When I needed a car that my elderly parents could get in I checked AARP for cars that were senior friendly. I was delighted to see the VW Tiguano listed. I went straight to Douglas Motors and Isaac Bunton who sold us our GTI a couple of years ago. And that was such a good experience I wanted to go back there. I was lured to this dealership a few days ago from someone stating they did special financing and they had a program based on your income not your credit. When I got there it was a different story because I know I make more than enough to finance a vehicle. After being there for an hour of them asking me to be patient they are working on it, I was told there was nothing they could do for me and I would need a co signer after I already expressed that wasn't a possiblity . after I left credit karma alerted me I had been run through 11 different banks , that's not only excessive its abusive for someone with already damaged credit. I am now dealing with the aftermath of that. read more

Do not buy a car from them. They lied to me and swindled me. I was a sucker for listening to them and giving them my business. Here are the specifics- Right from the start, Douglas Volkswagen lied to me. The salesperson lied to me and said the car had been accident-free. 1) I quickly realized that the different parts of the car were not even the same color, due to the undisclosed accident and the need to replace large portions of the car. 2) Kurt Steger then sold me insurance that he promised would cover the car from bumper to bumper (photo attached of this promise), but every time I came in to get it fixed, Douglas finds some excuse why they have to charge me and why they will not fix what they promised. More on this below. 3) As I drive out of the lot, the license plate falls off because they had just wedged it on. No screws. No bolts. Luckily, I heard it hit the ground and I turned back in around in their lot to fix it. 4) When I return, I realize they gave me a license plate that expires April 15th. They gave me the plate on April 18th. 5) Also, when I drove off the lot initially, the front seat arm rest instantly falls apart. 6) They sold off my cell phone number, either through the insurance or through my purchase of the car. I never give out my number, but for some strange reason, I trusted Douglas Volkswagen and now all sorts of Volkswagen and Volkswagen affiliates call me. I have no proof that it was Douglas that sold off my contact information, but given all the calls are associated with VW and began after I bought the car, it seems likely that it was Douglas. 7) Each time I bring the car back in to get it fixed, they charge me a "diagnosis fee". This is completely inconsistent with the "bumper to bumper" coverage (photo attached of this promise) I was promised by Kurt Steger. 8) In September 2012, my driver side window failed completely. In trying to get the window to go up, the window shattered inside the door. 9) When they replaced the window in the door, Douglas Volkswagen severed the electrical connection in the door leading to the gas cap and trunk. I couldn't get the gas pump lid open and therefore couldn't fill up with gas. Again, I had to come in and drop off the car. 10) In April 2013, once again, the window would not go up. This time, the window did not shatter inside the door, but had to come back in..... again... and again.... and again. 11) In June 2014, the airbag symbol came on. Douglas Volkwagen has refused to fix that, despite "Electrical" being clearly included as part of my insurance coverage. 12) I came in to get a head light fixed. In a brief moment of honesty, Douglas tells me that the headlight is actually not the problem, but rather the electrical connection to the headlight which they fixed. However, Douglas immediately reverted to their awful ways as the headlight went out again within a week. Douglas still has not fixed that connection. Once again, "Electrical" is clearly included as part of my insurance coverage, but Douglas does not stand by their word. 13) Given that the car is full of replacement parts from the accident prior to my ownership, those parts are now peeling paint, which Douglas refuses to fix. Douglas's business practices have been underhanded and despicable. read more

I have been also a Douglas customer for 6 years. They did good work on my older Jetta. I ended up buying a new GLI. The first service visit was good. Then they changed service managers. The service manager I've been working with was replaced with a new manager named Brian Ardente. The good customer service left with the old service manager as well as transparency. I told them my sunroof was making a squeaking sound while opening. I was informed that the sunroof frame would need replacing without much reason as to why. I brought in my car, and two days later, the sunroof frame was replaced. As a result of this work a noticeable and audible rattle formed as the sunshade now was hitting the sunroof assembly over minor bumps (the rattle was extremely noticeable over the bumpy roads in North NJ). The initial returning of the car saw the sunroof leaking water and not being aligned at all with the body of the car. They told me this was adjusted (which it was) and that the rattle was also gone because of this. I took delivery of the car a second time, still the noticeable rattle when the sunshade is open. I brought the car back, a third time, and i received an eye roll from Brian the service manager telling me to notice how many miles they put on the car test driving it. I took him for one ride and he heard the rattle immediately. They took the car back in and worked on it for 3 days. When i finally received my car, the rattle was there, along with two rubber stoppers that served no purpose what so ever. He also told me the rattle was similar to other cars they had on the lot. To prove this to myself i test drove other Jettas and GLIs, no rattle. Feeling helpless i called VW of America to complain. They called Douglas VW who told them almost all of the rattle had been removed and that it is a normal sound. He also told VW of America the line about it being the same as the other cars. As a result i am taking the car for a paid second opinion to another VW dealer and will no longer be taking my car to Douglas VW Service. Essentially once the dealer did the work, which was paid under warranty, it never at one point disassembled the headliner again to see where the rattle was coming from. I am truly disappointed in the lack of accountability at Douglas VW after being such a loyal customer. read more

