I say settled, but that definitely isn't the case with this local fly fishing operation. Galen, the owner/operator was extremely nice to work with and rearranged his schedule several times to accommodate for poor weather/fishing conditions to ensure we had a great time learning how to fly fish. Once we met him near the river, we learned how to cast a fly rod on dry land. He has a lot of patience and was very supportive, even when we were doing poorly. After an hour of practice we hit the water on his white water rafting rig. We stopped at several places along the river to fish, and he would critique and provide tips along the way so that we caught as many fish as possible. While on the river he provided all of the fly fishing gear, beverages and even catered to our dietary needs. We will definitely be back to fish with Shenandoah Valley Fly Fishing in the near future - it was a low stress and high excitement experience for us. If you are ever looking for lessons or a guided tour, I would use Galen over any of his competitors. If you choose to go with Shenandoah Valley Fly Fishing, make sure you mention that one movie that takes place in Montana that has a lot of fly fishing in it, I think it's called "A River Runs Through It", or something like that. He took some extra time to give us casting tips before we started our trip (my brother was new to fly fishing), and was an excellent instructor throughout the day. Our trip was such a success! Even when the weather went to hell, Galen had a plan and made sure we still had a great time. I would highly recommend SVFF to anyone looking for a float trip!

In the center of the park is a decent sized fishing pond where I have caught many bluegills, although the sign says it is stocked with trout (so you may catch some here and there). There is also a decent sized playground for kids, a public swimming pool (which you can check times and cost online), and I believe some type of paddle boats (you may have to check the hours and such for that) which is the only watercraft allowed on the pond. They appear to cut the grass on Fridays (so allergy sufferers beware). They have plenty of covered picnic areas, trash cans, and bathrooms.. although I don't believe I have seen any doggy stations (I saw one lady the other day who didn't bother to pick up her dogs poop, yuck). They are open from 8am til Dusk.

Tubbing was a little iffy only because the forecasted weather looked like it could storm, but Jeff worked with our group to make sure we could still maximize our time on the water by bumping our reservation to an earlier time slot. Adam was our bus driver and he couldn't have been more accommodating to our large group. He even sang happy birthday and a few other songs to our friend who we were celebrating her birthday for! Overall great experience with everyone we met, definitely would recommend and can't wait to come back!

All sites have water and electric and are nicely spaced apart. A dump station is within easy access on the property. Very quiet and peaceful. The host, Levi, is just one of those outstanding individuals who is always upbeat and wants to make sure you are enjoying your stay. Prices are comparable to a KOA without the "pack em in" feeling and the crowds. Plenty of places on the property to explore as well as the nearby George Washington National Forest. We found out about this place from a work friend and will be coming here regularly. Note that fishing the trout stocked creek does cost extra as Levi has day guests fishing it as well and needs to keep fishing pressure low. He also provides guided and semi-guided hunts during the season.

And they do; covers about a 2 mile radius that surrounds a few soccer fields and playgrounds. Saw some people flying kites here. While there isn't much else in terms of those, it provides a nice peace of mind when you're here; isn't that why you're here in the first place?

A great day for a hike on the A.T. This one is just o/s Fauquier County on Mt Weather. I took the…read moreSOBO trail a couple years ago. This time I went North to the waterfall. Let me give some mad respect to whomever dug out the spot to put in a rather large parking area for us! For years we've been on side of this narrow dirt road. * Thank. (Virtual fist pump). This was 3 miles out and 3 miles back. The waterfall is around 1 mile mark. It's off to the right. *please understand, ricks are slippery whether they're wet ot not. How someone brings three toddlers here with no backpack, water or first aid is beyond me. I had to leave the area. But it was really nice. Very relaxing and you did have to hand/foot climb to get up there. Be careful please. I double backed and got on the A.T. Couple more miles to the secret cliff I saw in another Yelp post. :) . Lots of people walked by, no one knew I was there. I had it all to myself. Its better than the actual lookout. Anyway. I scanned the rocks for danger, shot some pics and sat down for water and dry crackers. I look over and there are 2 snakes curled up by a small tree about 6 feet from me. I spoke to them. "Thought you'd hide from me. I got you!" It was funny. I took a couple pics and kept my eyes on them. Only takes a second to lose track and they end up right at me saying, "HA got you back!" I sat a while then headed back down. I enjoyed it! I'd like to section hike and have a car waiting to take me back to my own car where I started. They should have an Uber Hikes App available for that. ;) This way I can hike for as far as I want without turning around to come straight back.

This hike is on the A.T. Trumbo Hollow (day hike) starts on…read moreVa State Rte 55/John Marshall Hwy in Linden Va. Same place as the the Manassas Gap Hike I went on two weeks ago but across the street. Again, lots of great parking. Starting at Rte 55 going onto Trumbo Hollow you are going Southward on the AT. No views but a great hike. Saw a lot of thru hikers today, most of which commented to us about the great weather! Today's 80 degrees and breezy is amazing compared to heat index of 110 degrees last week so these guys were all talking about it as we met them on the trail. Crossed some creeks and walked through 3 nice size fields which I think is cool when you are in the woods forever and then the world opens up into a sunshiny field. With the breeze, it was perfect.3 miles to reach Jim & Molly Denton Shelter. It was actually quite nice. A wooden privy out to the side and showers on the other side... a cooking station and the shelter itself even had a porch and rocking chairs. These thru hikers must think this is the MGM out here. I obviously thought it was impressive. Then we just turn and walk the way back. Nothing spectacular except doing what you love to do. Hiking. I love it. It lifts all my worries and stresses off my shoulders with each step and I feel like I have accomplished something. Of course I took my friend with me again. He laughs when I text him asking what he's doing. He knows what I'm going to ask! Though I love hiking by myself, (loner by choice), my friend is the best hiking partner ever. We just shut up and hike. Every once in a while we laugh or act stupid but mostly we are quiet and just keep hiking. I did see one snake. That was it. A Northern Ring-Neck Snake. It's actually the second one of these I've seen so far in July and the second ever in my lifetime. I thought that was pretty odd. But these snakes are so tiny. They are so thin and only reach about 12-15 inches. Perfectly harmless. I'd probably do this hike again. I liked the flow of it well enough and it's close to home.
