That said, I had occasional to be on the South side today and I had a hankering. That means one place and one place only: Gourmet Donut. As a young man, I thought I could eat infinite amounts of donuts and often tried to do so. Gourmet is perhaps the only place that forces me to tap out. The dough in their raised pastries is so soft and rich; the crust on the fry is so crunchy and well-executed; their icings and toppings are so thick and decadent that I should be done after one. I'm happy but mildly uncomfortable after two. I'm considering how far I can drive while in cardiac arrest midway through number three. And yet it takes every bit of willpower I can muster to save the next bite for "later". I don't know how they do it, especially at such low price points (a coconut cake donut and a maple bar set me back $2.57). Just know that if you need something good in your life; if you need something to put a smile on your face; or if you need to make your cardiologist actually EARN their money for a change, you should really pay Gourmet Donut a visit.
