The Hilton Florence Metropole is a decent hotel not far from FLR airport. The surrounding area does not present well, nevertheless we always felt safe. We reserved a standard king bed room and received a complimentary upgrade to a "nicer" king bed room. Nicer I guess because it was a corner room with a "better view" but not much else was different to the standard king bed room. The common areas are beautifully decorated and well maintained. Front Desk staff were always informative and helpful. The Executive Lounge, with indoor and outdoor seating, was always stocked with snacks, drinks, and small bites. We had dinner in the restaurant there and it was just ok. Not bad but also not very good. The servers, though, were very attentive and friendly. We did take advantage of the complimentary shuttle provided and were dropped off at the local train stop, just across the street from a mall. When we returned later that evening, I called the hotel to let them know we were back at the same drop-off location, but we still had to wait about 40 minutes for the driver to pick us up. Not a major inconvenience, until the rain started falling. Thankfully it was very light rain but there's no place to seek shelter at that drop-off location. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Florence but will definitely stay somewhere else if we do return. As for the local train, it was very easy and inexpensive. About €1.70 per person each way, and it took us straight to the main station, Santa Maria Novella (S.M. Novella) where we enjoyed walking around, visiting the Duomo, and stopping for a most enjoyable lunch and delicious gelato. read more

This is not what you'd expect from a Hilton. It's an okay hotel but shouldn't be called a Hilton. The beds are tiny and don't have sheets on them, just comforters. Another thing is they don't supply you with enough soap. When you ask for another bar of soap they take the second one when they come through the room to clean. Odd. The shuttle is hit or miss and the guy makes his own schedule. With the location so far from things expect to pay for cabs. I will say though if you're looking for an affordable place and just a place to sleep it'll do. read more

If you value convenience, good food and coffee, and privacy, don't stay here. The hotel is located about 20 minutes from the city center. While there is a hotel shuttle, it only runs at fixed times. One evening the shuttle never arrived, and when we called the hotel, they told us to get a cab instead. We were reimbursed for the cab, but had to wander around looking for a cab for a while at 10 pm. It's unclear why they didn't send the shuttle or let people know it wasn't running that night. The food is pretty atrocious, so definitely avoid the breakfast. Lots of powdered scrambled eggs and Nescafé. Which brings me to my next complaint: there is no other coffee in the whole building aside from Nescafé. Not only is that my personal version of hell, but what self respecting Italian hotel serves that garbage?!? Finally, our room was super weird. Unless you are really close to the person you are sharing a room with, I recommend not sharing a room. The bathroom is all glass. If someone is showering, you can see everything. If that's not enough, there's a creepy sliding door by the bed where you can also watch someone take a shower. Maybe we accidentally got the exhibitionist room? An absolute joke of a Hilton. The elevator system is prehistoric. 4 elevators that do not work in conjunction for 13 floors. Hilariously bad. Took me more than 20 minutes just to make it to the reception from my floor. The room is unbelievably hot at 26 Celsius. The window does not open. Reception did not answer there phone after I attempted numerous times. The shower is extremely odd. There is a window that exposes the shower to the room and there is a sliding door that can hide this window but it's only accessible from the outside. I am kind of in the middle on this hotel. It was not bad, but somewhat below what you would expect from a Hilton hotel property. Please note that the hotel is outside of town, but they do have an hourly shuttle that takes you to the rail station just outside of the city center. From there you can walk to all the sites in Florence. The Hotel itself is located in a working class suburb of town. There is a perimeter fence and wall around the hotel although the gates for cars and buses are left open. Inside the hotel it is very clean and bright. Lots of foreign visitors stay there. The hotel staff are nice and try to help. Most do not speak English or their English is minimal, so it may take a bit of time to communicate. If you go to the bar, be sure to order either beer or wine. The bar staff is not trying to make mixed drinks. Their idea of a margarita is tequila and lime juice. A lot of tequila! So much that I had to return my drink. The rooms are nicely sized and clean, but a bit dated. The bathroom really needed to be remodeled as there were signs of wear in the shower and around the sink. The sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. There isn't much of a view, at least from our room. There's not much more to say about the hotel. read more

