Boarded our newer rescue dog over the 4th of July holiday. Was worried for the fireworks but in this area, it's gotta be learned. Drop off day: super easy, efficient & spent time answering questions we had. Friendly taking her away from us & smooth hand off. Had a few more questions after we left & Tina was helpful over the phone. Pick up day: we opted to have her groomed (1 less thing on a busy momma's back - especially after a vacation) so they did explain pick up would be mid afternoon. They called when she was ready for pick up - sooner than I expected but yeah! We missed her! Pick up was a breeze other than her being super excited seeing us. I appreciated the explanation of the charges & receipt. They gave us a great summary of her time there so it put me at ease with the fact we left her. Bri helped us out to our car & was great at both drop off & pick up. Great option for a small & intimate facility. They do only take cash or check so for those who never carry those options, be prepared! But they can provide an estimate of things if needed so you can prepare for it. Would be GREAT if CC was an option but if not, it won't change my choice to go here. I appreciate that dogs are taken out on their own vs a group setting. Not all dogs are able to play in a group well so this put me at ease to avoid any situation where she or another dog could cause a situation. Staff was friendly & seemed to genuinely be there for the dogs. Clean & welcoming setting. Was surprised that it didn't smell like dogs - even outside. I'd never left my boy Prince anywhere before and we thought we were going to be able to take him with us but his car sickness and anxiety were too much to take to Big Bear Lake. Anyway TINA agreed to take him on short notice and board him for 4 days! I got shutout by all the other kennels because it was too late or because he was not neutered yet. We have 4 dogs so finding a great boarding facility was very important to us. The people running the kennel are very professional. We came by to look it over before we decided on boarding with Double T. They were very nice and accommodating. We have 2 German Shepherds, a Frenchie and a tiny poodle. Each dog received the care we expected they would get. They have nice facilities outside, the kennels are all in the shade, and they are arranged in a big circle so all the dogs can see each other. Our tiny poodle Willow was kept in a crate in the office, and got to sleep on nice comfy blankets. The owner even gave us a discount for Willow, which we didn't expect. We felt totally comfortable leaving our babies in their care. We recommend Double T for their care and expertise. read more

I researched the heck out of kennels on the internet anywhere near my area with reasonable prices, but also one with nice facilities. I was planning my vacation and would be gone for 2 weeks in November. 14 days at a kennel can easily get expensive. Many of the places I looked into charged about $40 a day, which was another $560 tacked onto an already expensive vacation. Luckily, I found Double T Kennels. At $30 a day, plus a 10% rescue discount (for my mutt, that's $27, $378 total, a savings of $182), they were the most reasonably priced kennel. The reasons I picked their kennel, despite it being a long drive from Westwood: -Smaller kennel, fewer dogs, so hopefully more attention and care. -It was clean, had a grassy area in the middle. When I visited, it was not smelly. -The owner is professional, sat down with me and my husband and gave us great information on crate training and on dog food. -They are Alaskan Malamutes breeders and enter dog shows, so I got the impression they were very knowledgeable and would take good care of my hound. -They feed their dogs and boarding dogs, a high quality food, Eagle Pack, which I now buy and feed Jack. He LOVES it. Google it. It is so much better than popular brands. Other kennels offered Pedigree at best. -They don't charge you for the day if you drop off your dog at 7 PM or pick it up by noon. The kennels are fairly roomy and clean, set up in a U shape, with a fenced in grassy are in between. I called to check in and they returned my message and let me know Jack was adjusting to the kennel fine. (He barked a lot when I dropped him off, so I was worried.) When I picked Jack up, they took a moment to clean him up and when I saw him, he smelled fresh and looked happy and healthy. He definitely was fed well. I daresay he may have put on a few pounds there. When the owner stooped down to pet him, Jack wanted to get close, so I know he was treated nicely. All in all, for the value, I think Double T is a place you can board your dog with peace of mind. read more

I came to Double T based on the recommendation of student who worked for Double T. We have never been disappointed in both the staff and Tina. We booked our two rescue mutts for 2 weeks, but had to come back early because of illness. Never mind that we did - no recrimination, no extra fees - just the same friendly and helpful service we always get. Our dogs do not come home traumatized as they have from other kennels. We can see where they are kept. It's obvious that everyone likes dogs - and they run a Malamute Rescue as well. What can I say? Good care and caring about the well-being of animals. Always a great kennel. I started coming here maybe 10 (or 15?) years ago with my German Shepherds and other dogs, and I still find this the best kennel situation possible for a dog. They have big, outdoor covered gravel runs (dogs hate concrete!) which are situated around the large grassy turnout area so the dogs have something to look at during their confinement--so important to them! Prices are very fair, too. If you have to use a kennel, this is the best one around. You needn't feel quite so guilty about going on vacation! read more

