Seeing Queenscliff Fish and Chip Shop tempted me... and then I saw it - the big "separate gluten-free fryer" sign in the window!! That was enough for me - I was getting fish and chips! It's a cool and casual place - right by the water with plenty of tables and seats inside and out! Service was friendly and informative - they answered my handful of questions confirming that they kept gluten-free items separate... and asking about the different types of fish they offered (there are a handful of options!). We got the gluten-free version of the regular order of Fish and Chips. I added tartar sauce for dipping. Amazing! Spectacular! Just wow! I would order this every day of the week - freaking delicious!! Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS***** Gluten-free rating: *****FIVE STARS*****

We had a lovely lunch here and of course indulged in their seafood delights. I had a bowl of mussels to start followed by scallops in cheese sauce, with a bonus side of lobster tail. It was all lovely, fabulous and beautifully presented. Service is slick and professional, and overall this restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere. For me though it loses a star because their menu is one of the most convoluted and un-readable I've seen in a long time. There's about 3 different lunch menus and it's not easy to see the options available. They'd be better off doing a lunch menu and a la carte.

Plus it had good reviews on urbanspoon. It is tapas/share-plate style and I guess I'd call it Modern Australian. There were a lot of seafood options and some dishes had a bit of Asian influence. We shared 5 dishes (I think) between the 2 of us and left very satisfied. Tiger prawns in kataifi pastry with almond and honey were by far the standout. So so soooo good. Scallops with dukkah and Duck spring rolls were also really tasty. The restaurant is very well presented, but still has a casual, informal feel to it, which I liked. Service was great.

The staff is faster, more friendly and more efficient than...uh, something ridiculously fast, friendly and efficient. Properly frying food is a science. Time, temperature and technique dictate the difference between soggy/greasy and crispy/light. They have mastered the process and the results are evident in their products. This was particularly noticeable upon eating a piece of fried flake that my son couldn't finish approximately 2 hours after he'd ordered it. The batter was still crunchy and light, which is something I've rarely encountered with fried food. They also act a fish monger, selling fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Additionally they just relocated to a larger shop, and added a noodle bar. As far as the noodles go I've only had the hokkien mee so far as I figured it would be a good baseline and I'm pleased to report it was very good. This is my go-to fish and chips in Chelsea and I'm hoping it becomes my go-to noodle joint too.

Decided to try the bistro instead and got my friend to meet me there. Beautiful location, right by the water with the sun going down. The staff were young, teens to early twenties, and mostly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the salmon, it came out on a plate with a huge pile of chips. For the price I was expecting something much better. I basically paid a fancy restaurant price for pub food. The salad came later which was not even worth eating, the dressing was sugary and the leaves wilted. They could definitely lift their game food wise. It's a good place to sit by the water and have drinks, don't expect too much from the menu though.
