This place has a decent refund policy with enough advance notice, so if you are considering the Nethery Estate, book early. There are not a lot of rooms here and it appears from the pictures inside of it that groups/families tend to rent all of them for events, so it can fill up quickly. The estate is a nifty place. It is an older style home, but well kept. You park in the back and are texted a code for the gate to get in. The key to your room is left outside on the back porch and you go to your room as you would like. Definitely a colonial style home with a suit of armor next to the stairs (that's true). If you look closely around, you will see several references to Harry Potter, which my wife enjoyed finding and we looked around. Our room was awesome, with a nice couch and TV in front of it, a small table to sit at to eat, a comfy bed, and a separate bathroom with a cool tiled shower. Downstairs has a small sitting area, a bar, and another room has the long dining room table. My wife and I were comfortable walking into the place and going in and out of our room to activities as we saw fit. We did encounter some of the other guests, but only briefly. There is a small ice machine, which we used while we were there. And there is a mini-fridge next to it that guests had put in some leftovers as there aren't fridges in the rooms (which is all fine because Tiffany handles some of the cooking for you!). My wife and I went outside to hang out for a while because we had been at the zoo during the day and it was 86 degrees -- which is hot for us Oregonians for the beginning of April. We brought swim wear as the first amenity listed on Netherly's site is the salt pool. Sadly, it was not heated and still appeared to have some small branches from the property in it. It hadn't been warm enough for long enough for it to be available. The hot tub adjacent to it didn't have water, but honestly, I didn't remember anything mentioned on the website about a hot tub, so it was not anything I was expecting anyway. We can and enjoyed the back yard for a little bit, but opted to go inside and take a shower to cool off and then head out for activities. The first morning I had paid extra to have food delivered to our room. It is a good thing I put on some pants when I opened the door because Tiffany walked in to set down the food on the table for us. I've been to a couple other B&Bs and it is usually left outside, but I figured I'd not answer in the nude and that was a good idea. We were told she enters to set things up to ensure we don't eat in the bed as it is a nightmare to clean up (and I believe it). We had chopped potatoes, some waffles, and a little bit of fruit. More than enough for my wife and I. The next day we ate at the large table downstairs. We ate with a couple from France that had come to view the eclipse. Tiffany was very pleasant and talkative during that time. I cannot specifically remember all of the food, but it included more chopped potatoes, some toast, and I cannot remember what else. It was good food, though, and more than enough for me to eat. Tiffany also gave us a dessert cornmeal kind of muffin that was pretty good as well. For my personal experience, I look to the front page of Nethery's page that touts "Southern Hospitality Hotel Accommodations with a Pool" that the next page says is open in spring. summer, and fall. I don't think the site even mentions a hot tub, so no worries on that. It may not have been warm enough for the pool to really work out so early in April, but we were looking forward to having a more private pool than one found at a large hotel. The home is beautiful and sitting outside to bask in the sun is nice. Getting in and out was easy and the room we had was awesome. If you pay to have breakfast in your room, make sure you are dressed. You get generous portions and the food is pretty good! But look -- the pool thing aside, which I wouldn't want anyone reading this to make too big of a deal about as it didn't ruin any plans and wasn't the primary reason for my choosing Nethery Estate, we had a great time. My wife was very pleased that Nethery Estate was where we spent our 2nd anniversary together. It is certainly it's own experience and Tiffany is a great host, so if you are considering staying here -- book it.

MY BIGGEST FAVORITE THING was how wonderful Uncle Paul and Melissa were to my MOM and me. They anticipated our needs, wants, and desires and really focused on us having an awesome experience. They filled us in on fun things to do in McKinney, as well as Dallas. They gave us suggestions, finding yummy meals and entertainment. They checked with us to see if we had any food allergies and made yummy breakfasts every single day (YAY). Other Favorites! 1. Fancy tub 2. First-floor bedroom (we did not have to go up and down stairs), even though they have other beautiful rooms upstairs. 3. Fancy shower 4. "Secure" Wi-Fi (I hate unsecure Wi-Fi - secure Wi-Fi puts me at ease) 5. Peaceful environment (AHHHHH) 6. Nature! Plants, shrubs, trees, wood 7. So yes, I could have rented a house and been the hostess myself, but believe me, THE RED GATE INN, was the best outcome for me. The price was right on target. This vacation was an enjoyable rememberable experience for me and my Mom. 8. I GIVE THE RED GATE INN my highest rating! I give them a 120 on a scale from 0 to 100! Blessings and have a wonderful vacation!

