The chili in the loaded fries tasted like it came from an expired can found in a dollar store. The plain fries were fine and the blt was fine. But they certainly didn't make up for the other food. I love how it has kept the roots of its style; old time diner and cozy atmosphere. But they need to take a hard look at the food quality.

All our entrees were delicious (Cobb salad with chicken, Brisket sandwich, and the Hot Mess), each with a distinct wood flavor from the smoker in the kitchen. My Hot Mess was surprisingly good since I live in NC which is pulled pork paradise. Excellent. A couple critiques are the plate for the salad was too small making it difficult to eat, and the lack of table service. In the mood for smoky meats and chilled libations? Bummer since I have had one before and was good. The Broccoli Cheddar soup was absolutely fantastic. The potato salad was good but the potato chunks were harder than I liked. What caught my attention was Phosphates. As a child the local dairy had a soda setup and served phosphates. So I had to go and check out the South Side Soda Shop. It was a blast from the past. We were seated immediately and got our drink order in. I got a cherry phosphate and water. I also ordered 1/2 lb of peel and eat shrimp and a Italian Hoagie. The cook got me extra horseradish for my cocktail sauce. They were great. The Italian Hoagie was exactly like an East Coast hoagie. Oil and vinegar with oregano. Topped with tomato, lettuce and banana peppers. It was amazing. My buddy got an orange phosphate and a Philly Cheese Steak which he loved. The service was amazing. The people were great. The place was packed. Wish it was open more often.

Lots of seating, both booths and tables. Interesting interior that looks like the exterior of buildings - very Americana decor.
