Okay but be aware. My first attempt I was given a room extremely far away; it was dirty to the touch, my deadbolt didn't work, and the lock to the balcony door was completely falling apart (and didn't lock). I left immediately bc I wasn't safe. My second stay I'm in building 2, and the room is clean and my doors lock. It wants to be bougie real bad--and it's not--but it's solid. It is 5 buildings that all connect, kind of, with a center courtyard. Don't get lost! Guest laundry, decent enough gym (though cardio and weights are separate), pool, and hot tub. Hilton, you gotta start telling us in the app when there's a hot tub! Front desk staff all very nice. There were 0 available rooms until nearly 3 pm. It's in desperate need of at least a mini renovation (new paint, eCheck your locks, know there are some rough rooms and be ready to switch, but I'm glad I gave it a second chance because it's fine. read more

Please stay far away from this hotel. The odor throughout the property was overwhelming and unpleasant, with strong smells of mold, mildew, and cigarette smoke everywhere. The host at the restaurant was unfriendly to the point where I almost walked away, although I will say that the waitress I had was very kind. I requested housekeeping multiple times during my stay. I was later told it was not completed because my "Do Not Disturb" sign was up during cleaning hours. However, during previous stays at this hotel, staff still knocked on my door to ask when they could return to clean the room, which made this explanation extremely frustrating. On two separate occasions, front desk staff told me directly that my room would be cleaned, and it never was. One front desk employee was dismissive and spoke to me with an attitude that made me feel disrespected. To make matters worse, the hotel uses automated text messages sent from "Glenda." I responded around 11:30 AM requesting housekeeping because I had work calls scheduled. I left my room for a period of time, returned to find it untouched, and later received another text stating they were unable to clean my room due to a high volume of rooms. This contradicted what I had been told earlier and was extremely disappointing. The room itself is in serious need of updates. The walls are extremely thin--I could hear doors slamming, people yelling, and even the person in the next room using the bathroom. The lack of soundproofing made it impossible to rest or work. For someone staying away from home, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I ultimately checked out early and went straight home. read more

I've been staying at this DoubleTree for years whenever I visit Berkeley. My family and I have great memories here from when I attended Cal, so we booked it again expecting the same Hilton-level standards. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the experience was off. The front desk host didn't greet us at all--no hello, no welcome--just handed me the room keys and asked if I'd be parking a vehicle. Parking is $40 a night plus tax (not included in the nightly rate), which is already excessive, but we moved on. When we headed to our room on the second floor, the elevator and hallway smelled like smoke. Not a faint smell--strong enough that all five of us noticed immediately. We opened the door to our assigned room only to find someone already inside. Awkward and embarrassing, especially with three kids and all our luggage. I went back to the same front desk host, who still showed no friendliness or concern. When I explained what happened, she simply said, "Oh, ok," with zero apology. She then asked if I wanted the same type of room as if nothing unusual had happened. After a moment, she handed me new keys and said she "upgraded" me to a marina-view room--though it felt more like she'd run out of the room type I actually booked. The new room wasn't much better. It was noticeably old, smelled bad, and didn't feel clean. The smoke smell was everywhere except the lobby. When I mentioned it, the front-desk host replied that smoking isn't allowed within 25 feet of the hotel--yet there were cigarette butts right on our balcony, and the smell throughout the building said otherwise. Overall, it's clear this hotel has gone downhill. The only thing saving it is the beautiful surrounding area. Unfortunately, the service, cleanliness, and overall condition no longer match the Hilton brand. I won't be staying here again on future trips to the Bay Area. read more

We ordered thru Hilton as we are HGRV members and requested an accessible room and not only did the bathroom not have grab bars near the toilet, I couldn't get into the bathroom with my walker. The bedding was of low quality -- mattress far too soft and sheets not soft at all. I will never stay here again. The parking fee is too expensive as well. read more

