I went to Double Take yesterday to have them look at two Judith Lieber bags that my Mom had left me. I met Sam, she was very sweet and knowledgeable. She researched the bags and told me what they are worth. I must say that everyone I came into contact with in that store was very kind and friendly. Purchased a pair of Dior heels online and it was listed online as size 38 but upon receiving it was actually a size 39 which was way too big for me. I requested a refund for the item and but was charged the shipping and return of the item. Overall left a bad taste in my mouth as they did not once apologize for the mistake on their part and they quietly changed the size online to reflect the correct size. Absolutely the worst. Do not consign with them. I've worked with other consigners who offer much better terms, a split of 70 / 30 regardless of brand. They do not put anything on sale without asking you first. They offer 30 to 60 days consigned versus a mandatory 90 days. Doubletake inflates the price online and marks down the same items in store. So if you are buying online, you are paying double the price. This store is not transparent and is deceiving. I called the store since my consigned items were approaching 90 days. I had been following my items progress online and saw that they were not yet sold. I called with the intention of letting them know that I will be picking up my items. They said they were putting them on a 50% off sale. I specifically told them I did not want my items to be a part of the sale which was my right to do, especially since they were sitting there for 90 days . They told me that they had already marked my items down, not once but twice and sold my items anyway. If you were a customer buying an item online, you as a customer were also being robbed. They were offering in store deals and we're not offering those same deals online. Beware, this company is not transparent and they are deceiving. It's also been discovered that they have not displayed items and then marked them down. I wonder, was it so they could buy it themselves at an extremely discounted price and then maybe resell it. In response to your note - I have the emails indicating that my merchandise was marked down 50% in store while the online price remained the same. You marked down my items twice at 50% read more

I visited the store today! This is a great opportunity for fabulous designer fashion. The store was well organized and clean. The store associates were all very nice and offered assistance. First, when went and brought in items, all were rejected, for not being high-end even almost all were purchased at Saks 5th Ave. They do not accept so many designers, find out before you lug in your items. They only accepted 2, but only put one on the floor for sale, was not contacted about this. Ok, the one item sold. Was not contacted of sale. And had to contact several times to figure out how to get paid. Of course it sold at the highest discount. I suppose they sold the item for $100 Which I was given $50. Well, they won't cut a check for under $51unless they extract $5. So I asked if I came in would they pay in cash they do not pay in cash.I felt as if it was a struggle to be paid. It was not a pleasant experience. In the end I drove there. And was only charged a dollar for the check cutting fee. I won't be consigning again. Real Real for me. read more

Saw an ad in an "In Touch "magazine for this place - featuring the online store. Ordered a pair of Dior sunglasses. There were problems from the start. It said free shipping. I paid the total invoice. No problem. I get an email a few days later saying it wasn't free shipping to Canada. So I Paypal the shipping charges. They send me another invoice for the shipping. I try to contact them numerous times via phone, and email. They resend the shipping invoice. I once again try to contact them every means possible. Over a month had now passed. Finally they get ahold of me and tell me the order has been placed. When I finally get the sunglasses, I am disappointed to find out that they are not in "like new" condition. The arm is so loose it's almost falling off. I don't even bother trying to send back for a refund. For a " High End reseller " I got the opposite in customer service and product. This place really left a bad taste in my mouth and I really wanted to like it. But the high pressure sales and the assumption from the sales associate that I couldn't afford to buy their items at retail price was insulting. I was even offered a layaway plan that I didn't even ask about. Aside from that, the "discount" wasn't even worth it. A Moncler coat for $50 cheaper than it is at Neiman Marcus didn't make much sense to me. read more

