This is probably really 5 stars but I don't have much experience(other than D&D)to base this on. I'm not a huge doughnut fan, and only came here because of friend's recommendations. I wanted to pick up donuts on my birthday so I came here after checking out all the good yelp reviews. It was empty inside but that meant no wait for me. I ended up getting a box of chocolate caramel crunch, strawberry glazed, glazed, Dulce de leche, and a cannoli creme donut. The yeast dough was very light, with a little chalky dryness to the outside that I usually get from Dunkin Donuts. It's a good dough none the less to pair with flavorings. My favorites were the Dulce de leche and cannoli creme ones, which were assembled by hand when I ordered them. The caramel crunch was also good, and the dough was a little more dense than the others, almost like an old fashioned. I prefered that style the most and I definitely recommend it. $9 for 5 donuts isn't bad considering this is an independent store (I pay $5.25 for 2 in NYC so...) I would definitely come back here again! read more

I love this place! They have a good variety of donuts. I love their boston cream donuts. The filling taste so good. They never disappoint.

We tried four doughnuts and a porkroll egg and cheese on a doughnut with a side of home fries. For the price the sandwich was awesome. I think it was $4 for the sandwich like 6 for the sandwich with potatoes. The doughnut doesn't really hold up like a hard roll but then again it's a doughnut so expect it to kinda break apart. It's a pretty standard PEC otherwise however I would definitely go back for another sandwich. As for the doughnuts...... ehhhhhh. They kinda remind me of food store doughnuts. Good but just blahhhh. We tried maple bacon which needs much more bacon. Maybe like dip it in bacon bits verses 3 small paper thin pieces of bacon. The French toast was just maple frosted with a dusting of cinnamon on top. The vanilla creme filled was ok but I don't care for the doughnut to be sliced in half verse filled with a tube. Flavor wise it was OK but just ehhhhh really. And we tried a glazed plain. Krispy Kreme's plain glazed is by FAR better. Especially if you get it warm. I would try the sandwich and go from there. read more

YUMMY!!! This little shop makes a very special product. The donuts are delicious, creative, and a little decadent. Don't be deceived by the outside but take a chance and come in. I came in last week and the man working there seem to be a little bit out of sorts but he was pleasant. However, once I got to my car and started to eat the donuts my whole world seemed brighter and I forced myself to drive away so that I wouldn't get more. Ordered a dozen late last night for pickup this morning -- my coworker prefers donuts to cake so we went with office donuts. When I arrived, my grilled PB&J was put on the grill so it would be hot and fresh -- it was SO DELICIOUS and I was super pleased with it being freshly grilled. The place is super cute on the inside. There was no line around 10am on a Sunday. We got a bacon egg and cheese on the glazed donut and it was surprisingly good. The glazed donut was probably one of the best I've ever had. We also got a smores donutwich which I highly suggest. It was delicious and the marshmallow and Graham cracker in the middle were perfect. Hidden in a strip mall lies my new favorite donut spot. We tried just two of the wonderfully placed samples of donuts in the display. I love how you can actually see what you are getting. We picked the cheesecake and snappy apple donuts. The gentleman behind the counter proceeded to customize the donuts in front of us. Visually stunning and amazingly delicious. The cheesecake truly tasted like a cheesecake slice with just the right amount of fruit to balance.I could eat the filling on its own.The snappy apple donut was just like its namesake. Wow this place was super reasonably priced! I got an iced mocha, hubby got a bottled ice tea, and we got 2 donut sandwiches and one specialty donut all for $12! I really liked the iced mocha coffee a lot and I'm pretty picky about my coffee. It was definitely sweet, but that's how I like it! The staff was super friendly and guided me about what to get to eat! This place is in a strip mall and as we were pulling up we weren't sure if it would be good or not. sugar rush and carb binge all in one... oh yes. thanks to the glowing yep reviews of this new local donut shop, i had to take a detour on my day off to check it out, and i'm happy i did... 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for potential. the small storefront is easy to miss- tucked into a small strip mall facing rt. 33 in hamilton, donuts time cafe is in the same strip as kenji fusion, across from the texas roudhouse, shoprite, acmoore shopping center. the parking lot is small, but you should have no problem finding a spot at most times. i visited around 2pm on a thursday and was the only customer in the store aside from a patron the owner was in the middle of a conversation with. i was greeted with a 'what can i get you?' and although i tried to engage with the owner, that was all i got other than my total cost at the end. far from the warm welcome i'd expect from a bakery. another customer who came in a few minutes after i did received the same :( i'm hoping it was just an off-day. anyway, the display case had some creative donut options, with only 2 or 3 of each type of available. flavors ranged from filled black raspberry jam, boston cream and cannoli cream, to cool combos like maple bacon or fruit loops, and the staple flavors like strawberry frosted, cinnamon sugar, chocolate frosted, etc. the dough used for all of these seems to be the same (there are no cake-donuts or chocolate donuts. i ordered a half-dozen to share with my family: 2 boston cream, 2 cannoli, 1 maple walnut, 1 fruit loops for just under $9. prices vary for filled and non-filled varieties. bonus: they do take credit cards, with no minimum posted. the base dough for all of the donuts was identical in both taste and texture. a bit tough and chewy, and not too sweet- which was a good contrast to the toppings/fillings. i was pleased that the treats were not overly oily. the glazes on the maple walnut and on the fruit loops donuts was thick and sweet, without the artificial aftertaste that's all-too-common in donuts from the bigger chains. the filled donuts aren't filled in the usual style- they're moreso donut-filling sandwiches. cute concept, though a bit messy to eat. the boston cream custard was yummy, as was the cannoli cream. the chocolate chips in the cannoli cream donut added a nice textural contrast as well. i did notice the coffee and breakfast/lunch menu as well, though i did not get a chance to sample anything. there are a few tables for dining in, as well as a cooler with some bottled beverages. i look forward to giving this new local business another try! read more

