Update: Went back for donuts and they were INCREDIBLE. So hot they melted in my mouth! Only got ice cream here but the donuts smelled great so I'm sure we'll return! The ice cream was exactly the kind of hand-scooped you crave at the beach, and inside was full of candy and souvenirs. Only complaints are that the line moved pretty slowly and even though people were wearing masks, the line was a bit crowded. read more

Food was amazing! Service was delightfully friendly. My daughter was sitting outside and dropped one of her donuts on the ground along with her fork but saved her other donut. When I went in to get another fork, they offered to make her another donut, no charge! I will definitely recommend and revisit! Thanks again for making my daughter smile! read more

Stopped here twice when on vacation in Corolla. Their donuts are good but very small. Looking for something different? Try a donut milkshake. You pick a donut and ice cream flavor and they blend them together. When drinking the milkshake you get little chunks of donuts. It's extremely sweet but really good! They have a lot of different ice cream flavors too. read more

Delicious ice cream with a side of snarky service. I asked for a sample of the oatmeal cookie ice cream and the lady behind the counter replied 'We don't do samples. It taste like oatmeal cookie ice cream' - ouchhh. No samples? Weird policy, but fine. I'm sure it tastes like oatmeal cookie ice cream since well, it is oatmeal cookie ice cream. But sometimes a sample is nice to make sure that you like the flavor. I thought the comment was mean and unnecessary. We were also overcharged, and when we caught the mistake on the receipt we were basically grunted at, and then given the money back. No apology. Besides the service snafu, the ice cream was delicious. The oatmeal cookie ice cream was perfectly sweet and had lots of chunks of cookie in it. There are tons of different flavors to choose from, and then of course there are the donuts. I didn't try any, but they looked great. If you are looking to satisfy a sweet tooth in Duck this is basically a one stop shop. Better customer service would have made for a better experience all around. read more

Ice cream Was good. Nothing fantastic. Asked some questions and got an attitude. From what I could tell it was the owner and he was rude. Seemed very Annoyed we were interrupting his time. Asked for kids since we were going home and no they don't do that and he laughed when I asked. Not a soul in there mind u at 6pm. Got a donut sundae and it was ok. Nothing special again. The staff was nice this guy no good. The only bonus is my pup cup of vanilla ice cream with milk bones pieces. For my fur Baby. Otherwise I would go somewhere else. We were really excited to try this place but when we walked in there was no social distancing with the line (no markers or anything to try to prevent this), the shopping area had too many people and masks were not properly worn by employees. This is always a bummer and more so when you have a child with you. read more

Found Donutz On A Stick while looking for things to do on our Outer Banks vacation. It was top of my list for things I wanted to try, and let me tell you, it was SO worth it. We stopped on Tuesday and proceeded to talk about it the rest of the trip. Had I remembered they had a Yorktown, VA location, we would have made a detour to get some more. The location was hard to spot, at first, but we found it after turning around. Cute little shops tucked together which made finding it on the GPS a little trickier. The gentleman waiting on us was so friendly and outgoing, which made the experience even nicer. I had my heart set on an ice cream/donut sandwich but opted for the sundae due to the heat. I saw a post with bananas foster ice cream, unfortunately they no longer offer that flavor. I was disappointed but that quickly went away when I tasted the oatmeal cookie craving. It was heaven. My husband, who isn't much of a sweet eater, got vanilla bean ice cream on peanut butter chocolate donutz. He devoured it before I was half way done with mine. The sundaes come with all the traditional fixings, but I opted for no toppings to be as close to the ice cream sandwich as possible. If you are in the Outer Banks, it is so worth a stop. read more

Great ice cream and donut shop in the outer banks. Tons of ice cream flavors, great donuts. When our family goes to the outer banks, we usually cook all of our meals in the kitchen in the vacation house. Having the time to relax and cook meals while near the beach is part of the charm. That being said, getting out and having a fun dessert, meal, or two during the week is nice. We used to go to Duck Donuts because everyone seems to love them, but I just never could get into their donuts. They were too light, too sweet, and too smothered in whatever glaze you asked for to really be my thing. The last time, we came, we found Donutz on a Stick on Yelp while looing for ice cream and gave it a shot. We were really impressed. They had a great selection of ice cream with a ton of flavors. They had donut sundaes where they would put ice cream on top of their donuts, which was way better than it even sounds. They even did a fantastic job dealing with my mom's peanut allergies. The donut sundae was amazing. It was good ice cream over two donuts. Even at the bottom of the ice cream for a while, the donuts were still crisp, cakey and a bit warm. Best ice cream in Duck! Donutz on a Stick has the largest selection of flavors by far. They also have delicious donuts which you can pair with the ice cream. My favorite flavor is Oatmeal Cookie, it's amazing. Every time we come my boyfriend gets the Oreo Donut Milkshake. Its cookies and cream ice cream with a donut blended in and a donut on top- its a lot and its insane but its delicious. read more

