Too greasy, weird aftertastes, terrible terrible heartburn and upset stomach after... And with these, I didn't experience any of that(a little burpy after, but I mean, it's donuts... LOL) We only tried 3 different donuts, but they were all so bomb. The churro donut was my favorite. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside just like a real churro, but didn't get soggy. The Nutella Malasada was full of Nutella and it was actually my first time trying a malasada... bomb! The cookies and creme mochi was a nice surprise too. The cream was actually very flavorful and not just like a plain creme with Oreos thrown in like I've often seen. I'm sure all of the donuts would be really good here. I don't get it. Husband wanted to try this place to see how it compared to our favorite, JD Flannel. This place is nowhere near as good, or very good at all. They had hundreds of donuts sitting out, no labels, we had to ask what everything was. Ended up buying four for $13, not bad. Came home and took a bite of each one. None of the donuts tasted fresh, I am sure they were made hours before we bought them. Churro was super hard and stale, salted caramel literally tasted like nothing, blueberry tasted like sweet artificial fruit, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting was the best one. Went in during National doughnut day to try this place out. The place was simple and very welcoming. The people greeted me as soon as I came in. The employee that helped me was very polite and helpful on trying to figure out what to get. I honestly came in for just a couple, but left with so many more! The classic raised glazed was pretty good. The texture of the doughnuts were overall not dense and overall fairly fluffy. A couple were a little doughy, but most were good. The glaze was not too sweet which is nice. Most flavors were solid. This place is known for their Malassadas and I can confirm they are delicious. I wasn't even really hungry, but I knew I needed to put some sustenance in my belly before ingesting donuts, because that's a recipe for maximum crudness. So I ordered the bacon burrito as just kind of the best option available. And that freaking bacon burrito was actually awesome. You gotta love when you find a happy accident like that. I just kept eating it despite not even being hungry. And then came the donuts. I asked what the most popular items where, and was told that the malasadas were, so I grabbed a couple of those, a mochi, something with coconut shavings and a couple other random ones. Most of these were amazing. Especially the malasadas (she was right). I really had no belly room left, especially after eating most of the burrito, but there was no way I was going to just leave the uneaten donuts in our hotel room, so I took the little bag they give you for ice, and threw them in my backpack. Many hours later, in my kitchen in Texas, I inhaled those bad boys and didn't regret one second of it. If I ever hear of anyone going to the area, this will be at the top of my recommendation list. It's been years since the last time I came to the Donuttery. I had good memories of the food and donuts so when I was in the vicinity, I decided to swing by. Kind of a mistake. It was after 10 on a Wednesday night and the place was fully packed. That seemed like a good, if annoying, sign. Luckily, they had two registers going so the line went pretty quickly. My standby donut order is blueberry cake donut so I ordered two of those, then I looked around. The place had been given an overhaul of sorts since my previous visit about 7 years ago. Gone was the family-run ramshackle look. In its place is a sleek design concept. Way fewer tables to sit and eat, which led to all the people loitering around inside and outside, standing and eating from paper bags. The outside people with no place to go sit made it hard to park as some were standing in or very close to parking spots. Removing tables was a bad idea. I think there might have been like 2 tables but there were so many people standing around inside and out, I didn't get a good look. Anyway, I also looked at the racks of donuts to see what else I would like to order. I saw a whipped cream-filled yeast donut that looked good so I got that and ordered an apple fritter sight unseen. Boy, I wish I had seen it before I bought it. That fritter was burned to heck and greasy greasy greasy. It's a donut, I expect greasiness but the burned aspect of it made it absorb so much extra oil. It was a disgusting mess. One of my blueberry cake donuts was also burned. And the whipped cream donut had a terrible plasticky chocolate coating. Those 4 donuts also cost me $15. What is going on here?? Before my return, I was sad I live too far to come to the Donuttery often but now I'm glad to for it. I'm sad about the downfall of this once great place. A fun spot for donuts with a very large variety that includes malasadas. The parking lot is on the smaller side, but there's still a decent amount of spots available. There's very limited counter seating available inside. They have a large variety of