I'll start with the positives first : Location is right by the marina so you can walk along the path and it makes for a great morning or evening walk. Staff is very friendly. There's a restaurant onsite. Now for the negatives : the hotel is a bit worn down, older furniture, and several chips very outdated bathroom. The AC is a wall unit so it's very noisy. Also walls are very thin and you can hear the TV from the next room if they are adjoining rooms. Self parking is $40 valet is $42. Worn around the edges, this property has definitely seen better days. I stayed a few nights for business, and while it was serviceable, there wasn't much that stood out. It's too bad -- the marina location right on the Bay has so much potential, but the hotel just doesn't quite live up to it. I didn't have a car with me, but noticed they charge for parking even though there seemed to be plenty of open space -- that would definitely be annoying given the room rates. We booked here by AirBnB. When we arrived, I checked in at the front desk. Our room was supposed to be a king bed. When I checked in the woman at the front, booked us a room with two twin beds! The thing that surprise me was, she never said anything about what beds would be in the room or any details. I thought that was strange. So we didn't realize until we got to the room that it was the incorrect room. Thankfully, after we talk to the front desk, they were able to get us " the last king room" as they said. We really enjoyed the room once we got moved to the right room. It had a nice spacious bathroom counter for doing make up. and it had great closet space. There was a closet in the bathroom and there was a closet also in the bedroom. There was a safe, an ironing board and an iron. We also were given a couch, seating area, and a refrigerator. The TV was nicely sized and offered Netflix and Amazon prime, which we really enjoyed. The best part about our trip was that our room had a patio that led out to a grassy walking area. This hotel is dog friendly and if you walk behind the hotel, there's a giant leash free dog park with a view of San Francisco and the Bay! That was really a pleasure to take a walk by. They also had a very cute garden area with seating and an indoor pool. I really felt like this hotel had a lot of accommodations for their guests and it was a great location to visit Berkeley. By staying here, you can have a quiet serene visit while also being only a 10 minute drive from a lot of activities and downtown. read more

Not too bad of a hotel, stayed here for a work trip. Nice views, location, and indoor pool. Any doubletree you go to will give you cookies if you ask. I'm used to getting just regular chocolate chip cookies, but these double tree cookies have nuts as well, I personally really enjoyed them! As guest, unfortunately you do have to pay for parking. The hotel is sectioned into multiple buildings. We stayed in the building right next to the checkin/events building. There is an indoor pool that also has a sauna, weights, and cardio room. We are right at the marina, the sunsets are beautiful. My room faced the parking lot/city which wasn't all that bad either. The rooms were like any other standard room. Nothing amazing and nothing horrible. The building is a bit outdated and not as modern, but it's livable for a few nights. I would stay here again. read more

OK hotel in a nice location, right on the water and next to a beautiful park. The rooms are average, the "courtyard view" was facing a wall so not great. But the property is nicely landscaped so I imagine a real courtyard view would have been nice. The restaurant is very average and quite expensive and so is the little shop they have in the lobby. There is a place to refill water bottles with filtered water so that's good at least. I had no hot water to shower in my room and they did not seem to care when I told them at check out. I honestly probably won't be back since there are many options over here and the experience left me feeling pretty blah. read more

I was very impressed with this hotel! It's a short drive or a 30 minute walk from a lot of Berkeley stores and is right on the waterfront. They have a heated pool, WiFi, and of course the cookies. The rooms were a little worn, but it was all cosmetic issues like a bit of peeling paint or chipped corners. I did have one big drawback, which was the noise. The doors to the rooms are incredibly heavy and slam very easily. You could hear people slamming doors all night! Because the parking lot is also right outside the rooms we stayed in, we also were woken up by at least one person blasting music for hours. read more

I want to start this by saying I'm really sad to be writing this review. My partner and I booked this room with hopes of a nice view and a clean room. We didn't get either and we got to experience 3 rooms for a one night stay. When we first arrived we were a little put off because there was three women at the front desk but no one even acknowledged us. One was on the phone (understandably she didn't greet us) the second was playing with the woman on the phones hair and never even looked at us (strange and unprofessional but whatever) and the third helped some guests that had walked up at the same time as us but never said anything to us and in all actuality and not to be petty we were there like 7 seconds before the other people. The first two women walk off as a fourth woman comes from the back and finally helps us check in. We check in drive to our building walk in and I almost threw up. I called the front desk and let the woman know that the room had a disgusting smell and we would not be able to stay in it. She said she would send someone. The guy that came was nice enough although I did get the impression that this might be something he deals with regularly. He agrees it smells horrible and informs us it smells like dog because it's on the first floor and they are a pet friendly hotel. He calls someone and they change our room. Second room is about 4 doors down so I am already hesitant and when we walk in it stinks too but it's like 5/10 which is far better than the 15/10 stench in the first room so we just take it because we are starving and needed to get ready for dinner. He walks out and I go to turn on the a/c and the panel says err. I hit the on button and turn it down and nothing. When the young man brings us keys for that room I inform him this room also smells and it has no a/c. He comes in and smells the room and says I agree I'm going to have the front desk manager call you. A few minutes later she does and offers to move us again and at this point I just want a working a/c in a room that doesn't smell like dirty wet dog so I agree and I do at this point ask her to move us buildings because this isn't working. A while later she calls and says someone went in a new room and it doesn't smell bad and the a/c works. A second later a new guy is at our door and hands us keys to the new room tells us the room number and leaves. Now we are in the third room (in the same building and one floor up). It smelled like someone had sprayed something but hey at least it didn't smell like dog and the a/c worked. From check in to this point was pushing an hour long ordeal and we just wanted to be able to eat dinner and relax. We leave for dinner and come back to our whole room reeking of marijuana. I didn't have an ounce of energy left to complain about it and honestly I didn't have any faith that they would fix the situation but to be fair I didn't even give them a chance so no stars taken off for that. I go to take a shower before bed and I notice that there is mold in the shower in several spots. I know this hotel is dated and it's by the water but there is no reason to just let mold grow. Overall I would never stay here again. While the people were not explicitly rude they also were not very helpful and honestly gave us the impression that they just didn't want to be bothered. We often stay at different Hilton properties and I've only one time ever had to change a room during my stay and it was because it was 107 in Sacramento and the a/c stopped working. I'm not a chronic complainer and this is not something that I do frequently by any means. We were so excited for a relaxing night and sadly were met with disappointment after disappointment. read more