Visited NC for a vacay from VA and had to stop here for these donuts. The donuts were the perfect size for me but smaller than your average Krispy Kreme donut. The man at the cash register was very friendly and told us their recommendations and most popular donuts. When you get a dozen you can choose a max of 6 flavors (2 donuts per one flavor) .We got a total of a dozen: 6 cinnamon roll, 2 maple bacon, 2 chocolate glaze, and 2 funnel cake. These donuts were warm, soft, and light. Cinnamon roll had just the right amount of cinnamon to icing to make the perfect balance of sweet donut. Also got a waffle cone with peppermint ice cream and cappuccino crunch. Cappuccino crunch was delicious with a rich coffee flavor and chunks of chocolate. read more

I'm not a kid but this dessert turned me into one. Probably because my husband offered to mask up and go inside and wait in an incredibly long and crowded line. The downside is most weren't wearing masks and there was absolutely no social distancing at all. I ordered a chocolate peanut butter doughnut sandwich with banana fosters ice cream. The doughnut is a cake doughnut that's made to order so it's hot and crispy on the outside and moist in the middle. Perfectly sweet. Not sugary. Nothing artificial tasting. The banana ice cream was perfection. Again nothing artificial or candy flavored; it was creamy delicious banana ice cream with a buttery finish. I gobbled this sweet treat down a have thought about it several times since we left OBX just yesterday! So good. read more

From the moment I walked in to Donutz on a Stick I knew I was going to love it. The shop smells like fresh waffle cones and happiness, which brought a smile instantly to my face. This is the best ice cream I have had during our trip to the Outer Banks. The store is small, but the options in the menu are vast and delicious. It is reasonably priced unlike a lot of other places here which is the cherry on top. I got Peach ice cream and Strawberry ice cream and both were creamy and smooth with strong flavors. Others in my group got milkshakes and donuts which looked decedent as well. The location is also perfect for a dessert shop, it's right in the boardwalk across the sound which makes for a perfect walk with an ice cream in hand. It was definitely worth the drive from Corolla. read more

Family of seven walked in right before us with no masks and were served with no issue. There is a sign posted on the door that they have employees who cannot wear masks due to medical conditions. Update: With his reply, it is clear that the owner does not seem to understand his obligations. Many wonderful establishments in OBX have no issue enforcing masks. This includes Stack 'Em High, Booty Treats, Outer Banks Brewing Company, Outer Banks Boil and Duck Donuts. This medical condition issue is an excuse and nothing more. A business is required by Dare County to ask patrons to wear masks. If a patron cannot comply, that should be handled on a case by case basis. This is common sense. So yes, David, you ARE supposed to be the mask police. I AM NOT. What is within my power is to take my business elsewhere and notify others that you are not enforcing rules for their safety. People are dying. Take it seriously and stop arguing with customers on Yelp. PS: Don't assume I'm not a business owner. read more

Very outstanding place everybody in our family had a fun time here and We only had the donuts they also have ice cream this place is cool and will be back again no doubt. 3.5/5 - rounded up to a 4. We were in Duck for vacation recently. We ordered vegan donuts based on reviews. Overall, they appeared to be knowledgeable about allergies but I can also understand the viewpoint of some of the lower rated reviews. It is great that the vegan donuts are made off-site, etc.. Also note, that at the time that we went, the employees were no longer masked in store. Tips - 1) you should definitely order this ahead of time, suggest a few days in advance and it may be hard to reach them because of the policy they have, as mentioned in other posts. 2) Also note, that these donuts are pricier than the donuts that are listed on their menu which is not really posted anywhere ($50+ for a dozen). The cost was a surprise to us since we assumed the price is similar to what we saw in menus posted by others. 3) they do put toppings on in store so if you are sensitive to just the presence of an allergen this might not be a good option for you (e.g., peanut). 4) finally, the donuts are really sweet, so just beware of the sugar high for kids. If we were ever to go back to Duck for vacation, we may come back but probably only buy a few donuts due to cost and the sweetness factor. read more

