Plus they are almost always cheaper then Casey's general store and there not day old (which Casey's packs up yesterdays unsold dough nuts). What to have for lunch.....what kind of healthy lunch can I find around here...KFC isn't healthy....Mexican makes my skin angry...Donutland!! Perfect!! Just the right amount of Kate Safeness mixed with Deliciousness. I told mysef that I was going to get a sandwich at the deli or maybe some soup. I didn't fall for it though. I ordered 1 cherry doughnut and 1 vanilla and reassured myself that since they are smaller than a sub sandwich they must be better for me. I ate half of each for lunch, what a healthy meal. I pulled into the parking lot and saw a sign on the door letting you know before you even got out of your car that they only take cash or checks. I'm always glad for advanced notice since I usually don't carry much cash with me. Sadly, I fear I will be back to Donutland more often than I should. read more

Today, we met the owner and his two wonderful, smiling daughters--warm, friendly, and a perfect match for this fabulous Land of Donuts. Brought in Grandson, our third generation devotee, for his favorite chocolate twist. I had one of the piping hot pots of excellent coffee with my beloved "rose" donut. Looks like a blossom with pink rolled into the middle and soft as a sugary cloud. It was about three times as big as I remember, so there was plenty left to take home for later and to share. The old fashioneds are delightful, either chocolate or vanilla, and we brought several back for Son-in-Law who will be thrilled. Granddaughter wanted powdered sugar, so we packed up a couple of those, too. You can't go wrong here with anything!! Even got one of the old classic "chop suey" ones--just because we couldn't resist. It's the size of a Sasquatch footprint. This vintage donut shop is a definite MUST GO if you're in Cedar Rapids. NEVER disappoints. So what are you waiting for? Friendly service. The old fashion chocolate is good. Note: cash only stated clearly on the door when you enter. The glazed raised is unpalatable. It was one of the few times I couldn't finish any type of food. I have the motto of "As long as it's not alive and kicking I'll eat it. Even if it's alive as long as it is a quick kill I'll still try it". This was the first time I just couldn't force the doughnut down my throat. My basic test for a doughnut place is one old fashion and one glazed raised since they are the gold standard of a doughnut shop. A good doughnut shop should be able to make both well. Since this place can make an old fashion but not a glazed raised I gave it a low rating. Basically, if one stumbles by and is jonesing for a doughnut this is a quick fix. Actually thinking about it, go to Casey's Gas Station/Convince store for better doughnut. read more

Yum yummy yum! These are just about the only donuts I will eat and everyone goes nuts when I bring them into work or have them for family on the weekends. Try the cherry (it is blood red, but don't let that scare you off!), the orange, old fashioned sour cream, coconut crunch, traditional glazed, or if you're very lucky at the right time of year, the apple spice. So good! And the prices are ridic. You can get a dozen donuts for about 6 bucks. And the place hasn't changed, not even a little bit, since I was a kid. Nostalgia, good donuts and good prices. It's not always easy to be a good mood in the morning, but Donutland was able to break the mold. The service was excellent, the people are friendly and the donuts are fresh and tasty. Sadly, too many donut/breakfast shops have become chains, and with their widespread locations have sacrificed quality and customer service for a "get 'em in and get 'em out" approach that leaves the consumer feeling frustrated and confused as to how the product paid for is justified by the cost - such is not the case at Donutland. This place is a holdover from a bygone era. My customers loved that I brought them this instead of Dunkin' and I will definitely be back the next time I am in town. Huzzzah for Donutland! read more

Came into town for a robotic competition and decide to check out the local doughnut shop. Came in the evening and their was a few doughnuts left. This is an amazing place. They got my whole order correct except for the Bismarck that my wife forgot to order.

Their doughnuts are okay but not great. Here's my two issues with this place. Of the 25 different kinds they offer, they're often out of at least half of them. And it's not that they're sooooo good they sell out really fast, its just they don't make enough. I went in at 9:30 in the morning on a Saturday and they're out of sprinkle donuts; in fact they only had maybe 8 varieties out of 20+ left. Really? My second issue is that they only take cash. Is that a donut sign I see up ahead? Why yes...yes it is. So, at 1 p.m. on a wintery Saturday afternoon, an impromptu stop for a donut and coffee warmup and refuel. As expected, our options were somewhat limited, so I opted for the cake donut with chocolate frosting and coconut flakes with a side of mediocre coffee in a styro cup. Both were so-so. Based on steady stream of patrons (popping in to purchase donuts by the dozen), it's a popular stop at all times of the day. Note to self, next time ask what they have available in the kitchen. They take cards now which is good, you know, since it's 2017. Donuts are legit, have been for years. Prices are very reasonable. Compared to Dunkin these are light years better. I've lived in CR for decades but never been inside Donutland before today. That's not to say I've never had their donuts. Sorry to say that I don't share the unbridled enthusiasm others have for their donuts. I prefer the fluffier yeast donuts that the former Danish Maid Bakery used to make. I met a friend here for lunch today. He ordered the "Seasonal Egg Salad" on a croissant, which they promoted on their menu. I was surprised to watch the server open an institutional sized bucket of Egg Salad. So much for homemade, although he said it was decent. I had the DL Club on a wheat sub roll. The bread was store bought, just like you would find on the shelf at Fareway. The toppings were fairly limited, just the basics and no hot peppers. The sandwich tasted like what you expect if you bought all packaged ingredients and make it yourself; dry & dull and not much on flavor. Let's just say Jimmy John's has nothing to fear. Donutland does have a loyal following however with several tables of retired friends getting together (maybe since 9:00 AM) for coffee and donuts. They seem to be stuck in the 70's here, remaining the same while the world (and tastes) have changed around them. read more

This is the absolute worst. It USED to be good. Coffee way too strong and hot. No longer have ice to cool and water it down . I went at 330 in the afternoon. i thought donutland was obsolete until hoy when i was not able to drive down 42nd street and was trying hard to figure out how to get to where i'm goin with a closed street ahead of me and not one detour sign to be found. i thanked the detour sign gods and realized i was on the path i'm spose to be on and what lies ahead is a cake donut and possibly maybe (most likely) a blueberry one too.