We have stayed at this DoubleTree location a couple times - a few years ago with our kids and more recently just my husband and myself. We decided to stay here for a couple nights because it is not too far from the Berkeley Greek Theatre, where we had tickets to a concert, and because it was our 25th wedding anniversary!! We were coming from very hot Reno and it felt great to be in much cooler weather near the water. We paid for a marina view room, but after learning it was our anniversary we were upgraded to a 3rd floor (top level) room in the building next to the lobby. We had a great view from our balcony! Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. They also comped the parking fee, which had recently gone up in price. Very nice of them - we appreciate it! We had a nice relaxing dinner in their restaurant and spent time walking around the property. We especially enjoyed walking the adjacent Cesar Chavez Park with all the great ocean views-- you can't beat the location for this area! While the property seems a little dated, I actually liked the vibe there. With all the tropical plants, it "almost" feels like the old days of Hawaii. Again, we were coming from a desert so it felt lush by comparison. We are happy to have spent our 25th anniversary here! read more

This is a hard place to review. There were many positives, but also so many ways that it falls short. The hotel's biggest positive is also its biggest negative. The location provides great views of the San Francisco Bay and Skyline. However, the location is secluded from any shops, restaurants, and public transportation. You are forced to have a car and pay $40 per night for parking, take an expensive Lyft, or walk 5 minutes and take the bus to Downtown Berkeley (from there you can take BART to San Francisco or Oakland). The staff is courteous and friendly. They offer free cookies like all DoubleTrees. They also give you credit to the gift shop, which is necessary as a large water is $12. DoubleTree's generally have good restaurants, this one does not. The Berkeley Boathouse offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has a full bar. For $18 I had avocado toast. It was a packaged avocado spread on toast. It did not look appetizing and it was very bland. It came with 2 microwaved poached eggs. The food was lacking, but the staff were attentive and professional. The bar seems lively and dinner looks more appetizing. Overall, I would recommend this location for a wedding or special event. I would imagine that the cost for a group event here is less than that at a Hilton hotel in San Francisco and for that discounted price you get amazing views of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco skyline. This hotel also has a gym, pool, and lots of common areas for people to hang out. If you do not have a big group, I don't see as much of a benefit staying here. Overall the property is nice, the staff is friendly, but it is hard to navigate around and there are better options in the surrounding area. read more