Well....yummmmm. Took my grandchildren out for a sweet treat and came upon this hidden gem. Service was great, staff very friendly. These sundaes? Fabulous!! The kids had happy bellies for sure. Very clean establishment and well run. There is a little shop inside as well to browse while you wait. Only down side, there is no place to sit outside to enjoy this tasty treat. read more

This little shop is tucked out of the way, it's easy to miss. MAN the donuts were so good!!! You can get a small stick (2) or a large stick (4). Many flavors to make your own combo or you can pick from local favorites. We had The Tuxedo, chocolate frosted with vanilla drizzle. I'm not kidding, probably the best donut I've ever eaten! Oh my gawd...these are quite possibly the best, fresh-made donuts I have ever had. From the moment that we entered Currituck County and I browsed the brochure at the visitor's center I had one thing on my mind and it was Donutz On a Stick! Ask my family, they got tired of me saying it. Every time I opened up one of the visitor guides I would find a way to casually mention that they had donuts and not just any donuts, but donuts on a stick. Finally being able to make it here I completely didn't even notice the man out front with a tray of samples as I made a b-line for the door. If I had noticed him, no one else would have been able to have had a sample. Approaching the counter I was greeted right away and told how the process works for the said donuts that end up on a stick. After hearing this I opted for a classic, chocolate icing with sprinkles on top. The fun thing here is to watch as this donuts are being made. Watching the machine taking that piece of dough and flipping it so effortlessly is kind of a soothing experience. My one big suggestion to you is to not even try to eat these donuts on a stick while holding the stick. It really doesn't work if you get the large size. Go ahead and get yourself a fork, do not be ashamed by this because others, me included, have done this. Or forget that and go carnal on it, get your face messy, and don't worry about the stares you'll get. Little kids don't. One other thing you might want to try is the donut sundae. Yes, that is right you can get those donuts topped with scoops of ice cream and whatever toppings you desire. It a near spiritual experience for the donut lover...or ice cream lover. Other items are available for purchase in here from candy to small souvenirs. The owner, I believe that is who this guy was, is very enthusiastic about this place. You should meet him. read more

Have you ever wanted to indulge in something gluttonous? Come to this place. If there's a wait, there's a reason why. The ice cream and donuts are amazing, and there is truly something for everyone and every diet restriction (except keto...sorry!)! If you are waffling on this spot, just use the excuse that it is a Duck institution and a must-have experience. The boardwalk view isn't half bad either. read more

Wow. These donuts were probably the BEST donuts my husband and I ever had. They were amazing. My funnel cake donut was warm and crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. The milkshake is fantastic too. The sundaes looked sooo good but I didn't want to get that since I was traveling with the food. It's a very popular shop so be prepared to wait! I remember the ice cream being very good along with their shakes! Today we just got sno balls which is basically a sno cone in a cup. They do have a great variety of flavors. However the flavoring in a few of ours was a little on the bland side. Still an overall solid place.

My wife ordered ice cream that tasted like it had been cryogenically frozen since the Reagan administration. You ever had ice cream so freezer burnt it crunches? Yeah, it was like that. I figured I'd play it safe and go with a cotton candy snow cone. Big mistake. I don't know what kind of cotton candy they've been sniffing in Hawaii, but mine tasted like a urinal cake in a gas station bathroom--sweet, chemical-y, and weirdly minty in the worst possible way. To top it off, the woman behind the counter grabbed the ice cream bare-handed. No gloves. Just out here raw-dogging the frozen dairy like hygiene isn't a thing. Maybe that explains the "flavor." If you're in the mood for a science experiment gone wrong or want to know what disappointment tastes like, this is your place. Otherwise, steer clear.

Food is prepared for either take out of eaten outdoors. The seating outdoors is old and on a hot day it can get uncomfortable. We were not fans of the bugs and the older picnic tables. Our food was brought outside. Our sandwiches were just average. Mine was a bit dry. There was nothing memorable about our meal.

Some tables have shade and umbrellas while others are just in the sun. Food was fresh and came out fast. My mahi sandwich was a bit dry even with a request of mayo. Probably more breading than dish. Lettuce and tomatoes were fresh.
