Very nice hotel with newer furnished rooms. Beds are comfy, desk area is very nice for the business travelers and always a benefit when there is a refrigerator. There's a sitting area as well so makes the room pretty spacious. For the bathroom, different layout than most Courtyards where the sink area is outside the bathroom it works although the counter space was quite limited. A big plus especially for this area is free parking and definitely lots of it. It's located more in Richmond than Berkeley but I liked that it was located near the freeway but not that close where you could hear the traffic. Unfortunately there weren't stores or restaurants with walking distance but they do have a bistro that serves breakfast and dinner and also a bar. Staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

Pros: Great location, near plenty of stores and restaurants. Stayed here 4 nights, 5 days in Nov 2025. Joshua at the front desk was very welcoming and kind. Property well maintained, clean, and area felt safe. Plenty of free parking. Nice bistro. Loved the breakfast plate with eggs, well seasoned potatoes and bacon. They also make a nice breakfast sandwich. Starbucks coffee is featured at the bistro as well, tasted great. Rooms are comfortable and best of all, warm. We went during Thanksgiving so the area can be cold, was nice to come back to the warm room. Comfy beds, slept very well, nice selection of TV channels with Netflix, Prime, Youtube available as well with your login as well as local channels. Areas of improvement: Our room was not cleaned at all for the first 3 nights. They only offer every "other" day cleaning so this was very disappointing to come back to an unattended room late after Thanksgiving with family. I even asked them to make sure to clean at the front desk on the way out! The couch and ottoman in the room are dirty. Visible stains on the cloth as well as the pillows. Did not want to sit on it at all. Bistro only has one person working the front. Eduardo was working his butt off and needs a serious raise!! During one of our mornings, there was a line of about 3 people so we opted to eat elsewhere because we read online it can take very long. Marriot, please have two people working the bistro. Poor guy was taking orders, making coffees, doing it all up front. Also, chairs in eating area were dirty, needed wipedown. Elevator needs repair, only 1 of 2 was working, and it wasn't very smooth. Very hurky jerky. It also needed major cleaning. The walls of the stainless door unclean. Elevator floor was also dirty. It looked like it was only vacuumed once during our stay. Need to fix the lights that number the floors as well, small things count! Thank you for the free breakfast coupon for not having cleaned our room, we did appreciate that. My stay was nice until the manager told me i had to give up my room because someone else reserved it. How can that be and my family has been here for almost a month.? Make that make Sense.. Room was nice but I asked for a room close to the elevator and while the lady said she had a room by the elevator I still ended up at the end of the hall. The gym sucks, it's missing weights and it was crazy hot I there. The worst part was the bar/food area. The lady had to be the rudest person ever... black lady with an attitude! I was nice, courteous, and even made it a point to be extra careful with my words but she just seemed to be hating life, her job or both.... I joined as a Marriott Bonvoy member recently due to the fact that I have traveled with my parents a lot, and they have been members for years. We've always had more than satisfactory experiences through Marriott, so I thought I was picking the right stay for me and my partner. We took a short trip to San Francisco, as we only live a few hours outside of the bay. I booked the hotel room over 3 weeks in advance, and I chose this property because of the early check in availability and the complimentary breakfast in the mornings. I requested check in for around 11 am, and we arrived at around 12:30 or so. When we entered the hotel the first time, there was absolutely nobody anywhere that we could find. There were no receptionists at either of the front desks, nobody behind the counter for food and coffee, not even a janitor. We stood there for at least 15 minutes without being helped or even greeted, and eventually we chose to go back out to sit in the car since we clearly were not going to be helped at the moment. I checked my app and realized it had not input my early check in that I had requested weeks ago, so we chose to request the soonest we could which was 1:45. We went and did some running around and arrived back at 1:50, and when we went inside again we