As I travel, I like to try independent restaurants and stay away from chains. Stopped here since it was on the Lincoln Highway and it seemed to have some fairly good reviews on their burgers. I know it isn't 'right' to order your meat well done, but that is how I like it. Unfortunately, the burger I received was pink nearly throughout. I was able to salvage 1/4th of my burger. I wasn't that hungry, and pressed for time, so I didn't mess with sending it back. The waitress noticed and was very willing to get a new burger or remove the charge entirely; I insisted on paying, which she reluctantly agreed to (remember, she didn't want to charge me at all), but insisted on giving me a significant discount. For those of you who question why I didn't have her entirely remove the charge, since I didn't give them the opportunity to make it right, I don't feel I should have the charge removed Wait staff was very friendly and everyone else seemed to enjoy their food tremendously. If you value your health DO NOT EAT HERE This place is awful. Where to start??? Maybe with the guy moping the floors cussing up a storm. When it came it was so overcooked, and the fries were burned but limp. Only way that happens is cooked in oil not hot enough. When I told my waitress about the fries she shrugged her shoulders said "I get complaints but the kitchen says they have to mix the oils or something like that". So what that means is rather than using new fresh ingredients they just marry the new oil with the old.... Uh how old exactly is the oil that's AWFUL. Ok. I read the other reviews and I think the other diners may have been too adventurous with their orders here. I got a burger and fries. It was amazing. Clearly made with fresh beef. The bun was fresh and grilled nicely, and the fries were fresh-cut. You can't ask for more from a quaint diner burger. Ordered a side salad to start. Sad iceburg lettuce with a couple cucumber slices and a few cherry tomatoes - but I didn't expect these guys to get the salad perfect. Get the burger! read more

Good food and good service...My daughters and i ordered the Chopped Steak dinner, the Country Fried Steak dinner, the Fish dinner, and quesadillas. First, the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and brown gravy was delicious. I just wish the mushrooms on top were fresh and not canned. Also, the veggie side was definitely out of the can as well and bland. Next, my youngest daughter said that the country fried steak was good. Just a diner on the interstate in Wyoming at the upper terminus of a series of cities that stretch through Colorado (so if you're hungry, this is a good place to stop). It's near the intersection of I-25 and I-80 when you see all of the truck stops, down the main road a little bit. The service was friendly, consisting of what seemed like two overworked waitresses. Nevertheless, they were on top of it. You can also order your burger without a side and it's a little cheaper, if you don't want to feel super greasy in the car. Will not go back! I ordered biscuits and gravy with two eggs. The biscuits were soggy like they were heated up in a microwave. The gravy was nasty, I'm sure it was caned gravy. Space looks pretty humble and clean from the outside. But on the inside it's clean tasteful and a very comfortable interior. I had to classic mushroom Swiss burger with fries and it was just good comfort food like mom used to make. What really impressed me was the service level and the cleanliness. Saw some not so good reviews before sticking my head in this place. I found it to be clean and orderly! Somewhat surprising because it's part of a gas/convenience store. The wife and I decided to give it a try and were very pleased. Both the service and food was great! The coffee was amazing and fresh even though it was 6pm at night. The waitress was energetic and easily handled the six or so occupied tables. The cook even came out to our table apologizing when one of our first choices was unavailable. Came up to see the eclipse, and it was my daughter's bday. I told her diners are hit or miss. This was a HUGE miss for our party of four. $7.99 for five mozzarella sticks. Pork sandwich was a handful of meat on a burnt hot dog bun. Two ordered burgers, one the cheese and bacon was left off, yet we were charged for it and the manager made it clear it was an inconvenience to change it. The burgers were burnt meat, and cold. This place has great home cooked food. I would definitely give the food four stars. The wait staff is terrible. I walked in, and stood at the front door for about 20 min before a waiter told me I could sit where ever I want. I felt very unwelcome. I figured I'd give this place a shot. I was staying at the suites next door. It's connected to a gas station so I had my fingers cross. I think I would have ate better at the gas station. The staff is friendly but the cook had came out of the kitchen talking trash to what I guess was a waitress on her off shift/day. If it was just a customer even worse. He also looked like a big slob. So i order meatloaf and when I get it, i couldn't even cut into it. It was as hard as crouton. Horrible. The mash potatoes had no flavor. A little salt,pepper,garlic or butter would have gone a long way. The prices for that type of food is absurd. Beware if you are hungry drive an extra couple miles to one of the places near downtown. My girlfriend and I visited Cheyenne for Frontier Days and wanted to pop into Down Home Diner for some coffee and breakfast. I understood that due to the time of year and events going on that they would be busy and didn't expect that much for service. While we sat there drinking our extremely watered down coffee, I overheard the table next to us had there entire order lost and they would have to reorder their food. I then decided since everything was taking a bit longer than anticipated I'd ask for my check and pay before the food arrived just to expedite things a bit. After the waitress gave us our check and my girlfriend stood in line to pay she realized that we were given someone else's check which was much more expensive than ours. Not much of a big deal but I started to see the disfunction going on. 45 minutes after we ordered our food it arrived and of course my girlfriends food was wrong. The waitress immediately became defensive and grabbed the menu to prove us wrong. That didn't work out as well as she anticipated and she saw that it was her own mistake and the food that came out was not what we ordered. She then said we would have to wait another 15-20 min for them to remake the scramble egg skillet that we ordered. We said "No, we were not going to wait any longer". The waitress essentially stormed off pissed and saying something about how she wasn't going to rush the order because they had other customers. Finally the last bit of amazing customer service came when she walked to our table and slammed down the $23 dollars that our meal cost making us feel Extremely awkward. The only thing worse than bad food is having to pay for bad food. I'm in Cheyenne for a time with some coworkers and each one of us has had horrible experiences in our own right. I try to give a place a fair shake, so I went twice. I got the chicken fried steak breakfast, my eggs were stone cold. I went there the next day for lunch and order the chicken dinner. Not impressed. My husband and I came here out of convenience. It's located right outside of our hotel and we stopped to check out what they have. We were seated in a booty next to the kitchen. The very dirty and unsanitary looking kitchen. They had clean plates right next to dirty plates and dirty rags all over the place. The cooks were not wearing hair nets and all of them, male and female, had very long hair. Men in raggedy clothes came in and out of the kitchen frequently during our breakfast. Unsure if they were working, friends of employees, or off shift employees. Either way it was unsettling. My husband ordered an omelette and I ordered French toast with strawberries. My husband loved his omelette. My French toast was soggy and the strawberries came in a separate bowl with strawberry juice spilled all over the side. I only ate one half slice of my French toast. The only thing that saved this review from being one star is my husband's omelette and the low price. $22 "fed" both of us. read more
