this place writes about how quaint and beautiful it is. it even post info about all they have to…read moreoffer like when it was a bed and breakfast. it is now only a very rundown farm . the place is not kept up. some of the grass was cut, but tall weeds were everywhere. The little pond seen in their ad, actually has a layer of scum on it. I saw a fish laying on top of the scum flopping and soon after died. probably because it couldn't get enough oxygen. the alpacas there were in a very run down pen area. there is a long 6 ft ta wooden wall in the pen area that leaning badly . it is ready to fall and is propped up with steel t post used for farm fences. They have a livestock guardian dog in the pen with the alpa's pen that does not look healthy. the entrance to the place has a dilapidated sign that is ready to fall dow. they give you a code for the entry gate. Probably because they don't want to ever meet any of their guest. They also give a code to the cabin. again so they don't have to meet you , they just want your money. The cabin was not bad, but the AC didn't work well. There were bugs in the grassy area and I was bitten many times. Run, don't walk. away as fast as you can . Their nice looking ad makes it look like a wonder place to stay. Believe me. It is not.

Jim and Rita a fantastic hosts and we always meet interesting new people, and some that we have formed friendships with. My adult son stayed in the Rose Room, while my husband and I stayed in the Cowboy Room. There was a pleasant common area outside the rooms. That evening, the hosts did a thoughtful turn-down service with chocolates, ice, and bottled water, (we stayed 3 nights but the turn-down service was only 1 night). The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary beverages. The beds were comfortable, the sheets high quality, and we slept very well. Built in 1889, the property is impressive with a lot of historic charm, beautiful lighting, and a pool and spa out back. Breakfast the next morning was lovely, and John chatted warmly with us before leaving us to enjoy our meal. Unfortunately, things became much less comfortable the following day. Connie greeted my husband and son with warm hugs but barely acknowledged me. When she did decide to speak to me it was about the breakfast the day before, which John had served, she had mistakenly made me a fruit cup containing yogurt after I had requested dairy-free food. I understood mistakes happen, I saw the yogurt and I didn't eat it, but I became concerned because I had experienced significant digestive discomfort after eating my "dairy-free" omelet. Thinking something else caused it, I ate the omelet again the second morning and experienced the exact same issue within an hour. Perhaps the veggies were cooked in butter without realizing its impact on dairy-sensitive guests. One interaction with Connie left us particularly uncomfortable. She noticed blueberries on my husband's shirt and began scolding him. When she asked what I wanted her to do about it, I told her he does his own laundry and to ask him. She then pulled my husband by the neck into her chest and said, as if speaking to a child, "Oh but they need to know someone cares about them!" I found this comment hurtful, judgmental, and territorial. After 38 years of marriage, if my husband, who is now retired, wants to help out by doing his laundry while I work full-time with orthopedically impaired students and commute an hour and a half daily, I'm going to let him. Of course she didn't take the time to learn any of this about us and instead decided to judge us! Later, in the guest common area, Connie came up and scolded my husband for not having a shirt on, then insisted on taking his stained shirt to wash--despite him explaining he had already dabbed the stain out himself. The exchange became increasingly uncomfortable, and I eventually had to step in and ask her to stop. In my opinion, she blurred appropriate boundaries. We paid $2,020 in full 8 months in advance for privacy. It is NOT appropriate to be pushy, push personal judgements, or physically pull a guest's head into your chest. Unwanted touching crosses a major line. We were also concerned about 2 visible cameras in the common area. We couldn't determine if they recorded audio, but being observed in shared guest spaces made us uncomfortable. An intermittent buzz kept going off until my husband put his shirt on, making him feel monitored. Guests should be clearly informed if cameras are present. Lastly, for Texas summer visitors: water alone doesn't replace electrolytes, let alone purified water, which was provided, but void of electrolytes. I experienced severe leg cramping and recommend bringing proper hydration supplements. Lancaster Manor is a beautiful historic property with great beds and a lovely breakfast. However, the host interactions made the stay feel awkward and tense. Hospitality requires being attentive while knowing when to give guests space--we needed less bossing, more listening and engaging conversation instead of being talked at and judged. I wouldn't mind going back to Texas but I will not be staying here when I do!