I have been boarding my dogs at Double T for 26 years now (as of 12-18-17), from my first rescue husky to my subsequent border collies (from Border Collie Rescue of California). With my first husky, I tried a number of kennels, all "high-end" types-- from "resorts" to fancy "hotel" style kennels (which were pricey, even without all the extra charges!). The cleanest ones were a steambath inside (constant washing= water+heat of L.A.+enclosed area). My dog always came back miserable and stressed and I hated boarding her at any of them. Enter Double T Kennels: not "fancy", but DTK is everything right-- from a dog's point of view: open, spacious kennels in the fresh air of Simi Valley, a large exercise yard in the middle of the ring of kennels with thick grass and friendly staff playing with them often throughout the day. During the 4th, they play loud music and do their best to distract the dogs there until the fireworks end! They also have ways to take care of very senior dogs and little dogs (VIP indoor service!) in cozy, quiet room. They only feed them high-end kibble (ie, no brand you can buy at a grocery store; ALL the grocery store available brands are cr*p, just do the research!). They also manage to give medicines when necessary (they have mad skills there). If you'd like them groomed before pickup, they will take your dog to "Land of Paws", the best groomer I've ever used (and I found them via DTK's use!) I hate boarding my best buddies, but at least I can do it guilt-free at Double T! read more

My husband and I left our dog Cody here for our wedding weekend. In the midst of wedding planning, there are millions of details to think about. We wanted Cody in our ceremony, but then realized both our hotel options were not dog friendly. We devised all different plans to transport Cody back to our home or leave him at a relative's home that was close by. Then we decided to look into boarding near our venue. My husband was able to make the arrangements. We were given certain drop off and pick up hours. Our friend had no issues dropping Cody off the night of our wedding. When we came to pick him up the next day was the first time I saw the facilities. They have numerous kennels so it didn't appear overcrowded and a spacious grassy area. Cody was cleaned up a bit before being released to us. He was energized and happy to see us, and didn't seem anxious or nervous at all (which he has been at other kennels). I have been bringing my dogs here for the last 20 years---all of them, Akitas and Leonbergers and would never consider using any other place. These people take such good care of my dogs, I think they are not as happy to come home as they are to go there! They know when we are approaching the off ramp on the freeway that they're going for a mini vacation and the excitement is palpable! Its small enough for personal attention and when you are a regular like me, the staff knows everything about your dog which makes me feel confident that if something were to go wrong (God forbid) with a health issue, they would recognize it just as quickly as I would at home. The quality of the food they feed, unless you bring your own, is equal to or better than most owners provide, along with treats and plenty of exercise. Perhaps the most important thing about boarding at this kennel is the owners are on the premises because they live there. I feel so blessed that I can take vacations or trips where my dogs cannot go and know, without doubt, they are happy and well cared for. Its worth any price but even their prices are moderate. Let me start off by saying if the owner Tina had handled the situation in a more graceful manner, our outcome would have been differently. We had our 2 pups stay here while we went out of town for a couple days. The facility was clean and they seemed to have had quite a bit of dogs there. It's located in a residential neighborhood right off the freeway. We started with the paperwork aspect of it, and providing proof of the shots record for both dogs. Since we boarded 2 dogs we got a multi-dog discount which was nice. Well when my husband came back to pick the dogs up, he arrived and an employee was watering the pavement/sidewalk leading up to the office down to clean it. Well he walked through the sidewalk to get the dogs and upon leaving fell down on the property due to the water/slippery floor. He came home a bit in pain from it and explained to me what had happened. I was in shock that it had happened. Well I called to let Tina know what happened and she became extremely defensive over the phone accusing my husband of lying claiming it couldn't have happened on her property. She was actually yelling at me on the phone. I was shocked that a business owner would respond in such a distasteful manner. Well if only they had a better safety protocol this wouldn't have happened. When an employee is watering the floor knowing that dog owners are coming for pickup/drop off, to execute a safer way of walking through the property without causing the possibility of falling due to slippery wet pavement. Such as meeting at the gate, or having owners walk through the house inside the office. Now we hire pet sitters to care for our pets. Also just wanted to note that they only accept cash/check which seems suspicious. read more

My dogs have been going to Double T Kennel for about 7 years now. The owners are wonderful to work with, even when faced with last minute boarding needs. Their kennel is clean and very well run. I really like that the dogs get to play outside of their own kennel every day. Every employee that I have met has a great personality. When I bring my two dogs, they always put them in the larger kennel, which is plenty big enough. Whenever I leave my dogs here, I feel very comfortable that their needs are being met, and since it is a smaller kennel, the dogs get more personal attention. One cool thing about the place is that they let you drop off the dogs the night before for no extra fee! The prices they charge are very reasonable and they offer many discounts. My dogs are always happy and healthy when I pick them up. I usually book my vacations around when they have availability, that's how much we value Tom and Tina! read more

