Husband and beautiful banana gorilla themed cake!

Happy New Year Dot! I've been meaning to write a review but time ran away from me. The gorilla themed cake was an amazing cake. Not only was it beautiful my husband said it was one of the best cakes he's ever had banana is now his favorite! Even our picky eaters loved it! Dot and the kids loved being a part of the cake as well it was beyond a hit. Thank you again for helping me make my husband's celebration special. Wishing you continued success, health and joy. It was hard finding a bakery to do something custom for our celebration. Not being a local made it more difficult. I was weary of working with someone who didn't have a brick and mortar store but Dot is extremely professional and provided excellent suggestions. Dot is extremely gifted artistically but her flavors are delicious.

My boyfriend was having a Coachella-themed birthday and I wanted to make his cake special this year. I contacted previous vendors about this cake project but it fell through due to miscommunication. I was scrambling until I found Dot on Instagram. I DM'd her and we hopped on a call immediately to go through the cake vision. Dot was a great communicator and was very clear on the process/steps and visual design. I laid out digital sketches and reference photos for her to use and she created a cake that was exactly how I envisioned. So happy about how it came out, especially with her creative suggestions on the rainbow building and astronaut. Dot also dedicated the words on the top to be specific to the Coachella font , which I really appreciated! Thank you Dot and I cant recommend her enough :-)

Amazing!! My son dreamed up his birthday cake and Dot's Cakes make his dream come true. He wanted a cake shaped like a long eared rabbit that was red velvet so it would give the illusion of blood and bones when you cut into it. He said it was perfect! I ordered a custom birthday cake -- $150 plus $60 for delivery -- and gave about three weeks' notice with several reference photos. Everything I sent was soft pastel buttercream, and I was hoping for something in softer pastel instead. As the photos show, the cake I received went in a very different direction: a bright greenish printed edible-image wrap with dark borders and a lot of color and detail on top. It's clearly a lot of work, and I can see the effort in it, it just wasn't the calmer look I'd asked for, and it read as much busier than I expected. The topper also arrived leaning to one side with a jagged cut and unfinished back, which was a little disappointing for a centerpiece. In fairness, Dorothy was prompt and polite throughout, and responded kindly when I shared my feedback. She explained she'd taken a more whimsical interpretation of the references and offered 10% off a future order. I appreciated the gesture, though it didn't quite address a piece that didn't match the brief. I've attached my references and the cake I received. For the price and the lead time, I'd hoped for something a little closer to what I sent, so I don't think I'd order again, but I wish her well. read more

Where do I start - well, my husband who loves a good Cigar would LOVE a cigar cake! So I asked Dorothy if she would make one and She did. It was an Amazing looking cake so So realistic that when we had it out on display I hovered by it thinking one of his friends was going to dip into the box to take out a cigar LOL. I was very excited to be using this business for my daughter's birthday party. I called Dot and placed an order for a chocolate unicorn cake with strawberries. I paid $130 for the cake and Dot told me to pick it up at her bakery around 10 am the morning of. Well, the morning of the party came. So I called Dot to ask if I could swing by. SHE HAD NO RECORD OF MY ORDER. Not only did she have no cake for me, but she wasn't even in town, so she couldn't give me anything she had on hand. She refunded me my money and I had to drive around La Quinta looking for a business that had cakes appropriate for a kids birthday party. I had to get my girl a Walmart cake. It was beyond disappointing. I spent so much money on decorations and bouncy castles and balloons. And to have no cake for the party besides a stale gross Walmart cake, well, it was bad. This business owner does not keep records or have a proper system to keep track of orders. She does not run her business with integrity or care. Do not use this business. I can't say that enough. read more

Dorothy is the the Cake Boss. Look at the pics....Beautiful recreations of what people want for their Important event. It is a stressful time as one wants everything to go right and THAT is why Dorothy is the one to choose. She is unreal patient and handles everything with a smile. It is like you are dealing with a friend or family member. Yelp can be a brutal place and for her to have the great reviews she does says something about how she runs her business. She is owner/operator and thus you always get the high caliber finished product you desire. Make sure you call her ahead of time as she is no longer a secret in the Valley. I began creating cakes in 2008, opened up a cake shop in 2011 for 3 years and moved as a City Licensed and Health Dept permitted as a Cottage Food Operator at home since 2014.

Meet the Business Owner: Dot J.

Because of her need to be creative, Dot began her professional career as an Interior Designer. She then started a family and decided to become a stay at home mother of two girls. While at home raising a family she started creating custom wedding stationery and enjoying crafts at home with her children. In 2009 she started a new hobby, cake decorating and designing custom cakes for friends and families. After working with fondant cake decorating, she knew she was meant to do this and hasn't stopped. Dot finally found her passion in cake designing and decorating and looks forward to creating your one-of-a-kind custom cake.

The male associate was making cookies directly behind the register, and the female associate, Meilani, was only a few feet away putting cookies into the refrigerator. Neither one said, "I'll be right with you," asked if I needed something, or acknowledged me at all. I even tipped when I placed my order, which made the experience more frustrating. What exactly are customers being prompted to tip for when basic communication and acknowledgment are missing? I don't expect employees to drop what they're doing immediately, but a simple greeting or "I'll be with you in a moment" is basic customer service. Eventually, I just needed someone to acknowledge me so I could ask for a printed receipt. Customers shouldn't have to work this hard just to get an employee's attention in a tiny store.