donut options and they also have several gluten free flavors. The service is quick and they're able to keep the line moving fairly quickly. We ordered one of each of their different malasada flavors they're a little bit more on the dense side and it can be difficult to tell which is which from the outside. I enjoyed the guava malasada the most. It had the most flavorful filling and was closer to a jelly consistency on the inside. The pistachio, vanilla, and passion fruit flavors were more of a lighter whipped cream like consistency inside. These were on the sweeter side and had more of an artificial flavor. I came to The Donuttery for the first time and it was like a kid in a candy shop. Back home in San Diego, we have hardly any good donut shops. They either are mid or they close early. I was so excited to see the variety of donuts in size and flavors and they are open 24 hours!!! There was a line out the door when we arrived, but they get through it quickly. There are a good three or four employees helping customers at any given time. They have a lot of Vegan options and GF options along with your regular donuts. They keep everything separated and safe. The staff member even bagged the Vegan malasada I ordered to make sure it did not get mixed up with the regular donuts, which was appreciated. I ordered seven other malasadas for the upcoming party. They had made flavors on those alone consisting of Nutella, ube, vanilla custard, guava, and passion fruit. I decided to get four extra donuts for us to have at home apart from the party and it was hard to make a decision. We went with two chocolate bars, a sprinkled donut and a strawberry donut. Prices are a little steep, $27.49 for a fancier dozen, but donuts, like everything else, seem to be inflated. The donuts are larger and thicker than a lot of other donut shops, and the flavor was on point. The donuts were far from dry too. Hopefully the next time I have a wild craving for donuts I will be near The Donuttery. It's too hard to just pick a couple. read more

Let me tell you a sad story. Two of my most favorite donuts in the world are the French Cruller and the Apple Fritter. I went to The Donuttery at a recommendation of my boyfriend, he kept saying that it was pretty good. I ordered the french cruller and the apple fritter there today, and I was honestly disappointed. The apple fritter was a bit burnt, and was not moist at all like any of the local shops that I've been to. The french cruller, which I was surprised that they even had in the first place, was not good either. I greatly preferred the Dunkin Donuts french cruller to this place. So many great options! With having a friend with Celiac Disease, it's often a challenge for her to find safe baked goods without cross contamination. At The Donuttery, their whole top shelf consisted of Gluten-Free donuts safe for her to consume! I was able to get my regular gluten donuts (pictured below) to have and share with my family, and my friend was able to purchase from a large selection of Celiac safe donuts. I had the red velvet with cream cheese - the donut itself was so dry and dense, while the frosting was super sweet with barely any taste of cream cheese. The maple bar was okay, but the maple glaze was insanely thick - one of the thickest I've ever seen - and I typically order maple bars at any donut shops I go to. Blueberry donut was the best tasting one I had, crispy and not too sweet. Inside the store there's lots of seating and wifi for students wanting to study. I've been to The Doughnuttery many times over the years and am happy to see that they're still churning out doughnuts. I got the Ube custard cake doughnut, the raised raspberry filled, maple, & glazed, and a vanilla custard malasada. The Doughnuttery has a variety of raised & cake doughnuts and other pastries. The options for non-vegan doughnuts and pastries is probably 4-5 times what they have for vegan options. Normally an apple fritter fan but this one was a bit too oily regardless if small version or large one. First time here. Luckily, I was in the area so decided to try them out. Unfortunately, I love donuts. Cute little shop. Very clean and just a wall of donuts to choose from... I was almost overwhelmed. I took one star off because they young girls behind the counter were anything but helpful, almost appearing like they were working there by force, dishing quite a bit of indifference and eye-rolls with the donuts. Luckily, the older lady was very pleasant and happy, so it somewhat balanced out. Now... let's get to these donuts. On a whim, I ordered a couple of their gluten-free options. Traditional chocolate cake w frosting and then a white cake with TOFFEE topping! My 4-year old demolished the chocolate one, begrudgingly letting me take a small taste. I ate the toffee one- O.M.G. So good and you would never guess there's something missing. I would eat again anytime. I also ordered the "crème brûlée" version regular donut (see pic)... initiallyI thought, "so small "... but good things come in small packages! I love crème brûlée- but in donut form?