"WARNING!! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALER - REGRETFULL EXPERIENCE!!" These guys seem to post a lot of fake reviews to mislead their customers. I have been leasing two vehicles for the last eighteen years from different dealers and never had a problem until I leased with Douglas Volkswagen. I was enticed by their 2014 labor day weekend specials on VW Jettas. I was currently leasing a VW Passat and the lease was nearly up, so I decided to take a 3 years lease with Douglas Volkswagen and since I was a repeat VW customer I expected the standard trade-in benefits of milage and wear & tear. Everything was quiet until in late December 2014 I received a bill from Volkswagen corporate requesting payment for wear & tear and late fees, this was the first time I was alerted to the problem. I reached out to the dealer to inquire about this and was told to basically go pound sand. Then I reached out to Volkswagen Customer Care and was told that the dealer usually takes care of these fees (so again, go pound sand). Next I filed a complaint with the better business bureau (bbb.org) and sent a copy of my complaint via email to the president Peter Liebman of Douglas Volkswagen and I never received an acknowledgement or response (again they don't care for my repeat business - so go pound sand). It cost time, aggravation and un-expected expenses. So the labor day savings turned out to be a drastic expense so its safe to say I will never do business with Douglas Volkswagen ever again as they refuse to work out anything with me. I can only share my negative experience in the hopes that they can't victimize others. Update 5/23/2015 - The better business bureau contacted my with a settlement offer from VW Douglas and I accepted the terms only to find out that they needed to close the complaint as resolved and not live up to their commitment. I just received a bill from VW Credit indicating refusal from the dealer. read more

I went to their garage to have my car checked because my 2007 Passat airbag light is on. A mistake I made was that I also mentioned a few other small issues that my car had and asked them to look at. The guy receiving me gave me a blanket quote of 235 upfront for diagnosis ONLY, without breaking down into items, which I should have insisted. At 11 am they called me and told me there need some rewiring for that airbag fix, and the total for that alone upped to 320 plus. Grudgingly I agreed to the work done--tell me about the information asymmetry here. Bottom line is, at end of day, I paid 670 for the whole order, including an oil change, tire rotation, pollen filter replacement, fixing a loose clamp of the exhaustion system, after a 10% discount. And the window problem I asked them to look at still got unfixed. Overall, I am happy with their loaner car, a GTI, almost new, free concession at the waiting area, generally decent environment and staff, but unhappy with the lack of transparency with the airbag problem. Seems to me they swept every unexplainable charges under that carpet. I don't have evidence but can't stop feeling that way. For this reason, a two star. read more

I have been a loyal customer at another VW dealership for the past three years. The only reason I came to Douglas was to test drive the car the other dealership didn't have and wasn't too enthusiastic on helping me with. My original plan was to test drive the car with the intention of selecting one I was going to lease. However, to my utter surprise I really liked a totally different car which was a drastic departure from the Jettas I have had over the past five years. Not only that but the car I like was only available for purchase and not a lease which was another first for me. Given all of those factors to say that I was hesitant would be an understatement...and that is where Douglas VW really shined. I was working with Vlad V who pulled the car out of the show room for me to drive and seeing my hesitation offered to arrange for me to keep the car over the upcoming weekend so I could see if it's something I really wanted to commit to. I have never had a sales person go that far to help a customer make a decision. It completely sealed the deal for me. I came back after keeping the car for the weekend and was in love with it. But there is still was an issue of buying and the price of course. While I was dreading the next few hours they turned out to be actually fun. Vlad helped me get a price I was comfortable with and was infinitely patient with all my questions. While by the time I made up my money the dealership was closing they stayed open for me and got their people to detail the car so I could take it home that evening. My financial manager Chris was a pleasant surprise in and of itself. He didn't attempt to feed me any bullshit, explained all my options clearly, made his suggestions/recommendations and let me to making my decisions with no pressure. He went above and beyond working with my budget and if it wasn't for his final touches I probably wouldn't be enjoying my Baby Bug today. Overall, who knew that car shopping could be fun and non-threatening. I absolutely felt that those people had my interest in mind and weren't driven by bare profit. read more

On a road trip from Boston to New York this past weekend, my car suddenly started vibrating and I knew something was wrong. I was headed for a brief stop in New Jersey and looked up the closest Volkswagen dealership. I have owned five Volkswagens and believe the dealerships are always the best place for service. Prices are usually fair and nobody knows Volkswagens better than the dealers. As it was a Saturday, I was nervous that no dealership would even be open. Luckily, Douglas Volkswagen was not only open but their service department was working. The service manager, Brian Ardente, spoke to me on the phone and told me he would make time for me to get my car in there. Once I got to the dealership, everyone was incredibly friendly and professional. The service team immediately looked at my car and gave me their diagnosis. They offered to find me aftermarket parts to save me some of the cost of repairs and even gave me a free loaner since the repairs would take a couple of days. Brian was in touch with me as promised and tried to be as optimistic as he could about the costs/severity of the repair without misleading me, which I appreciated. I never doubted that they thoroughly tested, fixed and re-tested my vehicle. I picked up the car on Monday and it drives great. It's scary enough to have your car malfunction while you're driving at a high speed on the highway but to have it happen when you're far from home (and your usual dealership) makes things way more stressful. Rich, the Douglas GM, and Brian did everything they could to make me feel taken care of. I couldn't recommend this dealership more wholeheartedly. Thanks, guys! read more