Put me in a room with no cell phone service and lovely elevator humming all night. It's great from the outside, has an awesome location and seems like it's full of friendly staff. Inside, the room was a totally different story. Marina views on the main floor were absolutely fabulous. Worth paying an extra $25 a night for! Parking costs $40/night so keep that in mind when booking. Everything felt safe on the grounds, and parking felt safe as well. Very clean. Prompt help with additional pillows etc was great! The cleanliness is what disappointed us most, and at the end of busy city travel day(s), all you want is a place to kick off your shoes. With no working bathroom fan and yucky stains, we kept our shoes on the whole time. The hot water didn't work in the bathroom faucet the first two nights of our stay, so that also let us down. It magically started working on the third night. It just seems like all the effort is in the facade for this property, and not in the details of the rooms. Honestly, it could be great with some steam cleaning, deep cleaning, re-caulking, an electrician for the fan and a plumber for the missing hot water. The service was amazing and the staff were all so friendly, and Wanna and Roger went above and beyond. Afterwards we stopped in the gift shop and had a wonderful conversation with Sheila. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. Close proximity to Cesar Chavez park meant beautiful views of SF and nice walking trails. They also had cold brew on tap which was cool, but for $10 a cup I'll pass. The staff at this hotel were incredibly rude. I travel frequently for business and this is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. First, when I checked into my room something was clearly wrong with the air conditioning. It sounded like it was underwater when it was turned on. This was in August (2025), so it was warm outside, but it was warmer in my room (~80°). The only way to cool the room was to open all of the doors and windows. I didn't feel comfortable leaving the room open like that overnight, so the next day after an awful night of sweaty sleep, I informed the front desk of the issue. They told me the AC didn't work because I had been gone all day... my coworker had also been gone all day and his room was a comfortable temperature. The blackout curtains in my room had also been completely shredded so I only had sheer curtains. After blaming me for the hot room, the front desk finally agreed to let me switch rooms. Surprise, surprise the AC worked great in the new room. The day before I was checking out, I asked the front desk if I could get a late checkout due to my flight time. They agreed. The next morning, housekeeping knocks at my door to inform me it is past checkout time. I let them know I spoke with the front desk the night before and they approved a late checkout. No problem. The housekeeper was friendly and left with a smile. Two minutes later someone is practically banging down my door. It's the housekeeping manager. "Time to get out!" she says. Excuse me??? This is now the 3rd person at the hotel I've talked to about the late checkout, and trust me I don't want to be here any longer than I have to be. I've never been spoken to like that by hotel staff ever in my life. I will say our waiter at the restaurant was very nice, but service was slow at times. My rating is actually 4.5 stars. I've attended two weddings, an 18th birthday/grad party, and have had multiple staycations here with my family (and some goldendoodles) over the last 12+ years. It's a solid place. Location is beautiful since it's right on the edge of the Berkeley Marina. It can be cold, windy, sunny, overcast, clear, foggy -- I mean, it's Bay Area weather so you make it work. Either way, if you can't appreciate the location alone, you're weird. There are walking/bike trails along the property and a nearby hilly park that overlooks the entirety of the bay. Gorgeous. The grounds are well-maintained, especially considering how many pets are usually on the premise. The rooms are what I expect for this kind of hotel. They're clean, have fridges, and you can request a microwave if needed. If we're doing a staycation with extended family, we usually ask for adjoining rooms which is convenient. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion are well-stocked in the bathrooms. I feel like sound control is good. I've never had issues with being able to hear my neighbors. The indoor poolhouse is a good size, heated, and comes with a jacuzzi, sauna, and towels. My kids love it. Super pet friendly. Since most guests know that this is a pet-friendly hotel, most people I've come across are friendly animal lovers, which is a nice environment to be in. A great plus is that they keep doggie water and food bowls on the outdoor patio of the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, I've been satisfied with the food and service. Food is a bit pricey and is the only food option in the vicinity. There are seating areas around the restaurant that include firepits and backyard games to hang out. Overall, the staff is courteous, responsive, and accommodating. You WILL get the occasional whiffs of weed from some of the guests because it is the Bay Area after all. Just a heads up. I think that's what I like the most about this place. It's a relaxed stay. Even on busier weekends with more guests, it doesn't feel overwhelming. There are complementary cookies at the front desk. Generally, this is a pleasant stay if you just need a quiet, unassuming, relaxing place to unwind. read more

I stay here all the time as a commuter to work at the City. All in all, they do ok. The pool and spa are overrun with little kids in non-swim diapers, and often very young children under 5 in the hot tub. The lack of monitoring of this area and the huge liabilities that presents for them and of course the little kids speaks volumes of the management. read more

We have now stayed at this property twice, and we are definitely fans! This hotel has a great location, clean & comfortable rooms and a lovely property. Snagging a king size bed w/ marina view is definitely worth the extra dollars. We love staying in building 3... open up those sliding doors and enjoy the sites & sounds of the harbor. The room amenities include high quality bathroom products and complimentary tea / coffee packets by the Coffee Bean. The towels and pillows are large and luxurious. There is a restaurant onsite that is beautiful & enjoyable, but also quite expensive. I work in Central Berkeley every so often and this has become my hotel of choice. See you next time! read more