They also give guests plenty of space and privacy to enjoy and explore the grounds and the wonderful antiques and sitting areas the Inn has to offer. The history of the home and antiques was very interesting. The Desert Rose room was perfect for our stay. The lavender bubble bath, soaking tub and huge shower was perfect after a long travel day. The bed and pillows were like sleeping on clouds. Paul and Sharon made us eggs with topping options, sausage, a fresh fruit bowl, AND pastry muffins for breakfast. Along with a special touch of a formal place setting of glasses, plates, and utensils. They offer several coffee, tea, and refreshment options. Amazing and wonderful! The Red Gate Inn is truly a gem but Sharon and Paul put it over the top. They are the epitome of southern hospitality and go above and beyond to help all their guests feel at home and have a perfect experience! Thank you both for everything. If our travels bring us back to McKinney we will DEFINITELY be back!!

I was relieved to see others noted some of the things I did while staying here. Kat T sums it up…read morewell. At first glance it looks modern, well appointed but you soon realize it seems tailored to young professionals and I'd say men that want "nice" but not experienced enough to notice what is off or even care. The pluses: location is great, so many nearby places to eat and drink and off 121. Place smells great, is nicely decorated and has some touches intended to give a higher end vibe. Staff were helpful when needed and definitely one of the pluses. Lavazzo coffee in room was great! We watched fireworks the first night from our room at nearby ballpark. Meeting areas and outdoor pool and sitting areas appeared really nice although we did not use them. Negatives: no mini fridge and I asked at desk, they said no yet i later saw one in hallway next to our room for another guest. I am a hilton rewards member so unclear why I got a no. No plugs in bathroom. AC resets when you leave and with west facing room it got hot and it was noisy. We didnt cool down until middle of the night. No complimentary breakfast. Our shower must have been connected to another as there was a rapid decrease in pressure and increase in temp when person above used theirs! Lastly, the bathroom is separated by a sliding barn door with no lock that does not go to ceiling. There is about 3 feet of open space. Therefore anyone using the restroom is heard and smelled by the other guest so ZERO privacy. The ceilings in hallway are supposed to fit with the industrial vibe but all wiring is exposed (not just air ducts) and no finish out on ceiling at all unlike other areas that were at least painted black. Not a big deal, just reinforced the idea that much is for a surface level aesthetic but not carried through to the finer details. Overall not a bad stay but for the price I think there are other hotels including Hilton chains nearby that offer better amenities. It has potential to be really nice with a few changes. Again cleanliness and staff are definitely a positive.

My original review was too long so here's the cliff notes:…read more Paid for a 1 King Junior suite No hot water in sink first night. Had to wash my face under shower water. Bedroom TV kept flickering but after multiple attempts my husband finally got it to work. Living room TV had this error message and we couldn't get it to work. Lighting and design in the rooms is terrible unless you like waking others to use the restroom in the middle of the night or walking through dark rooms to turn on lights. No working water in the whole building for a short time the next day. Later we had no hot water in our sink or shower. After maintenance came to verify they moved us rooms. But only after we were required to pack all our stuff and drag to lobby to lug back up to 3rd floor. New room had no working phone and no mini-fridge. We had no way to keep medication cold. We were never compensated for our room upgrade. Was actually told the hotel was sold out so that's why they couldn't, but the Hilton app would have allowed me to book our same room for the night. Sold out meant 30 cars in the parking lot that night. Manager has not returned our calls. Generic response via email. This is not the expectation as Hilton Honors members who at one point were Diamond members. Exposed pipes in ceiling means you can hear all of the neighbors running water at all hours. A/C unit is louder than usual hotel in a room full of concrete. Stained mattress, poorly made beds, uncomfortable beds, light switches across the room, broken fixtures, dirty showers, no dresser, no mini fridge, no working phone in room - a huge safety issue! Do yourself a favor and not stay here. Even under construction there are things about this hotel that are terrible. Design being the biggest. Photos are deceiving. The concept is modern but it feels like a low end concrete efficiency apartment lacking basic things like towel hooks, mini fridge, good lighting. The elevator doors are enclosed behind a wall with steel doors. Seems like a fire hazard nightmare. We were told there's only one way in and out of the hotel. That also seems sketchy and a safety issue.
