Visiting malls are a favorite nostalgia, from growing up and was in town, Dover Mall was close to my hotel and figured it was worth the stop. Coming from NY State, visiting a mall where all purchases are tax free was a win. The mall itself had your typical mix of local and well known stores, and average vacancies. One level mall, for a smaller mall was clean . My two stores that are my go too are Boscvos, and Shoe Depot. Even though a smaller mall, nicely decorated for Christmas. Boscvos selection was phenomenal, recently remodeled modern store. Shoe Depot was able to find a pair of running sneakers. Service was different then I was used too, but pleased with my purchase and would visit the mall again, if visiting area. read more

If you are visiting Dover, this is a convenient place to see a movie or find a pair of shoes. I have never seen this place with lots of traffic. It is located right beside Dover Downs Casino & hotel. If it weren't for complicated (unsafe) traffic patterns, you could walk to the mall. The theater is the best part of the mall. It is clean and has lots of choices. You can see a movie for under $10. The anchor stores include Macy's, which had more employees than customers. If you want a quiet place to sit and read, the mall is it. There was hardly anyone there. read more

Gee where do I start . The lawn looks like it has not been cut in a month . You go into the mall and I bet there is a 25-30% vacancy . Especially the sears end . The food court only has 4 offerings . Was there on a Saturday afternoon and I mean the mall was very empty of shoppers . I don't quite understand why most of the entrances are closed . There is nothing like saying your not welcome here . This is your mothers mall and maybe even your grandmothers mall. This mall needs to jazz it up. There are only a few stores that keeps the crowded coming. Even the big names stores do not carry some of the most trendy or stylish clothes. For instance, what you find in the Macy's store at this mall, you will find even better and more variety at Christiana Mall. This mall has improved over the past couple of years, but is still not what it should be. The food court have 6 food places- a cheese steak place, a chicken place, a pizza place, a ice cream place and 2 Asia places. The mall have 2 pretzel places that is not in the food court. There is not much variety now. During the week there is hardly no one there but little more people during the weekend. I stopped by Dover Mall while in town. This mall is basic but has a few popular chain stores. The food court is small with a few selections to fulfill your hunger. It's easy to navigate around to find stores. Dover Mall is located near Dover Downs and DSU. There is plenty of parking for customers. I remember as a child when the Dover Mall, nicknamed the "New Mall," opened its doors in 1982. Before that time, Dover's flagship mall was the Blue Hen located just a couple miles south. Once the Dover Mall was complete it was only a matter of a couple of years, before the management of the Blue Hen Mall came to grips that it was time to give up the crown. From the Mid 80s up into the mid to late 90s the Dover Mall was keeping a solid pace and shopping fan base. During the mid 80s to early 90s this mall rocked! To bad the management doesn't realize it is now 2012, and 80s and 90s are a thing of the past! FAST FORWARD to today. All I can say is WOW...Now, I wouldn't go as far as to say the Dover Mall is dead, but it is definitely on life support. Not to sound mean, but maybe they should figure out more creative reinventing. In this case, I think that would be too much like right. It seems they prefer to spend valuable dollars on providing out of shape mall security guards with Segways! Yes, "Paul Mart The Mall Cop" Segways in a mall in which it takes about four minutes for the average person to walk from end to end. Most of the stores are more of what you'd find in your local Flea Market, than that of a structured shopping mall. I don't know. Maybe the Dover mall is a reflection of the town itself. From late childhood to High School graduation, GO RIDERS, Dover was my hometown. When I return to visit friends and family that still live there, I almost get depressed at how the town has slowed to the pace of an old turtle. So sad to see this mall rapidly dying. Was in JCPenney & Boscovs yesterday barely anyone in either store shopping. In Boscovs it was quite difficult to find a salesperson to answer some questions I had. Personally I'm hesitant on ordering online with in store pickup because I don't know if the store will still be open. Dover mall isn't the worst mall I've been to but it was pretty corny. The mall wasn't too far from the hotel and when we looked it up, they had Forever 21 so we figured it was worth checking out. There's not really a good, vast selection of stores here and it was surprising that even stores that I usually shop in (Forever 21, Charlotte Russe) had very limited items to my liking. The items were very plain, dull, and boring. I felt like I was searching for days. It seemed like they just don't get many trendy items shipped to that mall. Dover Mall was very sub-par, however being the mall-rat that I am, I of course gave it a fair chance. There were several stores, though the mall itself looked very drab and depressing. In the Boscov's, I found it so interesting that it had its own little restaurant. I didn't stop to eat there, but I've never seen that before. The one thing that really took me aback was the hypodermic needle disposal bin in the women's bathroom... According to my fiancé, one is also in the men's room. I've never seen that before anywhere else, and that put me off a bit, admittedly. They must have had a problem with discarded dirty needles I assume, which is unbelievably scary. I therefore am glad a disposal system was put in place. It was not worth going to the average person, but still worth going to as a shopping mall seeker. read more

