We dropped by to grab a bite before heading to the gym. We ordered at the front and then sat down…read moreat a table. We got the oxtail and jerk chicken plates. The oxtail was very flavorful and rich and went well with rice and vegetables. It kind of reminded us of mole sauce. The jerk chicken had a strong spice and vinegar flavor so it was different from what I am used to but the meat was moist and very filling. I tried the sorrel drink for the first time and it was delicious. It kind of tastes like pomegranate juice. I would definitely come back if I was in the area but keep in mind that the prices are not cheap.

Taste of the Caribbean really understood the assignment!…read more I ordered the steamed fish, and I have to give the chef his credit. I explained exactly how I wanted it prepared, including all my little requests, and he delivered exactly what I asked for. The fish was seasoned just right, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. You can tell when a chef actually listens to the customer and this one did! The ackee and saltfish was another favorite. Well-seasoned, packed with flavor, and cooked just the way it should be. Add some rice and those sweet fried plantains, and that plate was definitely giving authentic Caribbean comfort food. If I'm not mistaken, I've tried almost everything on their menu, and I've never been disappointed not even once. I also loved the atmosphere. There's something about the music, the décor, the warmth, and the overall Caribbean feel of the place that makes you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy your meal. It has that laid-back island energy that you don't have to force it's just there. If you're looking for good Caribbean food, generous flavor, and a vibe that feels warm and familiar, Taste of the Caribbean is definitely worth checking out.

Last time I was at BMH, I didn't get a chance to try Caribbean Gourmet (CG). Yesterday was the day. Parking was easy behind the building. Comfortable shared community seating available inside and outside. Restrooms are near the front entrance of the BMH. CG offers comforting soul foods with bold flavors of authentic Caribbean and Guyanese cuisines. Their simple menu includes chicken plates, patties (empanadas like), pastries, and drinks. Oxtail stew, jerk chicken, chicken and vegan curries, and freshly made roti are some of their signature dishes. Since it was my first time trying them, I got the Jerk Chicken. Wow, it was one heavy plate! One deliciously tender chicken drumstick + thigh over aromatically flavored coconut rice and peas. Spice level was perfect! Veggies and roasted plantains were fantastic. Absolutely a plate of tasty goodness! Highly recommend for first time and returning customers. I would get it again for sure. Prices were reasonable for the great portions. Staff was super friendly and nice. Thank you Miss! CG is one of the best food options at BMH. I'm planning my return to try their other signature dishes soon. If you haven't tried them, don't wait any longer. It's the real deal Caribbean and Guyanese!

Everything is handmade fresh in-house and the owner is literally the sweetest and gave me a bunch of stuff to try. Of course gotta start with the iconic beef patty which was nice and chubby and had a flakey pastry with ground beef inside. Their roti was super soft and flakey and paired perfectly with their warm spiced super tender curries. The plates come with rice, stewed cabbage, sweet fried plantains and a protein. The jerk chicken was nice and Smokey while the oxtail was super tender and juicy. They had a catering order too that day so gave me some of their special chow mian to try which had veggies, yummy chicken, and was super flavorful. Overall this place was pretty good. Oxtail plate $28 Jerk chicken $20 Curry with roti $19 Beef patty $6

I have had the pleasure of trying this truck twice. The first time I tried the chicken curry, and…read morethe second time I tried the shrimp curry. Both were amazing and I had it over rice, as I am not a fan of Roti. It is not a spicy curry like I am used too in Jamaican or Indian style dishes, which is a wonderful change as it seems the older I get I cannot take the heat. Instead it is creamy, and dare I say sweet. While it needs nothing, the tamarind and mango chutney are both worth a try. The truck also lives up to its name serving your food almost immediately after ordering. I had to take away a star for their portion size. It is not a full lunch even though they offer small and large. This comes from someone who does not eat much! I expected to order the large and maybe have some left overs (Most Caribbean portion sizes are a lot bigger and include sides like cabbage, salad and/or plantains). I could see the plates were served in a styrofoam container with three pockets. So my expectations were a lot bigger. As soon as I picked it up plate was noticeably light. They only use the main pocket and it is barely full. I expect more from a large portion of anything. I have a picture with my fork sticking in it for reference. It taste amazing but leaves unsatisfied and yearning for more.

Only a few pieces or chicken and a very small serving of rice. The roti was horrible. A rolled up piece of bread in a small piece of aluminum foil with zero taste. Never eating at this truck again. After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.
