My wife and I have had 5 new builds over the past 20 years. Dorn Homes has been the worst experience by far. The home design was excellent. The problem was with the poor construction by the trades and the horrible follow up by the Superintendent. Even when we pointed out glaring problems like the wall studs did not reach the trusses he said, that's ok since it is not a load bearing wall. It took over 18 months for items on our walk through punch list to get addressed even after I went to the corporate office. I'm glad we live in Prescott but I wish we had used a different builder. read more

Dorn homes has a huge problem with how their communities look after the sale. Their HOA Stellar Property Management, is ineffectual at getting homeowners to follow the CCR's. Saddlewood in Prescott is riddled with renters, sometimes 3 or 4 renters in one home with multiple cars in the driveways and on the streets all day and all night. The community looks like crap, so why pay HOA fees if nothing gets done? At this point I am looking to sell and I am sure the lineup of vehicles will really help fetch a top price. read more

I see people still acknowledge my dorn review. More problems that came up during warranty that dorn refused to correct so I got the ROC involved. Paint was peeling off the eve's around the house including my neighbors who paid to have there's corrected. ROC sided with us on that and many other things Driveway collapsed twice 2 feet by 6 feet and all the way up to house. Backsplash replaced 3 times because of how bad it turned out. Wrong paint used, repainted. Numerous tile problems in bathrooms and kitchens corrected Faulty ceiling fan Paint on eve's repainted 8 can lights burned out, worker said they got faulty batch yet didn't replace all Roof done very cheap, sinks between joists Even now 2 doors that now won't close, things loosening and falling apart. These houses are extremely cheaply and shodily done, if you drive thru these newer neighborhoods and stop and talk to people you will hear many similar and worse story's. Every neighbor I've talked to has gone through what we did, sad and infuriating. read more

My fiancé bought a home in the saddlewood community. We complied with the CC&R and completed our landscaping with in the allotted time. Our neighbors are another story ... they have been allowed to not do anything about their yard it's dirt and rains and winds are washing away a portion of our landscaping. They also have 4 -5 dogs that bark and the dog poop just sits for days causing a fly problem. We would love to move but fear we will get less money considering the neighbor. Also , the block walls are so low and cheaply made when we are outside the dog jumps and barks we fear the wall will collapse. We have complained about this for over a year. read more

So in 2018 I gave a 5 star! No more! After having several cabinet doors replaced due to warping, a cabinet that was falling down in kitchen replaced and dining room tiles breaking 3 times in dining room (in 2019, 2020 and 2023, which is a very messy and dusty experience when they are Jack hammered out) and roof problems this company uses inferior people and products! DO NOT PURCHASE A DORN HOME! Obviously the tile issue is an ongoing problem which now Dorn refuses to take responsibility. The reason they get "Best Of " home builders is because they are pretty homes, but ask anyone who has lived in one of these homes after a couple years! They will say "Poor workmanship". We bought a Dorn home and have been jerked around for almost a yr , Not happy There are 12 home owners that where the last 12 homes built in the Dells and we have all kinds of major problems we can not get fixed . There are others in the Dell's also that are not happy . Also my friend bought in Saddle wood built buy Dorn and is also very un happy and had major flooding in her house do to concert in her pipes . Dorn may have been one of the top builders at on time but hasn't been for yrs . Us home owners wonder how they get voted best builder of the yr . We all think something is fishy . Buyer be wear . Seriously? These homes are beautiful, but wow....trying to buy one is a whole new level of insanity. Went in to look at models. Casey, the sales manager, didn't have the time to talk but he did direct us to the models. The models were beautiful of course. We wanted to know more, so we went back to see if we could gets some specs for a few houses. Casey was no longer busy so we figured we could talk to him. We asked about a few available homes and the cost of upgrades. Casey then began to tell us he doesn't give out info on upgrades to non-clients. Ok...so we left. We came back a few days later with our realitor. Ha... Casey was a different man. NOW..he was willing to talk. He gave our realtor all the info we wanted. I still felt alienated. Maybe I looked to much like an Oregonian? We were told we needed to make an appointment to really talk about details. Soooooo.... we made an appointment to talk later. Back again a few days later with our realtor. I was on time but Casey didn't know why I was there. Oh, he didn't have my appointment written down. Ooops. We ended up looking at models again while Casey geered up to talk to us. Finally, after a 1/2 later, we all ended up talking about specs, prices, lenders, down payments etc... I noticed a lot of red flags when Casey kept talking about how he won't even consider me a client until I signed a contract and put down $$$$ first. He's too busy to remember my name and won't remember until that contract is signed. Ok..do I understand he's a busy man, but really? I was a potential buyer. My realitor is just as busy and she remembers my name. So yeah...more red flags with the lenders that he only supplies and the extra $2,000 that will be applied to the cost of my home if I use my own lender. I know some lenders are not fun to work with but seriously... Over all it was a joke. Beautiful homes but good luck jumping through the BS. I wasn't a "Real" costomer, so I guess we move on. read more

