We needed a 30,000 mile transmission service and oil change in our Fleetwood Jamboree RV. We had also returned from a trip that we were having issues with the battery staying charged. It was an evap sensor, but also the cable to battery we had just had repaired from somewhere else was not working properly. Not only were they quick, the price was very fair. These folks had my car for six months. I never received a single phone call letting me know it was done and ready. I called them once a month until after six months, it was ready. I was charged $700. Three times...$700. I paid over the phone and asked if I could pick it up on Saturday. They said that was fine and the keys would be under the floor mat. I went to pick up my car, it had two flat tires and a dead battery. I aired up my new tires and jumped the battery. I didn't make it one block before the check engine light came on and it stalled. It runs like crap and I clearly got ripped off by Douglas Automotive! read more

First timer! I was a little surprised by the long dirt road to get here, definitely hesitant. I was surprised when they told me the issue, they didn't try to sell me a bunch of stuff I don't need! If I go to Midas, they tell me I need new everything basically. Partly like they say it's because I'm a girl and don't know much about cars. They were honest and gave me options of what I wanted to purchase. Even better they finished it in a couple hours! The lobby is cozy and they have a little heater which is nice in these chilly mornings. They offer you something to drink while you wait, along with friendly conversations. Been to Douglas Auto multiple times with our various vehicles. Bob's an honorable guy and his daughter Jean is kind and has grown well into her position. I grew up wrenching my own cars, trucks, race cars, attended the Plymouth Automotive Troubleshooting contest in high school ('72-'73) and used to bracket race my Chevelle at Tucson drag way on weekends. Also, would hang out at Speed Sports race shop here in Tucson where Ol Noisy evolved and which now resides in the drag racing hall of fame. Yeah, I have some good knowledge of automotive mechanics. For years I did most of my own work but now with my age and the evolution of the computer chip in vehicles I often must "farm out" things. Been to a few different shops over the years, and LOVE how some try to get "over" on me with their speak and pricing. Nice try guys LOL but, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I know most shops don't like you to bring in your own parts and they won't warranty them if you do, most simply refuse such work and yeah I get it as I'm in a business too that sells parts. But Douglas doesn't mind when I do bring my own and they don't "step on" the labor cost to try and make up for lost profit on them. Sure, I've have them supply parts before but often I prefer to chase down the part myself and they are understanding about it. (I would highly recommend for most people to have them supply parts for the warranty.) The road out there is rather rough but getting better due to nearby development, anyway...drive real slow so you don't "hammer" your suspension. Their pricing is competitive and with how they operate I don't mind telling folks they are a competent and honest shop. read more

I have gone to Douglas Automotive for a few years now. I had to purchase a newer used 2000 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton truck only 114,000 miles last year and at that time had the extra money to go over my truck for any repairs it may need and asked Douglas Automotive to fix what ever the truck needed just to make sure everything was up to speed, brakes front end alignment shocks transmission etc. Several months ago I still seemed to notice a vibration going down the highway and a jerking motion at 45 when truck was shifting. I took my truck back to Douglas Automotive and was told I needed to replace the U-joints and carrier bearing and balance the drive shaft and a few other things. I made and appointment dropped off the truck and when I called for the status the next day they had not even started on it. Needless to say they had my truck for over a week. That was in January of this year. My truck never leaked any fluids but the other day I noticed several fluid spots on my carport floor by the driveshaft and a substantial leak coming from the drive shaft. Called Douglas Automotive and asked them take a look. Well come to find out they did not replace the seal on the drive shaft when they had the driveshaft out for the repairs. Any knowledgeable automotive shop would know to change the seal. Granted they did not charge me for the seal on the work order but now even though it was their mistake they won't honor the warranty and want to charge me another 120.00 to fix it. I was also told that the truck is an older truck and could develop a leak anytime. I take very good care of my vehicles and paid them a lot of money to fix it. I was not able to leave the truck at that time and was told to bring it back when I had more time. I took my truck to two other shops to verify the leak and was told that Douglas Automotive should have replaced the output seal and that the truck had been leaking for sometime. I also took pictures to show them as well. The other shops said that Douglas Automotive should make it right and should have known to replace the seal while they had the drive shaft out for the repairs. Brian the shop manager at Douglas Automotive made a statement that he had trained the individual who did the work on my truck! I will not go back there and now will have to pay another shop to fix what Douglas Automotive will not, without charging me. The other shop also told me that there where some other issues that should have been caught when Douglas Automotive had my Truck last July and in January. In January I also asked DA to check my running lights and park lights bulbs as they where out. I was charged for bulbs and labor. I took the truck back the other day to check the leak I asked them to also check the running lights again as they where not working. The mechanic tried to pry the running light bulb out of the socket which was corroded and it broke, he agreed to replace it. I was told by Jean that they would replace the fixture free of charge but I would charged for labor Really! FYI when I purchased my Truck in June of last year I had two reputable shops look at my truck before I bought it and there where now leaks anywhere. Douglas auto even changed the engine oil as part of the repairs last year and it had no leaks. I might also add that my truck is my second vehicle and I have only put less than 5000 miles on this truck since I purchased it in June of 2019. All in all I have paid this shop almost 3,000.00 for repairs and it was not repaired correctly. Beware and check everything on a repair list and what you asked them to do and or get a second opinion or third. read more