were greeted by the same empty first floor of the hotel. We stood and waited for about 10 minutes this time, when finally we were greeted by a "checking in?" from a younger receptionist walking out of the back of the hotel. I said yes, gave him the booking information, and waited. When he saw I had booked a single bed, he gave me a very strange look and said "you didn't book a double bed?" When I said no, he gave me and my partner another very weird up-and-down, and then started typing again. When we arrived, there were a total of 4 cars in the parking lot. After a few seconds of silence, he told us "there are no king rooms available currently, I can let someone know and you can just check back". He didn't give us a timeline or an explanation as to why a room wasn't ready since I had already requested early check in 2 separate times at this hotel now. He was maybe a few years older than me, In his mid to late 20s I would guess, but clearly the age gap was still enough for him to talk down to me throughout the entire interaction. I didn't want to make a scene so I thanked him and we sat in my car for another 45 minutes until around 2:30. At that point, since all the rooms are supposed to be available for check in at 3 anyways, we figured we would try again. We entered the lobby again and waited another 10 minutes to be helped, and this time an older gentleman (I'm assuming maybe a manager?) and the same receptionist walked out of the back. The manager greeted us with a "are you guys coming to hang out with us?" and then immediately wandered back off into the back of the hotel. This time, the receptionist's tone was even more cold and he barely said anything to us. He sat down at the reception desk, started typing again, brusquely asked for my ID, shoved it back and me, and then shoved the keys at me and said "room number is on the back". Overall, it was a very disheartening experience for the beginning of our trip and for my first time personally booking through Marriott without my parents. When we came back late that night, the receptionist that had checked us in was gone and we didn't see him again. He didn't even have a name tag on so I can't directly include his name, and I didn't want to cause a scene by asking for it. The next morning, when we got up for the complimentary breakfast at around 7:30, we walked down to find nothing in the lobby. I'm not as concerned about the breakfast but it was just incredibly disappointing to me the treatment I received; it is upsetting to think that it was likely because I am a young woman, and also potentially because my partner and I are queer. My stay was good. It was a quick trip and only stayed one night. I liked that they had plenty of parking all around the building. The guy at the front desk was kind and helpful with questions we had like food spots nearby and check out times. The room looked great, our view was nice, looked out to the pool with large trees in direct line of sight that gave me a nice feeling of being in the outdoors. The location is close to the freeway which is nice but it did see weird that everything around the hotel was out of business. So we had to drive a little farther for stores and things. We stayed here because parking is free. It's ridiculous how even other Courtyard properties charge for parking. We should have maybe looked for another Marriott property that has free parking and breakfast but oh well. We are platinum so they upgraded us to a suite and gave us a $10 credit at the Bistro. Room had a horrible smell on entry like they were trying to mask smoking odor. We got used to it. Rooms are nice. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom is clean. Toilet had one of those commercial toilet seats with a notch in it which we thought was weird. I've seen less clean rooms at Westin hotels before. I rarely leave reviews but anted to make sure to leave in for this location and specifically the manager Viktor. I have been a longtime Marriott Bonvoy Elite member and realized I booked my room for the wrong dates using a non refundable pre paid rate. I just needed to shift the dates by a day and I was still going to be staying for the same length of time. After spending a long time on the phone with Marriott corporate they refused to modify my dates and were going to force me to pay for the night I was not going to be there. Inundated I made a mistake but as a total customer this felt like something that should be easily remedied. Later that day Viktor personally called me and modified my reservation and apologized for it not being immediately taken care of. Bonvoy was about to lose a costumer and Viktor stopped that from happening! I would highly recommend this location! read more