My experience with DoubleTake has been strictly as a shopper (and not as a consigner), thus my review is only reflective of that one-sided experience. Located in a strip mall on the border of Millburn/Short Hills, Summit, and Springfield - DoubleTake offers an extensive assortment of designer clothing, shoes, and accessories (handbags, etc.). During my shopping experience(s), it quickly became evident to me that DT knows quality - their inventory is top-of-the-line, designer stuff...and WOW, is it impressive! DT provides more of a boutique-feel than a thrift store vibe, which makes for an extremely pleasant shopping experience. During the few times I've shopped at DoubleTake, the staff has been extremely friendly and accommodating, as well. But the clothes. THAT's what DoubleTake does best! With thousands of consigners in the North/Central Jersey area, the store gets some truly exquisite pieces. While the prices can be somewhat steep, they are certainly better than shopping retail. Still - if you're like me and have a tight budget, just wait for the items to go on sale (double markdowns anyone?), and THAT's where you can really score! I'm talking 90-95% MSRP...YES PLEASE!! DoubleTake also has some great sales, at various times of the year (Columbus Day, etc.), and keeps regular shoppers "in the know", via email and phone. Regulars can also sign up to acquire points, and eventually become "VIP" shoppers (shop pre-sales, etc.). Ultimately, from what I've gathered about DT - the employees treat their shoppers well, and there are plenty of opportunities for a good "steal". So...if you love designer clothes, but don't love their prices, DoubleTake is for you! The quality of their merchandise simply can't be beat! read more

I have been consigning & purchasing luxury bags from Doubletake for over 10 yrs. Their staff has always been friendly & helpful whether dealing with them in person or on the phone. Special thanks to Alisha in Red Bank! The designer bags I have purchased over the years are beautiful & were always better than their pictures. I have never returned one because I was unhappy or disappointed. I have also sold many items & felt they were honest & fair. Worst experience ever! The Store manager needs to learn not to be so prejudice and realize that if it weren't for the consignors she wouldn't have a business. There should be a sign on the door that reads Short Hills residences only. Store owner is an absolute snob, for someone who is selling worn clothing for a living she should be more down to earth. I recently went to consign a few items that I had: brand new, never worn with tags type of items. I had 2 Michael Kors dresses with tags that they would not take because they do not carry that particular label of MK (unreal). After all of my items were reviewed, only 3 were "good enough" to consign, the brands consisted of True Religion (these jeans were altered for length at the bottom, but still with tags) Coach, and Juicy Couture. A week later I receive a call from the SM asking if the jeans had been altered, and I said yes b/c they were. She said, " well I'm having a hard time finding these, where were they purchased? Do you have a receipt?" So at this point she is insinuating that I have stolen these jeans and proceeds to ask me the same in regards to the juicy couture wallet! She then told me that it would be best if I picked up all of my things. This store has items with stains on them but my brand new items with tags on them were not good enough for this store owner. It's terribly sad that people like this still exist. I can only hope that other consignors will read my post and run in the other direction!! read more

Ok -- first the good part. I've found incredible pieces at this place. Manolo Blahniks, Prada and Gucci suits and a Furla bag that was the envy of all who surveyed -- all at less than what I'd pay for rent. Which, if you know about buying those things for the real price is a damn good deal. The bad part -- a few years ago, they disolved the online store through which I purchased all of those pieces, leaving only the bricks and mortar location. That's in New Jersey, which has put quite a damper on my purchasing power over the years. Not surprisingly, I've not been able to muster the energy to trek to Short Hills...not even for Jimmy Choo. I might be more enticed to head out there if I could actually get a straight answer from the women who work there as to whether they have anything worth the car rental/bus fare/travel time. The last few times I've called they've been wholly unhelpful and, at times, downright surly. That said, if you're taking a turn on the turkpikes of Jersey and find yourself near Short Hills stop by and pick up a Prada...or Marc...or Balenciaga. I had an absolutely terrible experience with DoubleTake. There was poor communication from them every step of the consignment process, from timing to pricing to ultimately settling my account. I had to call multiple times to follow up on the next step, and after having been provided inaccurate information, they sold my Christian Dior clothing for $50. A total embarrassment. To add insult to injury, they only decided to pay me for it when I followed up two months later. They have 'cut' me a check, but I have yet to receive it two weeks later. Don't waste your time--donate your clothes to a friend or organization who would appreciate it or find a resale shop that has a modicum of professionalism. read more

I have told my friends not to patronize them ever. I shopped and consigned for a while (mostly shopped) I put a $100 deposit on a Fendi Bag, I got laid off. I called and spoke to my sales person, asked for an ext. called back and was told by a rude manager, sorry the rule is we don't refund. Are you kidding me, I did not want a refund just a credit to use in the future. I communicated and now this. Well, a few wks later I went back to work with a bonus. My experience at Double Take has been quite positive. I have been there off and on several times, and would probably be there more often if my work was in that direction. I have seldom let the store without a purchase. I have gotten some steals in here and they have a variety of inventory from high end to everyday wear ranging from J. Mclaughlin to Theory to Ralph Lauren. I have purchased clothing, outerwear, shoes and boots (more than i care to admit) and i have always been treated warmly when i enter the store. I find the staff quite helpful and my favorite thing is that little red pen line going through the price because i know i have truly gotten a steal. read more

