We were originally going to go to Pai, but since there was a line out the door because we didn't make a reservation, we ate here. The interior was fun, with the original owner's face on many different things, and there was a loud-ish mix of rock and early heavy metal. Apparently, this spot is a chain, and they used to have some US locations, but I'm not surprised they closed. We got some Cauliflower Bites for 5.49 CAD to begin. These were decent and, unlike our poutine choices, not overly salty. The little bits of fried cauliflower could have used a bit more flavor, but they worked for texture, and both of us eventually added some pieces to our poutines. My poutine of choice was the Prime Beef Deluxe, with ground beef, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and green peas, for 13.99 CAD. As a whole, the poutine was rather nasty, with the whole thing feeling wet. The watery gravy lacked flavor compared to the couple of other examples I've had before. The fries, even though they were hot and looked crispy, were limp and potatoey, and they were getting limper by the second because of the bad gravy. The cheese curds were decent, but there weren't that many of them. The beef didn't help how wet the dish was, nor did the frozen peas, with the only decent parts being the caramelized onions and mushrooms. I had maybe 60/70% of it, leaving many very wet fries at the end. The other person had the Buffalo grilled chicken with grilled chicken, buffalo sauce, creamy ranch dressing, and green onions, which was a dollar more. From the little bit I tried, the chicken was certainly better quality, though still a bit gummy. The buffalo sauce had a little bit of heat. The whole thing was extremely overdressed with the sauce, dressing, and gravy, and he had maybe half of it at most. This meal was terrible. They were both a salty mess with bad fries and worse gravy. I've had better poutine in NYC, and there are barely any Canadian spots here. Go here if you're high or drunk and therefore lack proper taste buds.

You hoped the places you went to were clean, but that's pretty much it. Now, it's different. Total transparency: the person behind the counter was extremely helpful and polite (I would guess he's the owners son). The food is delicious (I had the large Gyro). The prices are fair. And they have plexiglass barriers up and the son was wearing a mask. But sitting about 15 feet from the counter is who I'd guess was the mother, not wearing a mask. She's far away, true, but should still be wearing a mask. She then put it on and walked towards the food area behind the counter, and removed her mask, walking around the kitchen with no face covering. Again being totally honest, this happens all the time these days. Vaccinations, especially full vaccinations, are making people feel as though it's back to normal again. But with numbers again in the rise, it's pretty clear this thing ain't over yet, and seeing this type of negligence is not excusable, and is also the reason I won't go back here again. Foods great, not so much the masklessness. Otherwise would have been four stars.

It clear he cares about what he's doing and was excited to chat with us. We ordered the poutine with bacon and the butter chicken so we could try one classic style and one fusion. They have lots of sizes depending on how hungry you are, and after we picked our style and size the cook asked if we wanted our cheese layered in or put on top. Clearly layered in is the right answer and I appreciated his attention to his craft! We took a seat in the small eat-in area and our orders arrived in about 10 minutes. We were blown away! Everything about these dishes was seen to with care and they didn't skim on anything. There was tons of bacon, cheese and gravy all even distributed and the cheese was legit curds not shredded. Best of all the fries were crisp. My number one complaint with most restaurant poutine is that the fries get so soggy you're eating potato soup by the end, but these were crisp all the way to the bottom of the bowl! The butter chicken was equally crispy and well portioned, and while not a classic flavor, it worked really well. The chicken was good quality and the sauce was rich. Again, this is is a top contender for the best poutine of my life. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant.

It was one of many businesses that got me through this weird, uncertain time. For the last few months, I got myself reacquainted with Aurora. Well over a decade ago, I frequented Aurora often. I'm not sure why I stopped visiting, but it has been great returning every few weeks. While rediscovering Aurora, I have noticed this Rudy for a while. It used to be a Starbucks that I frequented often back in the day. It's also nearby a Gong Cha that I love. A couple Saturdays ago, after running a bunch of errands, I felt like lunch. I remembered this place and drove up the 404 to get here. There was plenty of parking when I got here at roughly 3 pm. I parked and walked in. I needed to use the washroom, so I made a left to use it. There are two single stalls. The door handle tells you whether it's vacant or occupied. The one that I used before and after my meal was clean. I headed over to the counter to place my order. I got Sarah, who was super patient and friendly. I looked at the combos menu. I went with the rude dude combo. The rude dude is a double cheeseburger. I got it with bacon, which meant that my burger was tattooed. I liked that I got a small poutine as the side because the poutine at Rudy's is excellent. I also got a fountain drink. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. She let me know when my food was ready. I found a table by the wall with windows. I filled my cup with ice and Diet Coke. It was so refreshing. I went back to refill my cup because I needed more of it to wash my food down. It is drafty in this eatery. Most folks had their coats and jackets on. There was a heater in the corner, which did little to heat the entire eatery. I looked at my receipt. Sarah had asked for my name. It was Marrie on the receipt. Close enough! My order was number 71. I thought that I'd hear the number called out and fetch my order. Nope. Sarah brought my food over on a tray. So nice! I thanked her and went to town eating my late lunch. My rude dude burger tasted yummy and fresh. I loved the buttery leafy lettuce, juicy sliced tomatoes, two slices of cheese, sauce, and bacon. The two smashed beef patties were flavourful and perfectly grilled. The bun was soft and held everything together. I loved being reunited with this burger! The poutine was excellent. The gravy was perfect to melt the cheese curds. The fries were perfection. It is the perfect side with the rude dude. I love that this Rudy location is in Aurora. I'll be back again for more good eats. (502)
