I've been eating here for five years and my whole family loves it. It's a great place to get a pretty quick meal and the atmosphere is very casual. If you go at the right time it can be a good place for groups, because the tables are easily moved, but I think it's best for groups of 2-4. The steak is great and anything with it has to be tasty. The nachos are particularly good and the Colorado enchiladas are great in the winter to warm you up. read more

Don't get me wrong I love the burritos and the chips and salsa here, but on two separate occasions I have had maggots fall onto my table. Flies live in the dried chilies they have hanging around the place for decoration and the maggots fall from them. So just make sure to get a table not below some chilies? That's my best advice. Extra points for the amazing soda machine that let's you pick a soda and a flavor for a personalized drink. They will also give you more chips if you ask when you are eating there. read more

I have been a loyal, faithful customer of Dos Coyotes ever since moving to Davis-however, I always enjoyed the food at the SOUTH Davis location. Tonight was my first time at the North Davis location, and I was disgusted. First, there were flies at the salsa station, and salsa was spilled everywhere; there was dirt in the container that collects water from the large ceramic water jug; and the food was awful. I am a big fan of enchiladas with red sauce! At this location, it seems they cook their enchiladas with straight red paste from a can or jar! It was bitter and awful! I will never be coming back to this location, and I wish I had not gone in the first place. Also, no free chips in a basket like at the South Davis location; and they're not very generous with their guacamole or sour cream servings. read more

Can I give 100 stars?! I've probably spent a thousand dollars going to this place for so many years. This is my favorite restaurant ever and I go at least three times a month. Usually more! I actually have only eaten the same thing since I first went. It was just so amazing I never needed to try something new off the menu!! Since this location is the original, it is the best. The other locations definitely don't compare! My only issues with this place are that the salsa is not consistent. Some days it is watered down and has barely any flavor and other days it's thick and just amazing! Also, the burrito I always get, I ask for mild. I like spicy food, I just prefer this burrito without the spice. When I ask for mild, they don't always come out mild. It still has a ton of peppers sometimes. I just pick them out. Oh well. We went for lunch today. Food was great and was on the table very fast. Reviewing based on food alone i had a few issues. If you ask for something spicy in a Mexican restaurant it should be pretty hot. Sadly this is were it fell short. Several days ago, my two girlfriends and I decided to go to this location to grab something small and quick since we weren't that hungry. I politely asked for a coke and two water glasses for my friends and paid for the food. The female cashier only gave me a cup for the coke so me and my friends ended up having to share the drink. I didn't make much of it. A few minutes later, I went up to her and asked for an extra plate, the same female cashier, with an attitude and rigid facial expression asked me: "What's the plate for?"!!! Confused, I replied: "To eat the chips with". In my mind, I was thinking, did I do something wrong? Why is she being so rude and hesitant to give me a plate! I went back there a couple days later, after paying for the food, I asked for a plate again to eat the chips with because they have it in a bag. As the cashier goes to get me the plate, the same female cashier from last time went up to her and told her not to give it to me! WTFFFF!!!!! GTFOH!!!! I can't believe what just HAPPENED!!!! I am at a restaurant, just paid for the food, but they are refusing to give me an extra plate!!!?? I was BEDAZZLED as though they were doing it intentionally to piss me off! I was already having a bad day and now this??!!! So I asked to speak to the manager. The male manager came up to me and told me it was COMPANY POLICY TO NOT GIVE ME A PLATE because they didn't want me to get the salsa with the plate, but instead, to use the tiny plastic containers they have by the salsa stand. I then asked for a refund and guess what? The manager said: "No, I cannot give you a refund because the food is already made!" At this point, I was furious, outraged, and I just exploded!!! I started cursing and yelling and created a scene. Finally, the male manager said: "Ok, I'll give you the plate". WTFFFF!!!! It took all the arguing, yelling, cursing, for them to finally hand me an extra plate to eat my chips with??? R you freaking kidddingggg meeeeeeeeeeee?!!!!! Even now, I do not know why they treated me the way they did. Maybe because I am Asian? I wonder, if my friends and I were White, would they have treated us differently? Would they have dared to refuse me a plate??! RACISM? !!!! Whatever it is, the owners need to look into it because it was OUTRAGEOUS to the EXTREME!!!! Never again will I go to the North Davis Dos Coyotes location. NEVER, EVER, AGAIN! I will make sure none of the people I know go there either! NOTE TO MANAGEMENT/OWNER: Please look into this and fire these unqualified people. It does affect your business negatively! You just lost some customers and accrued some bad reviews. I have been here twice & it's been good both times. It's a busy place & can be quite loud/echoey. That said the service is good. It is southwest/Mexican/California style so don't expect a taqueria. Stopped by for date-night with my beautiful wife tonight, and I had the green chili chicken stew, and she had the apple chicken Quesadilla. Both were on the "specials" menu, and both were EXCELLENT! The stew had some heat, but not overwhelming at all. The quesadilla was really flavorful. Wife and I shared both dishes, and we took to dunking the quesadilla slices into the stew...awesomeness! My experience here was delicious! First I asked the girl at the counter, Jessica what she suggested to eat. I went with her choice, the steak green chili enchiladas. I went with friends and we all loved our meals. There was a mistake with the order deliveries and a long wait. We did not complain to the management, but someone overheard us and instantly apologized and offered to remake the mixed up orders. We declined so she brought us lots of extra chips and salsa to make up for the service. So attentive to us. Great food and service. Will be back many times. Yum! read more