I purchased this "size 6" shoe from Double Take. To my surprise the shoe is size 6 but NARROW. There was no indication in the description that the shoe was 6N, which implies that size 6 would be 6M. I called the store with and left a message, and emailed several times with no response. I simply gave up and will give the shoe away to goodwill. I buy and sell at DoubleTake. As a buyer I can pick up both wow pieces (Chanel jacket) and wardrobe workhorses (Theory pants) at a steep discount to retail. As a seller I can turn my closet back into cash. DoubleTake helps me be more thoughtful when shopping at department stores. I can buy more expensive classic pieces knowing that if I keep it in good shape I can sell it in a few seasons. There are a few comments about sales staff from other reviewers. I find everyone to be very helpful but I am there all the time and have gotten to know them. It's not a comfortable feeling when you are a first time seller and they are looking over your clothe so carefully. On the flip side I buy their clothe with no worries about stains or rips because I know how careful they are. Their sale days are fun. There are lines before the door open!! read more

It is a wonderful store. As an owner of a store just like this in another town, I too am sometimes subject to similar reviews and thought to shed some light from an owners point of view. In the case of DT, it has only so much space and a demographic of a specific clientele. For a store in Short Hills, typical clientele are unfortunately not looking for many of todays contemporary brands. I know when people are going to the Short Hills mall, they're looking to do some serious spending so the contemporary brands where people complain about the prices they get is solely because the shoppers are not seeking it. I've turned away contemporary brands for years and I still receive bad reviews for declining a client's items. I too have a certain audience and only so much space, if I was to take everything brought to me I would have no space and tons of things I can not sell, everything else that is good becomes lost amongst the stuff that won't ever sell. There is a store for everyones needs. High end items do well in certain stores and in others they do not. Some stores do great with contemporary brands, other stores do not. It is always helpful to google search to find a store that generally sells the brands you possess. I have met the owner of this store and she is truly a sincere nice, and fair woman. She has been around for a long time while other stores like hers have not. And remember, just because someone has a few bad reviews does not make them bad. There is likely 20k customers who have gone here in the last few years and they didn't come here to get something off their chest? read more

I've consign with DT for several years. This last experience has left me uneasy with their professionalism. First I consign a pair of almost new Gucci shoes that were purchased at a Gucci store in Milan. After being in display in the ridgewood store for at least two weeks, they were removed because a manager didn't think they were real. Also consigned several mint condition ST. John pieces....they sold two pieces for pennies on the dollar. I would have preferred to keep the items if I had known they were going to almost give them away. I wish someone had reviewed about their consignment experience before I did business with the Short Hills store. I feel I'm doing a public service by warning you all to take your things elsewhere. I am an experienced consignor - I've been using 2 places near my home in Somerset County for years. But, I though given DT's more exclusive location, some of my higher end items might fetch a better price there, so I gave it a try. Huge mistake. I just got my check for $50 for 3 items: a perfect condition Coach bag sold for $52, Brand new $240 Diesel jeans sold for $43 and they sold a gorgeous $100 belt for $5!!!! Horrible experience! I've been in this shop several times. It's well kept and clean. However, after my trip this morning, there is no way I will return to this particular DoubleTake location ever again. After I entered, I headed straight toward the Burberry rack and looked at a trenchcoat. I then turned to my brother and mother and said, "I think this trench is fake." One sales associate heard me and rudely replied, "It's not fake. Do YOU work at Burberry?" She then proceeded to walk to the back of the store and bitch about me. Talk about unprofessional. First, if I was wrong, I'd gladly own up to it. Second, this crazy sales associate obviously doesn't work for Burberry either. I don't have to work for a brand to be able to tell if something is real or not. After that, I just left the store. I wish I had called the sales associate out for her disrespect or at least talked to the manager. All I remember is that the sales associate had long, straight brown hair and an abundant amount of forehead wrinkles for someone who couldn't be older than 35. The shop would not refund money and even refused store credit. Sales staff extremely rude. Management has no ethics. Blatant disregard for accountability. After being one of the first on line to shop at this store when they opened their doors in 1992, I regret that I will not longer be a patron. Items that were supposed to be for VIP only sale, starting at 5pm, were sold at the discounted price before that time, so not everyone got a shot at what they wanted. This is not where I wish to spend my money. That, along with other issues, played into this decision. Just imagine. you walk in the door, someone says we have THE coat for you! they bring it out, you love it, it fits, but is not priced yet. You say Want It - they say, we'll put yur name on it. You are never called that it is priced - it just gets put on the floor and tonight you watch it go to someone else. Oh well, exactly what my Mom used to do :) Too Bad. Used to be an awesome place. I've been coming here for years and have never once had a bad experience. No snob factor - even though their merchandise is couture. Staff is great at offering advice when asked, but never hovering. It's also great because you can literally spend 2 hours in there whether you buy something or not -- I feel that comfortable in the store. Definitely check it out. read more