This mall is very small and a bit outdated but it has certain department stores that I go to. I also love The Children's Place is located there because driving to Concord Mall isn't convenient. The Japanese restaurant in the food court is the worse food I have ever had in the mall but I will leave the detailed review for that specific restaurant. I remember growing up, this mall was the place to be. There was a wide selection of stores and everything you needed was there; whether it be party supplies, a dressy/trendy new outfit, that book you were looking for, decent lunch, a good cup of coffee, a sit-down/eat-in restaurant, or to watch a movie with your friends in a comfortable, clean environment, Dover Mall supplied it. But now? Now it's an absolute hot mess. Nothing has been truly updated. It's become quite sad to see somewhere that used to be really nice in its current run-down, worn out state. Half the stores have cleared out, new, mostly worthless stores have come in with outdated/overpriced merchandise, the food court contains worse than your average food court fare, the movie theater looks, feels, and smells like the color brown. The restrooms are filthier than a train station bathroom. Want to use the main entrance? Well, you've got to survive it first! There's always a nearly unbearable haze of cigarette smoke obscuring the entrance because the Dover mall allows patrons to smoke directly in front of it -- SUPER appetizing while you're walking into the food court, because who doesn't want emphysema with their knockoff Chick-Fil-A? Once you've gotten your lifetime's worth of secondhand smoke, you can make your way through the corridors full of half-empty storefronts and sketchy looking cliques of college kids while you attempt to find an open store that holds any semblance of what you're attempting to find. It's like walking through an active drug deal now (which, most times, you probably are). In summary, the place has gone to pot. We only go there if absolutely every other store in the Dover area doesn't carry what we're looking for -- 99% of the time, we still leave empty handed. I'm almost hoping that the place shuts down so that someone better can come in, take it over, and fix this dump. A Dick's and a Forever 21? Really? That was Dover Mall's "big" renovation. Oof. Don't waste your time and hard earned money in the hood. The beach is a little further of a drive, but they have just about everything at the outlets in Rehoboth with restaurants and well-maintained facilities all around. read more

This is the worst mall I have seen in my life. It's a shame because I'm from Dover and I try to support my hometown but there is really very little positive to say about this mall. It closes at 9, there is no arcade for teenagers to hang out at any more (I loved it mysleft when I was a teen), the "food court" has 6 little restaurants, parking is ridiculous and there aren't a lot of stores to shop at. Dover Mall is clearly aspiring to join the Blue Hen Mall on Labelscar.com's list of defunct malls. Numerous small malls around the state have closed since the late 1980s - Dover is just a bit late to the party, as its decor, parking lot, and store selection clearly haven't been updated since the 1980s. Several stores have either already closed or are closing soon - the Coffee Beanery and Chick-Fil-A, to name but two of them. It doesn't appear as if retailers are lining up to replace them, either. One storefront is occupied by a fly-by-night rug and jersey dealer who hasn't even invested in shelving or a sign for the store. This particular retailer would be right at home at the New Castle Farmer's Market, which is about the quality level the Dover Mall will be hitting in a few short years. Odd, though, because the New Castle Farmer's market is packed - but this place is desolate, especially on weeknights. read more