These are REAL DEAL donuts, just be picky with your selection. Step into donuts time cafe and you'll immediately notice the intoxicating aroma of fresh made donuts. While this place is owned by a couple, I only saw the husband operating the store by himself during my visit. The selection was VERY limited at 3:30pm, but he had some fresh donuts coming out and offered to make whichever flavors I pleased. As I said, he was the only person in the store, slightly flustered with me and another woman to serve but for fresh donuts it was worth it. Very reasonably priced donuts (6 for $9.79). The donuts themselves had a GREAT chew, not in a bad way. The dough consistency is exactly as I imagine a donut to be. Some flavors could be better while some were ON POINT! (See pictures for individual donut reviews) However, I noticed they were light on the toppings as compared to other yelp photos. While this new donut spot has the makings of greatness, they need to work on some flavors and maybe consider adding staff. read more

Stopped by for the first time, the place doesn't look great from the outside - located in tiny strip mall on busy 33 - but the food was great! Potatoes melt in your mouth. Finally waltzed in this small unassuming donut shop after driving by several times, and after reading all of the glorious reviews here on Yelp, as well as a glowing write up in the Trentonian. I am pleased to report that the donuts are EVERYTHING they're cracked up to be. Not overly sweet, no trace of oil, just really good, quality donuts that don't taste like the processed sugary crap you get at the big box chains. No one should ever return to DD after visiting the lovely Husband and Wife team at Donuts Time. At $1.30 a pop, the price is hardly exorbitant, especially considering that you would pay that at least that much for a gourmet cookie or cupcake elsewhere. I will be back, again and again, but only as a special treat as donuts are not a great habit for my waistline. I sampled the glaze, the cinnamon sugar, and chocolate glaze. I also had a curried chicken salad sandwich, which was amazing! I'll be back for some more of that. $5.50 pricetag was reasonable for a good sized sandwich. Bring cash, not just because small businesses love when you pay in cash, but because there is a $8 minimum for credit cards. I wish Donuts Time much success! I hope they are here to stay. read more