I must admit, I love this store. My wardrobe has been greatly enhanced with some very nice pieces at very good prices. Pre-shop before their sales and take your chances that the very pretty, never-out--of-style Armani Collezioni pants suit will be there when even further reduced in price during the sale. Whoohoo. I had a wedding coming up and needed to find the right dress. I stopped by Doubletake Boutique on my way to the mall. I was so happy to find a decent selection of dresses in my size, unfortunately most did not look great on me. The girls were great, they searched high and low looking for more options and finally found me the perfect dress. I can't say enough about how helpful the staff was. I had the pleasure of visiting 3 different DoubleTake locations while I was on a business trip in NJ. These high end consignment stores are amazing! They have a variety of items to look through and if you are lucky enough to find your size, you can rest assured that you are getting an awesome deal! One of the locations actually stayed open 20 minutes later than they should have because the girls knew that I was visiting the area and they wanted me to take my time and shop. The staff at all of the locations were extremely helpful and actually brought items in my size to the fitting room for me to try on because I was in such a rush! I ended up scoring an amazing handbag and a few pairs of designer jeans that were in brand new condition! While I was at one of the locations, I saw a fabulous Prada bag and made the mistake of leaving the store without purchasing it. I kept thinking about the bag and decided to go back the next day to get it. I had a 45 minute drive ahead of me and got stuck in horrible traffic and was not going to make it to the store in time. I called the location and explained the situation to Kara. Kara advised me to purchase the bag online and she offered to personally deliver the Prada bag to the hotel that I was staying at! She knew how badly I wanted the bag and she realized that there was not another time that I could go pick it up. Kara literally took time out of her busy day and drove the bag to me! my experience is less tthan favorable. they will accept your item for consignment without giving you any idea what they will sell it for..promising to send you a printout....which you won't receive and than just send you a check for 30 dollars for 3 handbags..which believe me they wouldn't accept unless up to their designer labels I feel robbed, without a gun...less than ethical. one bag I actually purchased from them for $78. they claim to have sold for $20 and sending me $10. believe me, you can not walk in there and buy anything for $20 they are unethical and demeaning read more

I recently took the trip into NJ since one of my friends suggested it. WHAT a mistake the store smells and dressing rooms are dirty. The SM was oblivious to any customers in the store as she spoke to employees in a degrading unprofessional manner so bad that I had to intervene and let the curly hair nut know that it was unprofessional to speak to any employee in that manner especially in public. She looked like a deer in headlights walk into the back of the store and said nothing. Apparently she did not care about me or any of the other customers in the store. My first and last time. I think I'll stay in NY, and they say we New Yorkers are the ones without the manners!! read more

They sell multiple faux Chanel bags in the englewood branch and possibly other branches, this is after hearing multiple bad experiences. I know a woman that purchased, or thought she purchased, an authentic Chanel bag and Chanel confirmed it was a replica. The woman tried to get her money back, $2k, and the store wanted to only give her store credit!!! The store eventually gave a refund only after the woman threatened to sue. I believe this is because the store knows they are pushing fakes as the real deal....I eventually went into the short hills location to see what they offered there and to my surprise the owner was "helping" me. Although they do have a marvelous selection, I felt like the owner was only being nice to get a sale from me. It was VERY uncomfortable the entire time. I wanted it to be a great place to find rare AUTHENTIC pieces but alas I will spend my money elsewhere at a place I know I can trust and not feel as though an owner is just as fake as the merchandise. read more
