My sister and I drove about 20 minutes from Huntington Beach specifically to try the famous banana fritter. We were really excited to visit and arrived in a great mood. When we walked in, I said hello to the employee, but she ignored me at first. My sister and I were both confused by the interaction, and she only responded after noticing our reaction. Unfortunately, the banana fritter was sold out. I then made a light comment, saying, "I bet the banana fritters sell out all the time," but I was ignored again. I considered ordering a regular apple fritter instead, but after that experience, my sister and I no longer felt comfortable supporting the business, so we decided to leave. I wanted to share this experience because customer service plays a big role in whether people return. We were genuinely excited to visit and hoped for a much better interaction. I had to work Saturday, my second Saturday in a row, and at the end of the day I needed donuts. It was a donut emergency. I entered donuts/open now in Yelp and this little treasure popped up. Open 24 hours and this close to my house? Imagine my luck! I got all our favorites - my husband's buttermilk bars and my "everything with a filling". Rasberry filled - check, Boston creme - check. I also tried a strawberry creme turnover that was quite good. They had so many fresh donuts for it being 5pm on a Saturday. Delightful staff as well. This place has the best fritters. Where the f*** are you gunna get a banana fritter. Theyre $3.50 and theyre the size of your face.

The service was just service. No smile or nod, though when I said I wasn't ready yet (because the before customer was bothering me throughout my entire interaction--trying to use my eyes to signal the employee to help me--wanting me to let him "fix" the sideswipe on my car), he said tell me when you're ready and worked to the side of the counter. The other guy was to the side of me even as they rung me up. Made me nervous to use my wallet... yet more nervous to ask for space because he might follow me outside. The performance service just for choosing donuts, milk, and ringing me up was just an average service with nothing special. The glazed donuts were excellent, as was milk. The chocolate donuts are why I might not return (plus lack of awareness when a customer is in obvious distress): the icing is gritty. As though it's not mixed enough or the sugar is hard? Crystallized? Super wanted to love this place as it's close to the hospital I'm at throughout the day for a month+ (I'm from out of state). I didn't complain, but this will be the last time I ever buy donuts at this location. The lady knew exactly what she was doing as when she handed me back the incorrect change I looked at her showed her the $5 bill she handed me and she looked at me and then walked away. She short changed me by $5. That $5 cost you a customer. Sometimes it's better to walk away and not argue over starting this early 5:30 am morning off upset. If you really need that $5, keep it. A white male then came in - the owner turned from me and served him purposely ahead of me and with a different and friendlier demeanor. He then walked to the back after the new customer's transaction, refusing to serve me as a customer. I used to always go there but was served most often by his wife, with terrific customer service.