My wife and I stayed here recently for our anniversary and to catch the solar eclipse that went…read morethrough Dallas. I booked the room -- the Anthony Suite on the top floor -- a year in advance. This place has a decent refund policy with enough advance notice, so if you are considering the Nethery Estate, book early. There are not a lot of rooms here and it appears from the pictures inside of it that groups/families tend to rent all of them for events, so it can fill up quickly. The estate is a nifty place. It is an older style home, but well kept. You park in the back and are texted a code for the gate to get in. The key to your room is left outside on the back porch and you go to your room as you would like. Definitely a colonial style home with a suit of armor next to the stairs (that's true). If you look closely around, you will see several references to Harry Potter, which my wife enjoyed finding and we looked around. Our room was awesome, with a nice couch and TV in front of it, a small table to sit at to eat, a comfy bed, and a separate bathroom with a cool tiled shower. Downstairs has a small sitting area, a bar, and another room has the long dining room table. My wife and I were comfortable walking into the place and going in and out of our room to activities as we saw fit. We did encounter some of the other guests, but only briefly. There is a small ice machine, which we used while we were there. And there is a mini-fridge next to it that guests had put in some leftovers as there aren't fridges in the rooms (which is all fine because Tiffany handles some of the cooking for you!). My wife and I went outside to hang out for a while because we had been at the zoo during the day and it was 86 degrees -- which is hot for us Oregonians for the beginning of April. We brought swim wear as the first amenity listed on Netherly's site is the salt pool. Sadly, it was not heated and still appeared to have some small branches from the property in it. It hadn't been warm enough for long enough for it to be available. The hot tub adjacent to it didn't have water, but honestly, I didn't remember anything mentioned on the website about a hot tub, so it was not anything I was expecting anyway. We can and enjoyed the back yard for a little bit, but opted to go inside and take a shower to cool off and then head out for activities. The first morning I had paid extra to have food delivered to our room. It is a good thing I put on some pants when I opened the door because Tiffany walked in to set down the food on the table for us. I've been to a couple other B&Bs and it is usually left outside, but I figured I'd not answer in the nude and that was a good idea. We were told she enters to set things up to ensure we don't eat in the bed as it is a nightmare to clean up (and I believe it). We had chopped potatoes, some waffles, and a little bit of fruit. More than enough for my wife and I. The next day we ate at the large table downstairs. We ate with a couple from France that had come to view the eclipse. Tiffany was very pleasant and talkative during that time. I cannot specifically remember all of the food, but it included more chopped potatoes, some toast, and I cannot remember what else. It was good food, though, and more than enough for me to eat. Tiffany also gave us a dessert cornmeal kind of muffin that was pretty good as well. For my personal experience, I look to the front page of Nethery's page that touts "Southern Hospitality Hotel Accommodations with a Pool" that the next page says is open in spring. summer, and fall. I don't think the site even mentions a hot tub, so no worries on that. It may not have been warm enough for the pool to really work out so early in April, but we were looking forward to having a more private pool than one found at a large hotel. The home is beautiful and sitting outside to bask in the sun is nice. Getting in and out was easy and the room we had was awesome. If you pay to have breakfast in your room, make sure you are dressed. You get generous portions and the food is pretty good! But look -- the pool thing aside, which I wouldn't want anyone reading this to make too big of a deal about as it didn't ruin any plans and wasn't the primary reason for my choosing Nethery Estate, we had a great time. My wife was very pleased that Nethery Estate was where we spent our 2nd anniversary together. It is certainly it's own experience and Tiffany is a great host, so if you are considering staying here -- book it.

They also give guests plenty of space and privacy to enjoy and explore the grounds and the wonderful antiques and sitting areas the Inn has to offer. The history of the home and antiques was very interesting. The Desert Rose room was perfect for our stay. The lavender bubble bath, soaking tub and huge shower was perfect after a long travel day. The bed and pillows were like sleeping on clouds. Paul and Sharon made us eggs with topping options, sausage, a fresh fruit bowl, AND pastry muffins for breakfast. Along with a special touch of a formal place setting of glasses, plates, and utensils. They offer several coffee, tea, and refreshment options. Amazing and wonderful! The Red Gate Inn is truly a gem but Sharon and Paul put it over the top. They are the epitome of southern hospitality and go above and beyond to help all their guests feel at home and have a perfect experience! Thank you both for everything.
