins (in studio). I would really recommend a "please do not talk in studio" sign on the door. Overall, I go to this place about 4 times a week because despite its minor flaws, it is a mind body workout that CANNOT be beat. I see results in my body within a week back at corepower after a break. Shoutout to Emma M- I wish you taught more classes here! Love the music and variation in your flow. read more

Overall: Simple, neat studio, offer lockers and shower rooms, well designed and operated, very friendly staffs, various time slot for different people. The manager (Sam) is great and professional. Staffs: Meanwhile, I am wondering that maybe most of the instructors here are not long-term contract workers, having high mobility and therefore less connection and guidance with their student. But still worth the money. Better bring your own mat: rented mat is smelly, worn and cheap, Also a little distractive, mostly when you are asked to do child's pose, be relaxed and take a big inhale. But still, a smart strategy. Updated: I do see workers clean it really hard recently, maybe it gets better! Yoga It's a cool place for the young people who already know yoga and want to keep practicing it. If you are in such case you will love it. Other than that, prepare to talk to the instructors (they are very friendly) and ask for adjustment and suggestion, because CPY seems lack of solid intro of basic poses (also C1 is offered only once a day). And their unwind time at the end of class (except the hot fusion one) is really not enough. read more

I've lived around the corner from here for 2 years, and never took the time to scope it out. I am a yogi at heart, and have spent a lot of time over the past 3 years practicing yoga and instilling the mindset into my everyday routine. What deterred me from trying CPY for so long was the price. It is the most expensive yoga I have ever heard of. I finally found a great deal on Glit City that made it worth it. I went to use my membership, and they said I get the first week free! That was a huge incentive, and I took advantage of that week to try as many classes as I can before it actually counts.. I have now been to over 15 classes, and tried every type they have , with also several instructors. The classes are very challenging, hot, and definitely make for an intense workout. I always leave feeling in way better shape than when I walked in. Each class is very different, and each teacher, so I have found it important to try out many different ones since some I really like, and others just don't do it for me. I have found that they consistently focus on the exercise, and very few implement the spiritual/mind aspect of yoga that I truly relate to. However, I still find it fulfilling as yoga naturally facilitates a change in mentality. I am overall impressed and very satisfied with the intensity, challenge and mentality if the studio. The studio is clean, relaxing and spacious. There are three studios so that several classes can occur at once. The front has a great store with a large selection of clothes and yoga accessories, including lulu lemon and several other brands. The amenities are superior, with locks/lockers, showers, changing rooms, towels and rental mats. After experiencing CPY, I am so grateful to being my practice here. While being a student the full price is tricky to justify, it is certainly worth it! read more

I did their free week trial to see what it was like and was not impressed. I guess you can tell that it's not going to be "real" yoga when, in one of the class descriptions, it says "this class torches calories," because that is not what yoga is about. I took a few CP2 classes, which pretty much just seemed to be just about that--torching calories. The classes are an hour long, and there is no cool down at the end, which I think can actually be potentially damaging with the lack of stretches/restorative poses at the end. Savasanas (which none of the teachers seemed to be able to pronounce correctly), took up maybe 2-3 minutes at the end of classes, tops. The teachers play extremely loud pop and hip hop which is very distracting. I also tried a sculpt class and it was so horrible I had to walk out. I don't know how they get away with calling any of that yoga. It was basically just a boot camp class. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that boot camp classes are bad, but don't try to pass it off as yoga. The teacher was more concerned with getting everyone super pumped up (let's all shout out our pushup count together!) than making sure people had correct form that my back was messed up for about a week. I am a pretty physically active person, and have done a fair amount of fast-paced and challenging yoga before, but this just went too far. I think the CEO or founder made a statement or something that he wants CPY to be the Starbucks of yoga, which seems pretty antithetical to yoga on the whole. Bottom line--if you want a fitness club, this might be the place for you, but if you are actually looking for yoga, go somewhere else! read more

Was in town for a short while & took advantage of week session. Great staff informative & friendly. Hot fusion was awesome balance of flow and intensity. Room stayed hot thruout despite door being opened a few times. Instructor lead class well- easy to follow, great tips & corrections. Quality all around. Locker room also has amenities. read more

I did the free trial week at CorePower yoga and enjoyed the classes - the instructors were friendly, the playlists were good and the space itself is lovely. However, all of the mats I rented smelled awful. One smelled so strongly of feet it was distracting. In the studios, there is nothing to wipe down the mats after class. Just a simple spray bottle with water + lavender/peppermint oil would be great. read more

CorePower is a quality yoga chain and I am a huge fan of the classes and studio spaces. The heat level is ideal, the studios and locker room are super clean, and the instructors are very positive and motivating. Only class I don't enjoy is the Sculpt class which is more of an aerobic weights class than anything resembling yoga. I would suggest staying away from this one if you have any kind of joint problems (particularly knee) as I found some of the moves in this class were pretty aggravating to my knee and I had to heavily modify. Hot Power Fusion is my favorite class as it's very calming but still a great workout. Only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is some of the flows can be very repetitive and of all the Yoga options in Boston this is not at the top of my list but its still a great option and a good addition to the neighborhood. read more

This is my new home away from home! The gifted teachers, friendly staff, lovely ambience and decor, and challenging but rewarding classes keep me coming back. Catie, the manager, sets an impeccable precedent for customer relations - she takes the time and makes the effort to learn clients' names AND their stories and inspires other instructors to do the same. Not your average yoga, the hip and current music is a breath of fresh air, the heated rooms force you to sweat out all of your toxins, and the intentions and affirmations established by the teachers are incredibly empowering and motivating. Unfortunately, the studio is pretty pricey - as are all of the stores nationwide - but, even as a student, the cost is worth it! Find your inner peace in this warm (literally and figuratively) sanctuary :) read more

Love this place! I tried the free week and it was just what I was looking for. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean, spacious, and uncluttered. Overall the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. The classes (I went to CorePower 2 and Sculpt) were very challenging. As an aside: some folks say the sculpt class is not real yoga and I can see that. But it's an amazing class that combines yoga poses with weights and an awesome workout. As for CorePower 2, I found it to be a great yoga class, linking poses together in a really fun way. In all the classes instructors were very helpful at describing modifications for poses to make them more or less challenging so you can tailor them for yourself. This place isn't super convenient to my apartment, but I'm likely going to join anyway because I enjoy it so much. read more

I go to CPY in Allston almost every day. The first day I went, I really struggled with the class (I went to an HPF class after being out of yoga for a year or so), but the ladies were so encouraging and helpful that I've been a convert ever since. I will say that, being in a college area, sometimes the rooms are less quiet than they could be before class, but I think that the staff are trying to work on that. The instructors are intelligent, helpful and friendly, the facilities are clean and offer a number of amenities that are REALLY great, such as deodorant if you forget it, rental towels and mats, full showers, and shampoo and conditioner. CPY really offers everything that I could ever want in a studio, and I expect to be a part of the family there for a really, really long time. read more

I have taken three CorePower 2 classes at this studio and loved them. All three instructors were great . Their music playlists were all very different but also wonderful. The flow of the class was excellent. The studio is clean and the rooms have a nice vibe. I will always practice yoga at this studio when I am in the area. read more