I once held Dorn in high regard, but as time went on (5 years now) I no longer feel that way. The quality of their subcontractors is awful. The way things are going I will have practically rebuilt this house in the next couple of years and replaced every appliance. All because of shoddy workmanship and poor quality products. So far great, people are very helpful with any questions or any problems. I was a little bit in price shock after the design center but I was the bad guy there I should check prices before going there to get an idea whats going on in the world. People should remember this is not a pre-built community each home is a semicustom home so be prepared to wait. In saying that you have to remember that pre planning is a must don't expect the builder to remember everything the buyer's also have a responsibility to check and double check I know I will be. If I could give Zero stars I would. The experience of buying our first home has been ruined by the quality of the work and the customer service we received. They rushed us in house to close before end of year. One room didn't even have carpet, just nails all over floor. Very unsafe. It Takes forever for work to be completed once in home. Had the worst experience today doing walk thru for my grams house while she is in cali. The guy doing walk thru with us was so rude and had the worst attitude. We wanted to go over everything and note all that needed fixed. His response was "Are we done yet? Or are you going to use all my green tape?" He didn't even go through the rooms with us. He just stood in the kitchen and seemed annoyed, waiting for us to be done. Buying a new home is suppose to be special and exciting and they ruin it. We have lived here for almost year and everyone we talk to has same experience. What's sad is Dorn does nothing to change this. They only care about the money. If I could give Dorn a negative 1 star I would. The entire experience from pre closing to now post closing in June of this year has been a struggle. Their choice of design centers (Interior Logic - look them up) is probably the worst design center in Arizona. The post closing warranty department offers little if no customer service for warranty requests. Just after closing and right before move in we noticed a water leak after only being in the house officially for about 30 minutes. We were very surprised that Dorn had not noticed the obvious leak when the house was in their possession for all of those months, and we noticed it in 30 minutes of moving items in the house. Submitted the warranty request per Dorn requirements and it took them ten days to address the situation. So our interior walls sat with wet insulation in them for 10 days until Dorn could address it when convenient for them. The repair had to be done from the inside out so right away our new home was damaged. The team fixing the leak proceeded to drag the salvaged demolition pieces of drywall through the hall and damaged doors, walls and moulding on the way out. Then Dorn just painted right over the damage in hopes we wouldn't see it. Their customer service rep was rude and condescending during the entire process. Additionally we did not get our final grading report until a month and a half after we closed and we had to request it after waiting for landscaping approval. I would encourage ANYONE purchasing a Dorn home to schedule their walk through for several hours so you can thoroughly look everything over and test all appliances. And go in a day or so prior to your walk through so you can make notes ahead of time. Dorn will show up with a mob of people and rush you room to room so you don't have time to actually catch their defects and poor workmanship, and get you to sign off on their walk through form. Trust me when I tell you if you don't note it at walk through GOOD LUCK trying to get anything fixed on your on your own after closing. If you do submit a warranty request and happen to get a response it will be from someone new and inexperienced every time. Good luck with the customer care director and reps because they don't care about the customer. Before you buy a Dorn home do your research and read all reviews on all websites so you know what you are getting. My wife and I purchased a brand new house from Dorn for cash for our retirement,the reason we decided to have a new home built so we could have the options we wanted and colors we wanted.What a joke! Beware of this builder they do not fulfill their agreement and there are too many items to list,but the main issue is the granite we ordered for the bathrooms and kitchen were to be the same,not so but they tell us it is the same and the granite is cracked,but they want to epoxy and paint for the repair,we said no this is a brand new house (located right in front of the Sales office and Models.We haven't said anything to prospective buyers that walk across the street from us,but I think I will be honest with them from now on. We are waiting for the news media to contact us for help. I purchased a home in Dorm Homes. I found out after my closing a brown metal rail was placed in front of my home. It is not the color of my home. The rail is an "eyesore". This was placed without my permission. The explanation was, "due to the elevation of the land the rail had to be placed". Dorn is a stickler about their contract. However, I was never informed about the rail. This was a breach of my contract. I tried contacting everyone in their business office. The answer I received, "Your complaint is above my pay grade." I was really disappointed in the treatment I received, as well as, the responses. No one has gotten back to me about the rail. I know of several people who were interested in Dorn homes. I advised them not to purchase with Dorn. Very disappointed! read more