What a sad state of affairs for this hotel. Most of the staff is apologetic for the treatment of their guests and for the reduction of services. This was once one of my most favorite hotels to stay in. I loved the executive lounge on the top floor (which is now closed with no plans on reopening)I loved the restaurant ( which is now closed, with no plans of reopening). The top floor which is the executive floor has no wifi and there are no plans to rectify the situation. The front desk personnel which were one time incredible are now rude and lie to your face concerning the issues you are incurring. Also, don't bother calling the solution hotline to resolve any issues. Apparently the resolution is to not answer the hotline or any other extension. Due to the restaurant being closed we tried to eat in the hotel bar; only to be I " ignored for a hour and a half while guests around us were being served ? I don't understand? The one bright spot was the breakfast and the staff that works the breakfast; it was like a Jackal and hide in reference to every other part of the hotel. They were wonderful! The hotel is showing its age and in speaking to the staff as to understand what is happening after being a guest of this hotel for 12 years; they just respond with a yes" we see it too and we apologize and miss the old days"! read more

This is a really nice Hilton located on the outskirts of Florence. It is a good 15 minute car ride with traffic to get to the city center. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are well appointed and come with all the amenities that you get in an American hotel. The gym is really nice, and they also have a pool, and I believe a sauna. It definitely pays to be a Gold or Diamond member as you will get access to the private lounge which overlooks the city and offers complimentary drinks and food. Fantastic stay at this Hilton. Everything from check in to check out was great. The staff are so helpful. The room we were given was such a delight. Corner room and had a view of florence. The dry pasta in our room was such a nice welcome. (Still need to figure out how to cook it). Beds are super comfortable and bathrooms are huge. A small mini fridge was in our room as well. Free parking and wifi. They also offer a free shuttle service to the city and this was very helpful! It drops you off at the train station which is a perfect location. They run numerous times throughout the day. They have a schedule handy for you when you check in. We would definitely stay here again if we are to visit Florence. I don't understand how this hotel has low reviews. First off its a Hilton, so valued as a Hilton, this was at all the standards of a Hilton. Good A/C, comfortable Beds, good views of Florence. And priced half the price of anything in the city. Be prepared it is about 20 -25 minutes outside of the city but its near highways to get you into Florence or other nearby cities. The breakfast was the weakest part, but still not a bad experience. They also had a late check in, which was also nice because we wouldn't be arriving until 9 PM. We had our own car, they offer a free garage which you need your key to get in and out. But I also believed they offer a shuttle into the city as well. read more

The staff at this hotel is top notch. So very nice and helpful. We had an executive king suite. I would estimate it at about 350 square feet. Really nice bed and comfortable linens. The air conditioning allows you to adjust between 37 and 34 degrees Celsius, as such I cannot recommend this hotel if it is warm outside. We borrowed a fan from the front desk and still slept on top of the sheets and sweated all night. The shower had an odd quarter glass door that completely flooded the bathroom floor every time we used it. The executive lounge on the 15th floor is beautiful and had an amazing view of Florence! read more

Alright...so I read the reviews and now I'm giving my take as an American that comes to Italy often. The location is terrible if you want any kind of nightlife or want to be able to walk to the center of Florence. There is a shuttle but that's just inconvenient. The hotel is designed very well and is a very tall building so you get good views. However you can tell the upkeep on the place is poor. Wallpaper pealing, furniture torn in some areas. The gym is fine with a few treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and basic weight machines and weights. There is a random spa pool that I didn't see anyone use that was free for Hilton rewards members. Clean and comfortable American-feeling hotel located outside of Florence central. No issues with the room or check-in/out. Two notes: --The elevators were rather small for what felt like an otherwise large hotel - we aren't very large but the elevator could only fit four of us...granted we did have our backpack luggage but that usually isn't an issue... --Wifi is free for Hilton Honors members but not other guests or at least it was at the time we stayed :\ As most reviewers state, the shuttle service is important if visiting and you're not driving. You'll want to keep a copy of the shuttle schedule handy (maybe take a picture of it on your phone) so you can get to and from Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The shuttle is convenient and picks up to the right of the station across from the huge wall of Fortezza da Basso where all the other shuttle buses stop -- be sure to look for the right shuttle and like fellow Yelper Ned R. says, be sure to arrive early because you'll want to be one of the first on the shuttle to grab a seat. Liked the fact that the shuttle took us over to the other side of Florence so we got to see a different neighborhood and some additional epic sunset-watching spots. Location: The hotel was far from the city center. We found the shuttle to be reliable. We didn't take it at night and just decided to stay near the hotel for dinner. Unfortunately, there are no restaurants by the hotel, minus a little pizza place. The food at the Hotel restaurant was overpriced, and hit or miss. Room: Our room was pretty and had a nice view of the City of Florence. The issue with the room is that they tried to make it so modern that it was not that functional (example: you have to insert a key and keep it in there to turn on the lights). The bed was VERY uncomfortable. Hard as a rock. On top of that they have temperature controls on the room. We could only change the temperature by 4 degrees and then it would rise again. Executive Lounge: The man that hosted the lounge our first day was so nice. The food and spread needed much improvement, but he made it a great place to be. The woman that hosted the lounge the next day was so incredibly rude. She was short and made us feel uncomfortable. read more