There are actually stores that I like such as Sears and Bosco's and that place that sells sporting goods, but I'm not much of a mall-man. I haven been here in years, maybe 10. Even then the mall felt like it was in decline. It was clean, and the sales people were super friendly, but the place seems a little depressing. Most of the stores here you can find in anywhere in the US. I didn't see any store here that made this mall seem special. It's pretty small , but seems to service the needs of the area. All I can say is WOW! Have you seen what they have done with this place. In the last year alone, the food court is almost filled, they added a Men's Wearhouse, Dick's Sporting Goods is under construction and Rue 21 Opened. The rumors is that Forever 21, Torrid, Justice and Franchesca's are all coming soon. If that's true then this place has turned the corner and is heading in the right direction. The Dover mall is the only one reasonably close to everything. That being said, it is THE worst. It is really ghetto. I've seen cops arrest people in and outside of the mall on more than one occasion and have even witnessed a shoplifter running out of the mall into a getaway car, stolen merchandise in hand. The theatre is gross and people who hang out here are so sketchy. Even if I need to come here, I will put it off until I can go to the Christiana Mall. The stores are awful, there are maybe a few good ones like Victoria's Secret, but for the most part there is no where even desirable to shop for me. They added a Dick's, which is nice, but only if you don't venture into the actual mall. My idea of hell would be working in this mall because I get depressed every time I take a step in here. If you absolutely have to go somewhere in the mall and you know you'll be in and out- go for it. Otherwise, skip it because it's not worth it- especially if you're looking for a nice day of shopping. And if you need to come here, come here in the morning because it gets worse as the day goes on. And skip the theatre all together because it's not worth whatever movie you want to see. read more

This mall may not be the best in the world but it's the closest one to me and it has all the stores I need in it. From Victoria's Secret, fye to Old Navy. Other reviewers mentioned it being outdated. Yes, I will agree on that. However, something about it obviously continues to have people come back. There are always other options for malls in the state. So if you don't like this one, simply don't visit. My 4 year old loves this mall and that is saying something. We took her to the old mall in Dover for fun one day and her reaction was, "Uhhhh..." (I vaguely remember visiting the Blue Hen Mall but what I do remember from my visits are the fountains.) So as a parent, her loving to go to this one is enough for me. I especially enjoy going around Christmas time. This mall has a super awesome set up for Santa and again, my 4 year old loved every bit of her visit with him. Our experience was also wonderful, so we'll be making it a point to go back every year to see him. As for the food court, we very rarely visit that section, so I feel I cannot give a true opinion on it. I did like it back when there was a Chick Fil A still there. However, Chick Fil A has opened up a store just a few minutes north of the mall. So no complaints there. This location also has a movie theater. I'd honestly say it looks more outdated than the mall itself. I'm hoping to see some renovations or improvements in the future for that section. If I had to request anything, it'd be this: update the arcade games in the arcade and put a fountain in somewhere. Kids love fountains. When people think of malls, they tend to think of themselves. I really like this Mall, I know that there are bigger and more excessive Malls out there but I like that this one is one of quality. It's great to see new stores of quality like rue 21 & Dicks being opened, I also like that they have a Subway and a Salad Works to offer healthier dining selections while waiting to catch a movie at the On-Site Movie Theater. My family and I enjoy our visits here and hope to do so for the foreseeable future. read more

Was travelling from out of town and visited Dover Mall. I was definitely impressed with the service and the cleanliness of the mall. I live in the Baltimore area and although we have many malls to choose from, the service staff isn't always up to par. Also, as a new mom, the public restrooms were very clean!!! I am apalled at the baby changinig tables and their lack of cleanliness elsewhere. But these changing tables were some of the cleanist I've seen! Way to go Dover Mall! read more

I have to say reading the reviews. Most of the people who reviewed this mall are from out of the Dover area. Most from out of the state. They have to take into consideration Dover is NOT a large city in a Large state with big paying jobs like in most of what they may be used too. It is a smaller mall but has what you need when you need it normally. They have great events once a month for the kids. You pay $5.00 for the whole year and they get to come to fun events that are kid friendly. If you come on a Friday or Saturday night you will find lots of Collage and High school students. But Security to watch them. They have a no public display of affection, policy and do not let them loiter. People need to understand in small areas like this there is not to many other places for them to hang out. During the day even on the weekends we do not see much of them.
