There is always new merchandise and the value can't be beat. Brands range from Lilly P., J. McLaughlin, Theory, Lululemon to the most high end designers--e.g., Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo. Clothes are dated and over priced for what they are - you can literally go to TJ Maxx down the street and buy a brand new Vince cashmere sweater for 1/3 less than they are selling for a used one. As a former consignor, they charge a $6 check fee just to write the check even if you choose to pick it up, plus other hidden fees. You have to really look at your statements, and I've had incorrect items returned to me. Other places don't charge fees if you leave payments on a account to put towards purchases, but not here. Owner is always there and is cold and unfriendly. There are better places in the area to give your business to and look for a treasure! read more

When I moved out from New York City 23 years ago, I was initially missing New Yor City sophistication and an urban sensibility. I stumbled on Double Exposure and I instantly felt at home. The staff was so welcoming and friendly and the quality of all the clothes, shoes, purses, accessories and jewelry was first-class and in impeccable condition. And it has maintained that excellence in product ever since. And now, with the new store location, it is a soothing experience to shop and this is from someone who hates shopping! This is my Go-To store for every gift I've ever bought for the past 2 decades. There are always so many unique and intriguing items to try on and consider. The Proprietor, Mern Palmer-Smith, has created a loving community space where we all feel we belong. The store location is excellent and the parking is plentiful. Get off the generic On-Line Shopping and go and visit Double Exposure for a welcomed in-person shopping experience. I always feel like it's similar to going to an art gallery. While in town, a friend and I stopped in and were very impressed. While many consignment stores are uninviting and unorganized, this one was exactly the opposite; bright, colorful, inviting and very organized despite being crowded. They are moving locations shortly so hopefully that will allow aisles to be wider. The selection of clothes is very good. Many high end designer pieces at a fraction of the original price and looking as though they were brand new. The loss of a star is due to attitude; staff and customer. When a sales clerk is asked a question, they should remember that their behavior/attitude influences whether someone makes a purchase, and how large that purchase may be. Acting as though a customer is bothering you, does not encourage people to buy. On the flip side, if people have been waiting in line to make a purchase, do not stop the line to answer a customer's question; politely say, "I will look that up for you as soon as these people are finished." Customers in line should also not be allowed to leave the line in order to shop, then come back and add to their pile. Staff should politely let those customers know that they can hold their purchases at the counter, but that they will have to go to the end of the line when they are done shopping. With only 3 dressing rooms, you expect to have to wait a little, but not because customers are going back and forth, getting more items to try on. read more

My Double Exposure was over exposure. Should have written this review the first time I visited this store in March. Today was my second and final visit to this store for many reasons. Both experiences were almost exactly the same. Driving through CT, we stumbled upon this turd of a store with hemorrhoid-like employees. Or perhaps, the employees had hemorrhoids because they were all miserable. We were not greeted upon entering and any questions we had seemed like an inconvenience or burden. Both times, we were told that "WE CLOSE IN TEN MINUTES!" I had neglected to remember their harsh closing policy from the last time. I only remembered the way they made me feel. I understand closing times, but the rudeness was despicable, insulting and discouraging. And unprofessional. Their inventory was alright. Contemporary luxe labels and a big fake Louis Vuitton stood out like a sore thumb next to a vintage Longchamp. Despite our reservations, my friend found a pair of shoes that she really liked and was making a last minute decision at 4:55 when we were yelled at again to "wrap it up". I tried to make light conversation with the salesperson to soften things, but she was abrupt and disinterested. She just kept looking at the clock. My guess is these fasholes were under pressure to apply their 5pm dose of preparation H. That's how irritable they were. All in all, I would NOT recommend this place for the simple fact of customer service. I stray away from corporate facilities to keep the small businesses alive, however, this one missed out on the opportunity to have a big spender with a lot of big spender friends return. read more

Here's what I like about this store: very good selection of higher-end clothing, shoes, accessories, nicely laid out. But here's what I hate about this store, and why I gave it two stars: three out of the last four times that I've shopped there, I've gotten there about 4:30 pm, forgetting they close at 5. Five!! What clothing store closes at five? (I'm usually on my way back from NY.) And every time, they start hounding people to hurry up in the dressing room if they want a prayer of purchasing anything by closing time. They RAILROAD you out of there. The drumbeat starts quickening at 4:45. I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff there, but they are SO RUDE about getting you the hell out so they can lock up. And I'm not a dawdler. I'm a very fast, efficient shopper. But this attitude drives me nuts. read more

