Donairs were delicious! Lots of filling and it tasted soooo good. Unfortunately they didn't have any dough to make the garlic finger, So we opted for the egg rolls instead. They were pretty good. Never had a donair before but since it came recommended and authentic I gave it a shot! Can't comment on whether it's authentic or not. I can comment on the taste. And I like it! Think of it like a wrap with beef (kind of like a gyro wrap). I had hot sauce and their sweet sauce and all mixed in was good. The only issue was the beef was on the light side. It's been a long time since I've had a Donair. This yummy dish was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is now known as Halifax's Official Food! Down East Donairs makes delicious a version of it in several sizes, from the traditional pita wrap to topping a pizza, making egg rolls, or even topping poutine with it. I had the small pita wrap and it was delicious! The well seasoned meat is cooked on a vertical rotating spit and then shaved off for serving. The traditional sweet sauce is key to making it authentic! I just wish I had gotten better pictures before devouring it. I'll just have to go back! PS - They also have the best variety of soft drinks I have seen at a restaurant, with lots of hard to find, and unusual flavours, many from Eastern Canada. Sorry, no pictures. read more

Everything you'd expect from a take-away serving Nova Scotian donairs. Superb flavour, taste and friendly service. They cater from small to large appetites. I ordered the donair poutine, and although I initially thought the box looked small, it was packed and more than enough for lunch. I was also impressed with the selection of sodas you don't typically find in Ontario. Overall, a great first impression, and I shall look forward to returning again soon. read more

Ive always heard that Halifax was the Donair capital of Canadian. After reading reviews of Down East donairs on yelp and after decades of eating gyros, I decided it was time to try the down east version. The gentleman that served me was friendly, courteous and readily offered information on their menu. I ordered a medium donair. The wrap that it came in was oversized for the portion of protein, additionally it was stale. I also found that the traditional sauce that comes with the down east style was overly sweet, and didn't really play well with the rest of the donair. Just my two cents. read more

For all the down-easters who like their Donairs, this is a nice taste of home. My wife being from NB really means that she is picky to get a 'real donair'. Although there are a ton of different tastes and flavours in the donairs out east, whether in NB or NS, they all come back to the sauce. Some have a bit spicier meat, others have slimmer shaved meat sections. Here it had a nice spicy flavour on thicker sections of meat that allowed you to soak in the spices. Sauce was very authentic tasting. However of the two we got, one was missing any sauce - but things like that happen, and we had an extra cup of sauce that made it all worthwhile. Like many of the best donair places out east, the place is not much to look at, but the flavour and the sauce makes it definitely a beautiful option for those looking for the down-east taste! read more

I guess my expectations where way too high, and that might be why I can only give a 2. Pros: +meat was tasty (but wasn't cut fresh it got pulled out and weighted from a plastic container) nothing wrong with that since restaurants need to stay within margins, but it will effect the overall taste. +Fresh veggies +Price Cons: -The steamed store bought libra bread(That was cooked on top of the refried meat in a skillet, to not make your own bread fresh out the oven is what makes this a mediocre donair place. -The hot sauce which was store bought sriracha sauce. - lack of inspiration when it comes to sauces and toppings. I can't speak for the sweet sauce bcuz I have no references, I'm personally not a fan. read more

The wife and I stopped in here for Donairs out of the blue.. and the service was friendly and from Down East .. They had some Newfie Pops .. pineapple and birch in the cooler. DAM we can't believe it took us 6 years to drop in. This was the best food ever ! Fresh everything WE couldn't stop eating it .. and it had tons of vegetables and it still tasted good ! KINDA feel guilty but leaning towards some what health'ish . But It is so worth the trip downtown ! Fair price for a awesome meal ! We will be back ! I ordered a large Donar cut in half and got a mini donar as you can see with the quarter to compare. Ordered a donar pizza and it got stuck to the bottom pan it's cooked on and the guy kept touching the edge of the pizza with bowls on his counter trying to get it off the pan and the bowls that didn't look very clean. The pizza has a huge whole in it, probably why it was sticking. I didn't eat the crust to avoid any contaminats. I was happy to find this place and was going there regularly until now. My wife called and he argued with her and tried to say this was a large donar. I don't recommend them after this. They just lost a lifetime customer. read more

a very unassuming and welcoming place. I felt like I was having dinner in the owners kitchen he was so friendly. The food is fantastic, fast service, im no donair expert but these seriously hit the spot, the meat is wonderfully juicy and crispy, the sweet and hot sauce are perfectly balanced and the pita bread is served warm and soft. If you want a healthy amount of meat get the medium atleast. This is a local gem that Oshawa can be proud of. read more

Just amazing! These donairs are just like the ones from down east & I've tried many in Toronto/GTA and none have come close. I am so happy to have a place to go to get my donair fix! These are the best east coast style Donairs that I have found locally. There are only two tables, this is really a take out joint.

A real "East Coast Donair" is loaded down much more than this donair but the taste is there. The sauce although similar is not the same thick authentic sauce you get in Nova Scotia, although the taste is still there just very thin. Pricey for the amount of meat you get but so far the best I've found in Ontario. read more

$13 including taxes for an extra large Donair - total rip off. I made the mistake of looking behind the counter. All the toppings were old looking and not fresh. The lettuce was brown and wilted, the tomatoes were soft and overly saturated looking - as if they'd been there for a very long time. The meat was old looking / tasting and was heated up using a conduction plate beside the meat. So the meat was cold when you arrive and they cut off a portion and warm it for you. The pita was STALE, even after being warmed in the same pan they used to warm up the meat. The signature Donair sauce, which is typically the best part of the sandwich, was possibly the worst I've ever tried. I only just clued in that they would only make my sandwich after my debit cleared - makes me speculate that others have complained about the quality and likely walked out without paying. I complained and the lady working didn't care in the least - no apology, no offering any remedy - nothing. To make matters worse, I took 2 bites of the sandwich and was turned off by the quality and taste that I simply threw the remaining portion in the trash (the only place this 'food' actually belongs) and walked across the street to their competitors and had a fantastic lunch - Bollywood Tacos. Don't eat here. Just don't. The reviews for this place are definitely fake. There's no way this is a 4.5 star location - no way. The best part of this review? The fact that they will not change their model in the slightest bit. I'm going to go back in a few weeks to see if they gave a crap about this review.