It's really unfortunate that this is one of the only home builders in the quad cities area. The quality of their homes are sub par, and the customer service from Dorn Home representatives is abysmal at best. Most importantly they take accountability for nothing and blame their subcontractors for everything. We have had issues with our home since Day 1, we have been in our home over a year now and still have unresolved issues. I have been told time and time again that Dorn Home would take action regarding matters and they fail to do what they said everytime. The most frustrating part is just communicating with them, certain Dorn Home representatives will ignore your calls and won't bother calling you back. If you decide to buy a home from Dorn just understand you'll be very disappointed. Attached is a photo of some tile replacement that was done in my home, this is the kind of work Dorn Homes is doing, oh and it took them over a month to grout it too. We recently walked into a Dorn Homes model in the Dells. No one greeted us. My husband initiated a conversation with a sales lady. Her immediate response to him was "do you realize our homes start at $600k?" I was floored. Apparently we looked too average, idk... He continued his attempt to get information from her but it was clear that he was bothering her. So we left. We subsequently purchased a home from another builder. My main complaint was, I had put down over $68k deposit on the lot and home based on a contingency of selling my home in CA. My home sold right away and the contingency in CA was lifted 2 weeks later. Dorn dragged their feet and didn't lift the contingency here in AZ until January then informed me that the prices had gone up and I would owe an additional $4000. I tried to contact the head office and just got a bunch of useless gibberish handed back to me. How can you raise a price on something that had a "lay-a-way" deposit on it. They also make a lot of promises that they don't keep and nickel and dime you for every like nails and screws. Not the experienced I had hoped for but now my home is finished and I love it; but the $4000 was nothing less than a scam on Dorn's part! Buyers...proceed with caution. My husband and I found a home we fell in love with. During our discussions with the sale representative 'MJ' stated Dorn is a well know developer, is fair and committed to good sales. She even pointed us to the 'number' to offer. During the bidding process, we were making a final decision on the agreement...we received a call from MJ stating she was moving to another job with the company and wanted to know if we would make a decision that day so she would get the commission before moving on to the other job. After some discussion, we decided to go ahead...for we trusted her. WELL, that was a huge mistake. No one ever made contact with us again... we had to keep calling to get someone to reply. Once we made our first offer and began working with our bank for the loan, Dorn informed us that they did not feel comfortable dealing with US Bank (previous buyer fell through) and would not accept a loan from US Bank. They suggested working with one of their approved lenders, we decided to go with one of them. Then things started going south. We had agreed on a price HOWEVER, the home would not pass inspection nor appraise for the value. It came to our attention that they were speaking with one of the executives for the lender - WITHOUT us or approval from us on OUR loan 'to make it happen'. They offered to split the difference. We declined for we felt very uncomfortable with Dorn's activities and that we would be underwater as soon as we purchased the home. We informed Dorn that we were interested in the home but at the appraised value ($10,000 less). If you get bad feeling in your gut (like we did) - walk away. OH...and read the fine print...they will not return your earnest money....!!! Their home could not appraise for the value...so MJ and Dorn felt I backed out. We bought a home from Dorn. Closed in Dec. Worst builder ever had! It's Dorn Slop! They blame the contractors they hire. Drywall awfully done! Concrete a mess. Cabinets knobs all crooked. Paint is horrible over the shoddy drywall. Stucco missing from all over outside. Do not buy a Dorn home. It is poor quality because they don't use good quality Foremen, contractors etc. All the way from bottom to top is lack of quality! I would be so embarrassed to work for Dorn or have anything to do with them. This is the 5th house we have had built by different builders and it is hands down the worst experience we have ever had! After living in our home that we were so excited about finally moving in a year and a half ago, our rating of the quality and workmanship has gone way way down. Dorn built us an RV garage where they put in 240 volts for a 30 amp plug promptly burning all our RV electrical. They failed to put expansion joists in he garage causing cracks. Our home itself has been cracking repeatedly on the ceiling and down the walls even after multiple repairs. Our countertop was off center and we had to fight for them to correct the problem properly after they tried to pull the wool over our eyes. The paint on the exterior is so thin and the shower doors without upgrades are cheap as can be. The design is basic square/rectangular nothing of true design and they don't build them well. Lots & lots of various issues. If they would build correctly from the start they could save a ton of money on people having to come repeatedly to fix things from paint to you name it. This is well know by many in our Dorn neighborhood at Wickenburg Az. I would never purchase Dorn again and sadly I left a beautiful home for this. The lifestyle here is amazing but Dorn is a builder from whom I'd never purchase again. If I could leave zero stars I would. read more