My dog has anxiety and has not done well at other kennels because of how loud she is and how she panics when we leave and is left with other dogs she doesn't know. Double T handled my dog's situation so well though, and the way their business is set up makes it very easy to accommodate nervous dogs like mine. They have separate shaded enclosures surrounding a grassy play area, where each dog gets their own space while being able to see/sniff other dogs in the neighboring enclosures and in the play area. Then they let the dogs out either individually or if they get along well, together, into the play area. My dog always has a blast, one of the handlers even took pictures of my dog playing and being happy and texted them to me while I was on vacation so I didn't worry about how she was doing. When I bring her home she's always so exhausted from a long day of playing. And whenever I bring her back again to the kennel, she instantly recognizes and loves on the handler, which says a lot coming from my nervous dog. The rates are very reasonable too! They give discounts for rescued dogs, which is very nice. And they offer a grooming service for pretty reasonable prices (my dog is a shepherd/husky and they did a full groom and trim for $50). She smelled great and didn't shed as much for a few weeks. Overall 10/10. Sad that I can't use Double T anymore because we moved away, but if I were still in the area I totally would. read more

The most professional place I've been to and the owners are true dog lovers. My boyfriend and I brought our two 'children', to Double T before we headed off to Vegas for work. We had never boarded our dogs with them before and I was a little nervous (despite the positive YELP reviews). Tom, the owner, sat us down and instantly our minds were at ease. He knows a ton about dogs and vaccinations and the best foods to feed your pet. When we returned, one of our pups had hurt his foot...and to our surprise...Tom made sure that he was taken to the vet and cared for. It is clear from all the wonderful care they provide to the animals staying at their establishment...that they really are NOT in it for the money, like so many other kennels are. They are in it for your pet FIRST. They made that quite evident. We'll definitely be back. read more

First time I had to leave my 1 yr old dog. Met with Tom and Tina ahead of time and they are great people. They took the time and care to make the week away from home for Colton a good week. They spend over an hour working with him the first day when he was scared and unhappy until he was content and comfy. All inclusive with food, treats, blankets and even sweaters for chilly days and nights. (Colton is a Cheagle and has no under coat.) Highly recommend and will be using them the next time. read more

If I could give this lady a negative 5 stars, I would. I boarded two very small dogs in July 2020. I asked if she could groom them before I returned from my trip. I came back a day early, and called her that morning the moment the kennell opened, 10am. She not only admitted to boarding my dogs elsewhere, probably because she said her neighbors are furious over dogs barking constantly, but she would not let me pick up the dogs until 6pm that night. (8 hrs after my return. ) because they were nowhere to be found at her property. I had no choice but to call the police. The police got my dogs back around 330pm. She NEVER said she wasnt keeping my dogs on her property! BTW She only accepts cash, beware!!! most likely the other place she takes them is not licensed. And the animal control in SV says she can only have 4 dogs max. She had 7 dogs...... read more

I absolutely LOVE Double T Kennels! It's a family owned business that specializes in malamutes, but all breeds are welcome to board here. We first contacted them when we were looking to add a third furbaby to our pack a year before we used their boarding services. While we didn't adopt from them, they were very helpful when it came to making a final decision. Tina is a nutrition buff and was very helpful with how to get one of our dogs to a healthy weight. We boarded our three furbabies (a 9 year old female husky, a 3 year old male husky/mal mix, and a 1 year old "Alaskan husky") when we went on a week long family vacation. Tom was a pleasure to work with. He answered all of our questions without a hitch. He provided updates as necessary, and even posted pictures of them on their Facebook page so we could see how they were doing, and they were so happy! They give discounts for multiple dogs & rescued dogs. They feed the dogs they board Taste of the Wild, which our dogs love! Each dog/family of dogs has their own kennel, and they give them separate play time, so you don't have to worry about if the temperament of your dogs matches the temperament of another. If we ever go on another family vacation we will happily drive out of the way to board our dogs here. read more