This has unfortunately been the most disappointing experience I've had at a Marriott-branded hotel--and I stay at a Marriott property at least twice a month for work. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt off. There were RVs and individuals living in their vehicles parked along the street, which didn't feel welcoming or secure. The front desk staff were not particularly friendly or engaging, and it seemed as though they hadn't received the standard Marriott 5/15 training. I specifically booked this stay to complete a work project, but the internet connection was extremely unreliable--cutting in and out every 10 minutes throughout the night. I contacted the front desk and was told they would reboot the system and asked me to wait a few minutes. After trying again with no improvement, I was then told to come down to the lobby to demonstrate the issue or possibly relocate within the hotel for better reception. At nearly 10 PM, being asked to leave my room just to find a functioning internet signal was unreasonable. In the end, I was unable to complete any of my work due to the unstable internet connection. This was my first and will be my last stay at this particular location. As a loyal Elite Bonvoy member who consistently books through the Bonvoy app, I expect a much higher level of service and consistency. If I return to this area in the future, I will likely have to consider a different hotel brand. read more

I met a friend here to discuss marketing and we were expecting there to be a restaurant on site, and there was, but they closed until 4pm. Boo! Enter the food and beverage manager with a kind offer to cook up something for me outside of their operating hours! So sweet! I politely declined and got lunch elsewhere and came back to meet with my friend to discuss business planning. Didn't stay in any rooms here, but their lobby was spacious and had tables and areas where conducting business was perfect! Once 4pm hit, snacks and drinks were ordered and appreciated! This is the first time I've ever actually left a review, but I felt it was needed. First of all, I have to compliment Jennifer at the front desk. She is very kind and will greet you with a smile. I have to say I was taken aback by how confident and composed she was. When checking into a hotel, you don't often expect employees to display a generous nature..I meeeean unless it's a 5 luxury hotel, but even then it's hit or miss lol...anyway she doesn't have the annoying "chil-fil-a" type of customer service either lol... she doesn't come off as if she's memorized a script... She seems very genuine. With that being said, my stay was nice. Renovations are currently underway, and my room seemed new/clean. I have to admit - I have never stayed in a Marriott that was in so much need of a face lift. First, as soon as I checked in, I was told that an email was sent informing about the repairs the place was undergoing (never got that email) - not a good sign. Even before, I arrived late and there was no place to park as tractor trailers and dumpsters had occupied several spots due to ongoing construction. The elevator, the room, the ceiling, the carpet, almost everything had decent wear. The tub faucet in room was leaky and the drip noise was muffled my a towel kept just below. How often do you get to see that at a Marriott? How often do you get to see that anywhere - period. Overall tho, the staff was still nice and welcoming. It's just the age, repairs, and the overall dilapidated feel made for a sub-par Marriott experience. read more

Absolutely horrible experience! I booked the room through Orbitz and stayed from December 30-31, 2023. When I checked in, I requested a quiet room on an upper floor. The woman at the desk said that was not possible and that there was only one room for my booking. The reservation through Orbitz was non-refundable. The room was located on the first floor, literally next to the restaurant kitchen and across from the gym. It had a single queen bed with no chair/couch/sitting area. It is likely the worst room in the hotel. Going into the evening, there was loud music coming from the kitchen. At 2AM, the car alarm outside went off. At 2:30 AM, the couple in the room next to mine were yelling at each other. At that point, I requested to switch rooms and got a much better one from a different person working the front desk. I wonder whether I was treated poorly by the initial person at the front desk due to being a person of color. read more

Parking - yes Uncomplicated wifi - yes Easy check in/out - yes Fridge - yes Mini store to have something that I forgot - yes Nice bathroom - yes Not scary - yes Outlets for all the things - yes Predictable - yes Nice enough that I'd stay here again - yes Individual soaps for sink washing but the shower had big refillable bottles mounted to the wall. Seems greener, so that's cool. There were a lot of families staying the same weekend as us so it seems that this place attracts that demographic- families. That's cool. Our family just came back from a recent hotel stay, and it was unacceptable. This hotel is fine inside, but accommodations for infants and the safety for guests is lacking. During our first night, we had to call to check on the status of our baby crib and no one picked up at the front desk and no one was at the front desk when we came down from the room. We had to wait for someone to help us and this was after 10pm. The baby crib was not brought to our room until after 10:20pm although we had requested it during check in. Finally and most importantly, the lack of security and surveillance is not fit for families. We had a terrifying incident the second night when we came back to the hotel at night and a stranger under the influence of narcotics had snuck up behind us as a family member was getting our baby out of the car. We separated ourselves and notified the staff. According to Marriott staff, the person later tried to come into the hotel saying they knew someone. Staff said there is no surveillance in the poorly lit parking areas and there is a problem with transients coming onto the property and many camping in the closed down chevys restaurant parking lot across the street. This was a terrible experience at this Marriott property. read more