If you are planning on purchasing a Dorn Home-do a lot of research!! I recommend talking to the homeowners themselves. Each and everyone of us, has their own story of mishaps and downright incompetences. After that, if you do, be careful of the warranty. One year warranty sounds great, but not if the repairmen do not fix it the first or second time! YOU WILL BE OUT OF LUCK!! And yes, record all correspondence!! Lies and more lies! I do remember you, but you spoke to my husband. The wall concerns have been addressed and after 4 months of no wall and no privacy, it is finished. You fixed the wall and 6 others of our neighbors because it was compromised and not built correctly in 2016. And we did have an air adjustment twice in the first year. It was not fixed properly either time. We were told that the warranty on the A/C would start over, but no. Lie. The smiles change and voices become harsh when there is a problem! read more

BUYER BEWARE! This might be the most unethical Home Builder that I have ever dealt with. This company has so many hidden prices, including lot premiums on EVERY lot, ($5,200 to $15,600). They advertise that you can buy a house for $304,400, but you can't, because every lot is an upgrade. They want about $70,000 earnest money deposit, (20% of the total cost of the house including upgrades), when you sign the final contract, over a year before the house will be ready. I have bought over 10 new houses, in the last 50 years, and never had a earnest money deposit over $10,000. BUYER BEWARE! read more