Unfortunately, I couldn't drive faster away. This mechanic was highly recommended to me but ended up turning into a huge disappointment. To start, I brought my car in for a trip check and a look over. I voiced my concerns about a few areas of the car and left it to them. I was asked if I wanted a ride home but I figured I would wait when they told me it would take 45 minutes to an hour tops. I was there for nearly three hours in a poorly air conditioned, fly infested lobby. Every time I asked about an ETA on my car, I was told it's almost done. By the time the check was finished I received a quote for over $800 for all of the repairs. Let me preface this with the fact that I brought it to Goodyear later that day and got a quote for $500 for the same repairs and the inspection was done in 45 minutes as promised. Back to Douglas Auto, after waiting for nearly 3 hours for a trip check that I was told would take less than an hour, I was told that the mechanical check was free but that the computer diagnostic would cost me $70...of which not only did I not ask for but was it never even disclosed to me that this was being done. Whether or not it was needed, it was a surprise to me and I felt ripped off. For one, I should not have had any surprise charges for a trip check, those have been free from every single other mechanic I've ever been to. Two, it was dishonest to go ahead and do it without saying "hey, this costs $$, do you want us to do it?" Which would have been the candid route to take instead of "well we did it and now you have to pay for it." Second, Goodyear found that my engine mount was missing all of its padding. I asked up front to have the engine mount checked at Douglas. They never said a word about it, did they even look? After all of that, they said my battery was condemned and I needed a new one for $140. By this time, my phone battery was about dead from waiting so long, I was almost out of water and I was afraid of breaking down on the side of the road. So I said sure..put in a new battery. Then they informed me that they don't actually have the battery and they'll get it right over from their partner. I asked how long that would take and again, I was told half an hour tops. Over an hour later I was so ready to just get the hell out I didn't even want the battery anymore. I was informed it was almost here and so I decided yet again to take their word for it. Over $200 later, three hours in a hot lobby and being constantly told "it's done" only to have to wait hours later for my car, which was only getting a trip check, a new battery, and an outrageous quote for repairs, I realized this was a nightmare. Maybe it was an off day or maybe I was being taken advantage of. In hindsight, I wish I took the ride offer and asked up front what my costs would be for the day. Then again, I wasn't planning on being lied to (by a long shot) about how much time things would take or what pricey diagnostic materials would b. By the time I realized I was being jerked around it was already hours into the appointment. Either way, I'm not at all sure why the person who spoke volumes of these guys would waste the referral. Never again. In response to the business reply.... Pretty tasteless to comment trying justify how I was treated without so much as an apology. When a customer gets undercooked chicken at a restaurant, is that on them? Of course not. You apologize and offer a new meal. There was zero communication and yes, you offered a ride at the very beginning when you told me it would only be 45 minutes. That's supposed to be my fault you all lied? Yes, I sat across from a sign with all the general service charges. Does that mean you tack one or two on without even telling or better yet, asking me? Either way you cut it, not disclosing costs to a customer before the service is done is dishonest. You served me undercooked chicken, own up to it. I stand by my review. read more

Honest mechanic is an oxymoron right? Not at Douglas Auto. I was recently quoted a laughable $80 for an oil change (yes really, double the cost of the dealership) $30 here. I also had them check my squeaking brakes they cleaned them out for no charge and let me know I still had about 30% left. They even have a complimentary shuttle for customers, which I didn't need. read more

I was looking for an auto repair shop to take my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and read a lot of good things about Douglas Automotive on the "Nextdoor" website. My Jeep had what sounded like the water pump or the serpentine belt tension pulley going bad. Took it to DA, asked they check it out and do the regular servicing. The next day they called and told me it was the water pump. But the big surprise...they checked with the dealer for a water pump in stock. The dealer told them Jeep has been having problems with water pumps on that model and had extended the warranty. So rather than fixing it and charging me an arm & leg, DA told me the problem and said take it to the dealer, that it was under the extended warranty, and gave me the name of the service advisor they talked to. Now that is an honest auto repair shop and I will return to Douglas Automotive in the future. read more