I give the check-in staff 5 stars for allowing my family to check in early (7am!!) without extra charges. The 2 rooms I originally reserved (1 king + sofabed) were not available, so we got 2 rooms with 2 full beds (same size according to website). You can tell this was an old hotel with recent upgrades. BATHROOM: This was the most inconvenient part of the room bc the toilet and tub/shower were enclosed by a door, with the sink on the other side of that, without a door separating it from the rest of the room. There were no shelves in the bathroom, there was minimal counter space on the sink, and that entire corner of the room was extremely tight; if you were standing at the sink and someone came out of the bathroom, you'd get hit by the door. CLOSET: Hangers, about 10. Iron & board available. Luggage rack (I moved this into the bathroom to use as a "shelf"). Hair dryer. FRIDGE: There is no freezer. The cool air only stays on for 2 hours, until you turn it on again. Can fit 4 to 5 water bottles, not your hydroflask. Don't think about buying groceries or keeping your leftovers here. No microwave in the room, but there is one in the lobby for community use (free), and snacks for purchase. Small coffee maker for individual serving. BEDDING: Comfortable (although my daughter complained of multiple bites after the 2nd night, not sure if they were from the hotel). MISC: Wall outlets were inaccessible. Lamps had built-in outlets but most were loose. Only 2 usb plugs available throughout, which were located at the desk. A/C felt like it only maintained one temp regardless of what the thermostat read. Wifi info was not posted in the room, nor did front desk provide that to us; not worth asking as hotel wifi is usually not safe. Three dresser drawers. I don't recommend this room (1 king with sofabed OR 2 full beds) for more than 2 adults with 1 small child (under 14 years old) due to the partially open bathroom. You would not be able to fit a twin air matress if you wanted to sneak in more guests. Three people max, trust me!! Two people, if you value your privacy and space to breathe. Walls are thin, we could hear people talking (kids crying) in the hallway, and toilets flushing from the room above. This hotel should be converted to "families with small children only". Starbucks and food made to order available in the downstairs lobby. Snacks and drinks for purchase. Complimentary cookies and water. POOL: Open until 11pm but there are no signs posted, doors remained unlocked, lights stayed on; we were out there until 12:30am and no one checked on us or kicked us out. Room key needed to enter pool area. LOCATION: Non-touristy area with nearby shopping (including Walmart), banks, food (fast & sit down), and easy freeway access. Away from busy streets so it's quiet at night. Seems to be a safe area. Free parking and lots of space. read more

I had to do a last minute booking because our flight got moved to the following day and we needed a big space to pack all our stuff for a long haul flight back home. Found Courtyard in Richmond through my Marriot Bonvoy App and was able to book a newly renovated room with 2 Queen beds for me and my wife. Upon checking in I was greeted with all smiles by Simonette (even if it was around 11pm) already and she swiftly checked us in with a complimentary upgrade to a Suite! She made sure our quick stay was great and comfortable because she noticed we had a lot of luggage (20 day trip) and wanted me and my wife to have a convenient stay at the hotel. She was able to mention all the ameneties and questions I had were also answered. Will definitely book and stay in this hotel in the future for sure. Thank you Marriot. Your team here is amazing. Never ever thought I would have a reason to come here... but by 0750 yesterday, I was crossing its threshold....I'm going to run to end hunger in Richmond this year. I'm finally putting my mind to it, and signing up! Wanting very much to meet the staff of GRIP and hear some testimonials, I came here for a breakfast to get information, register, etc... Not a bad Courtyard at all....particularly refreshing is the front entrance restaurant/eating area, with plenty of outdoor umbrellas and tables. Given that it gets rather sunny/warm during this season, so apropos! Perched atop a hill in quiet, slowly dying Hilltop area, across the street from Chevy's (itself also dying a very slow death) Inadvertently passed the gym; as one would surmise, a sliver of a room with about 3 machines... does the trick, right? induces sweat, raises the HR. The food served was edible... certain items were quite good (bacon, one kind of pastry, fresh fruit)... others were shockingly 'cafeteria-like' (eggs, french toast). Coffee decent and hotel is clean. I was able to squeeze in an early morning workout across the street before continuing on my day of appointments yesterday. Chase, Mechanics, and BofA are across the street, for anyone who needs an ATM (as I did). read more