Please recognize this individual as he will be a reason that I make a recommendation for those seeking a stay cation in the Bay. Few details, my hope is that the rooms will be updated sooner than later as this has become one of my top list favorites. Attention to detail is key I see & appreciate the housekeeping working hard and friendly but can understand the times in the workforce. Dinner choice could have been more on the tasty side nothing to rave. Dinner server was good as was bartender. We tried the onsite restaurant and while we LOVED our waiter, Roger, the food was insanely overpriced for what you got. (Fish n chips and 2 cans of soda was $50) I highly recommend stopping somewhere to get your own waters for your room or you will be paying $4-$5 a bottle on site. The walks close by are stunning, but nothing else nearby. Uber into town is $30. So not convenient if you don't have a car, and parking is $47 a day. read more

I've been staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina since September 12th (scheduled to check out 9/19), and I've never had such a consistently poor experience at a Hilton property. From day one, there has been zero hospitality from staff. At first, I chalked it up to a late check-in or maybe a stressful day, but after four days, the dismissive and unfriendly behavior is across the board--front desk, restaurant, everyone. The worst incident happened at the Boathouse restaurant. I was waiting in line alone for seating when another guest arrived behind me. He and I sorted it out politely, but the hostess's reaction was appalling--throwing her hands up as if there was a confrontation, speaking in an abrasive tone, and saying, "Fine, come with me then." She sat me down, dropped the menu without a word, and walked away. I sat for 15 minutes with no service, until a waitress finally offered me a coffee. Even then, it was another 10 minutes before my order was taken. And then things got worse. When I went to the front desk to complain, the agent greeted me with, "What do you need?" I've never been addressed like that at any hotel, let alone a Hilton. To her credit, after that initial greeting she was professional and helpful, but the first impression added insult to injury. Immediately afterward, I returned to my room to find my keys no longer worked. They worked on the building door but not my room. I had to wait 7-10 minutes for maintenance. The maintenance worker was insistent about someone possibly being in my room, entered first calling "hello, hello," and then told me my keys were no longer active. Later, he came back and said it was a battery issue with the door. Maybe it was--but the timing was suspicious given I had just filed a complaint downstairs. After four days of consistently cold, unwelcoming service, I can't help but feel there's a serious cultural problem at this hotel. I'm not the only guest saying this--others I've spoken with here feel the same way. Hilton should be embarrassed to have its name on this property. Until there's a major change in leadership, training, and service culture, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Checked in there was a huge spider in our room and it smelled so strong of smoke as if the previous renters smoked in there. I call the front desk who switched me to another room but wants me to go to the front desk (we checked in at midnight and it's raining) and they said okay security will bring it to you. 20 minutes later I call because I've just been sitting there waiting for my keys exhausted. Front desk tells me "sorry they're actually on break they'll be back in 20 minutes." Come on!! unacceptable. ‍ $35 parking for one day is absurd and if I knew I would've never booked here. Breakfast also is not covered in your stay. The beds were comfy and I felt like it was a safe area though. So at least that's one good thing. read more

There's really nothing special about this Double Tree. It's an older facility and it shows. It is in a great location. The welcoming staff could use some new energy. The household is very competent and professional. They have a restaurant and a snack store that I've never accessed. I'm a Hilton honors member so staying there gives me great benefits. read more

Customer service is excellent here. Even in the face of the hardest complaints they are helpful and warm. Property is a bit older and some rooms are not as updated as others . I recommend looking at room before you settle in. Housekeepers we had did an excellent job ! Front desk was awesome. Guest services was responsive . Location perfect for my visit. NEVER Returning in this hotel!!! I am a Hilton Honor's member and have stayed in this hotel few times before. I used to like this hotel as I lived in Bay Area for 20 years and used to frequent this hotel periodically. My last trip (actually last week) was a horrible experience. The rooms are tiny and not clean. The service is horrible. Several services (free ride to local short destinations, concierge services and room service) have been discontinued. The restaurant (Boathouse) is very bad and extremely expensive. I paid $22 for breakfast thinking that it is a buffet (they had buffet before) but found out that I have to order from a menu which had very limited choice. In my stay of 4 nights every morning I was told that their waffle machine is broken and not repaired!!! The shock of my stay is when I requested late check out as my wife was not feeling well and I was declined point blank after a charge of $67 for one hour extension. The front desk was not supportive. When I complained, I was accused of being rude which is shocking. Never blame a guest unnecessarily without reason. NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS HOTEL. Coincidentally, we moved from Berkeley to San Francisco Hilton at Union Square for stayed there for four night and needless to say, this was one of the best stay forever. Hilton knows how to honor their guests except the Berkeley hotel staff are rude and intimidating. read more
