I was recommended by two different sources to visit Dr. Wall for oral pain management. This, paired with other positive reviews online, left me very perplexed about my experience. I went in with extreme pain localized in multiple areas of my mouth. Right away, I could tell that Dr. Wall was more inclined to fit his assumptions than to properly investigate the issue. I came in with teeth that experience extreme discomfort and abnormal pressure when they touch. They also consistently ache and have sharp shooting pain even at rest. The pain has been there a while, but the abnormal pressure arose immediately after getting a filling shaved down. After I paid $450 for the consultation, his solution was for me not to touch my teeth for two weeks and he told me it was all in my head. This was despite being told that the issue of my teeth not fitting right can be traced back to the filling being shaved down. Instead of properly investigating, he just sat there with a "no, I know what I'm talking about" smile and said this is what he does for a living. After waiting the two weeks, I went in again, with some mild improvement in the constant ache I had, but no improvement in the intense pain or the abnormal pressure. The solution? Wait another six weeks. This next appointment, I came more prepared. I went to another bite specialist and got a full 3d scan of my mouth along with an occlusogram. The results of which were pretty much exactly what I had been feeling and thought was the problem from the beginning. My teeth are hitting on the inside of the cusps, leading to the abnormal pressure and improper bite force distribution. Dr. Wall assured me numerous times that my bite was no issue and that I still need just need to keep my teeth apart. Well, both the other doctor and multiple online sources say this is not the case. Considering I now have multiple new areas in my mouth that are problems now, including new Abfraction Lesions, a Tooth that has visibly been pushed forward, loose teeth, and a chipped tooth. I would say his assessment was beyond negligent. Especially since I have seen near zero improvement on my pain while under his care. Other than the pain, this kind of damage was my primary concern and why I went in to Dr Wall in the first place, however instead of addressing my concerns, he made an assumption and told me over and over that it was all in my head. During all of this, I had a degenerating and torn labrum and femoral impingement in my hip, as well as stairstep retrolisthesis and Bertolotti's syndrome in my lower back; my teeth constantly hurt more than both of these conditions, the pain being unbearable at times, making it impossible to work on anything productive. This was told to Dr. Wall and he still made the assessment that it was all in my head. I have now gotten hip surgery to repair the torn labrum and femoral impingement and my teeth hurt more than the surgery, Dr. Wall has left me in this level of pain for months now, claiming there was no issue with my bite and that it was all in my head the entire time, even going as far to recommended a therapist to teach me how to deal with the pain. In addition to not getting treatment for the issue I went in for, I was also told to hold off on getting other fillings done as they might cause more sensitivity. I now only have two months left on my parents' dental insurance to deal with all of my issues. The waste of multiple months of my extremely limited time is extremely significant and frustrating. And now, due to having to have hip surgery, I may not be able to get all of the dental work needed as I can't physically go and find multiple providers. Going Dr. Wall was a waste of time and money. ChatGPT provided a far better diagnosis and treatment plan when I sent it the Occlusogram. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Wall's over 15 years ago. Jobs and family took me to the east coast, and then to Northern California. None of the dentists I went to in either place was anywhere near as good as Dr. Wall! He explains everything. He has a gentle touch and his office staff, front office as well as hygienists, etc. were all friendly, professional and very, very good at their jobs. I see from the comments that this is still true. Twice when I was Dr. Wall's patient I had serious dental issues after business hours. I called his service, and Dr. Wall called me back promptly and even returned to the office to treat me. I live on the Central coast of California now, and I need a dentist. I'm giving him a 3 because my wife and daughter love him. I no longer go to him because in all the times I've been there he hasn't done any work himself. This guy is the referral king. He consults you and then refers you to a specialist in Bellflower or a specialist in Costa Mesa. I have an appointment for my daughter this afternoon with somebody else he referred her to. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy and the office staff is top notch but I honestly believe this guy makes his living on referrals. I went in for a tooth that had been killing me for days. I made an emergency appointment. Went in thinking I was finally going to get some relief. That was before he referred me to a specialist 14 miles away and the soonest they could see me was 3 days later. If you've ever had a serious toothache you know 3 days feels like 3 months. I am not trying to be critical, but if you're in pain and you're expecting to go in to get something handled on the spot, then you might want to look elsewhere. I have been a patient of Dr. Wall since 1985. He's the best dentist I've ever had, and I've been to several over the years. I notice that his staff have all been with him for many years, and that says a lot. To the person who didn't like that Dr. Wall refers to other dentists, all I can say is, he refers to specialists. My wife has difficult teeth, and while Dr. Wall and his hygienists can maintain her teeth, for some issues, she needs a specialist. It's very common practice for general dentists to refer to specialists. The thing is, every time I've been referred out, the experience has been excellent. Dr. Wall is well known in the profession, and I've never come across a patient that didn't like the care they received. Having grown up in England I hate dentists. Fortunately for me I was highly recommended to Dr. Douglas Wall. He has been my dentist for the past 4 years. He is the most patient and gentle dentist I have ever experienced. I am in the midst of having a dental implant and 3 crowns. The temporary bridge I am wearing until all work has been completed is perfect. No one would ever know it is a bridge. I am very confident when I smile. I could not love this practice more! The office staff is so so SO amazing! I left my previous dentist because every time I called in they had trouble finding my file etc even though I had been going there for years. There was also always a new person working... very high turnover. With Dr. Wall's staff, it is quite the opposite! I love that they (politely) remind you of appointments via phone call and/or email. I arrived to the office yesterday and rather than signing in the woman at the front already knew my name and was so sweet. Dr. Wall must be treating his staff right because they seem so happy and do not have a high turnover rate. Knowing the staff is happy makes me happy to give them business. The dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth is the sweetest woman ever. She made me feel like I was one of her friends just hanging out. I usually hate the dentist but this staff honestly makes it enjoyable. As for Dr. Wall, he is great too! I read another review saying that he is the "referral king" and I'm sad that was written because it seems that was just contextual. I have had Dr. Wall perform ALL of my dental work since going there. This is also true for my fiancé, his mother and his sister. I assume he makes referrals for work that is beyond his scope of practice? Which I respect! I wouldn't want him performing procedures he isn't comfortable/familiar with.