Okay, I'll be honest. On my first trip to Douglas Auto, as I left the pavement and on to the dirt road leading to the shop I wondered if I'd plugged the wrong auto shop into my GPS. Surely the shop I was looking for was out on the main road somewhere. Nope, the huge "Douglas Auto" sign I'd just passed confirmed I was heading to the right place. Maybe I'd just overlooked in all the reviews the fact that the shop was off the beaten trail a ways. Regardless, one thing just about all the Yelp, Google, Angie's List, and Facebook reviews I'd read agreed on was the friendliness of the staff and the high quality of service performed by knowledgeable technicians at competitive and reasonable prices. That's good enough validation for me. Once at the shop, I pulled into the service yard and could immediately see multiple, spotless, well organized service bays equipped with what looked like state-of-the-art service and repair equipment. All the service bays were filled with customer's cars, SUV's, and trucks of all ages. A full shop is always a good indicator of a place's popularity. I already knew from reading the reviews that Douglas Auto only employs top-notch technicians. After parking my SUV, I checked in at the front desk so as to get my A/C system serviced. I sat down in the waiting area and immediately struck up a conversation with a lady and gentleman customer who had brought their respective vehicles in for service. Really nice, genuine people with very interesting stories as to how they ended up in the Tucson area. But, I digress. Come to find out that both of them had been bringing their vehicles to Douglas Auto for years and both spoke highly of the level of care and service they had received over the years, which is why they have remained loyal and stedfast customers. Good to know. Just about all of Douglas Auto's business originates by word of mouth from satisfied customers with little or no advertising needed. That speaks volumes about a business when it's entire customer-base is derived from the recommendations of others. For me as to my experience? I was extremely happy with the work performed and also the cost. There was no trying to up-sell me on services I didn't need, just good, honest work performed to take care of the immediate problem. I asked about the services needs for my other vehicle and got a very honest rundown as to what level of service I needed for it. Had a front end alignment done here after reading good reviews on Nextdoor and Yelp. It's a 'keeper'! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, good service. As I sat waiting, I listened in on what staff was saying to other waiting customers. In all cases, it seemed the mechanics would explain in detail what they had found with the persons car, what the remedy would probably be and say what an approximate estimate would be. Very different (for the better) from my experience with other auto shops. Will definitely be returning here for car service! read more

Brought my car in because it wouldn't start. At first they said it was the starter they replaced it and did a couples other things. They charged me 500$ and the issue didn't get fixed . So then they told me I need a new computer system. They sent my car to the dealer ship got the car back 1 months later. Total bill for everything they did was $1900!!!. And you'd think that to car would be perfect, but no the same day I picked up my car the coolant was leaking and my engine cover wasn't put back on. So I bought it back. They fixed the coolant issue. But my car still doesn't start right and my engine sounds very loud and my engine light came back on. It's still in the shop but I'm just going to take it to a new mechanic bc this has been a 3 month nightmare. I would NEVER have took my car here if I new this is how they do business. read more

While the rest think this shop is great, I will give it an okay,, I have taken cars there, my family, ex wife have taken cars there,,, I have had them replace a oil pan gasket and crankshaft sensor on two separate occasions, one time they left their fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment, after calling me on how to start the jeep ( well they disconnected the battery and re-connecting it the alarm went off DUH!) Now I put my 94 Jepp Grand cherokee in there just two months ago,, after a week they said the computer was bad, okay,, get a new/used one, well they couldnt get the new copter to run ( Has a factory alarm in the computer), they didnt bother to look online or call Jeep to disconnect it, ( 94 has an aftermarket in it, can visibly see it, did not come with factory, they could have called Jeep to find this out) so they ended up sending mine out for repair,, getting the 1000.00 dollar repair bill, I pay it ( they put on a new exhaust manifold too that I had bought several years ago) the jeep went 11 miles and started bucking like crazy,, when I drove it a couple miles it was fine, the when my wife drive it, it bucks like crazy,, so now I have to have it towed back in, will they drive it to find the problem, who knows,, I have not ever sent my cars to garages but now in my 50's I find I dont have time, Also on the repair order I notice they did a compression test on cylinder 6 and marked it at 65 pounds, if they had told me I would have said check the rest ( which any good mechanic would do) and I would not have paid to fix this vehicle, 65 pounds is way low way way low ( new engine is 150-170lbs) They are nice people ( LDS) who run it, dont know the mechanics. but an average garage who can do average stuff, I think when it comes to tough things, they are not very good ( charged me 570 dollars labor. read more

After getting a recommendation from a dealership that I needed an expensive repair I got a second opinion from Douglas that was much more reasonable. I don't post reviews but as i am getting older i think its a good idea. i took my wife's BMW there for an emissions failure and after two weeks of their driving the car around and $800 later,,,they said they couldn't fix it. So I picked it up. Got it home looked under the hood and the MAF sensor and various parts were not even connected. So I put it all back together myself and drove it a while to cycle through for an emission check and it passed no problem. The excuse I received was two mechanics worked on it and they guessed the 2nd one didn't open the hood. I thought I would give them a second chance and asked for an estimate for a transmission service (not a cheap job and good money for them) . They never even called back. I'd stay away from them unless you want a wiper blade changed or an oil change and as for me they are not capable of either. read more