This afternoon we were rudely greeted by a lady in the office who was on a personal phone call (we could tell by the conversation) she yelled out from behind her desk "Take a price sheet & you can go look at the models. We took our time & really loved the first model so we were excited to ask a few question & waited a good amount of time before going back into the office only to find her still on her personal call, she shut her office door & literally turned her back to us?! I am posting this for my Mother and her husband who do not wish to set up a Yelp account: It is with excitement my husband and I share the good news that we purchased a new Dorn Home in Pinnacle Views at Prescott Lakes and we couldn't be happier with our decision. From the first day we walked into the sales office last summer it was a positive experience in every way. Cindy Jordan, the Sales Associate, greeted us with a warm and friendly personality which made us feel right at "home" without any pressure. She shared the highlights of a Dorn Home and told us they were "organic". Wow, we had never heard of such a thing before. After touring the models we were definitely impressed by what we saw and wanted to stay in touch with Cindy as we pondered the thought of leaving California. After making several trips out we decided this was where we wanted to live and purchased our new home last month. Cindy has been with us every step of the way as we journey towards the completion date of our home. Cindy is an employee who cares about her customers. My appointment with the Design Center was scheduled at 9:00 on a Monday morning. My husband wasn't able to make the trip so I brought my friend, who is also a designer, with me. We drove out on a Sunday hoping to see the models before the next day's appointment but I had forgotten the time difference in AZ, one hour ahead of CA and didn't reach the models until they had already closed. But a quick call to Cindy, and she was gracious enough to drive over to the models to let us in so my friend could tour them before the next morning's appointment. We admire Cindy for her character, her professionalism and for being an outstanding Sales Associate. We also praise Pam Conner, the designer at the Design Center who worked with me tirelessly all day long. What an experience it was going through this process of picking out things for a brand new home. My head was spinning. Because there were a few areas I hadn't completely decided on, Pam invited me back to go over them again. This is an employee who took the time to listen and meet my needs. Then there is Derrick Wilson, the Electrician who walked with me from room to room showing what was standard and what we could add to the house. Again, I had no idea about all this stuff. Derrick answered all my questions and even took the time to speak with my husband by phone during the appointment. Another great man is Nathan Hanna, of Rock'n'Earth Landscaping. He asked questions as to what our likes and wants were and what we envisioned. We are so excited to see what he creates for us with the landscaping for our new home. Mark White, the Licensed Mortgage Professional has been delightful to work with as well. We have never felt like we are left out in the dark about anything as we are in constant contact with him via emails and or phones calls. All of these people are gifted and talented with the expertise in their individual fields and yet they are Team Players, people come together and who care about the customer, first and foremost, to bring about a positive buying experience of a Dorn home. we bought a house a year ago, and have had nothing but problems. We are doing our 11 mo Inspection and the contractors they hire are Terrible..2 days in a row they have been a no show..our house needs painting again due to all the cracks that have been fixed and the contractor even put it on the work order and was told that is not happening! , our marble counter tops are not the same as what we picked out, but they will tell us it is it is just a different slab. Our water pressure on the back yard is not correct, a GFI keeps tripping, the pantry and closet shelves are coming apart. And my food is all over my kitchen as he was due here Wed to fix the shelves, just never showed up. The list goes on and on..I WILL NEVER refer anyone to Dorn Homes. Oh and I called to speak to someone at Dorn Homes and was told the president Chris would call me back. Guess what never got a call! This is a nightmare. read more

In 2015 we were approaching the age where it made sense to downsize and simplify. Dorn had just started building the "villas" in Quailwood and we liked the Cambria design. Dorn conveniently had a spec unit under way. It faced the right direction and for the most part the already-established upgrades worked for us. We were able to select very workable flooring and paint color options from their offering. It was really important to recognize that the villas were not in the "custom" category, and yes, we later changed a couple of the standard items. While it was frustrating as a tool-guy not being able to jump in and participate in the actual build, our on-site foreman kept us fully updated, and we were able to move in very close to the original schedule. Now five years later, there has seldom been a day when one or other of us does not have that little quiver, sometimes a full-blown thought of "Damn this worked out well". We have a comfortable Guest Suite and a two-bedroom Master Suite. The central living and kitchen area comfortably accommodates delicious meals for two to eight (we even did a sit-down meal for sixteen!). Our shaded veranda looks onto the terraced rock garden with its babbling brook water feature and now-mature plantings. Mesmerizing. Everyone who visits is struck by the sense of peace in our little gem. read more