Due to job circumstances it took another 5 months for me to drive one off the lot, but my sales rep (Jeremy Gutierrez) took care of me from day one. I cannot say enough about Jeremy, who was knowledgeable, friendly, and always responsive. I got a great deal with zero hassle and no games, and Jeremy even went out of his way to arrange for me to get into a 2011 model instead of a 2010 as originally planned. I truly could not have had a smoother, more pleasant experience. i have been a loyal customer to not only vw, but douglas vw for the last 10 years. i recently purchased a CPO 2012 Jetta with 30k miles on it with an extender 3yr/36k mile warranty. ive brought my car to the dealer 3 times since i got my car about 40 days ago. all for this reason! first time it was there for 5 days they said the problem was fixed...picked it up and it was still making the noise 2nd time brought it back 5 days later and they kept it for a full week and over the weekend...said it was fixed and of course it wasnt heard it the day i picked it up 3rd time i brought it back and they didnt believe me about the noise. my actual salesman confronted me calling me a liar and wanted to go for a ride so he could hear it. we went for a ride and his face had a shocked look and said okay i believe you i hear the noise and that doesnt sound right. the shop tech said its not fixed to our liking and we need to keep it for the weekend...then the week..then the next weekend...2 full weeks later (15 days) and i get the call saying its fixed. i ask what the problem was and what they did and they couldnt answer...gave me the run around. he said give it a couple days and call back if any issues. the day i got the car back i heard the noise and have been hearing it every day since...the car was also in the shop due to a sunroof malfunction i called my service tech and he flat out said, im sorry i dont know the noise your talking about and theres nothing i can do....but hows the sunroof? we worked really hard on that i called my salesman and said can you have the service manager call me and i never got a call back. i called my service tech and requested same thing...no call back. i finally called vwoa and explained it to them. the woman sounded sincere and said she would reach out to douglas vw. she called me back and said that the service dept claims there is nothing wrong with the car, no noises and that its performing extraordinary. she said call douglas and ask for the manager, hes expecting your call and request a tech drive along with him. replicate the noise so he can hear it and then give me a call back and i will call them to see what the next step is. my car has been in their service dept more than i have had it in my driveway the ride along is tomorrow evening and i will update everyone. douglas vw should be ashamed. read more

Bought a 2011 Jetta at Douglas 3years ago. I have had problems with the service department from day one. When you need to make an appointment you have to leave a message and then wait home for hours to get a call back. When you call to see if your car is ready you have to leave another message and then wait hours for a call back. Today I called service for an emergency. Still waiting for a call back 70 minutes later. At first I spoke to the receptionist,explained to her that I really needed to speak to some one. She said if someone answers the call if not I would have to leave a message. So I did and still waiting. I have purchased 2 vw's from them. First a Eos and then the Jetta. When Douglas had the Ford dealership down the street I bought 4 fords from the dealership. I'am buying a volkswagen cc for myself next month,but it will not be from Douglas,and I'm still waiting for that call back from service. read more

I give no stars if I could. I bought a car there back in December. The car is in the shop more then I'm able to drive it. I have had two bearings replaced need electrical work on the car. The oil wasn't properly change when I purchased the car it was filthy. Also have all tires cupping and they changed one tire to New but when I asked for all the tires to change they just keep ignoring me when I call. Nobody wants to help. The tires should have been changed and all these shouldn't have happened. The car is one year old I bought it used but these problems if they car about their customers would help me out and at least change the tires it's not going to break the bank for them. The continue to ignore my calls and ignore me period. Not a way to run a business when I run a business and it's all about the customers!! I know because the business I run is a home improvement businesses and I always take care of my customers!! Do not buy anything g from there ever! Also needed my rotators cut and I need new breaks all this stuff there so called "excellent" service department should have checked out. They just want to take your money and not help. All I ask for is the other 3 tires that would be replaced. read more

As a follow up to my previous review in 2012, I purchased another VW vehicle- a 2013 Tiguan a few months later. Throughout the last year, I went to Douglas VW for my 10k/20k mile maintenance, it was done with no hassle at all with all costs covered by VW since I purchased a new vehicle. More recently, I was having issues with the way it was driving. I brought it in to Dominic to check everything out- little did I know I was driving with a huge nail in my tire. I have the upgraded package of tires on my car (19 inch rims), so I immediately was dreading the costs in my head. Dominic came back and noticed that when I purchased my car, I did accept the road hazard pkg. I was excited to know that I will not be bleeding money and that it was completely covered. Dominic also pointed out a safety issue that could've been a more serious problem down the line, and immediately fixed under warranty. I will keep coming back to this dealership for all of my future needs. Dominic always goes above and beyond for not only me, but for the friends and family that I refer to him. 5 stars for Douglas and Dominic! read more