The room was ok. After staying at the Marzia in Scandicci it was an upgrade. I was able to overlook minor issues such as the bathroom filling up with water after each shower and the noise from air conditioning. However, when I went to check out this morning and asked for a Reciept the front desk clerk refused. I asked 3 times and after explaining I needed it for expense reports, I gave up and walked away. By the time I got to the door I could hear the desk clerk mutter "fuck you". I was NOT being rude. I don't understand what the problem was other than someone needs to teach that boy some manners. I'll even tolerate the cold showers and prison style rooms at the Marzia before I return to this Hilton. read more

Clean and modern with gym, spa, and a nice restaurant. This hotel is the tallest in Florence. They offer free shuttles to downtown Florence morning, day, and night. Their tv screen said Welcome Miss Grace. I also got a letter and two bottles of sparkling and still water everyday. I appreciate higher touches and this hotel definitely had them. We dined in their restaurant for a late night snack which involved an antipasto platter, salad, and pasta. All of which were delicious and great quality. They provided exceptional service and were very patient with all of our indecisiveness. They had big windows which allows lots of natural lighting and a view of Florence. Their blinds are automatic which are convenient for getting some uninterrupted sleep. I liked our bathroom with a spacious shower and a big showerhead. I also liked their tiling and thought that the door sliding open on the bedroom side allowing you to see into the shower was pretty cool. Their toilet seat was a little creaky, but not a big deal. I recommend this hotel especially for people who like comfort in a modern setting. read more

This was our first time in Florence and the staff at the Metropole helped make it a great experience. The breakfast was outstanding and the amenities were clean and well kept. The folks at the front desk we more than happy to help us pick a local restaurant and taxi (very fair prices). The nicest touch was that every time we passed a staff member in the hallway or in the lobby they said hello. The room was very clean and tidy. We had service clean our room while we were away and everything was in its place when we came back. We will definitely stay here again. Special mention... the bar tender (from the Philippines) that manned the bar in the main lobby is a great guy. Take your time to have a conversation with him if you have a chance. read more

This is a very nice and Clean Hotel. We stayed with my girlfriend for our wedding for 11 nights. Staff is super friendly, rooms are spacious and clean with a great view of the old city, we were on the 11th floor. Hotel has many services. Best thing to do since you cant walk to city center is to rent a car o get a shuttle provided by the hotel because a taxi is 20 euro to go there and 20 to come back. My family spent last night here in transit. We payed with points. We reserved a king room and room with double beds. We checked in late, and because of a screw up on their end, it took 20 minutes to get our correct rooms. The two ladies at the front desk seemed inexperienced and confused. We immediately learned that the toilet in our room didn't flush and we requested another room. They sent up a little guy who told us that a plunger would not be available until the next morning, but he pushed the mess down the toilet with his brush. This idiot admonished us for flushing toilet paper down the toilet and told us that it is illegal under Italian law. 20 minutes latter afraid multiple threats and refusals to speak with a manager, a man called and quickly switched our room. With a huge mirror, the new room seemed like it would belong in a brothel. The shade would not work and we were blinded when the sun rose. The beds in the other room did not have a top sheet under the duvet. I'll stop here. The hotel is located well away from the city center in an ugly ugly residential area by a shopping mall, and partially surrounded by freeways. There is a nearby bowling alley if you get bored of renessaince culture. This hotel reminds me of hotels in 3rd world countries. What a hellhole. read more