Many of their floor plans can be customized with larger garage space, extra sq. footage, seperate casita or walk out basement for example. List of custom extras is huge. Dorn home buyers, To all DORN new home Buyers "BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE" we were brought into Dorn At Quailwood in Prescott Valley, AZ to look at the new homes being offered by them. We were met by the sales manager Casey Samsill nice guy but a typical fast talking sales person. He had all the right answers before we signed, and he made a lot of promises on what we could do. After looking and pondering everything we decided to purchase a Dorn home and signed paperwork on September 19th, 2017. Sadly, It didn't take long before things started to go wrong, I found out not only did I need a tape recorder when talking to these people, but I should have had everything documented with them because they flat out LIED, first we were told we could pick out our own paint color and when we got into the design center, it all changed we were told no we couldn't and could only choose the colors; they had at the design center. Then we asked if they offered a snail shower Casey said yes looked it up in his office that day and gave us a price and sure enough later when we decided on it, they said it wasn't being offered now! I went into the office on October 21, 2017 and told Carol a Dorn representative that I would be withholding my other deposit of 45,000 until I had these issues cleared up, she said I needed to get my second deposit in by November 5th, 2017 or there would be a price increase on the house. I said fine I guess Dorn needs to get me an answer before that dead line, or I'll walk. On November 9, 2017, the snail shower was approved, but still had to wait on whether or not they waived or extended the contract for the price increase due to it going past the November 5th deadline. On November 14, 2017 at 12:25pm I received a call from Carol at Dorn, I asked her about the price increase, and she told me we were good to move forward so the same day I brought in the $45,000 to Dorn. Then on December 13, 2017 we got an email from DORN Stating they could not absorb the price increase on the home due to the delay in getting the final pricing and the LSU back, even though previously, Carol told me on the 14th of November everything was good to go! So someone is not telling the truth. I was told that I could elect to cancel the contract and be refunded, or I could settle for the $8,000 price increase on the house and move forward, well I elected to walk. I didn't want to sign off with the verbiage they were using because it was false for me to say that so my realtor changed it to, Buyers were being forced to choose between paying a price increase or cancelling the purchase agreement. Buyer is not in a breach of contract. They would not accept our verbiage and pretty much handcuffed and blackmailed me in order to get my money back....Moral of the story, DON'T BUY A DORN HOME, and at the time of writing this we have learned of four other's with almost the identical circumstances, Dorn forcing them out in the same way they did us. Also, since we signed the contract they've had three price increases.....Guess it makes sense to push people out when they can sell to others for a lot more money on the same house! We purchased a new Dorn Home in Quailwood and moved in Feb2017. The sales office was great and communicated with us throughout the process and answered all our questions making the process painless. When building a new home there will be bumps and imperfections along the way. Those should be expected. But Dorn stepped up every time and fixed anything we asked them to fix and did it in a very timely manner. We couldn't be happier with our new home here in Quailwood and Dorn is a quality builder who stands behind their product and provided us top notch customer service. read more

I purchased a home with great expectations of it being of top quality. Since living here for only five months, I am discovering it isn't what it was represented as being. Dorn forces one to pick all of their upgrades early, and at a ten hour sitting and charges 500.00 to change your mind on any item. With that said, the design center also is not very informative, selling flooring that is not worthy of installing in ANY home. I asked for a durable floor, and without asking me for clarification was shown a laminate that if liquids are spilled on them warps at an exorbitant price. Additionally, I was told that the cabinets were solid wood, and discovered only the trip is solid. I also paid a premium lot fee for a view and was told that no one would ever build behind me only to discover that eventually condos will be built behind my home. I met with an agent this past weekend regarding purchasing a property in the new Westwood development. The agent I was dealing with seemed put off that I didn't want to spend $50k in upgrades right off the bat and seemed to discourage me from buying a house unless I was interested in tons of cosmetic upgrades, none of which she was able to even tell me about. She kept telling me I could see what the upgrades were when I visited the design center AFTER I had a contract in place. There are no pictures, catalogs or anything available to see what a house would look like WITHOUT all of the expensive upgrades. (I was told the model home had close to $100k in upgrades, so yeah, that's no help at all) The agent printed off a cost sheet and told me to take it home and "crunch the numbers". The second agent in the office just rolled her eyes and laughed every time I questioned any "additional fees" , such as $4000-$18,000 lot premiums , $5000 in landscaping charges not included upfront, but required for the BACK yards of the homes after they are built and the $3500 fee for not using their mortgage company. I have never heard of such unreasonable fees. So the home advertised at $379k, actually costs AT LEAST $392k, not including any sort of upgrade. Besides the lackluster meeting with the sales agents who acted as if I was bothering them with all of questions I had and the fees that just kept adding up, it just didn't leave me with much confidence in the company. read more