We came here craving for a solid donut and something other than DD. The place is unassuming from the outside but well arranged and decorated with fun paintings and murals inside. They have a several options of donuts from frosted, cream, ad specialty. We got a French toast, the pineapple specialty, and the cannoli specialty. Personally we were fans of the simpler frosted ones as the specialties had a bit too much fillings. Unlike some other regional donut locations, this place has a light, airy dough rather than it being too cakey. And that makes this place stand out. There aren't many gourmet donut options in this area, so I'm glad this one is solid! read more

First and foremost the donuts are great. At least two tiers above your run of the mill pastries from dunkin. They have about 20 different specialty/ gourmet donuts and there are some real interesting ones. I got a Maple Bacon donut and Mango pineapple donut that were awesome sauce. Overall the consistency was flavorful and fresh. But that's not the reason I only gave it three stars. I found my overall experience in Donuts Time to be missing something. I was expecting a more contemporary, upbeat, not your average hole in the wall donut joint. Ya know, with specialty coffee drinks, a couch to sit on, people on computers, etc. Instead I found your average store with old brown floors, the kind of place that was empty on a Sunday in Hamilton. I just expected more of a pizzazz. We live in an era of endless competition who is either funded by corporate or independent and hungry. The other thing is, Hamilton/ Trenton/ Mercer County is a primarily Italian in origins and is nothing short of pastries shops that offer a wider selection of pastries than just donuts. When you walk in to Donuts Time the donuts are all the way in the back. I expected donuts everywhere when you walk in. When you walk into any other pastry shop, that's what you find, pastries everywhere! I'm not the fittest person you'll meet, I like a good donut. So when I find a place in town that has specialty donuts with Froot Loops on them, it sparks my interest. But there has to be more to keep people's interest. It's not in a very busy business shopping center and if it wasn't for someone bringing donuts to an event I attended, I would have never have heard of this place. I walked in Saturday, right before closing time, and the owner was the only one there. I asked him if they were closed and he mumbled something about, no he could wait on me. I didn't exactly hear what he said because he was across the room, but that was it. He didn't smile, wasn't at all friendly or welcoming, didn't ask me if I'd ever been there, or tell me anything about his business. You think he'd be happy to get another customer and make some more money, right before he closed. Maybe he was tired from his long day there. I don't know, but regardless, summon up the energy to be friendly! Anyway, I decided on a half dozen assorted donuts so I could sample them. He wrote down my order and told me it would be a few minutes. When they were done he called out that they were ready. It was $9.25 for six donuts. Three were plain or frosted (glazed, chocolate frosted, caramel sea salt frosted) and three were specialty donuts (Red Velvet, cheesecake, and S'mores). The donuts were dense, and heavy, with a cake-like texture. They were large, except for the Red Velvet, which was much smaller. It also had a different, very spongey texture. The donut itself had no taste. The cream cheese icing was good though. The cheesecake was cheese filled and had cherries. It was ok. The S'mores topping was good. Someone on Yelp said these were yeast donuts so it's personal preference whether or not you like the dense, heavy texture. I prefer lighter, airier donuts that have sort of a crunchy outer layer, rather than being like dense cake. After I paid, there was still no friendliness, smile, OR thank you. No thank you, thanks for coming in, or anything like that. Wow! As I was walking out, I got a half-hearted, "Have a nice day". That was it. Smh. These donuts are homemade and better than Dunkin Donuts. However, Eet Gud Bakery in Hamilton and Yum Yum Bake Shops in PA (3 locations--Warminster, Colmar, and Quakertown) have much better donuts. I know that's not near here, but I'm using it as a reference point for what I consider excellent donuts. Donuts Time Cafe is located in a small strip mall on route 33 next to Panera. It has limited parking so is not very convenient to get in and out of. I like to support local businesses, but in return I expect at least the minimal amount of friendliness. If I'm being waited on by the owner, then I expect them to be friendly and welcoming. At this place, I felt unwelcome. That and the donuts, are why I gave this place a 2 stars. If the owner had been even a little friendly and thanked me, it would have been 3 stars.