Giving one star because the customer service is awful. I have been going to Dos since it's inception, in the last 2-3 years the it's only gone down hill. The food is good and that's why I come back, and it's so close to my house. However, they get my order wrong almost every time I come there. The worst is doing take out and then getting home to discover guacamole you didn't order or meat in your vegetarian burrito I would not eat here if you have a severe allergy or dietary issue. They don't care... I have worked in the service industry and if I kept doing the same mistakes I would have been fired. Having lived in SF, LA and Austin I find Gross Coyotes simply mediocre at best. Yes they have a large variety of salsas but 90% of them are just bad. The meat across the board is never the same twice and it's never excellent. They do Tex-Mex really and they do it not very well. I'm sure for people that have never had any other real Mexican and or Tex Mex this place is AMAZIING!! But like most Davis restaurants it's sub-par. read more

Awesome Burritos, Tacos, Salads...you can't go wrong! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Davis. The food is always fresh, and TASTY. The salsa bar is neat and tidy and almost always full. The staff is efficient and friendly, order first then find a table. My favorites are the Chicken Border Burrito, the Yucatan Chicken Salad and the Steak Crispy Taco plate. Now they offer gift cards too! Parents looking for a 'care package' item, just call Dos and they will mail you a card, or they can mail it directly to your starving student. Been eating here for years. Most of the time I grab SouthWest Steak Burrito, Salmon or Mahi Mahi Burrito. Their grilled steak is full of flavor, regardless in what dish they put it in. Portions are more than enough and prices are fair for the most part. The only dish I wasn't satisified was their green chile soup (season special). It wasn't filling for what I remember to be about $7. Salsa Bar is good. At times there has been a lack of consistency on their quacamole base salsa, that gets really really salty. I do like that they rotate in a new salsa every so often; however I would have to say El Mariachi in Davis would have the best salsa bar though. Recently I have been really enjoying their special Fire Grilled Fajita Salad with Steak. In general when I want to feel a little bit healthy, I go for their salads. It's always fun to finish most of the salad and turn the rest of the entree into a salad burrito. Service is good. Staff are nice and efficient, however don't expect to get your drinks refilled. Solid mexican food all around. Prices aren't bad and the portions are very filling. The salsa bar lets you have your flavor how you want it. What brings me here is the deluxe soda machine. Not going there again! Was already having a terrible day so I went to dos for a late dinner. Around 8 pm. When I got there they were pretty busy. Took maybe 5 minutes for me to finally get to order. Saw that the owner who I had met before was there. Everyone behind the counter seemed very chaotic. I waited for about 25 minutes before I found out they had lost my ticket ... A few minutes later I received my food and when I get home (3 blocks away) my food was cold! When I start to eat I find a piece of steak in my chicken border bowl! I DONT EAT RED MEAT! The drinks and quesadilla were good, but the bread was slightly too dry. Some parts were slightly stale. But I'm eager to try the paella!

I decided to try Dos Coyotes again after being away for a while. I was pleasantly pleased with the service, especially from manager Michael Salas. The Mahi Mahi tacos were delicious and fresh and the Southwest Veggie Burrito was very good, and myself being allergic to MSG, I had no head ache or MSG related symptoms.