I was looking for a place to take care of my dog, Cody, during my wedding weekend in Simi Valley and I found Double T Kennels through Yelp. I was a little worried since Simi Valley doesn't have a great selection of places to choose from and I was limited to only a few options. I was surprised Simi Valley's Pet Smart did not even have a Pet Hotel. My wedding was being held at, The Vineyards in Simi Valley, and fortunately Double T Kennels is located only 1 mile away. A few weeks from my actual wedding I met with the owner, Tom, and we discussed particulars such as operating times to pick-up and drop-off, shots requirements, and type of dog so they can make the proper arrangements for his stay. I felt very assured that they were going to do a good job for Cody's stay. I arranged for my pet, Cody, to be dropped off by one of my friends at the wedding. The drop-off went seamlessly and my friend was back at the reception like he never left. The next morning I came over to pick-up Cody at the kennel. The true test for any dog owner is to see the behavior from your dog. Cody came out full of energy and very happy to see us and that was a very good sign. The owner, Tom, had one last gift for us, as a tradition for any couple that gets married in the area(i won't ruin it for anyone else that gets married here), and let's just say Danielle and I were grateful to receive the gift. We used Double T Kennels several years ago during the week of our wedding/honeymoon. The facility (which is a home with property is nice, clean and the staff is friendly/personable. It feels like your dropping the kids off at a family members house. Now about four years later, we are getting ready to use them again. I made an appointment with Double T Kennels approx 2 weeks ago for my two dogs to stay from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. I had to make an appointment in order for me to drop my two dogs off. Upon arriving, I walked into the office with two plastic bags and full directions for my dogs to be fed from with a measuring cup included. My dogs are both approx 10 1/2 years old and are in good health. I was told by the woman who owns the Kennel that she was not going to feed them from the bags that I dropped off, because that food was not good enough for her to feed them with. This food can be found in most grocery, and pet stores. It is quality food. Several months ago, I left my two dogs with them, the same regimented dog food was given to them. When I got back from my trip back then, the husband told me he did not feed my dogs the food I requested that they feed to them. He said he had a regimented plan for them and the dog food (Beneful Healthy Weight) was not good enough to give to them. I thought that was peculiar that they were fighting me on dog food that I have given to my dogs for almost the same amount of time they have been alive. I thought that I would share with her my request tonight with her about my dogs diet. Well tonight, the lady opens up one of the bags with the measuring cup that I had included, takes the cup out of the bag and and proceeds to tell me that she did not need the cup. I shared with her that my request was that she feed them exactly how I would want them to eat, not what she thought. One time, a few years ago, I had fed my dog some other kind of dog food, only to find out that I had to take my dog to the vet, due to my dog acting sluggish and slow. His eyes we're swollen back then due to an allergic reaction. I would never recommend these people. In my opinion, I think they just did not want to feed them the food that I gave them due to the couple being lazy. I left the kennel just 5 minutes after I had arrived. I do not believe the woman has a veterinary license, or is an animal dietitian. I then made another phone call and my dogs are going to be take care of. read more

Double T Kennel is a solid choice if you need to board your dog for a weekend. The owners are serious dog breeders, and as dog people, are capable of caring for your dog too. If you are looking for some pet hotel that treats your dog like a person and has web cams so you can check in on your pet; this is not the place for you. However, if you want a kennel that is run by people who understand dogs, and their actual needs, Double T is a good place to go. We left our dog there for a weekend, and while our dog went ape s--t when we came to pick him up, he also ran up to the kennel operator; evidently they became friends while we were gone. If/when we need to leave our dog again, Double T is where we'll go. read more

Just picked up my dog from an emergency 3 week stay at the Double T. This place is a great place to keep your dog if its just for a few days, or even if you wind up in a bind and need to keep your dog safe and out of the way for a few weeks (remolding, moving, etc.) Tom was fantastic, very calm and gave us a lot of good advice with working with our dog. The facility looked very clean, the play yard was immaculate and my dog was given to us looking healthier and smelling better than we're use to. Tina and Tom are amazing. We were originally calling to find a new home for our Malamute mix, when we came up with the idea to fence off our backyard to keep our pup. We decided to board him at Double T and they were more than happy to board him. Their knowledge is impressive, their professionalism is outstanding, their facility is immaculate and we know that our Xero was being well taken care of. Xero was there for 3 weeks, and he is happy to be home. I wouldn't recommend any other kennel than Double T. Worth the 20 min. drive out, and worth every single penny spent. I've left our Doberman here a few times and we wouldn't board her anywhere else! Great place, great facility, great people! I like that she can see and smell the other dogs and isn't confined to a private place. They play with the dogs every day and make sure all are healthy before they check in. My Scarlett has some separation anxiety and refuses to sleep alone. Double T accommodates her and allow her sleep with their own pups to ease her anxiety. I highly recommend them. Our previous dog pasted away 2 years ago, we were regularly customers at Double T kennels. Tom and Tina always treated our dog with loving care, we never worried about leaving our dog with them. We felt very honored and pleased to be customers! We were always dealt with professionalism and we really appreciated how organized they ran their business.
