Said family member raved about this place, sensational steak I was told, so of course I decided to attend this birthday. I will note there was about 25 of us, so a significantly large amount of mouths to feed. May I start with the wine, quite cheap and they sure made sure my glass was never empty, this is a tick! Wait time was very excessive, as noted though a large amount of people will do this so no judgement there, I ate snails while I waited, so win for me! I ordered my steak rare with garlic sauce and veggies, it came out closer to medium rare, but that's ok, it was an ok steak, my sauce was very sweet for a garlic base but all in all it was ok. Do I think it was as good as said family member described? Gosh no, was it a good steak, sure. Will I be coming back? Defiantly not. What I will defiantly give props to and make noted is how well the restaurant handled such a large number of people, it was very organized and they kindly let everyone pay their own portion of the bill rather than dealing with the very messy who owes what situation. this gives them a lot in my opinion as when people start to get their calculator out to work out who owes what, I shudder in embarasmnet and can't really handle it.

But if you like steak and seafood then it's worth a visit. Their classic 'Steak a la Cardens' has kept drawing me back for many many years. Just choose the fillet steak option and soak up the creamy lobster prawn and seafood sauce. I love the 'seafood madras' also when I'm after a change. Think lots of scallops in a dreamy, creamy, curry. Delicious. The decor is plush, but a little dated and kitsch for my liking: lots of nautical references, it's just a little too 'finding nemo'ish'. It's changed hands only once since it opened and the new owners are lovely people, so don't let the dated decor put you off. The menu remains pretty much the same as it always was. As well as the usual steak and seafood menu items you'd expect, they offer crocodile, snails, frog legs and sword fish just for conversation starters I reckon. The quality and serving sizes always felt generous, but seemed a little less so on my last visit, so I'm hoping that was just a once off and not a sign of the times. What does crocodile taste like you ask, and is it worth ordering? Think salty chicken, and that's a YES from me.

Delightful. That is the one word to describe the experience of eating and drinking at Uni Boom…read moreBoom. I have been reading about this place for quite a while, but it is not conveniently located and the hours it is open are not particularly convenient either (I lived in L.A. for a long time, everything is alway open and its tough getting used to 3 - 5 p.m. closures), but I will go out of my way for quality food, and quality is what I kept hearing about Uni Boom Boom, and I'm so glad I made the effort. Yes, it is completely as described, in an industrial area next to a roll up garage, and yes, they have done a great job of the interior of this cafe - it does have a cafe vibe, but is done well, certainly not over the top on decor. Food and presentation is another thing. I love it when restaurants with unusual dishes offer a tasting plate, and that is what I ordered - it offered a Lychee Edible Nest Drink, which is one of the things I really wanted to try, and it was delicious and cold and served in the most gorgeous little pineapple shaped cup. They also included their foie Gras dish, also superb. Australian Uni, also very good. Braised Abalone which was tasty but more whole than braised and a small salmon sushi bite, which could have had more salmon, and way too much rice, but fabulous taste and texture ! I actually took some salmon sashimi home - the absolute best I have had in Melbourne, and thoughtfully packed with ice. I also tried their uni and salmon cones, which were very good. I also had the Peach Gum tea which was delicious, and what I loved about it was that they asked what level of sugar you wanted added. You could also have it hot or cold and choose how cold. I love drinks extra cold, and this did not disappoint. It was also served in a larger version of the pineapple cup. There is a choice of 3 deserts, all containing the Bird's Nest prosperities. The ice cream was tempting, but I went for the macaroons which also came with the birds nest tea in a clear container, shaped like a bird ! and a spoon that was heart shaped ! just delightful ! Definitely coming back and committing to a full portion of so many other wonderful things offered, especially the sashimi which looked fresh, thick and oh so tasty on a couple of the other tables. Definitely worth the drive and fitting in with their operating hours !

Inside you'll find sea urchin and edible bird's nest, two of the top 10 most expensive ingredients in the world. The exterior of The Roe can be deceptive. Customers have said they thought it's a normal warehouse walking past everyday until they heard music or chatter, walked in and realised it's a private restaurant that specialize in Sea Urchin and edible bird's nest. We wants to find the balance between keeping the metal, quirky character of the warehouse and making it comfortable. The light-filled space has been fitted with informative posters of edible bird's nest and sea urchin, acting as a experience cafe for crafting experimental sea urchin dishes. The Roe specialized in sea urchin and edible bird's nest, sourcing the ingredients from its mother companies, Pacific Sea Urchin and Sen Lin Tang (AUS) Pty Ltd. We loosely revolves around Japanese and Chinese cuisines. The menu is inspired to allow customers to enjoy Australian Sea Urchin and edible bird's nest at a relatively affordable price.

Couldn't taste any other flavour ... unless my taste buds already shot from the heat haha anyway it was "tasty" ... I'll get back to this later... Had the $35 buffet option with plate of 2 mussels 3 prawns and crab. You also get single side of Vietnamese beef salad and abalone.. (these were good). As for the seafood... mussels were fresh and of quality. As for the prawns .... hmmmm they're not king prawns which is ok and at least they're not soft and mushy when u eat it. My guess it's cheap imported frozen prawn. But heck get by. The half a crab ... it's the kind after boiling all u need to do is suck it out. Sauce station was well presented and stocked (viet influenced) there's fish sauce haha ... only gripe.... no garlic or sesame paste (my fav) only the oil. The hot pot train..... haha hey this was good!! Had very good variety of tofu, stuffed tofu, beef, balls etc.. very good range. But for what ever reason the VEGIES ARE NO WHERE TO BE SEEN!!! It's a scarce thing. This explained as soon as a dude sat down next to me before ordering soup or anything he piled up from the train anything that was vegie.. my initial thought was ... hmmmm ok he must love his vegies and scoffed a bit cus only PRC do this kinda "kiasu" thing. But he was a white dude haha Anyway he proved waaaaaay smarter than me... he was in the know!!! No vegie for me!!! The "tasty" soup, I reckon was laced with at least 1 tablespoon of msg!! I kid u not! Half way through I'm thirsty like a camel more so than ever before in a hot pot. I also started getting headaches. This I only get when there is excessive amounts of msg. Anyhooo nuff said YMMV I'll still come back to try again. Overall it was a good experience food on the train had good variety and of quality albeit lack of vegies. Oh forgot to mention the buffet had ice cream and I think it was the 3 colour drink as well (will try next time).

Fun and convenient place to eat - the chicken soup base I had could have had more flavour though. Would come back for lunch!