The front desk staff member named Marco helped us recommend amazing restraunts and places to visit in Florence. Most importantly, Hilton went out of their way to provide an efficient shuttle service that arrives well beyond on time and doesn't waste any time for tourists. Furthermore, their breakfast buffet was very tasty with many different options to choose from. Not a bad hotel. It has all the normal nice Hilton inclusions and nice views. However the spa is closed for the indefinite future and that should have been publicised on booking. The shuttle is the real problem. It doesn't run often enough and there was a lot of pressure for the last bus at night on a weekend, to get everyone on. Not a nice way to end the evening. There's also a huge gap in services in the middle of the day. Next time I'd be inclined to choose a hotel a bit closer with fewer facilities. read more

The three of us women requested a twin room with a 3rd rollaway bed. Of course that was an extra charge per night, which was ok. We booked months in advance to make sure we got the proper accommodations, being that a room with 3 beds came with the larger room (which they have). To our surprise, the room was too small! The rollaway bed just cleared the closet hallway area. The other twin beds took up so much space, that we could barely fit our suitcases on each side of our beds. Then, the hallway bathroom had CLEAR GLASS, so the person in the rollaway, or anyone in the hallway could see in the bathroom! Next, the toilet area had frosted glass with clear glass stripes! You could see thru to the toilet area! No bathroom privacy! Never experienced anything like it before. Never will again. Nothing to offer regarding hotel location. We took a long walk to 1 restaurant, which served good food. Nothing else was around. The shuttle ran every hour or so. That was it. Good points: Food was good in the hotel, and service was great. We stayed here for two nights at the end of our trip to Italy. It's about 3 km from the Florence airport. The desk staff was very helpful and spoke English. The room was very nice & modern. They had a great gym and warm pool... but you had to pay to use the pool at a rate of 18 euro's a day for two people. The restaurant & bar were not great though. When we went to get a drink at the bar we waited & waited & waited and no one ever came over to help us, so we finally walked up and after a good 5 minutes the bartender finally took our order (there was NO ONE ELSE in front of us, and only two other people in the bar at the time!). The restaurant food was pretty good and they had vegetarian selections included some vegan ones. Both nights I wanted to try Tiramasu & both nights I was told they were sold out. The worst was we ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter proceeded to argue with us that we should try another type of wine because what we ordered was more a sweet wine more appropriate for desert. We are not big on wine and happen to like Moscato, so we told him thanks but no thanks, we want the Moscato. So towards the end of the meal, I was on my 2nd glass of wine and a gnat or fruit fly was flying around and got in my wine. My husband called the waiter over and he said he would get me another glass... he did and then went for our bottle of wine which was empty, so he was not going to open another bottle... my husband said to him essentially hey there was a bug in my wife's glass of wine and you need to replace it with a fresh glass, to which the waiter said....oh, well we don't sell wine by the glass, to which my husband told him that he needed to comp a glass of wine, so he said he would send a glass of wine up to our room. He did, but it was not the Moscato, it was some nasty tasting wine that we poured down the drain. We found that rude and did I forget to mention Mr. Snooty waiter who thinks he knows all about wine also had body oder? They next evening we ordered from the restaurant, but had it delivered to our room instead so we didn't have to deal with Mr. Snooty or have our stomach turned by his body oder. The desk staff called a taxi for us the day we left, but I noticed that it cost us about 6 euro more for the one they called for a trip to the airport, than it had cost from the airport to the hotel. Total cost was just under 20 euro from Hilton to Firenze Aeroporto. The room at the Hilton while nice & modern, the king bed was not a king bed, but two twin bed together which my husband & I did not like as one of us ends up on the crack in the morning with a back ache. The other thing was that you could hear everything through the walls so it was loud and not restful... it didn't help we were beside the elevators, so maybe ask for a room away from the elevators might be helpful if you like your quiet like we do. This hotel is about a 15 minute cab ride to the city center. It's pretty clean and the breakfast is decent but expensive. The staff is not so helpful. I stayed here for a business trip and the travel department at my company booked the reservation, when I needed to make a minor change to it, the hotel refused to do it stating that the original person who made the reservation needed to call them to change it. Needless to say, it was a huge hassle and they did this to another coworker as well. I've never encountered a hotel policy quite like this before. read more

The restaurant is a little overpriced for the quality, however the desserts were presented beautifully! My only drawback was my room. The "Queen" size bed was just two twin beds pushed together. Falling in the crack every night was annoying. The walls were very thin and the house keeping started very early on my floor. Excellent cappuccinos and almost worth the $20 that the breakfast costs.