I was just in yesterday for the Mother's Day sale and have never been more offended as a mother shopping in a store. My daughter, 16 months old, climbed into the display window and the woman in the front screamed at me to get her out there immediately and that she could break something. Obviously, I was mortified! She then continued to scold me and my daughter, which was completely unecessary and unwarranted behavior. She' then asked in an extremely rude tone, would I please put my daughter in a stroller. I told her I didn't have one but I would be happy to leave the store. I promptly put my items back on the rack. The woman said she was sorry if she offended me and my daughter was very cute. It was a suck up moment a bit too late! On a side note, the store is so cramped that using a stroller would be cumbersome and annoying to staffers and shoppers. I have been a very good customer at DE but I will never return back ever again! I find it very ironic that in your store during a Mother's Day sale you were being so rude to a mother. Just wanted to update my review to stay that nearly two years later I have yet to return to this store! I would never give this establishment business ever again! read more

I love Double Exposure! I consign all of my stuff there. They are particular with what they take in (check labels beforehand to ensure they are designers they take) which makes the quality of the store that much higher. I've puchased great items myself: a Versace dress, some CL's, Etro... the list goes on. The plus as a seller is that they don't sell things for super cheap making your monthly check worth it. There's a 6$ check fee and items are only put on the floor for 2 months. After 2 months you can either pick them up (if they don't sell) or encourage the staff to donate the items on your behalf. Staff acknowledges me by name and is always willing to help you find what you're looking for. read more

I have been a customer and a consigner for over 4 years and apart from them rushing you out at closing time I had always enjoyed shopping there. This is up until recently. I made a purchase there with my debit card on 12/02/14. Two items and they were both on sale (a sweater and a belt). The charge ran through as $38.25. I gave them a signiture on the transaction slip - having them run my debit as a credit to not have to press any dirty buttons. When I checked my bank account a couple of days later the charge read $$62.75. I thought., Oh! there has been a mistake. I'll see them and get it taken care of. I went there with my receipt (which I had to dig from the trash) along with my bank statement. Lauren (the owner - I think) unapologetically said - "That's right, You were under charged. We put holds on all transactions until the end of the night incase we have to make any adjustments." WHAT!!!!!! I thought. Number one - Is this legal? Number two - As a consigner for over 4 years, my phone number is on file so a courtesy call would have been a respectful way to move forward from a "mistake" made by an employee. Via Lauren's cell phone - She sent me photos of the price tags. In my opinion the amounts looked different than what I remember. ***Note to self and all readers/customers!! Take pictures of their price tags before they remove them at purchase. Their receipts issued only list total and not the price for each item.*** And please keep your receipts And check your bank statements!!!! I'm going to the bank tomorrow to show them my authorized receipt against their transaction along with the text messages that the owner and I sent back and forth. Also! Their "correction" of 20% off still did not match up with the price tags she sent me pictures of. She had no explanation for this. BUYER BEWHERE!! read more

I consigned some items here and had mixed results so thought I would share them so others can benefit from what I learned. First off, they did sell some items and remitted the proceeds promptly. However, three or four of the newest, most stylish and most expensive items somehow mysteriously never made it to the shop floor. I made a point to stop in frequently to check on my inventory and these items never showed up nor did I ever receive compensation for them. I have a second home in Florida and I have consigned at a shop there and the differences in their practices highlight what you need to be careful about at Double Exposure. First, the Florida place reviews all of your items with you and agrees disposition right then. If they say something is not going to sell, they give it back to you on the spot. At DE, I dropped my things off and they later sent me by mail an inventory of what they were going to put on the floor along with a handwritten copy of a "receipt" for items donated to St. Luke's. This receipt didn't match up with what I brought in versus what ended up on their sale floor. So I suspect that the missing garments made their way into some employee's wardrobe. Secondly, at the Florida shop, they offer you a certain amount of cash right then. It is at a 20% discount from what they believe you would get in a 60 day consignment process, but it shows they are putting their money where their mouth is. They are very upfront about what will sell and what will not and you can walk out the door with your cash if you like. Totally transparent process. So it is a good bit different from the practices at DE. I'm not saying don't consign there, just that you need to watch the process very carefully and demand that they review the articles in your presence and give you a written receipt before you leave the store. horrible experience. brought in brand new, never worn, black nanette lepore pants with tags still attached. after a few months, they told me they never sold and i opted to pick them up rather than have the store "donate them" as they said they would. after retrieving the pants, i noticed the tags had been cut off and the pants looked worn & wrinkled and had a stain on them! owner refused to do anything and was very rude! read more