I've stayed at the Marriot a few times and it's always been pleasant but this has been THE WORST experience I've had at any hotel I've stayed at! BED BUGS!!! My family and I drove down to Berkeley from LA for a baptism. After being on the road for 7 hours we were obviously exhausted and ready to get some rest. My mother woke up at 7 AM only to find her legs and feet covered in bed bug bites!! We immediately called the front desk to notify them and asked to be moved to a different room because of course who would want to stay in the same room. The cleaning lady, who by the way was very nice and only doing her job, arrived shortly after. She arrived alone not with a manager which we asked for. My mom showed her the bites on her feet and legs and the lady gave her some alcohol strips and antibiotic cream. She then proceeded to undo the bed looking for "evidence." It's part of the process I'm guessing so I understood. She called someone on the phone stating she didn't find anything but that clearly my mom had been bitten by something. Whoever she was talking to on the phone, the manager I'm guessing, told her that since she didn't find any "evidence" my mom must have had an allergic reaction to something else that it wasn't bed bugs. First of all, whoever was on the other end of the phone was clearly not in the room to see my mothers legs and is not a doctor to automatically assume such a thing. At that point my mom started feeling very uncomfortable and upset at this whole situation. All we asked for was to be moved to a different room!!! We did not want anything else. The manager arrived after because obviously my mom was very upset. She was extremely rude which honestly is what bothered me the most about this whole thing. Instead of coming in trying to calm our nerves she came in talking to us in a very condescending tone, saying that because there was no "bugs" on the bed it was impossible that my mom was bitten that she was definitely allergic to something. She said this has never happened in our hotel before we don't have bed bugs. I work in costumer service and I would never treat someone the way this "manager" treated my mom. All she needed to do was accommodate us in a different room. My mother didn't need her to come and start diagnosing her and making her feel like she didn't know what she was talking about. This whole thing was ridiculous!!! The following night my mother ended up sleeping over a friends house because she didn't feel comfortable even coming back to the hotel. The rest of my family had no choice since we didn't have the time to find another hotel. After this whole ordeal, a phone call from the administration to make sure everything was okay would have been the least they could have done to show they somewhat care about their guests after a bad experience. But of course we didn't even get that. This whole situation put a bitter experience on our trip, I won't ever come back to stay here. read more

I stay in a ton of hotel rooms, and I tend to split my loyalties between IHG, Hilton, and Marriott "Bon-voy." (Seriously, how much did you pay a marketing genius to come up with that... Sorry, not here to review the name...) Anyway, if a hotel room is clean, quiet, has a comfortable bed, and smells nice, it gets an automatic four stars. And that's where I started with this review. There is only one way that a hotel can get that coveted fifth star from me... and that's if it has a nice showerhead. And, initially, the Courtyard Richmond originally got that fifth star. Set properly, the handheld showerhead would strip paint off of a 1959 Studebaker Lark. It was great. An exfoliating experience. Now, you will note the absence of five stars if you look up. This was unfortunate, and it was due to the fact that the entry hall light to my room was on a motion sensor. Seems innocuous enough... until you get up to go to the bathroom at 2:00 in the morning and your retinas burn off suddenly when that light turns on unexpectedly. Seriously, it's like Geordi LaForge's visor getting hit with the entire electromagnetic spectrum. At once. That's unfortunately why they lost my fifth star. If I could have docked them only a half of a star I would have. Seriously, if you need to stay in the North Bay, this is a great place to go. But remember to wear your Ray-Bans when you wake up to pee. read more

It is a decent location if you are planning to spend time in both Berkeley and Napa Valley and want to have a nice room but do not want to spend the high price tags of Napa Valley hotels (though you will be in your car a lot to get around). The hotel is located right off the freeway, which is very convenient. It is relatively small but decent. The rooms are a little outdated (in terms of decor), but they are clean and comfortable and have fresh linens as well as a nice room temperature. Internet access is also complimentary (so is parking). The walls are a little on the thin side, but I did not find it too obtrusive. They have a pool as well as an exercise center (the SFO Courtyard by Marriott in Oyster Bay's exercise center is open 24 hours while this one closes around 10:00 p.m. or so). I am not sure if there is a restaurant on site, but they do seem to have a bar/lounge. They have a little convenient store for snacks and drinks. Service was good and very friendly here. I found the service (as well as the hotel itself) better than the Courtyard by Marriott near SFO. I think the SFO Courtyard by Marriott has a better location though. This one is a little out of the way if you are planning to spend time in San Francisco (plus, you will have to deal with crossing the Bay Bridge, which can be quite congested during peak times). Overall, this is a good hotel for the money if the location (East Bay) makes sense for you. The free internet and parking are big pluses; however, those pluses are also available at other Bay Area Courtyard by Marriotts and they are around the same price per night. So if one of the other Bay Area Courtyard by Marriott locations has a more convenient location for you, you might want to consider one of them instead.
